This looks like the perfect dessert to take to Sunday dinner, am I right!? Does anyone still do Sunday dinners at their parents or grandparents house馃枑 anyone? We used to have dinner at my grandpa Kenny's house every Friday night, it was a lovely tradition that I miss dearly. I hope to restart it when my kids move out of the house, as a humble way to reconnect person to person. Plus, a chance for me to cook way too much food and send some home with them. 馃槈 #onceamomalwaysamom am I right... Tell me about your family dinners, are they just with your kids, or do you go to a relative's home for a few hours!? I think being a homesteader has made me think about what homesteading means to me, such as home maker, cooking cleaning raising children as the main activities, but also traditions, family, of all sorts. I find it interesting to see how 1 tradition can be remembered for years to come, all the memories made..... I'll truly cherish, over a simple kind gesture as simple as inviting your relatives over or even friends, to a meal at the table. this to me is what they mean by actions speak volumes! I hope to have my actions also speak volumes, by not only learning about my passions and helping others learn as well. I hope to be one of these people that others go to looking for the answer they seek... Not in a I want to be famous sort of way or anything but simply because that would mean to me that I did my research so well that its correct and it can and will help others and they know this because I've tried so hard to learn the accurate answer and not just any answer.

For any of you whom are looking into getting quail, or already have... I think this is a great video for anyone with celadon egg layers or possible Celadon's / or just unknown genetic birds. I had thought when our first batch was candled that many of the Celadon's were infertile was interesting. With so many breeders in the us, and not always knowing exact genetics like other animals, it makes it harder to know certain traits, disease, fertility and so forth. Some of what is talked about I have not watched the entire video talks about Celadon's being crossed with pharaoh and having deformities and other issues. I do know my first batch has this or are carriers, so I will be working with my birds to see how to reduce any problems. I may even wait to sell my celadon / carriers, but we'll see how they develop, and their offspring does. If anyone has any insight, please comment below to help myself and others to better the animal as a whole. I am in no way trying to put anyone down, and purely just want to share information so others can make educated decisions, and to hopefully build awareness for some of us that would like to try to breed these issues out if possible or find ways to reduce issues as best as we can. Thank you all for being understanding and I hope you'll share this information with others.

I've been trying to read up on the health benefits of Quail meat, but it seems to be hard to find. Even though many areas of the world consider Quail to be a delicacy. Here's a bit of information that I did get, and its quite interesting I hope to post soon one about chicken meat as well to give everyone an idea of the differences. I know at least on our homestead we want to make the switch to mostly Quail meat / eggs, however as we grow and learn I hope to one day add more ducks (preferably Muscovy), maybe even goose (since many if not all breeds are heavy grass eaters). the main goal is to grow and raise our own meat, veggies / eggs and dairy for our family of 4 and our dogs (not so much dairy for them), and if we ever find the right one maybe a kitten or two. Not only do I want to raise & grow our own foods but the foods for the animals we're raising as well. Like many the goal is as self-sufficient as possible, but to I'd also love to turn this goal into a career to help others get to where we eventually will be, and to sell our extra's since it would be my / our business we can set the prices, or we can donate. The control to be able to decide if WE donate, or lower prices when needed or give deals etc., will be ours to choose instead of going into work daily to see the prices going up and down every other week leaving low income families to wonder if next week's paycheck will be able to afford eggs, soap, etc. because no one knows what the price is going to be next week, sometimes even the next day.

Hello! This is Saphire, we believe her to be an Alpine dairy goat (she could be something else or a mix) anyways she should roughly produce 2 gallons per day if our breed guess is correct and at her peak of milking. For those of you whom don't know goats usually don't have the exact same amount of milk production the entire time they're in milk, some have more after their first or even second kidding (kidding means they had babies). My biggest point to this post is that goat milk is naturally lactose free, yeah, you heard me right lactose free. I personal have had babies that were born seemingly lactose intolerant, they were given soy formula by the advice of their pediatrician. Well as I got older and did my research soy is the plant equivalent of one of women's natural hormones estrogen - in some cases it can cause male humans sperm count to drop, and if prolonged use it can cause infertility. My son used soy formula for roughly the entire 1st year of his life, I now know it "could" have an effect on his body. I wish goat milk would have been around more so than (in my area) and that I would have known about its benefits. Any mothers needing to use formula, might want to try to buy local goat milk or look into if powdered goat milk could be a good option for their child even if were not in a formula shortage by the time, you're reading this. I think all of us mothers or fathers agree we just want to raise our children well and give them all of the best possibilities to grow strong and healthy! I'll leave you with this last thought, after reading this find out if its legal to sell goat milk in your county or state raw or pasteurized and if the answer is no (its illegal) think about contacting your county and state representative to change this matter. So, if were ever in a shortage again, we won't be having to scurry to possibly change a law, because it will already have been a fixed problem. Also talk to them about allowing farmers and homesteaders to be allowed to sell these products from their farm/homestead as well as farmers and flea markets, and last but not least stores and restaurants. Everyone deserves access to good quality homegrown products / byproducts from hardworking local farmers and homesteaders, together we can help each other.
Thank you for reading until the end, I truly appreciate any and all support for our homestead and other homesteads and farmers.
Have a wonderful day!

Fruit will last 3 weeks longer....

Why You Should Keep Fruit In Mason Jars Instead Of The Containers They Come In.......
When you get your fruit home from the grocery store, the first thing you should do is remove it from the plastic containers they鈥檝e come in and recycle them. Next, clean out your sink and fill it with water (you could also use a large bowl). Then, toss in a few tablespoons of distilled vinegar. You鈥檒l then want to submerge your fruit in the water and let it soak for about 10 to 15 minutes. The purpose of this is to get rid of any mold or bacteria on the fruit which is what causes them to go rotten more quickly.
Once the fruit has had a nice soak, remove it from the vinegar water, transfer to a strainer, and rinse with cool water. Leave the fruit out to dry on a tea towel or paper towel. Once dry, transfer the fruit to mason jars and seal up those lids. This is the best way to make your fruit last, particularly berries, which tend to be very prone to mold and bacteria buildup.
And that鈥檚 it! Incorporating these few extra steps into preparing and storing fruit can help you eliminate food waste, save money, and keep your fridge stocked with fresh produce for much longer.

Elon & Tulip are two of my amazing Rex rabbits. For anyone who may not know, Rex is a breed of rabbit as well as a fur type in rabbits. Rex fur has a very plush feel kinda like squish mellow plushies!! These 2 had a beautiful litter, and now we have just 1 buck (boy) left to go his new home. I'll be posting his pics within the next day or so. If your interested in a new pet or future breeder send an email to [email protected] Just remember you'll have to be able to pickup in Adams county Wisconsin - no other pickup will be allowed at this time.
