Sorry for the tags lolz I'm like half asleep rn
A friend threatened me to repost so I will!
Basically, there r tons of fake asses on tumblr who just want comments and followers, so someone started this to see who's actually a good friend. Everyone I tag better repost (and tag other people and preferably threaten them in a creative way as well) bc I'm high on caffeine and newfound lesbianism and will resort to violence.

a/n: Happy Birthday Ary~! I was gonna do angst but i dont think you want to cry on your birthday TT
i wrote this in january lol
tw: not proofread (let's face it, when do i ever proofread my stuff), ooc ruggie i think
pairing: ruggie x gn!yuu
words: 1110
taglist: @luxaryllis @thegoldencontracts @waterthatsmoe

For a while now, Ruggie’s grandma had been pestering him to bring his friend, Yuu, over. She’s been annoyed that he kept talking about them in his letters but never brought them over.
When he finally came around and invited Yuu over, he was actually surprised that they accepted the invitation. They were fully aware of the condition of the slums, but Yuu still accepted> Saying he was elated was an understatement.
However he seems a bit embarrassed now as he witnesses his granny pinching their cheeks like a little child. Yuu barely entered through the door, and she’s already looking to see if they were taking care of themself.
“G-Granny! You’re going to hurt Yuu…” Ruggie tries to help Yuu get out of his granny’s clutches, but she doesn’t listen to him. She seems excited to finally meet the friend that Ruggie is always talking about.
“Oh, nonsense, Ruggie!” His granny scolds him but then diverts her attention back to Yuu. Ruggie’s sigh is heard beside them.
“Have you eaten yet, dear? Come in. I don’t bite!” She gestures for Yuu to go to the kitchen. Ruggie follows after them, grumbling as his granny keeps treating them like a child. Despite being in the slums and everything being rundown, it still has a homey feel ot it. It’s quite comforting.
Yuu smiled, walking alongside his granny before holding up the small box they brought. “I’m not that hungry, but I brought oranges for you. It’s supposed to symbolize wealth and good luck…or at least that’s what Ruggie told me.”
Ruggie’s granny beams as she looks at the box that they present to her. She takes it and looks inside, her smile growing wider with every orange she sees.
“Oh, dearie!” This is so kind of you!” She says gratefully before pinching their cheek again. Ruggie just sighs, knowing there’s no point in arguing with his granny.
“I’ll be sure to share these with the neighbors. They’ll love them to death,” Ruggie’s grandma proclaims before looking at her grandson.
“Ruggie, dear, show your friend around the house. But make sure you don’t touch anything!” She demands. Though by the tone of her voice, she seems like she’s joking. Ruggie rolls his eyes but listens to his granny.
“You got it, granny…” He mutters before ushering Yuu to come with him through the house. There are family photos on the wall that Ruggie points out to them as they pass by, showing Yuu his younger self.
Yuu chuckled, looking at one of the pictures of him. “Have you always had a donut addiction?” They smiled, pointing to one where a kid version of Ruggie was chowing down on a donut.
Ruggie laughs as he looks at the picture Yuu pointed out and nods. “Yeah…I’ve always had a craving for sweets ever since I was a kid. I practically lived on donuts back then, shyehehe,” He answers as he continues to lead them through the living room, then to a kitchen. It’s pretty tidy for what would be expected of the slums.
“And just in case you haven’t caught onto it already, my grandma makes the best donuts in the whole goddamn world,” He gloats, and although he’s being his usual self, Yuu could detect a note of pride in his voice. He’s proud to have a grandma like that.
The two of them stop in the kitchen where a covered tray of freshly baked donuts sit. Ruggie’s eyes widen as he looks at the tray.
“Speak of the devil,” Yuu murmured, feeling themself salivating at the scent of the donuts alone. “Smells delicious.”
Ruggie nods in agreement, the smell of the donuts making his mouth water as well. But before he can take a step to go try one, his granny’s stern voice is heard behind the two of them and Ruggie freezes.
“Don’t even think about it Ruggie,” His grandma says. She’s standing behind the two of them and has a serious expression. Ruggie slowly turns, giving her a sheepish smile.
“I wasn’t going to…” He lied, but the glance at the tray said otherwise.
“...may we try one, Mrs. Bucchi? They smell delicious. Ruggie has been telling me that they’re the best in the world,” Yuu politely asked with a charming smile, clasping their hands together. They learned a lot about persuasion from Azul.
Ruggie glares at Yuu, realizing what they’re trying to do. Nonetheless, he still doesn’t say anything, watching his grandma think it over. She ponders for a few seconds, then grins and nods her head.
“I suppose I can let you both have one,” She says, giving in. Ruggie can’t help but pout as his granny is easier on Yuu then she is on him, his own grandson.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ruggie holds the donut gently, looking at it with a dreamy smile. It looks perfect—just how he likes it. The glaze glimmers on it and it smells heavenly. Yuu had the same kind of dreamy look in their eyes as they admire the pastry. Ruggie’s grandma watches the two of them with a proud smile, proud that she knows how to make donuts so well.
“Cheers,” Ruggie says and lightly taps his donut against Yuu’s before he takes a bite out of it.
Yuu took a bite of their own, nodding in approval as their eyes lit up, the sweetness of the glaze and dough melts in their mouth.
Ruggie’s grandma clasps her hands together as she watches them both relish in the flavor. Seeing the two enjoying the donuts makes her happy.
“Mmm! It’s good, isn’t it, dearies?” She asks, already knowing the answer. Ruggie nods his head as he takes another bite, a blissful look on his face.
“Yeah…they’re perfect, granny…” He says to his grandma, completely mesmerized by the sugary pastry.
“These are amazing…Could I possibly get your recipe if it’s alright?” Yuu sighed in content before taking another bite of their donut.
Ruggie looks at Yuu, giving you a look which clearly means, “You ain’t getting that recipe” while his grandma laughs a little.
“I suppose I can part with it. On one condition,” She informs, raising a finger. Ruggie’s ears lower. Uh-oh. He already knows where this is going…
“Huh? Sure,” Yuu tilts their head.
Ruggie’s granny grins and clasps her hands together, happy that Yuu took the bait. “Well, you have to promise me that you’ll make some for Ruggie from time to time, okay?” She replies and gives them a serious look. Ruggie sighs and facepalms. He should’ve known…
Yuu laughed. “That’s why I’m asking, Mrs. Bucchi.”
