Addressing Concerns About My Editor

Hey everyone. 

I want to talk about the discourse recently regarding my new editor. This has nothing to do with Robin so please keep him out of it and leave him be.

Some context for those not in the know. Recently I hired someone new to help edit the IRL/Non Gaming content on my channel. Main reasons being that it was a lot for Robin to take on alone and also Robin isn’t up to date on meme culture or actively partakes in it so I brought on someone who is. I also just wanted to create more content and having one person edit all of it is a huge strain, especially with an occasional ramp up into 2 vids a day again when I could.

I will admit my screening process for this person was none at all, that’s on me and I should have done better. People went to their twitter and found a bunch of bad tweets, some were edgy jokes while others were “jokes” that I vehemently disagreed with. I brought this up with the person and they agreed that they were bad and deleted them. They were about 16 when they wrote them which normally I would let slide cos God knows I was a fucking idiot at that age but I think that’s a poor excuse in such a connected and social media driven world we’re in now. I had a huge internal struggle about what to do, I took about a week and ultimately told them that I would keep them on but it could absolutely never happen again. They agreed and showed genuine remorse for the tweets and it was clear that that’s not what they actually believe and agreed they were dumb. I wanted to give them a second chance and prove that they could learn and grow and I wanted to be mature and adult about it. Not just cut and run when things got bad. 

However I have ultimately decided to let this person go and not work with them again. Not because of hyper critical nay sayers and “haters” but because some people in this community were genuinely upset about it. They lost faith in me and felt like they couldn’t trust me anymore because it flew in the face of everything I had morally stood for and preached about before and they were absolutely right. I can reason out everything and debate it back and forth all day but at the end of the day if some honestly great people in this communtiy were genuinely hurt by this, then it’s not worth it. I want my channel and this community to feel like a safe place for you to feel like you can be your true self and connect with other people who feel the same. To build each other up and treat each other with respect and have fun and me hiring this person went against all that. So I wanted to give a genuine,honest apology and say that I am very very sorry. No excuses or anything like that,I was wrong and I fucked up. I want people, especially those in the LGBTQ+ community to know that I truly stand with you, now and alwaty.I’m so very sorry if you lost faith and trust in me over this. 

I haven’t been myself lately and coming here these days or most social media honestly fills me with an incredible amount of stress and anxiety. Hiring someone to help with the load was supposed to ease all that but in the end made things a LOT worse. I hear your concerns,I get it. I also miss the older days of the channel when things were nicer and I didn’t have to worry about things as much. The community was nicer and more connected and every day was an absolute pleasure. I promise that I will work harder to get us and the community back to a better place. I’m not a perfect person but I feel like some people, including myself sometimes, expect me to be and that level of pressure and expectation is sometimes too much to meet. I will try my best to find that magic again to create and bring the channel back to a place you’re all proud to watch and be part of. I will need some help along the way so I hope you can permit me some missteps along that journey but here’s to a better time in 2020.

Warm Fuzzies

Hey, JSE community!

Just wanted to say that I'm down sick today and had a couple of thoughts:

1) Thanks for being here.

In the last 2 months I've been dealing with a big career change, husband having major dental surgery, and my mom being diagnosed with dementia. Throughout all, I know you guys are here doing awesome things which help keep me grounded and give me something to think about instead of panicking about everything all the time.

2) The song "Get Back Up" has been a lovely inspiration, but now that everything is in a holding pattern and my stress and poor self-care have caught up with me, I'm going to lie down for a while and make time to heal. To anybody who needs to hear it, its okay to do that. (You cant run for long on an empty tank.) When I'm rested and better, I *will* get back up.

3) I'm delighted to see what Sean is doing with the egos and loving all the analysis and theory from the community! It seems that our lovely potato is getting around to being creative and having fun with some stuff and it makes my heart sing.

That's pretty much it. Be awesome to each other and for God's sake, ITS FLU SEASON. WASH YOUR HANDS A LOT!

Stack of rocks?

I was curious about the stack of rocks in the Chase video today, so I looked it up. A stack of rocks - or a cairn - is an ancient Gaelic way of trail marking or a memorial of some manner.

So.....maybe it's not a grave per se, but rather a nice place where Chase could have brought the kids to play at one time and they stacked the stones together.

Hey I’m kinda new to the fandom, I mean technically I’ve been watching Sean for a little over a year, but I’ve only just recently begun to want to interact in the fandom (too nervous to start a sideblog yet but besides the point) and I’m just super curious about all the ego stuff going on lately and I just wonder if there’s videos to get me in the loop of who everyone is? Especially Robbie (?) bc I honestly don’t know who tf he is 😅 anyways, thank u!! (also I love ur blog ur so nice and funny!)

