I am a 29 year old prairie girl from Winnipeg, MB. Winnipeg folk tend to be a self-deprecating bunch, and I'm here to remedy that. I once had a Torontonian convinced he could move to our great city within five days. How many posts will it take to convince you? Disclaimer: I only post events that interest me personally; this is not an aggregation of all things Winnipeg. I will do my best to post correct dates, times, and descriptions, but as an intelligent life form, you have an obligation to double-check! Need a recommendation? Just ask! Have an opinion? Submit a post! If you're from Winnipeg and enjoy dining out, visit my food review blog: dine out winnipeg.

My wife and I are looking at learning swing dancing, just looking for a place to learn on either Friday evenings or Saturday evenings. Please advise if this is the correct class for this. Randall Nault
Saturday Night Swingout is the perfect place for that! It’s $10 for the beginner class and dance, starting at 8pm. It’s at Ted Motyka’s on Main Street.

I work for Studio 393(393 Portage Ave, in the skywalk between Portage Place and The Hudsons Bay), a Hip Hop studio located in Portage Place mall. We provide free programming to youth aged 12-28 interested in music, dance, and art. I would encourage any followers I have, or anyone they know to attend! It is a super important place that provides youth with an opportunity to express themselves creatively amongst a community of peers.
One of the things we offer is a program called After School Leaders. After School Leaders provides High School students with the opportunity to explore life skills, and career development and management through Art. Participants will create work to be exhibited or performed during a finale at the end of the program. Youth will be creating art to be exhibited in a gallery, composing and recording original songs, creating music videos, and learning choreography. The link I included is a video of a past After School Leaders song that was written and recorded.
After School Leaders takes place March 9th - June 12th on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 4:00pm - 7:30pm. Participants will be provided with bus tickets to attend programming and a snack/meal.
This is such a great opportunity for youth so if any of my followers are high school students in Winnipeg, or know anyone who might be interested I could send you an application. Email me at [email protected]. I’m also willing to drop off or pick up applications tomorrow after 6:00pm. You can also apply tomorrow at Studio 393

Note
They don't include popcorn and soda at Cineplex anymore on Tuesdays :( (but it's still cheap)
Cheap Tuesdays is now $5.99 plus tax for the movie alone, which is kind of nice if you`d rather not have the snacks!

Hi! I'm from Montreal and I will come to Winnipeg for work from July 8 (tuesday) to 11 (friday) and I'm searching the web to see if there would be by any chance some West Coast Swing social dances. I found your post: "West Coast Swing WednesdaysRoyal Canadian Legion, Winnipeg Polish Branch #2461335 Main Street at Machray Avenue2nd Floor Banquet Hall...". I was wondering if you had the chance to verify that... Looking forward to hear from you! :) Isabelle
Hi Isabelle! I`m sorry this reply is coming so late. I`ve been travelling. Hopefully you were able to find some swing dancing in Winnipeg or something else fun to do! For future reference, there is http://swingdancewinnipeg.com/ and a fb page where people will answer your questions.

The SWAP Team presents, Take Off Your Clothes!
Submitted by The Swap Team:
On Saturday, April 19th, 2014, our Winnipeg Chapter of The Swap Team (www.theswapteam.org) is presenting its 2nd Clothing Swap at Delta Winnipeg. The Swap Team is a non-profit social enterprise run solely by volunteers across Canada. See our website for more information on our Mission Statement.
The Swap is a great opportunity to clean out your closets and donate or participate and find some great new-to-you (and in many cases new!) clothing, outerwear, shoes and accessories for men and women. We do get some children’s wear as well. We have a great raffle with lots of goodies, MC College will have students out to help with quick hairstyles and nail art and more!
How does it work? Check our event page at www.theswapteam.org/winnipeg and it will provide you with information on the event, tickets, and more. Part of the proceeds from the event will go to Kids Help Phone as a kickstart for the walk in early May. Clothing remaining at the event will be donated to 3 charities-Chez Nous, The Clothes Closet and Siloam Mission.
Feel free to contact us for more information at [email protected]

Running February 27 - March 9, 2014 Tickets: $15-25 + $1.50 fee
A world premiere, written and performed by Debbie Patterson Debbie Patterson’s bold new work intersects core- area residents with a disabled food bank volunteer in an attempt to unlock the mystery of how neighbourhoods evolve and how we cope with unstoppable processes of destruction. Drawn from a series of first person accounts – each with their own unique perspective on the strengths and challenges of this troubled area, Sargent & Victor &Me is a haunting narrative infused with a potent honesty that illuminates Patterson’s capacity to touch difficult and often dark subject matter with humour and grace.

Fringe Festival needs volunteers!
Hey wonderful Winnipeggers!
The title speaks for itself, but I'll go on anyway.
As a lover of the Fringe, I've gotta say, volunteering is one of the best ways to experience this festival. You feel good helping people out, you're part of making it all happen, and you get to see some free shows to boot!
This year's Fringe needs about 150 more volunteers to sign up! Get yer butt over to the website and be part of the awesomeness that is Fringe.