Ruggie’s granny laughs again and pats Yuu’s head. “Ah, you’re such a sweet one…”
Frustration
a/n: gift for @waterthatsmoe :P [mafia au]
tw: weapons (just a dagger), mentions of guns
pairing: epel x gn!yuu
words: 1964
taglist: @luxaryllis @thegoldencontracts @waterthatsmoe
Epel’s breathing is short and raspy, as he keeps avoiding Yuu’s attacks. Finding the perfect opportunity, he tries to slash them from behind. It would’ve been perfect—
—if he hadn’t tripped over his own foot…
Due to Vil’s orders, Yuu had been assigned to train Epel. He was already good at using long-distance weapons, but melee weapons were another story…
“Leave me alone…” Epel groans when Yuu tried to help him up, choosing to stay face-down on the ground in despair.
“...Hah…Epel, we have to continue, you know,” Yuu sighed, nudging him in the side with their shoe.
“Why…? Why? Why? I keep failing anyway…” He groaned miserably before rolling around to lay on his back, gazing at the ceiling. “I can’t get it right, no matter how many times we try!”
“Okay, uh…” Yuu rubbed the back of their neck, unsure of how to comfort him. “Let’s…take a five minute break, hm?”
Seeing that Yuu was going to let him rest for a little bit, Epel lets out a relieved sigh, sitting up with a groan. He glanced down at himself, realizing now that his legs and arms are covered with small scratches left by the training dagger.
“Five minutes?”
“Mhm. Go get yourself a drink from the vending machine. You’ve earned it,” Yuu handed him a dollar.
Epel stares at the bill for a second, taking it from them hesitantly. He stood up and walked towards the vending machine, the tip of his ears and cheeks pink from embarrassment and frustration.
Returning with a bottle of water, Epel sits down and takes a few gulps. Even his breathing was uneven, showing just how much of his energy was already used up.
“...This is hopeless…” He mumbles, resting his head against his knee, followed by a sigh that escapes through his lips.
“Don’t say that. You’re already great with long-distance which is actually harder. You just need more practice,” Yuu hummed, shaking the fatigue out of their wrist and hands, then popping their knuckles. “After break we’ll start again with a dummy. I need to see what you’re doing wrong.”
Epel nods in response, taking another sip from his bottle and glancing at Yuu, watching them shake their wrists and hands.
“Maybe…” Was his simple response. He’s pretty sure where he’s going wrong…and that’s just about everywhere else.
After a few minutes of silence, Epel looks over at Yuu. “Are we going to start again?” He asked, and once again they nod in confirmation whilst dragging the dummy out of the closet, causing him to sigh and stand up. He’s definitely not looking forward to falling all over again… but it’ll be worse if Vil finds out he’s been slacking.
Yuu grumbled to themself about the stupid amount of wires and cables on the dummy, somehow managing to set it up. Correctly, hopefully..
“Have at it,” Yuu stepped back, leaning against the wall as they watched Epel face the dummy on.
Seeing Yuu move back, Epel takes a deep breath and approaches the robot. He’s determined to get this right…and he’s definitely going to prove to them and himself that he’s not just good for a bow and arrow.
Raising his dagger, he slashes at the practice dummy, but as expected, it doesn’t go very well. The dagger barely even scratches the dummy’s exterior plating.
Epel sighs, lowering his dagger again. “...This is impossible.”
“...do it again,” Yuu pursed their lips, their eyes roaming over his figure—looking for any bad habits.
Epel looks over at Yuu as if they were insane, but goes along with it.
Grinding his teeth, he raises his dagger again. He’s not trying anything fancy this time, attempting basic attacks. No luck—most of them miss, and the ones that don’t aren’t even strong enough to scratch the exterior of the dummy.
Frustrated, Epel throws his dagger to the ground and clenches his fists. He really did want to get better, but apparently his body was cooperating.
“I’ll let Vil or Rook work with you on stamina and strength.. But, have you tried using your entire torso instead of just your arms?” Yuu pushed themself off the wall, going over to pick up his dagger.
Epel stares at Yuu like they had just told him the sky was green. ‘Using your torso?’ He wanted to snap at them and call Yuu weird..but he’s getting desperate.
Crossing his arms, he glances away, his expression pouting a little. “...No, I haven’t. Should I…? I thought you were only supposed to involve your arms and wrists.”
“Maybe, but your movements are awkward and unnatural,” Yuu gently grabbed his hands, guiding him through the motions.
When Yuu suddenly grabbed his hands, Epel immediately started to get flustered. His ears turned light red, and his stomach felt like it was twisting in knots. This kind of gentle and reassuring contact—he isn’t very used to it.
“Got it?” Yuu looked up at his face after explaining. It’s obvious that Epel was way too distracted by Yuu holding his hands to pay attention, so much so he could feel his expression burning up at an alarming rate. He’s way too flustered to focus on what they’re trying to teach him at this point.
“Huh?” He manages to squeak out, his voice higher than usual.
“Like this,” Yuu demonstrated once more.
Epel let out a frustrated sound once they repeated themself. Now’s no time to get flustered! He takes a few deep breaths and tries to ignore the warmth flooding to his cheeks.
Following Yuu’s instructions, he attempts to use his torso more…but it’s still awkward. The movement feels unnatural, and he almost ends up tripping on nothing.
“Careful—” Yuu warned, catching him before he face-planted into the hard floor. “This is gonna be a while…” They let out a sigh, followed by Epel’s.
He’s so incredibly frustrated with himself, and he’s ready to just quit entirely. He wishes he was just naturally talented at using melee weapons like Kalim and Ace.
“You’re right…” He mumbles, looking away from Yuu and trying to fight down the oncoming wave of emotions. He doesn’t need to add bursting into tears like a child to the list of things going wrong today.
“Epel? You okay? Talk to me,” Yuu’s eyebrows furrowed in concern, standing him upright and rubbing little circles on the small of his back.
At first Epel doesn’t answer. With a clenched jaw, he looks down at the ground for a few seconds, trying to maintain his composure. However, he ends up breaking down, and he leans into Yuu, burying his face into their shoulder.
“I can’t even use a dagger correctly..this is pointless…” He mutters, not bothering to hide the shakiness of his voice.
“Hey, it’s okay. Don’t cry, hm? We’ll figure this out. Together,” Yuu reassured, pulling away a bit to wipe his tears.
Epel blinks back tears, taking a few deep breaths. He feels like an idiot for crying, especially over something so petty. A few seconds pass of him just focusing on calming himself down, before he hesitantly speaks again.
“I’m sorry,” His voice is quiet now, lacking the usual enthusiasm. He’s exhausted, and he looks like he’s about to fall over at any second.
Yuu pats his back, pulling him closer again. “You didn’t do anything wrong, don’t be sorry.”
Epel’s shoulders tense a little as Yuu gently pat his back, but he appreciates the gesture. He’s not used to getting physical affection—it’s nice.
“I think I need a break…” He sighs, sounding just as emotionally drained as he looks. He’s glad Yuu was here to comfort him, leaning more into them.
Yuu nods, sitting down on the floor, scoot back to lean against the wall, before they gently pulled him down with them.
