Her face lit up when Vax confirmed that he would still like to have another kid. Even if she was wrong, and the familiar things she was feeling were not due to being pregnant, she was ready now, and really wanted it. “That’s exactly how I feel,” she said, face flushing as she looked into his eyes. “I think I might be pregnant, which is why I asked,” she chuckled, rubbing the back of her head awkwardly. “You’re such a great dad. I knew you would be, even before we got together.”
Vax’s eyes widened when Keyleth said she might be pregnant and that was why she had asked. He was glad that he felt the way that he did, in that case, because he would hate to upset her-however inadvertent it would have been. “Oh.” He breathed, gently drawing her closer to him. “I’m glad that you told me.” He said. And even if it turned out to be a false alarm, he wanted her to know that she supported him no matter. “And if it turns out to be the case, I’ll be a happy man.” He pressed another kiss to her forehead.

mythunderlegion:
Julius was sure a lot had happened to himself as well, but even as his mind cleared further and further, he couldn’t quite remember much besides occasionally being sent to deal with small rebel groups.
His heart ached for Percy, though he did not know what horrors he’d been through, and it was the realest emotion he could remember feeling in the past five years.
“Takes a lot to get rid of me, Half-pint,” Julius said, the corner of his lips turning up in a half-smile. He wished he could say more, but it was honestly unclear to him as well. He remembered pain, waking up to someone changing his bandages - never the same person - until his wounds were healed.
He pulled his hand back, rubbing his temple. Man, why couldn’t he remember things?
“Well, I certainly believe that.” Percy said as he smiled faintly at Julius’ words, looking up at his older brother in concern. Growing up, Julius had always seemed unflappable, untouchable. No matter what the world through at him, it seemed to Percy that Julius would come through it all with his head held high and a winning smile on his face. But something about Julius was different...and the fact that Percy couldn’t put his finger on exactly what it was that was different terrified him a little. Even though he tried to keep it off his face.
“Come on, we should get somewhere where there’s cover.” He suggested. “We can talk more about this then. Catch up, if you like.” And maybe he could actually get to the bottom of what was clearly plaguing his older brother’s mind.
Not being able to help Julius through this simply wasn’t acceptable, in his eyes. Especially not know, with the experience and knowledge that he possessed as a result of the events that had happened in his life.

flyingupward:
allura’s face brightened. she had to admit, it was NICE to be visited just for the sake of it. she wasn’t surprised that of all the members of vox machina, it was pike stopping by just out of kindness. ❝ well in that case, why don’t you come in ? have some tea ? that way we can BOTH relax. ❞ the door to the tower opened a bit wider. a flick of her wrist and a spot was quickly set up for them, allura settling in the far chair as she poured them each a cup. ❝ all things considered, i’m well. better for the pleasure of your company. what about you ? are you with vox machina at the moment or off on your own travels ? ❞
Pike beamed at her invitation. “I would love that, thank you.” She said, and made sure to wait until the door was open fully before stepping into the house. Wilhand had taught her manners for a reason, after all-and she knew that she’d never forget them any time soon because of it. And because of who she was as a person, of course. “Your home is so beautiful, Allura.” She complimented sincerely. She settled down in the chair across from Allura with very little hesitation at all. “I’m off on my own travels, thank you for asking. Sarenrae asked me to do a couple of things for her, so that’s why I’m here in the area but not the others.”

Keyleth laughed, twisting a strand of her hair on her finger as she felt her cheeks burn. “I think that might be a little too sweet, Vax,” she pointed out, smiling at him. “But thanks, that’s really nice of you.” She moved closer, curiously eyeing his newest sewing project. “That’s such a pretty color. Pike’s gonna love it!”
Vax laughed gently at her words, reaching out to brush his fingers along her hand. She was so beautiful he almost couldn’t think clearly when she was around. And then there were times where her presence brought nothing except absolutely clarity to his mind. When she complimented his current sewing project, he positively beamed. “You think so? I saw the color and thought of her!”

