it's another clair obscur WIP! my 3 years of french that I immediately forgot upon dropping out of school is coming in somewhat handy for my clair obscur WIPs.

I have some very complicated feelings about the endings of Clair Obscur. I think it's good and very evocative! But the feelings it evokes are manifold and this WIP is my attempt of reckoning with it. (Spoilers for the game under the cut because some of my friends have not played it yet and it's one of the few examples of media I think is honestly best experienced blind)

the WIP is about Alicia returning to what's left of her life outside of the canvas, and the horrific, all-encompassing grief of losing everyone you've ever loved, and because it's basically my brand now after my jodybeth postcanon au, it's also about living with disability and very complicated relationships. It's about Alicia and Clea, and Alicia and Renoir, and Alicia and Aline, and I want to extend each of these characters a lot of grace about how they deal (or fail to deal) with grief while also staying truthful about all the ways they hurt each other, intentionally or not.

mainly, the they of You Know What They Say About The Young fame are side characters from the game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 who only ever get like 3 lines total and YET I am obsessed with them, and what they're saying is "wow, I sure am conflicted about the fact that we are taking a teenager on the suicide mission you traditionally only venture on in the last year of your life, if at all."

(this is barely even a first draft so there will be mistakes aofkdkdkd)

Den Ausdruck eines Meschen, der zum ersten Mal erfährt, dass diese Welt dir Dinge antun kann, die du dir nicht einmal ausmalen kannst, und dass es Menschen gibt, die diese Erfahrung schon lange vor dir gemacht haben, die sie in den Knochen stecken haben, die sie einnehmen und ausstoßen wie die Luft zum Atmen.

Merit scheint nicht einmal überrascht. Dunkelrotes Blut klebt bereits an Livias Knöcheln, als sie ihre Faust zurückzieht. Merit zögert keine Sekunde lang.

Schlampig, aber beachtliche Kraft, ist Morgans erster, automatischer Gedanke, als Merit sofort zum Vergeltungsschlag ausholt. Nicht, dass ihr all die Kraft etwas hilft, wenn ihr ganzer Körper ihre Bewegung so deutlich ankündigt, dass sie auch gleich eine schriftliche Einladung hätte schicken können. Der Gedanke hallt in Morgans Bewusstsein nach in einer gänzlich unbeeindruckten Tonlage, als würde er bei seinem Urteil noch nicht einmal von Morgenzeitung und zuckerfreiem Hibiskustee aufsehen.

an attempt to translate Wipe You Clean With Dirty Hands into german! i figured of all of my more explicit fics it had the best chance of being allowed on the rather strict german Fanfiction site. I don't think my usual niche of 20k words of sucking and fucking with the Horrors and the Joys thrown in as a treat would go over well there.

the translation process went pretty well jntil I realised that I have no idea how proper nouns in TLT were translated into german as I only have the english language Audio books...

this one i literally started yesterday! No snippets I'm confident in enough to show yet, but breaking with tradition this fic is actually for the Hunger Games fandom! I recently finished Sunrise On The Reaping, enjoyed the hell out of it, and for the crime of mentioning it once or twice or a bunch of times online social media algorithms have decided that I MUST be God's Most Devoted Hayffie shipper and that it is of the utmost importance to keep me updated on all the shipping discourse.

I've never given a single shit about shipping discourse but like. There IS meat on those bones. There is a good story in there. I am an absolute sucker for any kind of romance story that evokes complicated feelings and is in any way nonstandard, and writing a story about Haymitch, a man who in his own epilogue knows full well that his liver is held together with duct tape and a prayer and that he isn't long for this world still finding himself in love (enmeshed? terribly familiar with? lethally fond of against his best efforts?) Effie while not loving Lenore Dove any less is scratching that exact itch for me

thank you so much to @arithmonym for tagging me! great opportunity to look at WIPs that are oxidising in my folders of shame. Most of those are actually the titles i am currently considering for the finished thing because I actually LOVE finding titles for works. These are in vaguely chronological order from "most recently edited" to "inch thick layer of dust upon each word" but i tend to WIP hop a lot so even towards the lower end of the list I've worked on them within the last few months