“You can lay your head on my lap,” they murmur, stretching out their legs forward.
Epel follows their lead, flopping onto the floor and his head making its way onto their thighs, letting out another long sigh. He was completely worn out, both physically and mentally.
“How do you manage to do everything so easily?” He looks up at Yuu, seeming genuinely curious and a little confused. He doesn’t understand how they manage to be so talented at everything. It makes him feel rather pathetic.
“I have no idea, to be honest,” Yuu murmured, leaning their head back against the wall.
“You have to have some clue…I mean—you managed to easily adapt to using a brand new weapon,” He pauses for a moment, closing his eyes before speaking again. “I’ve been using guns for ages, but I still struggle with a dagger, which is smaller and easier to use. It doesn’t make any sense…”
“Hm…” Yuu hummed. “You should try putting those long-distance skills to use. Instead of slashing, I think you should try stabbing instead…it might be better for you.”
“Stabbing…?” Epel opens his eyes and looks up at Yuu.
“I guess that makes sense. I mean… it’s a lot different than a gun…”
He pauses for a moment to think. It would definitely make sense, and it would probably suit him too.
“...But, wouldn’t that just make me look like an assassin or something?”
“...I mean, we’re still killing people either way…”
“Yeah, but a stab wound just feels different, y’know?” Epel pauses, trying to put it into words.
“...Like—guns feel more fair. You kill from a distance, and there’s a chance your opponent can defend themselves. But if you’re up close with a knife, they stand almost no chance,” He shudders a little just thinking about it. “...I’d rather be a few feet away at least.”
“Epel, there’s no such thing as ‘fair’ when it comes to being in the mafia. I mean, you read the NDA before signing into this agency, didn’t you?
Epel goes silent. He did read it. Plenty of times, trying to familiarize himself with everything in it—but it’s an entire legal document, he’s not an attorney… Of course, even he knows that Yuu is right. There’s no such thing as fair in an illegal organization.
“...I guess…” He mumbles, sounding a little hesitant.
Yuu sighed, gently running their fingers through Epel’s lilac hair. “I know this goes against your morals, but you chose this life. We can’t afford to hesitate on an order.”
Epel doesn’t say anything in response to their statement. Yuu made a completely fair point. He did choose this life…and he’s well aware of what kind of life it is, even if he tries to deny it.
He falls silent again, just enjoying the feeling of Yuu playing with his hair, sighing occasionally.
After a few minutes of laying there, Yuu felt Epel shift the tiniest bit, adjusting himself to be more comfortable. He looks up at Yuu, his eyes not as tired-looking but still holding an unreadable expression.
“Yuu?” He suddenly speaks, his voice quiet.
“Hm?’
“Thanks,” It’s obvious he’s not just referring to the whole helping him train with a dagger thing. More than that, Yuu comforted him when he cried.
“...it’s nothing, Epel. Really.”
Yuu felt Epel nod again, and then he closes is eyes again, seeming content. He actually feels safe here with Yuu—something he doesn’t feel with anybody else.
“Can we just lie here for a little?” He asks, his tone softer than usual.
“Of course. Just stand up and punch the dummy or something if you see Vil walk in,” Yuu let out a small chuckle.
Epel lets out a quiet laugh, a small smile briefly flickering across his face.
“Got it,” he hums in response, keeping his eyes closed. The two of them remain there in comfortable silence, though he does scoot a little closer to Yuu. He feels at peace, and for once, he’s not worried about anything.
Prison Break
a/n: CHOOSE YOUR OWN ENDING HAHAHA -@thegoldencontracts floyd special ehhehehe
royal au again bcuz why not floyd x gn!yuu
words: 1376
Being part of the royal family is stressful. People would call Yuu ungrateful for saying so, but the constant rules and etiquette classes were depleting them.
Wanting to escape the restricting life, Yuu grabbed their cloak and headed to the local towns in secrecy.
Through a fateful encounter, Yuu was able to meet Floyd Leech, the one who treated them like normal despite their status, resulting in a fruitful friendship.
“Oi, shrimpy!” someone yells outside Yuu’s window, followed by vexatious knocks. They jolted awake, frantically looking around in their chamber drowsily, only to realize it’s from their window.
“Wake up, and let me in~! It’s sooo cold out here. It’s like you want me to become eel jerky~” Floyd had managed to climb all the way up to Yuu’s window—several floors high.
“Floyd- it’s one in the morning! The sun had barely rose!” Yuu scolded with a huff, unlocking the window for him.
Floyd swiftly jumped into the room, landing with a small thud. He laid down on Yuu’s bed, taking up way too much space than he should.
“Shiiiittt, it’s cold out outside~” He shivered in place.
“And it’s one in the morning?” He glanced at your nearby clock confirming it was, indeed, one in the morning. “Oh~... I guess it is~ whoops.”
Yuu pinched their nose bridge, letting out a small sigh. Usually they’d be more happy to see him if it wasn’t four in the fucking morning.
Hey, doncha’ look grumpy?” Floyd chuckled as he watched Yuu’s reaction to him showing up this time. He patted the space on the bed next to him, gesturing for them to sit down. “Come oooon, stop being so stingy and chill with me, shrimpy.”
Yuu let out a sigh, lightly shaking their head in despondency. “Is it necessary to come this early?”
“Mm…nah~” He admitted, shrugging with a small smirk. He sat up and sat cross-legged on the bed, his black streak framing the side of his face. A playful smile tugged at the edges of his lips as he continued speaking. “Just got bored and wanted to see ya~ Didn’t expect you to be all grouchy this early in the morning though. You normally don’t mind me popping up like this.”
‘I normally don’t mind you coming because you don’t pound on my window at one in the morning!” Yuu huffed, letting out small groan.
“Hey, don’t ya’ think you’re being a little too whiny?” He teased in that laid-back manner, as usual.
“I just wanted to see ya’ again. I haven’t seen ya’ in a few days and my brain was rotting from boredom~ I couldn’t wait.”
“...Floyd, I saw you yesterday evening.”
“Eh? Oh yeah-”
Floyd seemed to count the hours in his mind before realizing that he had indeed.
“Okay, but still~” He protested, making a pouty expression now. “I get bored easily and that was too looong. Like- imagine if I really had to wait, I would’ve gone insane by then!”
“Never thought you were a clingy type, Floyd.” Yuu mumbled bluntly, placing their hands on their hips.
Floyd gasped dramatically at the accusation and pointed a finger at Yuu, his eyes narrowed.
“Hey! I’m not clingy!” He lied, but it was obvious that he was. “I just like being around ya’~”
Yuu raised an eyebrow at his defiance.
Floyd glanced away from Yuu, a slight pout on his face. He didn’t have any good counter-arguments as he knew it was true.
