I can only speak on behalf of the devs I still keep in touch with, but I’m pretty sure we’ve all reached new levels of gayness. It’s pretty great.I tried google searching how my local team is doing, and the scores presented to me are completely incomprehensible, so I’m just gonna pretend that we’re winning. Go team, kick those Canadiens’ butts!!

I was really looking forward to this game. Sad that it had to go like this. Especially since I was working on a similar game. Good old times.
I feel you. Trust me, no one is more heartbroken to let it go than us. We spent over a year on this before realizing there was no way to finish it. Sadly, it was too big a vision for a team of unpaid, extremely busy, mostly completely inexperienced people. You’ll probably see some stuff from us in the future at the very least, maybe even incorporating some of the ideas we had here.

Some of the Burgerpants Route Plans
Early on, I thought Burgerpants was the type of guy who would totally see himself as a smooth, jaded, hero, and so having him write a self-insert noir novel seemed like an obvious choice. Every few scenes of the route, you’d get the chance to read the next chapter of his novel draft. We decided that while it’d be a work of fiction, characters and situations would totally reflect the in-route events of the game. Here’s a sample from very early on, when we hadn’t decided if he’d have an actual novel or just a noir-style diary. Warning for vomit mention. And here’s a much later sample. This was probably going to be in the final, albeit edited, but who knows. I might finish this and post it here some day, but probably not. Here’s a template that kind of shows how the route was going to go. For each route, we’d fill out at least some of the template before we started on any sort of detailed outline so we’d have an idea of where the story should be heading. Here’s part of the route outline. Here’s a bunch of mostly-unorganized notes and planning for moments in BP’s and NCG’s route, most from Skype. Quite a bit of this is missing, either because it got buried in a sea of memes or was planning that only took place in my head that never got written down, especially in NCG’s case. I found what Notes on his route I could find, but I think alot of his route was developed during a call. Mainly because in the chat between the co-writer for that chat and I, I saw a call, followed by me lamenting that I made myself gay for the ice cream salesman. If I find more, I’ll update this notes document and reblog this post letting you know.

Closing Time
Hey, everyone. We have some bad news. We’re finally cancelling Lovetale. We’ve suspected for a while that we bit off way more than we can chew, especially since we have jobs and kids and school on top of this, but now it looks like it’s going to be impossible to ever finish this. I’m sorry, guys, we tried our best. I’ll be posting most of our plans as I find them, in case you’re curious where we were going with this. If you want to use any of it, shoot me a message. There’s plenty of unreleased art, as well, but I’ve only heard from one artist, so I’m not sure if we’ll be sharing any more of it here. When you see what we had planned, you might realize that there was no way we could get it done. Several hundred sprites, dozens of backgrounds, dozens of songs, at least one War and Peace-sized script....and a programming nightmare, most likely. The blog will stay up, by the way. We’re disbanding, but that doesn’t mean none of us will ever make anything again. Maybe even something Undertale or Dating Sim-related. Who knows. So if you want to know what the devs are gonna do after this, stick around and we’ll keep you updated on games or other big projects. Or if I write that noir Burgerpants novella after all. I know we asked this a while ago, but now that we have more followers it might be a good idea to ask again: What accessibility features would make Lovetale easier for you to play? (Please note that not everything is possible given the limitations of Ren’py/time/small programming team/lack of any budget, but we’ll try our best!) We are already including the option to display all text in a dyslexic-friendly font, but what else will you guys need?

In our game? No, we don’t plan to have someone die purely from a broken heart. As for, like, in general, there’s nothing to suggest a monster could die of a broken heart, at least nothing I can think of. When monsters give up, their defense drops, not their HP. A heartbroken monster would be easier to kill (assuming they’re feeling sad and hopeless, not angry or defensive), however. Monsters’ bodies are very in tune with how they feel, but there is still some physical component to them that cannot be killed by emotions alone, if that makes sense.(Thank you for the question, btw! I love trying to figure out how souls work.)

Heyo! How are all of you doing? Long time no see.
We're doing alright! Well, relatively....a few of us had to leave the project permanently and the rest of us are swamped with either the approaching end of semester or wild holiday season work hours and/or medical things. Things are pretty slow as a result, but we're still alive and making progress, so we can't complain!

As long as it took me to respond to this, I’m sure the Canadiens have already lost the season by now! I....I don’t know for sure because I have no idea what any of this means...
Maybe I do need to watch hockey, just to figure out what’s going on. Good luck on the rest of the team, though. Most devs are not even from big hockey countries.That is an interesting idea for Toriel....if only we had writers who knew more about hockey........

Quick Update
As you probably already know, it’s Undertale's anniversary. We figured today is as good a day as any to let you guys know what's up.
Alright, so we are still working on this project, and still have every reason to believe we'll be able to finish it. However, we also realized this will take time. ALOT of time. Our original plan from back in spring was to release Lovetale today. But a while ago we realized we'll be making good time if we get it out by Undertale's second anniversary. It's difficult when you're making a game with the scope of Lovetale for free; we still have to work full time, go to school full time, or both, so please be patient with us!
That being said, we are planning on releasing a demo soon! We're not sure on a date yet, but I would guess November at the latest. The demo will have the first couple months of some of the routes, along with whatever art or music is finished at the time. We are planning to publicly release an Alpha (maybe a pre-alpha) that will not include secret routes, and a beta that will include them.
We are still looking for help! I will be making new posts to reflect some of the changes within the next couple of days so keep your eyes out! Among the changes are new (maybe easier) requirements for musicians, laxer requirements for programmers, and possibly a scriptwriting or graphic design position opening up. The sprite artist post and the BG artist info is up to date.