Gilmore smiled, pleased to hear that the members of Vox Machina were well. He leaned into the touch on his cheek, the smile widening as he never broke eye contact with Vax. “I missed you terribly,” he said. At his offer to let them know to stop by, Gilmore shook his head. “There is no need to tell them anything, love. But I would love to go to dinner with you. It’s been a while since I was treated to a nice night out.”
Vax didn’t know how much money he had on him, but he desperately hoped he at least had enough to take the handsome sorcerer he loved so much out for dinner. Not just as a thank you for all the help he’d provided, but because Gilmore deserved to be spoiled and showered in love and affection and nice things. “Well then, please allow me to be the one to do that for you, darling.” He said, brushing his lips over Gilmore’s forehead. “In fact, it would be my great pleasure.”

In any other circumstance, Vex would have retorted, rolled her eyes, made some sort of reaction, to the nickname Vax had taken to calling her. But presently, she was able to focus on little else other than keeping a tight grasp on her brother’s arm.
The rest of the room passed by in swirls and indiscernible shapes, some faces of classmates, but no one seemed to be paying the twins any attention, at least not at the moment.
“I’m sorry Vax— I didn’mean to—” She mumbled against his shoulder as he led her out of the room, practically carrying her at this point.”
“I know, Vex.” He murmured when she said she didn’t mean to. That was just Vex in a nutshell, at least he thought so. She did and said a lot of things without really thinking them through. He had a habit of doing the same, of course, but it seemed like she did so far more often.
“It’ll be okay, we’ll figure this out.” He said as he helped her towards the car he had driven them there in. And this was exactly why he had made the decision not to drink tonight.

mythunderlegion:
“Yes, Percival, darling.” She did love to have her husband agree when she pointed out his strength. He was amazing, she was always, always in awe of this man.
“We did leave him with that teleportation stone,” Vex reminded Percy. She was certain Vax'ildan would come running as soon as she got a message out to him that his niece or nephew was ready to meet him. “But I hope we don’t have to interrupt his honeymoon. Gilmore might permanently ban me from the shop,” she said, laughing.
When Percy scolded her, she shrugged. “I guess not. I cut down on those f-bombs though, I think I deserve some credit… and kisses.”
He thought Vex was stronger than he himself was. However, he also knew that she wouldn’t accept him deflecting her compliment, ergo ‘both of us’ was the most opportune thing he could say in order to avoid hours upon hours of Vex trying to convince him that he was in fact strong. Because on some level he knew that he was-you kind of had to be in order to survive what he had-but he viewed that as a necessity, not necessarily an indication of how strong he was.
“We did, because I believe he had he’d never forgive us if you had the baby and we didn’t inform him, does that sound about right?” He had nothing but love and respect for his brother in law.
“That is true, you did cut down on your less than appropriate language.” He said, and leaned in to lightly brush his lips against hers.

Gods, this hadn’t been her intention when she came to check on him, but Vex also didn’t want to lie to her brother’s face. She sighed and tilted her head to the side as she attempted to think it over. It was hard to conceptualize. Technically speaking, there was nothing wrong with Keyleth. And maybe she was just overprotective of her brother, maybe no one would ever be good enough for him in her eyes.
Or maybe it was just the concept of him being with anyone at all made her stomach clench with the realization that it wouldn’t always be just the two of them.
But she pushed the unpleasant thought aside for the moment and looked back at Vax.
“Nothing is wrong with her,” she quickly reiterated. “But don’t you think she seems a bit, oh I don’t know– timid?” Vex shrugged and sat back up. “I mean, even now, you told her how you felt and she sort of just buried her head in the sand rather than properly address it.”
Hearing Vex say that there wasn’t anything wrong with Keyleth just made him more confused. Because if there wasn’t anything wrong with her in Vex’s eyes, why was she so harsh on her? Would she behave this way to anyone he was interested in romantically, or was Keyleth a special case? He honestly wasn’t sure he wanted the answer to that question.
He shrugged. “She didn’t really bury her head in the sand? She told me that we had other things to worry about right now.” Which really seemed like a rejection to him. “But even if she had, I’m not entitled to her reciprocating my feelings.” He didn’t think she was timid at all, at least not in the way that Vex seemed to think she was-in a negative way.