“Ugh, don’t do that. Why ya’ gotta tease me?” He mumbled and slumped back down onto the bed.
Yuu rolled her eyes, cracking a small smile. “Don’t take it as an insult, I think it’s cute how much you enjoy my presence.”
He looked at Yuu and immediately gave them a pouty look again. But this time, a slight tinge of pink dusted his fair skin. “Don’t say stuff like that, or else I’ll think you’re the clingy one here, shrimpy.”
“S-shut up! I hate compliments…” Floyd protested, turning his head now, refusing to make eye-contact with Yuu.
“Sureeee…”
“Sh-Shut up-!” Floyd grumbled, giving them a weak glare, his face being a light shade of pink from their teasing. He countined to pout at you, almost seeming like a grumpy five-year-old that was told he couldn’t have a second scoop of ice-cream.
Yuu snickered a bit at his expression, covering their mouth to muffle their own amused laughter bubbling up in their chest.
Floyd glanced up at you, his pout intensifying at the sight of Yuu trying to hold back laughter. He let out an annoyed huff, grabbing a pillow he found on your bed. In one swift movement, he threw it at Yuu.
“Stop laughing at me!” Floyd narrowed his eyes at Yuu and gave them a menacing glare. Although it was meant to be intimidating, the pouty expression completely ruined it. “You’re lucky I haven’t strangled you yet…,” he muttered through gritted teeth.
“Woowww, you would strangle one of your best friends? That’s cold.” Yuu sulked.
Floyd gave Yuu another glare at their mocking retort and chucked another pillow at them with a little more force. “Shut up, you annoying little shrimp. I should strangle you just for saying that.”
Yuu sweatdropped a bit, knowing 99% of the time, he was serious with his threats. After all they’ve seen it first hand while hanging out with him in the market once.
Seeing that Yuu dropped the subject seemed to appease Floyd, and as a result, his expression began to soften a bit and he lost the pouty look.
He looked in a contemplation for a moment, as if he was thinking about something for a moment, as if he was thinking about something before he spoke again. “...Can I ask you a question?”
“Shoot.”
“Have you ever… thought about running away?”
“Huh? Running away?”
“Yeah, like…running away from the castle…from everything.”
He sat up and leaned against the wall that the bed was next to, looking outside Yuu’s window at the sky, the sun rising and shifting the sky into the blue color it is. He didn’t look directly at at Yuu as he seemed to be contemplating something.
“Well, I wouldn’t be able to in the first place. The palace is surrounded by guards and there’s even some on the roof. Even if I miraculously made it past them into the forest, they’d be able to find me easily.”
The corner of Floyd’s mouth ticked up into a small smirk. He glanced at Yuu over the edge of his shoulder and let his gaze rest on them for a moment before speaking.
“What if, hypothetically speaking, someone magically knew the layout of the castle and the guard’s patrol routes? And he knew just how to navigate the castle without being seen. And say hypothetically, this person also knew how to use magic to throw off the guards’ search efforts? Would you hypothetically be more interested in running away then?”
“This isn’t hypothetical, is it?”
Floyd gave Yuu a playful smile before shaking his his head no. “Nope. We’re talking serious business here, shrimpy~”
“Hm…I don’t know.”
An annoyed huff came from Floyd, and he immediately looked back at Yuu, a frown on his face, as if upset that Yuu hadn’t agreed right away.
“That’s it? You just brush off the idea because you ‘don’t know’? C’mon, live a little, shrimpy~”
This is my life Floyd. To prepare to become [king/queen].”
“Yeah, sure~ Prepare for a life filled with nothing but boring formalities and etiquette lessons—sounds sooo exciting,” he said sarcastically, rolling his eyes as he spoke and then he made a loud, annoyed groan.
“I would kill for more exciting things in my life, and yet you’re just willing to throw away the first opportunity to do something interesting. I don’t get ya’ sometimes.”
“...You would kill no matter what…”
Floyd let out a huff, annoyed that Yuu had a point. “Hey, that’s not the point shrimpy. C’mon, don’t ya’ wanna do anything even remotely exciting? Don’t ya’ wanna ditch your boring, royalty life and do something fun and spontaneous? You get to see everything outside this stuffy castle, experience everything outside the castle, have fun, and spend time with me.”
What'll it be?
Yuu was taking a stroll in town. After a long day of classes on how to eat and walk elegantly, they wanted a break from their royal life. Making sure their cloak covered anything distinguishable, they followed the path with a hint of a smile on their face.
What was supposed to be a peaceful outing with the sun not being too harsh, turned into quick trouble. The kingdom’s most well-known troublemaker managed to agitate the guards into a chase.
“Fucking shit— I’m dead!” Ace yells in obvious panic as the guards are hot on his tail. Suddenly, Yuu and him make eye contact. Yuu could tell he was pleading for them to save his ass.
Thinking quickly, Yuu knocked down a cart of fruits, just in time for the guards to slip and roll around.
Once in a secluded area, Ace finally got to recover his breath after running for who knows how long.
“You just saved my ass! I would’ve been dead without you!” He laughs and pats Yuu’s back like their were an old friend. Their disguise was working quite well apparently—nobody would act so casually with a royal.
“Say, who might you be? I never really saw you around before. Though I’m not gonna complain too much.” Ace gave Yuu a curious expression, his body language casual.
“And, uh, what might I call you, just so I can thank you properly for saving my ass?”
“...Yuu.” They murmur, deciding not to reveal too much just yet.
Ace hummed at their response. There was something slightly familiar about it, but he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He thought about it for a moment before shrugging. He was too tired to really look into it. Instead, he nodded and held out his hand, which Yuu took.
“Ace. Nice to meet you,” he greeted with a grin. Ace lowered his hand after shaking Yuu’s. His mind was still racing after the run from the guards, so he couldn’t really pay attention to the small details of their appearance. Though, it didn’t help that their cloak was covering a good portion of their body from his line of sight.
“You’re…quite different from the others,” he states, taking a small pause to think. “Where are you from? I don’t remember seeing you around here before…”
Ace had a more perplexed look on his face by now. Yuu’s very presence was rather… intriguing to him. It was as though there was a mysterious air around them, something that was rather uncommon around the kingdom. His curiosity was piqued, and he felt the need to know more.
“Are you just visiting, or..?” he inquired, which Yuu gave a quick nod to.
“Just.. a tourist. I’m staying in town for a few more weeks,” they reassured.
Ace hummed in thought. That would explain why he hasn’t seen Yuu around before. They were some ‘random wanderer’ staying temporarily here.
“Ah, a tourist. That explains it,” he said with a small nod. Despite feeling like there was more to Yuu than meets the eye, he kept his suspicion to himself.
Suddenly, he got an idea, a sly grin returning to his face.
