Update 10/?

Hello there!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on here. How are you guys? What have you been up to? Shoot me a message, I’d be happy to chat with some of you!

To sum up where I’ve been: Life got super busy. My studies basically took up most of my time. I moved out with my sister and had to get used to that.  And, well, I fell in love and have been enjoying a lot of time with a wonderful human being Around May I figured out that my internship for almost a year would be in a city around 2 hours from my home. So I’ve been living there, away from my family, my friends, my love, just me alone, not knowing anyone. As you can imagine that was really hard for me and I... well, I haven’t been doing good. Writing slipped to the back of my mind more and more and I was much more focused on actually getting through the day. Buuuut I’ve two weeks left and I’m doing a lot better now! I actually started painting and really got back into reading.

I don’t think I’ll be posting too much in the near future. I’ll be back to school in two weeks and then there’ll be exams and all that stress again. So I don’t think writing and being active on tumblr will fit into my schedule.  But I will definitely keep chasing my dream of publishing a book. Maybe I’ll squeeze in an update every now and then.

Update 9/?

Hey guys! I have been super inactive and I’m really sorry about that! School is really stealing all my time for me, but at the same time it’s so interesting and awesome and I really, really love it. Yesterday we got to look at our own blood under the microscope and that was just plain awesome. I was literally freaking out.

As you may guess, I haven’t gotten around to writing a lot. I did write a bit, though, but just not much. I’m still extremely excited for this story and I’m absolutely digging it. My big goal is to finish the first draft by the end of this year and get it ready for beta reading next year. I think the goals is more or less manageable, we’ll see.

I will keep you updated, just with a little... delay. Thank you guys for all the support and I hope you’re doing great! Stay awesome <3

In case anyone remembers super anxious me, two weeks ago, I have an update for you!

As it turns out, most of the people in my class are extremely nice. I already got compliments for my hair on day one and have found some friends! There’s even a writer in my class, but I haven’t really talked to her yet (I guess we’re both shy?).

The people I’m closest with are total nerds, they love video games just as much as me, like reading and all of that stuff! One of them even wants to become an astronaut as well and it’s just ah. So cool. I’m so happy to finally have found some people with the same interests as me! That’s so amazing and I’m beyond happy at the moment. This school is already so amazing. 

So, I guess I found my place. If you read this, thank you so much for listening to me gushing about my new friends. I really wanna hangout with them outside of school and spend some time with them, they are just awesome people. Man, I’m talking too much.

Update 6/?

Hello guys! You’re currently listening to super nervous and stressed me. I will be starting a new school tomorrow and my anxiety is pretty bad right now. I’m really scared, as I know nobody in my class (I luckily know a girl in the year above me) and I’m so nervous, I feel sick and my face is really hot (I’m blushing really hard right now).

So, these are my thoughts and feeling as of right now, as I know myself, they will be amplified by around a thousand times by tomorrow morning. If any of you have any tips on how to get to know other people, please let me know, because I am scared.

Anyway, this account is a writeblr, so it’s time to talk about my writing! I’m currently a good 45k words into my WIP (if you’re interested, here’s the WIP page) and I had a really good session this week. I’m really happy with how it’s turning out. I noticed that my goal of 70k words is way too low. 45k words in and I’m not even halfway through. But that’s okay!

I also haven’t been very active the last few days, because I needed some time for myself, yesterday was my boyfriend’s birthday and today was family time (and crying time because of tomorrow, oh well). I promise to catch up with any tag games and your WIPs/posts you tagged me in as soon as possible!

Update 8/?

Hello guys! So, as you may or may not have noticed, I haven’t really been active lately. My studies are really exhausting and time consuming, I barely find time to write! I probably won’t be posting anything else than just some random stuff in the near future (I don’t know for how long), though I will keep progress of my WIP! Writing is going extremely well and I’m having lots of fun. I just started writing the middle point and am 52k in. It’s a pretty big project for a first novel, but hey, I really love doing this! I feel like my creativity has definitely sparked up lately. I’m really happy.

I just had to update my WIP page, as I put up the word goal to 100k instead of 70k. I’m currently at 50k (hooray! halfway through!) and have noticed that I’m only in around the middle of the story. So 70k is probably quite a bit too low. Shit’s just about to get started now and I’m excited.

This week has been tough. School has been really exhausting and I’m also searching for an appartement to move into with my sister. But at least I had some extremely tasty ramen yesterday! Today I’m just gonna relax, do some beta-reading and write a bit! Playing video games is also on the plan. I really wanna finish Bioshock Infinite.

I have this deep, burning desire to create, so I’m gonna go and write my entire novel in one sitting (jk that would take like five years because it’s so long)

I got to go home early from school today and met my best friend on the way! I also learned a lot about medical terminology which was pretty fun!

Last month I hit 600 followers

I held a giveaway for three modboards (only one of the winners contacted me, so I guess the others forgot or something) and here is the one I did for @estrella-and-co!

It’s for her OC Senisa, who sounds like such an interesting character! I thought the colours blue and orange fit her, as she has quite a bit of temper but is also a super big softie.

