omg hello this is so sweet!!! thank you! YES furuba was the first fandom i wrote fic for as an Adult and also the fandom i met my wife in. it is very special to me!

as for my favorite furuba fic i've written, it would definitely be inertia (kyo/tohru, 59k). it's a canon divergent friends with benefits AU i wrote during the pandemic! writing it changed the trajectory of life in numerous ways... yes that is very sappy but it's true!!

hanajima and uotani are such important characters and i love the role they play. fruits basket was never about “getting the guy,” but i love how much the show acknowledges tohru is cherished and loved by her family, friends, AND kyo. it’s not essential for a shoujo manga to have well fleshed out female side characters that don’t exist to solely push the protagonist towards romance or to compete with her, but my god im glad fruits basket delivers. they are their own people, they aren’t just archetypes, they are treated as smart and competent. they also just feel so natural, like we obviously know their history with tohru but their interactions with her really demonstrate how much they know and care about each other.

I got pretty emotional making this one! Fruits Basket had a huge, profound effect on me in my teens, and I often curled up with it for comfort and a sense of companionship during hard times. Now as an adult, it's been a while since I've read the whole series through, but I pick up random volumes fairly often and skim through them to get that familiar rush of warmth. It's still such a lovely series!