Yuu raised in eyebrow, narrowing their eyes skepticism. “What’s with the look?”
Ace chuckled and moved closer to Yuu, his smirk growing more sly by the moment.
“Well,” he began, his tone hinting that he was up to something. “Considering you helped me out back there and you’re staying here for a while,” he continued, now standing right in front of them, leaning forward to get a better look at them.
“I think I can offer you a proposal,” he said, his smirk only growing wider.
Ace took a moment to scan over Yuu’s face, taking in their features. Though, it was difficult to see anything under that damn cloak. He couldn’t really tell Yuu’s expression from the way they tensed up from his sudden proximity, either.
But all that didn’t matter—what interested him was the fact Yuu was a “tourist,” and thus an outsider. An interesting one at that.
“You see, I happen to know all the ins and outs of this town,” he stated, his voice low and smooth, “the best shops, the best entertainment, you name it. I oculd be your expert tour guide, and show you all the best places that this town has to offer, but…”
He paused, giving another sly grin. His next words were spoken in a slow, drawl, “There’s a small price, of course.”
Ace took a couple seconds to savor Yuu’s expectant look to continue. He always loved how people were never sure how to react to his offers. Though, judging by how Yuu didn’t pull away already, he had a guess that they were fairly open-minded to his proposal.
“It’s nothing too serious, trust me,” he began with a chuckle, clearly amused by Yuu’s interest, “I just want a small favor from you, in exchange for being your guide, is all.”
“...what’s the catch?” Yuu finally spoke, questioning his proposition. Ace laughed and shrugged his shoulders.
“As I said, it’s nothing too big,” he repeated, raising a hand to Yuu’s face to gently tuck a strand of hair behind their ear. He then lowereed his hand back to his side and leaned in a bit more, still sporting his sly smirk.
“...Are you gonna tell me or should I just go?” Yuu had every intention to leave, giving him a deadpan look—or at least trying to make it obvious, he couldn’t see their face that well. Ace gave a sheepish grin, putting his hands up in a surrendering manner.
“Hey, hey, I’m getting there,” he replied,” “But, since you look so impatient,” he added with another laugh. He paused trying to keep the suspense up for a bit longer. After a moment or two, he finally spoke again, still with a smirk.
“Show me your face.”
“...My face?” Yuu inquired, their voice tinged with a hint of astoundment.
Ace nodded, his smirk staying in place. “Yep. You’ve been hiding that pretty face under that big ol’ hood. I want to see it, since I’m going to be hanging around you for a while anyway,” he explained, leaning in a bit more to get a closer look.
Yuu brought their hand up, pushing him back by the forehead, “I’ll show you. Just not here.”
Ace was mildly caught off guard by Yuu’s action. It was surprisingly easy for Yuu to push him back.
“Ouch, feisty,” he cracked a joke, rubbing his forehead before taking a step back—an amused smile was on his face, “Alright, not here. Somewhere ore private, then,” he agreed, crossing his arms and rocking on his heels casually.
Ace glanced around the surroundings, suddenly hyperaware the both of them were still in a somewhat public area. Anybody could stumble upon them, and that was the last thing he wanted. He had a strong hunch that Yuu wasn’t the type to want to be seen by many people either.
“Follow me,” he said, his voice quiet as he moved to start walking. He led you through another set of narrow alleys, to a secluded spot far from where the public eye could see.
Ace finally stopped walking once no one was nearby—for as far as he could see. The area was well shaded, providing a great cover from any unwanted attention.
“There, that’s more like it,” he smirked, leaning against one of the walls and casually looking at Yuu. “Now I believe someone promised to show me their face.”
“...Just..don’t make a big deal out of it…” Yuu murmured, a bit shy—or embarrassed? They weren’t too sure themselves, the king and queen deprived them of any “unsophisticated” emotions.
A small, amused smile appeared on Ace’s face at your shyness. It was clear that Yuu hiding their face had becom a habit for the time being, and he was eager to see why. He could barely contain his excitement as he leaned a bit closer.
“Just what are you hiding under there, huh? You’re not actually a hideous old hag, are you?” he teased, his tone playful.
In response, Yuu pulled down their hood, looking at him dead in the eyes, expecting shock.
Ace had been expecting something—definitely not this. His eyes widened in surprise at the sight, his playful smirk quickly freezing into a look of surprise. For a moment he could only stare at you in silence, his brain taking a moment to cuompute what he was looking at. Then, it finally clicked.
“W-wait, you’re…” he started, his voice trailing off as his mind still raced.
It took a few seconds more, but soon enough, his initial shock was replaced with a sly grin, his eyes widening with it. “You’re the heir,” he finishes with a whisper, excitement evident in his voice. He couldn't help but let out a quiet chuckle, his eyes sparkling with mischief—a gleam Yuu could only sigh to.
Ace slowly took a step forward. It was only when he closed the distance between Yuu before he spoke again. “Well, well, well.. Isn’t this an interesting turn of events.” He glanced at them up and down, taking in their features. He made sure not to look at Yuu in a pervy way—he knew his manners—but the look in his eyes clearly showed he was enjoying this.
“...are you done?” Yuu sighed, narrowing their eyes as he continued to eye them up and down.
“Sorry for admiring the view, your highness. How inconsiderate of me~,” he smirked, his eyes still taking in Yuu’s form. There was a very clear hint of admiration in his voice, though it was mixed with a healthy amount of teasing.
“Okay, I get it, the cat’s out of the bag. And now that you know, you would understand that I have to go back to the palace before my parents realize I’m not in my room with my face buried into a textbook.”
Ace hummed at Yuu’s words, a small pout on his face. He wasn’t really looking forward to letting you go so soon, especially after learning their identity.
“Already?” he complained, not bothering to keep the whining out of his voice. “But I didn’t even get to ask a single question.”
“Maybe next time.” Yuu shrugged with an unimpressed expression.
Ace’s pout intensified at their response. He was really wanting to learn as much as possible about them.
“Ah, come on, you can’t just give me a breadcrumb and run off,” he huffed, his tone bordering one of a toddler about to throw a fit.
Yuu gave him a blank stare at his complaints, letting out an inaudible sigh. “Fine. Tomorrow, meet me here. Same time.”
Ace’s pout finally faded into a sly grin, clearly satisfied that Yuu had agreed to see him again. “Heh, you got it. Same time, same place,” he confirmed, giving a mock salute as a show of agreement.
After getting Yuu’s confirmation, Ace’s smile turned into another smirk, his eyes lighting up mischievously once again. “See you then, your highness~”
With that, he gave a little mocking bow and a wink, before finally turning to leave. He was practically bouncing on his heels as he walked away, clearly more excited than he let on.
Yuu let out a sigh, throwing the cloak hood back onto their head, hiding their face once more as they headed back to the castle.