Martian Cities - Ruby

RUBY CITY

Ruby City is the capital of Mars, the first city founded and also the site of the first human footsteps on Mars. Everything about it is a historic site, because for the part of Mars where history was being made, it was the only city on Mars, from the first landing to the first government to the first murder and - well, you get the idea.

So: what does being the capital of Mars actually mean? Government on Mars functions as a loose coalition of semi-autonomous city-states, with Ruby City being the technical capital of this coalition. The largest six cities (Diamond, Ruby, Sapphire, Topaz, Amethyst, and Emerald) have almost complete autonomy, but the central Ruby government exerts much more control over the smaller, less independent cities (such as Aquamarine, the Silver Cities, and Cat’s Eye).

The city itself is a mix of various construction styles, from the oldest, NASA/ESA/Roscosmos-style constructions to the newer, more advanced (not to mention taller) buildings that are especially prevalent in newer cities such as Sapphire. Since space is at a premium (yes, even though it’s an entire new planet, the city still has to be supplied with oxygen and pressure and so forth), buildings are generally built up and not across, meaning Ruby City has some of the tallest buildings on Mars.

The color of the city of course comes from the color of Mars itself (red planet == red city). However, there’s a very interesting mechanic that affects this city, and only this city. As you might (or might not!) know, sunsets on Mars are typically blue:

But since a blue sunset would ruin the red aesthetic, all glass, plexiglass, plastic, or other clear substances used in building are fit with a special filter that turns the blue sunset red. This is by official government mandate, and has been going on for over fifty years.

Ruby City is the most populous Martian City. However, it’s the fifth-largest in area, because of the fact it was built first and thus physical area was even more expensive than for the other cities.

Martian Cities - Sapphire

SAPPHIRE CITY

The center of tech development on Mars, where exciting innovations are being made every day!* Site of the tallest buildings on Mars, both because of the lower gravity and because all the tech companies have to compete with each other to have the biggest and flashiest and tallest buildings.

Sapphire City was originally created because of the opportunities afforded by Mars for technological innovation - the lower gravity allows for more fragile structures or crystals to be created that wouldn’t survive in the harsher Earth environment, plus the near-vacuum of Mars (<1% Earth) allows for a lot less contamination of valuable electronics. Several companies moved their production lines there, and this let the city rapidly grow because of employees following the company, and new jobs that attracted recent immigrants to the city.

Where does Sapphire City get its power from? This is one of the most common questions, given the immense power drain created by so many companies, and the lack of a massive power grid. Wind power is unusable, given the thinness of the air on Mars, and its farther distance from the Sun means a truly massive field of solar panels would be required to generate the required power. 

The answer is two-part. Nuclear energy remains just as viable, and on the outskirts of Sapphire City there are some truly immense power plants. However, even they can’t provide enough energy for an entire city, and are in fact largely there as backup/support power systems for the true generator of Sapphire City: geothermal energy.**

Though Mars is somewhat geologically dead (no tectonic activity, no active volcanoes, etc.), there is still plenty of heat stored or even temperature gradients that can be used to generate energy. Sapphire City is one of two Martian cities to be built over a large source of water (the other being Aquamarine, although for different reasons), and it uses this large underground reservoir in order to generate the power required to run the city (for more on Martian geothermal energy, check out this paper).

Sapphire City is both the second-most populous Martian City (behind Ruby) and the second-largest in area (behind Diamond City)

Vilthas Worldbuilding: Geography

It’s time for you to get to know beautiful, beautiful Viltha, the places around it and the wonders hidden in the world. If you would like to be added to/removed from the tagging list, let me know!

What the view from Viltha might look like more or less. {image credit}. 

Viltha is a small town, consisting of the town itself and the population around it. The spectacular thing is the geography around it, in the breathtaking region of Skogrion. Most of it consists of a taigan forest. A seemingly endless green ocean stretches over hills, most of the trees being conifers. There are lots of blueberry bushes, a highly cherished dessert in Viltha.  Next to the town, a big lake decorates the landscape, its water cold and full of fresh fish. A small river leads from the mountains to the lake and away from it. Since the humans have settled down next to the lake, it’s always been their symbol for strength and durability. It is common for the people of Viltha to go take a swim or go fishing on the lake, either as an entertaining activity or as a philosophical relaxation. From the town, the lake is one of the most magnificent sights. Not necessarily because of the water, but because of what’s behind it.  Towering above the people, above the trees and even above all the hills, the volcano Laebrenna warms the earth underneath it. Near the foot of the volcano, most of the peasants have placed their fields, as the vegetables and cereals grow perfectly in the warm environment. The people of Viltha have feared the Laebrenna for hundreds of years. Only in the past few decades have they learned to profit from it. Since then, it has become a symbol of fertility and life. It is said, that the magic of the circle is drawn from the magma inside of the volcano, but it remains to be a secret whether or not that idea is true. Viltha is also the connecting town between the north and the south. In the south, the climate gets warmer, there are several deserts and plains.  In the north lays what the people of Viltha call the ice kingdom. The temperature is freezing cold and somehow the inhabitants still manage to live a wonderful life.  Due to the extreme climates both north and south of Viltha, a lot of people decide to move to the town and marvel at the terrifying, yet beautiful volcano next to it.
