synopsis: atsumu miya plotting on you and he might just succeed.

context: you're a second year from fukurodani and you attend a practice match of fukurodani vs inarizaki in hyogo.

the gym rattled with energy, bokuto yelling himself hoarse every time he scored, every time he missed, every time akaashi so much as looked at him. fukurodani’s cheers filled one side of the court, inarizaki’s filled the other, and you sat somewhere in the middle, eyes darting back and forth like you were watching a storm crash into another storm.

atsumu was already running a storm of his own.

“oi, ‘tsumu,” osamu drawled between plays, swiping sweat from his forehead. “yer lookin’ around too much. focus on the damn ball.”

“i am focused,” atsumu shot back, spinning the volleyball in his hands before tossing it to serve. “don’t ya trust me?”

“nah.” osamu’s reply was flat enough to make suna snicker.

atsumu only clicked his tongue, still smirking as he sent the ball slicing clean over the net. he didn’t even bother watching it land. instead, his eyes flicked up again, catching the slight tilt of your head as you tracked the play.

yeah. he had you now.

bokuto, though, wasn’t about to let him bask in it for long. the ace launched himself sky-high, spiking a set from akaashi with so much force the floor practically rattled beneath your sneakers.

“BOOM! that’s how ya DO it!” bokuto roared, fists pumping.

the crowd erupted, and you found yourself clapping along, grin tugging at your lips without you even meaning to. atsumu’s stomach twisted at the sight — he didn’t like sharing your attention. especially not with bokuto.

so when osamu muttered, “yer smilin’ like a creep again,” atsumu just shot back under his breath, “nah, i’m plottin’.

“plottin’ what, killing bokuto?” suna asked dryly from the back row.

atsumu’s grin only sharpened. “nah. somethin’ sweeter.”

the next rally, he set himself up for the perfect toss. the block was heavy, the timing razor-thin, but when he jumped, he knew he’d make it. his arm cracked through the air, the ball slamming hard into fukurodani’s side.

a sharp kill.

the gym cheered, but he wasn’t listening. his eyes darted up to the stands, right to where you sat leaning forward in surprise. and when your lips parted just slightly, eyes widening at the hit, atsumu winked before his sneakers hit the floor.

“yer hopeless,” osamu muttered, shaking his head.

“hopelessly good-lookin’, maybe,” atsumu fired back without missing a beat. “ya see the way she looked at me?”

aran snorted, “careful ’tsumu, your desperation is reeking.”

osamu followed his gaze, then froze. “…oh hell no. not this. you're out of her league.”

atsumu only laughed, jogging back into position with a spring in his step. bokuto might’ve been the star of the match, but tonight, atsumu wasn’t playing for the scoreboard.

he was playing for you.

and in his mind, he was already winning.

"What's all this?" You gesture to the bathroom counter, where various hair dying products lie in wait to be used.

Atsumu hums quietly, "Re-dyein' my hair, since the roots are all grown out."

You inch a little closer to your boyfriend, close enough to put your hand in his rich, dark brown hair. When he leans into your soft touch, you begin to scratch at his scalp in a soft manner.

"I like the brown, it brings out your eyes." That response prompts him to stop mixing the hair dye.

His cheeks grow pink, "Really? Ya like it?" The brunette takes another look in the mirror to assess his dark hair. It's been a long time since he's kept his hair it's natural color. When he and Osamu started to play around with hair dye in high school, he'd never gone back to his brown hair for too long.

Osamu has grown their natural color out awhile back, but he's always wearing his Onigiri Miya cap, so it's hard to tell. Would he even look good with his brown hair? What would his fans think? Well, actually, he only really cares what you'd think.

"I do, it looks nice on you, 'Tsumu. I mean if you want to re-dye it then I don't mind." You give him a soft smile, and he smiles back.

"No, no. I think I wanna keep it brown." He quickly starts to put his hair products away, "I probably need to leave my hair alone anyways, give it a break from the dye, y'know?"

A small chuckle leaves your lips, "Yeah, I know what you mean." He may say it's just to protect his hair, but deep down, you know it's because you like it that way, and he likes anything that you like.

"how do they not catch on?" oikawa complains as you guys walk out of the theater. "i mean, clark kent and superman literally look the same. it's like those cliche movies where the nerdy girl takes off her glasses and she's magically ten times prettier."

"i think it's quite realistic," you reply. "nobody expects superman of all people to be a dorky journalist."

you take a look at oikawa, who's sporting his own pair of glasses, and his usually swept back and styled hair is uncharacteristically messy, brown curls covering most of his forehead.

"besides it's not just the glasses, it's how clark presents himself. the tousled hair, the slightly oversized blazer, the awkward demeanor." as you're listing these features, you notice the similarities between the man of steel's alter ego and oikawa. "kinda like yourself right now."

at the last statement, oikawa's frown morphs into his typical self-satisfied smirk. "aww are you calling me superman? am i your hero?"

and there he goes again. you can't stop yourself from rolling your eyes.

"nah, your personality is more like lex luthor. a professional hater."

"hey! that was mean!"