❝Hot chocolate is delicious. I might be biased because I love pretty much any hot drink, though.❞ She shivers at the thought of slipping on the icy death traps that were once sidewalks. If Airi didn’t have the balancing skills she did, she’d probably be limping to class. She listens as Arisa notes her opinion on the weahter, simultaneously unpacking her necessary supplies for the day.
❝That makes sense to me. I like snow the most when I’m inside and watching it fall outside. Walking in it is a bit less appealing. I couldn’t imagine driving in it, either. The city is so busy as it is, it’s probably miserable trying to drive in bad weather, too. I get anxious just thinking about it. I’d rather just take the train everywhere, even if I have to go out of my way a little. ❞
Arisa laughs softly at her words. “Biased or not, you won’t get any disagreement from me on that, don’t worry.” She assures the other girl. Most people who saw her and didn’t know her tended to assume she liked coffee, but honestly...she hates it. The taste, the smell. She isn’t sure why, but something about coffee has always made her feel ill. Hot chocolate is very much preferable in that case.
“Exactly!” She said with slight enthusiasm. “It’s nice to watch from afar, but not so much to actually experience in person. I’m used to walking places, but even I have weather I won’t walk in.” She rattles a little coin purse in her schoolbag, which is on the back of her chair at the moment. “That’s why I have money for the train on me at all times, especially at this time of year.”

thcsevoices:
His pride, maybe, but that obviously went without saying. Nothing felt like it was broken, the mud that was trapping him had successfully broken his fall and prevented any serious injuries.
Not for the first time, Kiba thought about how Tsume was more suited to a leadership position than he was. Hige and Toboe didn’t seem to have any issue with following Kiba, but it wasn’t like he had any experience with leading a pack. Tsume’s pack may very well have been made up of humans, but at least he’d known how to lead them, how to take charge and come up with a plan, how to listen and not let his emotions get the best of him, most of the time. With Kiba calling the shots, it felt more and more like the blind leading the blind.
Case in point, the hole he had fallen into.
“I’m fine.” He stretched one arm above his head, feeling the wall of the hole above him. He couldn’t feel the top, unfortunately, so it wouldn’t be as easy as simply pulling himself out. “I’m going to try to climb out.” Kiba pulled one foot free of the mud, grimacing as the sodden earth sucked at his foot, as though it was trying to keep him trapped, stuck at the bottom of the hole forever.
If you had told Tsume even two months ago that he would be happily working with four other wolves, he would’ve either looked at you like you were speaking a language he didn’t understand or, and this one was far more likely, socked you in the mouth so hard you would taste your own blood. you’d think, being what he was, that being with other wolves would feel more natural to Tsume than the pack of humans he had been running with before he met Kiba...but that really wasn’t the case. He was more used to being with the humans. Besides, being with other wolves made him think of before...and he didn’t really like to think about his existence before Freeze City.
It hurt, if he was being honest, even if he was only being honest with himself.
When Kiba said he was going to try to climb out, Tsume was jolted out of his thoughts and back to the present. “Don’t do that, you idiot, you’re going to kill yourself.” He said. “There has to be something around here I can toss down for you to grab. Just give me a second.”
He may not always get along with Kiba or agree with his decisions, but that didn’t mean he wanted to leave him stranded there or watch him get hurt or worse. ‘Hold on, I think I see something.” He got up and walked away from the hole, walking over to a box, where something that definitely looked like rope was. From visual view alone, there didn’t seem to be much of it, but it was the best they had.
So he picked it up and carried it back over.

