flew into Long Beach on Monday, saw this really wholesome group of kids biking to the beach in their swimsuits. I didn’t rent a car so I’m relying on public transit, interesting to see projects I’ve worked on throughout the system and the city. I just met up with some past colleagues from my public transit days

universe really sending me signs to practise more - I kept seeing little kids with their violins or parents carrying them for them, even saw a guy rolling a double bass through train station but thennnn in the in the train car I was in coming home, there was a violinist busking and he played …exactly !! in full one of the pieces my teacher assigned me as a “review piece” that I should have fully memorised at this point 😳

136. A Pattern Language

saw rhubarb at the farmer's market ytdy and purchased some to make rhubarb raspberry crumb bars. i've never made anything with rhubarb before. i used this recipe

some changes i made, instead of simply chopping the rhubarb and mixing with the raspberries and layering on top of the crust, i ran the rhubarb through the food processor bc i wanted smoother, jam-like texture. i was worried the cellulose would leave a stringy texture ? maybe some ppl like it in bigger chunks to get a bit of a crunch.

i thought at first i had to peel the rhubarb but all that did was get rid of the bright pink colouration. addiing more raspberries to the mix brought the pink colour back, otherwise it was more of a green.

also instead of simply halving the dough and crumbling it on the top of the fruit layer, i made more streusel with oats, AP flour, butter and roasted almonds. i added a bit of milk too bc the mixture was very dry. overall, i think the look matches the blog photos well though my bottom crust layer is noticeable thicker - which i don't mind bc it's giving shortbread.

i was pretty surprised that it's more raspberry forward but the rhubarb contributes a lot of punchy tang !