------------------
"You're early," Yuu hummed, gently pushing the hood down from their face.
Ace, who had been leaning against one of the many buildings, looked up when he heard Yuu's voice, a familiar smirk appearing on his face.
"Eh, was bored," he shrugged, straightening up to look at them. "I have an excuse, what's yours?"
"...I needed fresh air," Yuu mumbled. Eh, partly true. This is what happens when you have two overbearing, royal parents.
Ace snorted at your answer, a hint of humor in his tone.
“Fresh air, huh? That’s the best you can come up with?” he teased, taking a couple steps forward, moving so he was now standing in front of Yuu.
He took a moment to look you over, his smirk still in place. However, there was a small, subtle hint of curiosity in his eyes as he continued to study you.
“So, your highness,” he stated, casually crossing his arms over his chest. “I suppose I should address you by your ‘proper’ title, shouldn’t I?”
He didn’t wait for Yuu to respond, moving on. “Though I wonder… how the heir of all people ended up sneaking off and walking the town streets alone.”
“That’s…none of your business,” Yuu sighed, unamused.
Ace chuckled at Yuu’s less-than-friendly response. He had expected as much, but it didn’t deter him from continuing to press them.
“Ah, come on, tell me,” he said in a goading tone, a cheeky grin still on his face. “I just wanna know.”
“Curiosity killed the cat,” Yuu shrugged, rebuffing him almost immediately.
Ace rolled his eyes at their comment, not expecting Yuu to be so quick to shut him down. Despite that, he didn’t give up.
“And satisfaction brought it back,” he retorted, the cheekiness in hie expression growing.
Yuu gave up, only letting out a sigh. “Nevermind… what’d you want to ask me so bad yesterday, anyway?”
Ace chuckled, happy that Yuu finally got straight to the point. He leaned back against the wall, crossing his arms comfortably.
“A lot of things, honestly,” he answered, his smirk turning more sly. “You’re a mystery that I want to figure out, you know. I still can’t believe that the heir is casually sneaking around the town like a normal person.”
“Well, better make it quick. I have an hour, tops.” Yuu pursed their lips. They could only stay so long—after all they bribed their personal maid to distract their parents for this.
Ace whistled lowly at your limited time, a look of slight mischief on his face.
“Ooh, limited time. What a time crunch. Let’s see…” he mumbled, scratching his chin in exaggeraged thought. Then a sly smirk appeared on his face, an idea suddenly coming to mind.
“Alright, your highness… I got a good question but it might make you a tad uncomfortable,” he mused, his smirk widening at the thought of making Yuu squirm.
“...get on with it,” Yuu muttered, both unimpressed and impatiently.
Ace tilted his head a bit, enjoying the look on your face. “Fine,” he began, dramatically building up the suspense.
“Can royals date commoners?”
Yuu was appalled, their eyes widening slightly. “...you’re serious?”
“Of course I’m serious. Got a problem with that, your highness?”
Yuu thought for a moment, narrowing their eyes slightly in a train of thought. “Well…I guess? Depends how well I hide the relationship from my parents.”
Ace raised an eyebrow at their response, intrigued. He was fully expecting Yuu to shut him down, but now a new possibility was popping up in his mind.
“So you’re saying you’d be willing to date someone beneath you?”
“You’re thinking of the stereotypes.”
Ace let out a chuckle. He was surprised that one of the snooty royals actually didn’t have a stick up their ass and was pretty okay with dating a commoner.
“I guess you are right, I shouldn’t stereotype,” he hummed, his smirk turning sly once again. Especially if the heir isn’t actually a pompous stick in the mud."
“...wait is that what you think of all royals–?” Yuu’s eyes widened a bit.
Ace snorted and gave an eyeroll. “Most of the time, yeah. Don’t tell me I’m wrong,” he said flatly, not even trying to mask the disdain in his voice. He’s had plenty of experience with royal nobles that left a nasty taste in his mouth.
He casually leaned back against the wall once again, his expression a mix of annoyance and disinterest. “They’re all uptight assholes who think their status alone should be enough to get them whatever they want. I haven’t met a single one who I haven’t immediately wanted to throw a pie at.”
Yuu thought for a moment, raising an eyebrow at that last bit. “...you wanted to throw a pie at me?”
Ace barked out a laugh, the mental image of Yuu splattered with pie filling causing him to crack up a bit.
“At first, yeah,” he admitted, the grin on his face telling Yuu that he was completely serious. Before he could say more, however, he caught himself and composed himself a bit more.
“But, erm.. I don’t think I’ll do that now,” he went on, his tone a mix of sheepish and sly. He let out an inaudible breath of relief when Yuu’s expression softened and nodded slowly in acknowledgement.
Seeing your usually cool expression soften ever so slightly caused a slight flutter in his chest. He decided to press his luck a bit more, taking a small step closer to you.
“That’s not to say you’re completely off the hook, though. I still gotta make sure you aren’t just a pretty airhead.”
“Is…is that an insult?” Yuu narrowed their eyes, letting out an inaudible huff.
Ace let out a small laugh at Yuu’s immediate defensiveness at his words. He casually stuffed his hands in his pockets, enjoying the interaction. “Relax, your highness, it’s more of a tease. Can’t have you turn out to just be another pampered airhead who doesn’t know how to speak their mind, can I?”
Yuu blinked twice, unamused. “If I speak my mind, that’ll get me grounded.”
Ace snorted and rolled his eyes, not surprised that Yuu had to walk on eggshells around their parents. “What, your parents don’t like you having opinions? How stuck up.”
“...That wasn’t a joke.”
Ace raised an eyebrow Yuu’s deadpan tone. The fact that Yuu wasn’t kidding made him let out an incredulous scoff. “Are you serious? You’re scared to share your opinions because daddy dearest would punish you?” he asked, his tone a mixture of skepticism and disbelief.
“Well, yeah… I want to eat dinner.”
Ace’s eyes widened a bit at Yuu’s casual response. It was baffling to him that starvation was normal to them, and they didn’t even see the problem with it.
“What, they withhold food from you if you speak your mind? I hope you’re joking because that’s ridiculous.”
Yuu stayed silent at that.
Ace’s eyes widened at their silence. He started down at Yuu for a moment, his face a mix of horror and sympathy. He couldn’t fathom how Yuu’s parents would go to such lengths to control them.
“They seriously do that? They withhold your food from you as punishment?” he asked again, his tone soft and disbelieving.
Uncomfortable, Yuu bit their lip and let out a sigh, glancing up at the sun setting. They needed to go back to their quarters—they knew their maid wouldn’t be able to distract their parents much longer. “Look, just…nevermind that…please, just drop it and I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Ace frowned, frustrated that Yuu was trying to brush off what their parents were doing to them. But, he knew pushing them would result in Yuu refusing to meet him again.
