Everytime I watch 'About last night' (series 2 ep 2 of ghosts) I can't stop thinking of that one spongebob clip where he says "MR KRABS!! I WANNA GO TO BED" and that's all i imagine how the Captain feels throughout that episode bc he just wants to sleep ☹😔💔

The subtle parallels between the Captain saying to kitty "You love alison don't you, you want her to stay?" And then Next series we're introduced to Havers and it's clear the Captain is in love with him and then Havers leaves. Clearly speaking from experience isn't he

James doesn't know who he is without the war, without his role as The Captain. When he tries to picture himself, the green of his uniform is all he sees.

He knows how he feels around Havers – Anthony – but those feelings aren't removed from the circumstances in which they met. Underneath it all, he's still a soldier in a war.

He doesn't know what more he needs to be.

There's still meaning to be found outside of looming battle (however far away it turned out to be). James is still a person without being an active soldier.

He just doesn't know how to be anything else.

But he has interests, likes, and moments of joy unrelated to the uniform that he wears like a second skin. He has his pipe, and cricket, and a deep love for music; especially that of musical theatre.

And he was never all that good at being a soldier, so why is it still what defines him?

Even thinking of himself as James feels strange when being Captain made him who he is. Made him a person worthy of being at Anthony's side, although the respect was still lacking from anyone else.

At ease, soldier, he thinks, but it does nothing to stop the debris of his rushing thoughts from leaving injury, leaving doubts.

He knows that if he were to ask, he'd be reassured that he's still a man, but he doesn’t know if that word has ever fit him as seamlessly as soldier did — as Captain does. And being a person without a clear structure in which to thrive is hard enough without examining that any closer.

Not that it stops him; his mind is a minefield, and no matter how much he watches his steps, he still has to duck, has to throw himself to the ground.

But he'll get up again, for that's what a soldier does.

100% yonderland. My favourite episodes have got to be: It's the thought that counts (christmas ep). Game of crones, the vicious circle. I've rewatched the series so many times since I watched it for the first time in December 2024.

every now and then I remember that Peter sandys-clarke is THE number one caphavers shipper. this man knows about the ship. he used "capvers" in a post. the button house xi cricket photos. ben calling him a "fine man indeed" in the Captain's voice on the last inside ghosts episode. you cannot out-love the ship as much as he does. this man knew how to act in a way that would both destroy us and give us what we wanted 💔

One of my FAVOURITE things about Carpe diem is everyone's reaction when Cap tells them what happened on VE day (essentially coming out to them) and they're ALL respectful of him. Everyone's looking at him, listening and respecting while he reveals something about himself that he has buried so deep. EVEN JULIAN IS BEING RESPECTFUL. No jokes or mocking of him. And I love that they've written it that way to show that it is actually okay and nobody is going to be laughing or joking about your feelings or who you really are. I just love to look at everyone else's reactions after it cuts back from the flashback and Julian has that look on his face, and everyone is so serious because what Cap is telling them all is so important to him.