tidesborn:
Obi let out a quiet laugh at her question and assumption. Neither were wrong to be asked about him. “I’ve had something of a falling out with my Order. At a certain point their teachings weren’t getting to me or making sense to me. They were getting angry cause of that, I was getting angry with them cause they couldn’t teach me, or get through to me. So, I just kinda, packed my things and took off.” he shrugged. “Went around helping people, protecting people. A few fights in a pit for entertainment. People learned quickly that just cause I was blind I wasn’t a push over, which lead to some lopsided bets.” he laughed.
“I found my way to your temple cause it was a place to learn alternative view points on the world, Stayed there for a spell, then well, they asked me to go with you, I said it didn’t seem needed, they insisted and well. Here we are.” He explained with a smile. “Kinda glad they did though, You’ve been must more enrapturing company, though your temple did offer good insight.” Keeping exactly what he clashed on his sensei’s with a bit closer to the vest.
“Plus, it’s another group of people and view points to look into then add into my own. No real downside.”
Pike listened as he explained how he’d ended up at the Temple of Sarenrae in the first place. That made sense. Sure, the Temple of Sarenrae mostly consisted of holy people who were devoted to Her, but that wasn’t always the case. Sometimes, they would take in weary travellers on the road who were in need of a place to stay and miles from any inn, or people who had nowhere else to go. It was what Sarenrae would want them to do, so that was what they did. He seemed like a good man, with a noble heart, and that was admirable. Not only that, but it explained why she felt so at ease around him despite him being a stranger.
She smiled when he said she was enrapturing company. “Well, you’ve been pretty good company yourself. I find that travelling with someone is always better than being on my own, especially in terms of the company aspect, so despite the fact that I don’t really need a bodyguard, I can’t be too angry with them for sending you along with me.” She held her hands out and warmed them near the fire.

stealthildan:
of all the people in their troupe, pike was the one vax worried the most about when it came to this new path he was on. he cared too much about her opinion, on making her proud of him, proud to be his friend and ally. but this… this was terrifying, and he was still trying to work his mind around what he had done. and yet… “ it was vex. i had to. i would do anything to save her, you know that. “ they all knew that, he knew they did, but no one would know just how deeply that ran. how his own life meant nothing if it meant that his sister would be okay.
he’d do anything just to keep her smiling.
her next question had him resting his face in his knees, unsure about how to answer it. lying wasn’t an option, not with her. not with pickle. “ i… i don’t know. just… i had this whole plan. and this changes everything, and i don’t know what i’m doing anymore, or if i even should try and plan things. “ what was the point of hoping for the future, between dragons and goddesses…?
daring to glance over at her, the half-elf frowned deeper. “ did you ever… struggle? with your devotion to sarenrae? does it ever feel… i dunno, heavier than you can carry? if that makes any sense? “
Pike nodded. She was unsurprised that he was so adamant about saving Vex, and she said as much. “I’d be surprised if that weren’t the case.” She assured him quietly. She would never say this out loud, at least not while he was this upset about his current predicament, but she felt incredibly guilty that she hadn’t been there at the time that had occurred. If she had, maybe the Revivify ritual, and Vax’s sacrifice in turn, wouldn’t have been necessary in this first place.
But there was nothing that could be done about it now. All she could do was be there for the people she loved moving forward. Which wasn’t nearly enough, but it was the best she had in that moment.
She reached out to gently place a hand on his wrist, lightly enough that he could pull away if he needed to. “It makes sense.” She said, still speaking quietly. “And yes, I did struggle with my devotion to her. Though, ironically, not when I first started on that path. And I chose to worship her willingly, so I can only imagine how much harder it must be for you.”

lunaerising:
he seems unbothered by the suspicion. if anything, percy would be far more concerned if vax wasn’t suspicious of him. a quiet hum, and he gives no other answer for a few long moments. he has no doubt that vax would kill him if he found it necessary, and maybe there’s something relieving in that, knowing he’s not as much of a danger to his friends as he could be. “ the mask? it’s a gas mask. i’ve used it before. when there’s poisons and such in the air. “ he looks like he’s about to say more for a moment, but then he hesitates. shrugs.
“ the smoke, i can’t say really. … i’ve never seen it before. i don’t know what it is. i feel like myself … mostly. a little colder, maybe. i couldn’t tell you. i suppose that’s an unsatisfactory answer, and i’m sorry. but that’s all i have. “
Vax, strangely enough, believed Percy when he said he didn’t know what the smoke was. If he was laser focused on an opponent, or at a situation in particular, it made sense that Percy wouldn’t notice what it was. Though he knew that Percy could be lying, of course he could, “It’s fine.” He said when Percy apologized for not having a better answer for him. “I mean, it isn’t fine, exactly, but I understand.”
It was a relief that his suspicion didn’t seem to bother Percy. And then he wondered why this was. He had the right to be suspicious of Percy, or at least he thought he did. Especially as of late.
“What can I do to help? If anything.” Vax asked softly, surprising even himself.