“...Fine..,” he reluctantly obliged, letting out a sigh before continuing, “and you promise you’ll show up tomorrow?”
“I showed up today, didn’t I?”
Ace chuckled, small smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. “Good point. But hey, you never know. You might decide tomorrow that you want to stay in bed and be a lazy heir.”
Yuu only sighed, shaking their head in denial.They turned away, giving a small wave before fully walking off.
Ace watched them walk away, his smirk gradually shifting into a small smile. He waved back to Yuu, his gaze lingering on their form for a moment before they were out of sight. “Until tomorrow, then, your highness.”
-------------------------
(a/n: the first bit is Ace’s POV and the next bit in italic is Yuu’s — if you don’t want to read both, you can pick either one)
That night, as Ace lied awake in bed, his thoughts continued to wander. However, this time it wasn’t thoughts of pranks or shenanigans. It was thoughts of Yuu. He let out a small sigh, running a hand over his face in irritation.
He rolled onto his side, trying to get comfortable. It didn’t help one bit—Yuu just kept popping in and out of his head.
“Don’t you have any dignity?” He berated himself, groaning aloud. “Falling for a royal… what is wrong with you?”
Despite his own protests, his own brain wouldn’t stop its train of thought. The image of Yuu wouldn’t go away, and if anything, their face became more clear as time passed.
He let out a frustrated sigh, admitting defeat. He was already falling for them, whether he wanted to or not.
He closed his eyes, a small sigh escaping him as his thoughts finally cleared up, allowing him to succumb himself to sleep.
Yuu walked back towards the castle, sighing softly as they tried to ignore the nagging feeling in their stomach. They’d been having secret ‘escapades’ like this for the past month, and although it was thrilling, it made them feel guilty about it.
Their parents had no idea what their child was doing, and if they found out… Yuu didn’t want to imagine the consequences, but they had a pretty good idea that in the end they’d make them pick freedom or being disowned and thrown onto the streets.
After climbing back up onto their balcony and into their room. Just as they got settled in they heard their mother’s voice from further down the hall. “Yuu? Is that you?”
Yuu froze in their tracks, a wave of anxiety washing over them. They quickly turned to look in the direction of their mother’s voice. “Y-yes mother, it’s me,” they managed to stutter out, their heart rate already picking up a bit.
Yuu’s mother stepped into view a small, skepitical frown on her face. She looked Yuu over, scanning her for any obvious signs of anything suspicious. “Where have you been?”
Yuu gulped silently, their mind scrambling to come up with an excuse. Though, they’ve gotten good at white lies. “I’m sorry for staying out so late, mother, I lost track of time at the orphanage.”
Yuu had told their parents that they’d been volunteering at an orphanage, taking care of the children. Their parents only approved in the first place because it made the royal family look good. It was true, staying there for an hour before exploring the town—that bit, their parents didn’t know about. Guess they didn’t need to bribe the maid in the first place.
Yuu’s mother raised an eyebrow at their answer, her frown softening. She’d been skeptical about Yuu’s frequent visits to the orphanage, but at least her child seemed to be behaving. “I suppose that’s alright… you certainly seem invested in your volunteer work.”
Her tone was a little less suspicious, though there was a hint of sternness. “But you should be more mindful of the time and come straight back to the castle when you’re done.”
“You’re right, mother. I’ll be more mindful of the time next time,” Yuu said, trying to keep their voice steady and innocent-sounding. Thank god it worked.
Yuu’s mother studied her for a moment longer, before nodding in satisfaction. “Very well, I expect you to be more responsible in the future,” she said sternly, before walking off.
With their mother gone, Yuu quickly slipped into their room and closed the door, leaning against it for a moment to let out a sigh of relief. They were glad that her mom had believed their white lie, but they couldn’t shake the feeling of unease. Lying to their parents like that made them feel uneasy, even if it was to keep their secret meetings with Ace.
Yuu made their way to their bed and sat down on the edge of it, their mind still swirling with thoughts. They knew meeting up with Ace like this was a risk, and the more they did it, the greater the chances of their parents finding out. But on the other end of the spectrum, they couldn’t bring themself to stop. There was something about the secret meetings with Ace made them feel… alive, for a lack of a better word.
Sighing, Yuu fell back onto their bed, staring up at the ceiling as they tried to calm their racing thoughts. Tomorrow they’d see Ace again, and the thought of it made their heart skip a beat. Though, they knew they had to be careful and not let their get their emotions get the best of them.
With that in mind, Yuu took a a deep breath and forced themself to relax. They closed their eyes and tried to push away the worries and anxiety, drifting into a restless sleep.
-------------------------
As the days turn into weeks, the secret meetings between Yuu and Ace continued on a daily basis. Each day, both of them would meet up in the usual spot, spending the rest of the afternoon together, talking, playing games, and occasionally doing a bit of magic on Ace’s end.
Yuu found that as time went on, they felt less and less guilty about sneaking off to see him. They started looking forward to the meetings more and more, soon enough to the point where they couldn’t imagine the day without spending time with him.
Ace, for his part, couldn’t help but feel a bit of thrill every time he met up with Yuu. Seeing them smile and laugh and hearing them talk about their day—it made him feel a sense of satisfaction he’d never felt before. As their bond grew stronger, Ace found himself looking forward to each new day, knowing he’d get to see Yuu again.
However, despite the growing affection between the two, they were both aware that their relationship wasn’t exactly ideal. Yuu was the next heir to the thrown and Ace was a “lowly” commoner. If their secret meetings were discovered, the consequences would be dire.
Yuu found themself growing more attached to Ace with each passing day. His carefree attitude and mischievous nature just felt refreshing, almost addictive compared to the rigidness of royal life. Their secret meetings were a sweet drug to them, making them feel in control of their own life for once. Yuu shook off the looming cloud of their inevitable separation, trying not to think about it and enjoy it while it lasted.
-----------------------------
Ace tried his best to hide a bouquet behind his back as Yuu glanced at him, but he couldn’t completely conceal the nervous energy he felt. He gave them a small, sheepish smile, his heart thudding in his chest as he tried to summon up the courage to give Yuu the bouquet.
“Uh.. hey there, your highness,” trying his best to act casual. He glanced at Yuu, trying to gauge their reaction as discreetly as possible, waiting for the perfect moment to reveal his little gift.
Yuu caught a glimpse of Ace’s furtive glances, and they could see the slight tension in his body. They found it a little adorable, how he tried to play it cool while obviously hiding something behind his back.
Curiosity piqued, they feigned ignorance, looking up at him with an innocent smile, silently encouraging him to reveal the surprise.
Ace gave a small nervous chuckle, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He could tell Yuu was feigning ignorance, but he played along, maintaining his casual demeanor as he slowly brought the bouquet around to the front, revealing the colorful, yet modest looking flowers.
