Ever since Shazz doodled this, I've been thinking about the comedic tragedy of Jonan transitioning after building up such a powerful reputation, and then going on this adventure while mute, unable to correct anyone who is using her dead name and old pronouns. Just really making those times being recognized a double edged sword: yes, people will back away in fear and know your power, but at what cost?
Bonus thomk, Sev is the one intensely correcting people for her, but he has no idea she's trans and just thinks everyone else is being rude to this person who is clearly a lady.

back during my old webcomic, runewriters, there was this wild phenomenon where multiple lesbian readers specifically let me know they found Jonan (necromancer who is an insufferable asshole and also definitely a man) attractive, for some reason they couldn't fathom. the other day a friend brought this up again and I suddenly wondered if actually all those lesbians were just picking up on something that Jonan and I did not know................ anyway here's the obligatory "version of rw where jonan transitioned and changed basically nothing" doodle

Baby Skarmory design idea. I've seen cool baby Skarmory designs but I think we deserve a scrungly little guy. Based on steel wool/scouring pad and those ugly newborn chicks.

I am on VGen now!! http://vgen.co/stopboorider
the big reason I'm yelling about this rn is because I need to complete some tasks to become a For Real Verified Artist Truely on VGen, which I think are all quite fair to ask. AND THEN I CAN GET CODES FOR MY OTHER ARTIST FRIENDS!! I need 8 more followers on Vgen (reg accounts do not require a code) and I still need 1 more commission and review. Thanks so much if you're able to help with this!!! OwO
more info about comms below:
remember those extremely cheap experimental commissions I took a lil while back??? WELL HERE IS THE RESULT!! currently, my offers include
at least hips up art of characters surprise sketch, can also be 18+ (yay vgen thanks for allowing it) (starting at 40$)
outfit design!!! if you were around when i was doing fashion sketches for patreon, this is essentially a return of that, except in a more reference standard than portrait (starting at 60$)
and then after seeing a bunch of other people have something like this, i also have an option to support me doing art for myself. you can either choose one of my open WIP projects for me to sit down and work some hours on, or just give me free time to work on my own stuff. i don't expect this to be used much if at all, but I do like the idea of giving someone a way to be like "STOP PUTTING OFF FLOWERSHOP COMIC 4EVER BC IT'S NOT MAKING MONEY U NEED, HERE'S MONEY." (starting at 80$)
I AM pondering doing a temporary 20$ super sketchy slots just to get the heckin numbers in to be verified, so if that interests you, lemme know and I'll work a bit harder to get that set up.
#vgen#commissions#commisions open#art commisions#signal boost#rider arts#i really love vgen so far and i just started actually using it#the UI is so easy to understand#there's a lot of steps to setting it up but it feels like the system is working with you instead of against you#i had like one complaint when i first started making my shop and they actually updated and fixed the exact thing before i finished setup#also the fees are like... extremely fair I feel? i do not feel cheated by them or anything#especially with how nice THE REST OF VGEN IS like yeah sure please take some money from this comm and keep running

It has a premium membership but it ALSO has a life time purchase version available. I do not need this app because I'm already great at ignoring my phone maybe a little too much, but I'm delighted to just see an app like this really excelling rn.
Unrelated, Best Boy Hank Green made a cute, no subscription, not invasive and full of malwares app.
It's a cute lil app that helps you step away from your phone and leave it alone for a time you set, to stay away from distraction. If you pick up the phone, the knitting lil bean loses all of his knitting... So if you say "I'm setting down my phone for half an hour so I can efficiently clean the table and bag up the trash" it helps resisting the call of the screen. Because you can't make the bean sad. The bean is too cute.

4th place in the downloads jfc. I think people are starved for simple and honest softwares with no evils schemes and data stealing
#signal boost#also I love that there's little plus signs next to the currancys like you could buy more#but it just takes you to the normal store to spend them#you can't buy your way into a fancy nice house you can only focus your way there#wonderful a plus no notes#also delighted to see it kicking AI ass

i was just thinking to myself the other day that if i do finish a novel, i'd like to self-publish and commission a friend to do the cover (i have many art friends), but my commission would probably just look like me pulling out a bunch of other covers and art stuff that have the Vibes i want. Glad to know this is a valid method 😂
Most complications arise in misalignment --
Some clients are looking for someone to execute exactly what they want but they cannot produce themselves.
Some artists are looking to build things exactly as they want, and are looking for patrons to fund their work.
These two are the poles on the spectrum, everything else fitting somewhere in-between.
To be as clear as moonlight:
None of the above is wrong.
They all exist for a reason.
And ultimately there is a project goal -- "sell books" or "I want one book to sit on myself" and/or other options that exist in the infinite spectrum.

Now Let's Extrapolate a bit:
I have had a lot of clients over the years whom I was initially misaligned with, and the Unbuckling of Art Traffic Jam came down to:
"Oh, I didn't want to bring you other work... because I didn't want to offend you... I like your work..."
Now, to be fair:
The trope of "bitter angry artist whom hates all other art but their own which they also hate" is a trope for a reason.
Working with this type of artist in a commercial setting ("I give you money, you give me art") is going to, with near universality, end in failure.
The vast majority of the time: "You have a budget of $X. I am willing to do Y-scale-of-work in Z-time period" is the norm.
youtube
"It's a fun job, but it is still a job." -- Cypress Hill
Don't worry about being a fun client.
Don't worry about offering a fun job.
Don't worry about how much cash you have -- stay with me, keep looking into my eyes, they are pretty, listen to my voice, it's a bit soft and often a little raspy and it is fun to listen to -- do not worry about how much cash you have. But do be prepared to scale ambition to budget.
Have as clear an idea, "I like this, I don't like this" as possible.
Have as clear an idea, "I can spend this, I cannot spend more" as possible.
Have as clear an idea, "I need it by X-date, I can press it to Y-date" as possible.
Be as open and honest and clear as possible and work with people whom are open and honest and as clear as possible.
There is always room for complications and misunderstandings, given we are human and mortal, but the above will prevent the vast majority of issues.
#my first question now whenever someone is hiring me for a job and there isn't a clear 1:1 example of why#like recently I got an email asking for a type of art I have done before but did not have in any of my public portfolios or galleries#is “send me one of my own pieces of art you saw that made you want to pick me for the job”#combined with “send me a picture of art that is not mine but feels close to what you're looking for in some way”#especially when someone says they're coming from my artstation or whatever it's so easy for you to grab that link#and if they don't respond to this prompt I know they're a scammer! :D

My tar vase came outta the kiln!

I was so scared it would explode or the "drips" would break etc but it came out perfectly Phew. sadly my studio does NOT have a glossy black glaze like my old class so we settled for a satin matte black instead. It was lovely though, it smoothed out all the rough finishing i had (i'm sloppy lol) If you like this vase, you might like my spikey vase/jug too! (everyone says it looks like ferrofluid :') )
