Shortened Story: first encounter, after the craziest fight, jumps and burst of energy I have ever seen, this fish came unbuttoned at the net and her tail brushed the rim of the net as she slid back into the river. Second encounter. Making shitty cast all day, snagged a limb on the bank. Skating my fly across the top of the water as fast as I can and as soon as I lifted the fly at the boat, she showed herself just to say hello and submerged again. Third encounter, now I’m even more prepared. Excited that this fish stayed in the area and with my Muskie sensors tingling tonight would be the night I said to self. With heavy storms approaching and not much time to spare we got to the area. 5 cast in, no sign, 10, 20, 30. Thunder lightning getting closer. Few more cast and there she was again. Inches behind the fly and I can see her far away. For once, I stayed extremely calm coming into the figure 8 with her nose on the fly. I come in and turn out from the boat to watch her turn under the boat and head to the depths leaving me heart broken again. Now it’s raining and lightning bad. Hurried off the boat and hid under a tree that looks like it once was already struck. I guess when a severe thunderstorm turns into a tornado watch things can get bad... Now with the river brown and derby filled we headed back to the ramp. On the day we buried her grandpa, everything unfolded. We had a couple hours to burn and off to the river we went. Cast after cast, nothing. She wanted to pick one out and the second cast, slack in the line as the fish are coming at us. Short, but angry battle came to an end. Grandpa was truly helping with this one as the fish leaped at the boat directly into the net. First Muskie encounter for Alysia, thanks grandpa.