Hey dude! I did the exact same thing when I started, I watched his videos myself for almost a year before I made this blog!

So, there’s a lot to catch up on, and the best resource I always direct people to is this timeline, which has links to all the videos you’ll need up to September 2018, as well as context and explanation for everything.  I’d categorise things into four main periods for the sake of clarity:

Up to and including ‘Say Goodbye’, July 2016- October 2016: this features the individual ego introductions in Power Hours for Schneep, Jackieboy Man (JBM), Marvin and culminates in Anti’s first full appearance (SG). 

From SG to  KJSE, October 2016 - August 2017: includes Anti’s next appearance, during the PAX 2017 intro video, some assorted glitches (Detention series), the introduction of Chase Brody, and then Kill Jacksepticeye (my personal favourite Anti video). 

KJSE to Mayhem, Aug 2017- May 2018: there’s a lot in this part, including Jameson Jackson (JJ)’s introduction in a Power Hour, DDLC glitches, Overnight Watch, and then May itself, during which we got tons of ego content building up to some truly amazing videos (Dark Silence, Exiles, First Winter, TIE) at the end of the month. I can’t even begin to explain everything going on there, it’s all in the timeline, but it’s so worth checking out and really builds on Chase and Schneep in particular. 

Mayhem 2018 - present: there’s been some minor suspicious times since then, Transference series, Observation series, THIS video which just… watch the last 10 minutes and you’ll understand, it sent the whole community into a freakout that lasted WEEKS

There’s obviously stuff I’ve missed out, there’s so many instances in which small glitches will happen in videos sometimes it’s hard to keep track of now! But the timeline will capture most things and give you an intro to the six egos. 

On the subject of Robbie, he is actually a non-canon ego. He originates from the below thumbnail for an episode of PUBG, people just really liked the zombie design/aesthetic and it took off from there. He has a very loyal group of fans who love him, even if he’s never had any screen time (cough, @lilakennedy, cough). 

And finally, what’s happening now! I’m sure you’ve seen, Jack’s been editing his egoartweek posts to include zalgo, which is one of Anti’s trademarks (seen in posts before, plus video descriptions, tags etc). The absolute best way to understand ego stuff is just to dive in to the community, read theories, you’ll get understanding from seeing everyone talk about it, and people will help you catch up on stuff you haven’t seen!

Angus sat by the river bank, fishing pole in hand as he whistled a tune he had stuck in his head. Jacques stood atop a hill, painting the landscape.

 He pecked out from behind the canvas. “Apologizes monsieur Angus, but could you move to the left a bit. I want you to be more centered.”

 “Whatever.” He drew the line back up. Still nothing. He hadn’t expected to catch anything, he was only out here to help Jacques with his painting.

 “Thank you monsieur.”

 “How’s the painting going anyway?”

 “It’s going well monsieur, but it will take a long time,” Jacques said. “You are free to leave if necessary, I don’t wish to keep you here to long.”  

 “I’m fine with staying here as long as needed.” Angus waved it off. “You also don’t have to call me sir all the time.”

 “Apologizes mon- Angus.” Jacques face flushed red.

 “You also don’t have to apologize so much.”

 “Apol-” Jacques stopped himself.

 Some time passed, with Jacques quietly painting and Angus still not catching anything.

 “I believe this is go enough for now,” Jacques spoke, carefully lifting the painted off the easel. “I will let this dry and finish it later.”

 “Alright then.” Angus packed up his stuff. “I wasn’t having much luck with fishing anyway.”

 “I apologize for making you stay so long,” Jacques said one the hick back home.

 “Hey it was no problem. Also what did I say about apologizing so much?”

 “Apo-,” Jacques sighed. “I keep doing that!”

 Angus laughed.

 “What do you find so funny?”

 “Nothing. I just think your cute when you’re flustered.”

 Jacques’ face turned red. “Oh, be quiet.”

 “As you wish monsieur,” Angus said, doing a dramatic bow.

 Jacques groaned an pushed him in the arm.

Considering my mental state, what I’ve been through, and what I have to consider, I don’t think I want to...because I have a feeling that our Dear Sweet Potato may just use his newfound experience and creativity to rip our beloved Egos limb from limb. 

I don’t want to see that. I don’t want to be made to cry. I don’t need any more stress on top of my pile. 

IF YOU ARE IN A FRAGILE STATE, IF YOU ARE SAD ALREADY, IF YOU HAVE NO EMOTIONAL ROOM FOR DRAMA, THEN *DON’T WATCH*

I, myself, will be taking a self-imposed two-week break from Jack, If for no other reason than that he said, “Do you have a problem with You Tube? Are you watching too much?”

This man has been a constant voice in my background for over a year.