Because I was reminded of the fact that Vax actually does know Elvish, I am scatterbrained and forgot that entirely (thank you, Ivy!) I’m making an amendment to my headcanon.
Vax knows Elvish, but he deliberately chooses not to speak it. The only time he has anything to do with it in his adult life is if Vox Machina needs something translated from Elvish.

sparksofdaylight:
Vex sighed and finally pulled back from the hug. She felt another surge of jealousy, but this one was different. It was no secret how much Vax despised Syngorn; he didn’t try to hide his disdain from others, not even their father, although sometimes Vex wished he would. And yet, even with all of his vehement dislike of the city, he still managed to find someone that was nice enough to earn his attention, and apparently his coin.
Meanwhile, Vex felt that no matter how hard she tried to impress those around her, no matter how much she studied and kept her head down, she would not find a single soul in Syngorn that felt her worthy of kindness. Except of course her brother.
But she pushed the ugly emotion aside for the moment, straightening up and tilting her head and considering Vax’s options.
“What sort of things does she like?”
Vax blinked when she asked what sorts of things Cyriel liked. He genuinely hadn’t expected her to ask that question. Not because he thought Vex ddin’t care about what was going on in his life-she knew he did-but because she tended to be in her own head and her own little world more often than not. Which wasn’t necessarily a bad thing. At least not in his eyes, anyway. It got tiring on him, of course, but he didn’t mind looking after her.
It was a nice change, honestly.
Again, he wouldn’t say that of course.
“Uh...she likes shiny things.” He said. “She’s a lot like you in that way. But, I don’t think I have enough money to buy her anything actually shiny.” Their father was an important businessman in the city, shouldn’t they have more money than this? Than again, it wasn’t as if he gave them any. “She likes pretty clothes, too.”

it didn’t make sense. none of this made sense. already she had began to grieve, so long that though she knew it would never stop, she had began to accept that. but this… the moment he finishes speaking no time is wasted before the lady of whitestone launches herself into her twins arms, the realization of him being here, alive… real bringing water to her eyes. she swallowed them down by instead tightening her grip around him. “ are you hurt? am i dreaming? i.. i don’t understand… ”
Vax gasped softly as, no sooner had the words about wanting one of her hugs left his mouth, she was throwing herself into his arms, and he didn’t hesitate to return the hug. He’d so missed being able to hug her. Or anyone, for that matter. At least while feeling it anyway. “No, you’re not dreaming, Stubby, and no I’m not hurt.” He said softly. “I made another deal with the Raven Queen. This time, she made the offer. I’ll spent half the year with her, and half the year here.”

diviinedevilry:
While undeterred by his frown there’s a slight pause, pastry to her lips, “would you like some?” She asks, pulling it away to break off a chunk in offering. The months since leaving Nicodranas might still be able to be counted on one hand, but she’s enjoyed the reactions – as varied as they’ve been – at the mention of The Traveler. “Of course you’re allowed to ask! He’s super cool and like, really powerful and fun. You’ve never heard of him? You’re really missing out.”
Vax is caught off guard by her lack of hesitation as she breaks off a chunk for him. She’s very kind, that much is clear. And while he wants to say no, his stomach rumbles in answer rather than his mouth moving to do so. “Thank you.” He says softly, reaching out to take the offered chunk from her. He brings the bread to his mouth and takes a bite as she mentions the Traveler. It’s stale, but that’s fine by him. He’s had much worse quality food. “I can’t say I have ever heard of him, no.” He confirms after swallowing.
