Headcanon: Cedric K. Ros-- = Undertaker
Though it’s not my favorite scenario (for various personal reasons), I have to admit that the evidence for Undertaker being Cedric K. Ros– has become quite overwhelming for me.
Cedric is a recently invented spelling of Cerdic and Cedryck. Sir Walter Scott invented it for the story of Ivanhoe, published in 1820. If you take a look at Ivanhoe (set in 1194), you will find one of the main characters is named Cedric Rotherwood. He’s a Saxon lord (a Franklin) who despises the Norman nobles who now rule England. He has a ward, named Lady Rowena, and he plans to marry her off to a powerful Saxon lord, named Aethelstane, in hopes of one day returning England to Saxon rule. Now, Cedric has a son, Wilfred of Ivanhoe, but he disowns his son; Ivanhoe has pledged allegiance to the Norman king and he wishes to marry Lady Rowena. Ivanhoe leaves to support King Richard in the Third Crusade. Meanwhile, Cedric treats Aethelstane like a son. Stuff happens; I’ve posted about this previously. Robin Hood (and his merry men) makes an important appearance in the story, as an informant. During escape from Norman enemies, Aethelstane seems to have died, and monks place him in a coffin. While Cedric is making the funeral arrangements, Aethelstane wakes up and rises from the coffin; he had not died after all. Cedric and Ivanhoe make amends, and Athelstane insists that Ivanhoe marry Lady Rowena.
Now… the Saxons are of German descent, and Roth means “red”. So, Rotherwood basically means “redwood”, which makes me think of how the prefects of Scarlet Fox house tend to have “red” in their names, and that house contains students from the most noble of bloodlines. This Cedric K. Ros– guy, well Ros also means “red”. It could be ‘Rosewood” or “Roswell” or “Roslin”… or something like that….
In Black Butler (anime, at least), William T. Spears says Undertaker is a “legendary reaper” who judged the souls of Marie Antoinette and Robin Hood.
Um, so yeah, I think he could be from the late 12th/early 13th century, committed suicide for some as-yet unknown reason, worked as a reaper for centuries, then got involved with Cloudia Phantomhive, fathered Vincent and Frances, and is undermining the reign of Queen Victoria by trying to break the curse on the Phantomhive family (because it now includes his own descendants).
It explains why the earl can see grim reapers who have not revealed themselves. Even the demon cannot sense them when they are trying to stay hidden.
It explains why he wants to break the earl’s contract with the demon; this boy is his grandson.
It also explains why he would try to save the real Ciel…. But I’ll get to that bit in another post.

Painfully, that's true in my case.
"If I don't reply by tomorrow, then consider me dead." It's been two years since you got that message, and you haven't seen them since. Suddenly, your phone lights up: "Sorry, that took longer than I thought."

Writing Tips
Punctuating Dialogue
➸ “This is a sentence.”
➸ “This is a sentence with a dialogue tag at the end,” she said.
➸ “This,” he said, “is a sentence split by a dialogue tag.”
➸ “This is a sentence,” she said. “This is a new sentence. New sentences are capitalized.”
➸ “This is a sentence followed by an action.” He stood. “They are separate sentences because he did not speak by standing.”
➸ She said, “Use a comma to introduce dialogue. The quote is capitalized when the dialogue tag is at the beginning.”
➸ “Use a comma when a dialogue tag follows a quote,” he said.
“Unless there is a question mark?” she asked.
“Or an exclamation point!” he answered. “The dialogue tag still remains uncapitalized because it’s not truly the end of the sentence.”
➸ “Periods and commas should be inside closing quotations.”
➸ “Hey!” she shouted, “Sometimes exclamation points are inside quotations.”
However, if it’s not dialogue exclamation points can also be “outside”!
➸ “Does this apply to question marks too?” he asked.
If it’s not dialogue, can question marks be “outside”? (Yes, they can.)
➸ “This applies to dashes too. Inside quotations dashes typically express—“
“Interruption” — but there are situations dashes may be outside.
➸ “You’ll notice that exclamation marks, question marks, and dashes do not have a comma after them. Ellipses don’t have a comma after them either…” she said.
➸ “My teacher said, ‘Use single quotation marks when quoting within dialogue.’”
➸ “Use paragraph breaks to indicate a new speaker,” he said.
“The readers will know it’s someone else speaking.”
➸ “If it’s the same speaker but different paragraph, keep the closing quotation off.
“This shows it’s the same character continuing to speak.”