“Oh, this?” he asked, trying to appear nonchalant. “Just something I picked up along the way.” He held the bouquet out to Yuu, waiting for their reaction.
Yuu’s eyes widened slightly as Ace revealed the bouquet, their breath hitching in their throat. They hadn’t expected something so sweet and thoughtful from him. They couldn’t help the small, genuine smile that spread across their face as they looked up at him.
Ace.. you didn’t have to…they’re beautiful,” Yuu murmured, their hand brushing against his as they took the flowers from him, gently holding it to their chest.
A feeling of relief washed over Ace as he saw the smile on Yuu’s face, a mixture of happiness and pride swelling in his chest. He’d been worried that the gesture might come across as too cheesy or cliche or over-the-top—seeing Yuu genuinely pleased made his heart beat a bit faster.
He gave a small chuckle, trying to play it cool as he spoke up. “Glad you like them. I saw them and immediately thought of you.”
Yuu’s heart fluttered at his words, a warm feeling spreading through their chest. They knew that Ace’s carefree nature often concealed his more thoughtful side, and moments like these showed them just how much he cared.
They sniffed the flowers, a small smile still on their lips, and looked up at him again. “They smell wonderful too,” they murmured, continuing to hold the bouquet against their chest.
Ace’s gaze softened as he watched Yuu hold the bouquet to their chest, admiring the small, bashful smile on their face. It was moments like these that he longed for, seeing Yuu so content and visibly happy.
A grin tugged at the corners of his lips as he spoke up again. “You know, they’re not the only thing that smells nice around here…”
Yuu looked up at him in confusion for a moment before it dawned on them what he meant, her cheeks growing warm almost immediately. They blushed furiously, their heart rate picking up a bit as they tried to come up with a witty response to match his tease. But all Yuu could do was manage a flustered stammer.
“Y-you…you’re ridiculous, you know that…?” Yuu managed to stutter out, their grip on the bouquet tightening slightly.
Ace chuckled heartily at their reaction, clearly pleased with how flustered he’d made them. He took a step closer to Yuu, still wearing a mischievous smile. “And here I thought I was being romantic,” he chided with a teasing tone, his gaze never leaning Yuu’s. He had always enjoyed getting a rise off of them, and seeing them so caught off guard was definitely satisfying.
Yuu rolled their eyes, trying to regain their composure despite the rapid thumping of their heart. They knew he loved seeing themself flustered, and it took all their willpower to not give him the satisfaction.
Yuu gave him a small pout, still holding onto the bouquet against their chest. “You weren’t being romantic, you were being a smart-ass,” they huffed, their cheeks still tinged pink.
Ace feigned mock offense, a hand flying to his chest in a dramatic gesture. “You wound me, your highness,” he said with an exaggerated gasp, his grin widening as he saw Yuu’s pout. “I’ll have you know I’m being very romantic. I got you flowers, after all,” he teased, gesturing to the bouquet in their arms.
Yuu huffed again, their cheeks still warm from his earlier comment. “Just because you got me flowers doesn’t mean you’re Aphrodite,” they hummed, trying seem annoyed but failing miserably.
They glanced down at the bouquet, a small fond smile tugging at the corner of their lips. Despite their teasing, Yuu couldn’t deny that his gesture was touching, and that he’d clearly put some thought and effort into it.
He took another step closer, his smile softening slightly as he spoke. “Oh come on, give it a rest. You know you love it when I’m being romantic.”
He reached out to gently brush a loose strand of hair behind their ear, his touch gentle and affectionate. Yuu’s heart fluttered as Ace’s hand brushed their hair aside, his touch sending a jolt of electricity through their body.
“W-well, I…guess I do owe you appreciation for the flowers..” Yuu murmured shyly, their face feeling warm from his touch and comments.
Ace’s smile widened as Yuu hesitantly admitted that they enjoyed his gesture. He chuckled, moving his hand from their ear to rest atop their head, giving their hair a gentle ruffle.
“Damn right, you do,” he replied with a teasing tone.
Yuu tried, unsuccessfully to swat his hand away as he ruffled their hair, wrinkling their nose at his playful tone.
However despite their “annoyance”, there was a small, fond smile on their face. Yuu loved the playful banter between the two of them, knowing that Ace was only like this because he knew Yuu secretly enjoyed it.
“Okay, fine. You got me.” Yuu smiled, their heart pounding in their chest as they stepped forward, planting a small, quick yet tender kiss onto his cheek. “...thanks for the flowers, Ace.”
Ace’s eyes widened slightly in suprise. He recovered quickly though, a sly smile creeping onto his lips as he wrapped an arm around their waist, pulling them closer.
“See, was that so hard?” he said with a cheeky laugh and grin.
Yuu rolled their eyes again, but this time there was no heat behind it. Instead, Yuu found themself leaning into his touch, their annoyance giving way to a small, fond smile.
“No, but you’re still insufferable,” Yuu chided, the playful barb carrying no weight.
Ace pulled them even closer, closing the gap between Yuu and him so that their bodies were practically touching.
He tilted his head slightly, his voice low and playful as he spoke again. “Nahhh, you love it. You love everything about me, and even my insufferable-ness.”
Yuu tried to come up with a witty retort, but all that came out was a soft, flustered stammer. They cursed internally, and took a moment to gather themself before speaking up again. “You’re so fully of yourself,” Yuu managed to blurt out, their voice slightly shaking.
Ace leaned in, his voice low and teasing as he spoke into Yuus ear. “Yeah, but you love it. You know you do.” He was loving this, knowing Yuu was so flustered all because of him. He pressed a small affectionate kiss to her temple.
Ace felt Yuu relax against him, their guard finally dropping as they allowed themself to get caught up in the moment. He could feel their heart racing, and the way they practically melted into him was incredibly satisfying.
He nuzzled his face into the crook of their neck, inhaling Yuu’s scent. It was sweet and floral, like a mix of roses and lilies. He murmured Yuu’s name softly, the word barely a whisper against their skin. He pulled away slightly for a moment, before leaning in slowly, his lips capturing Yuu’s into a tender kiss.
“Was it really Casual?” - Azul Ashengrotto x reader
Since childhood, you had always been unsure about romantic relationships - tending to avoid them at all; you didn’t know how to feel when people often confessed to you. Unfortunately, you were always a magnet for things you didn’t want, weren’t you? Which led you to the ultimate form of trouble itself, the calculating and dealmaking Dorm Head of Octavinelle, Azul Ashengrotto.
Or rather
In which, Azul falls in love with you, and you don’t know what to think or do.
Author’s Note: I’ve been writing too much fluff in both my drafts and blogs, so this is a nice refresher. Once again, I am open to requests! I really need something to motivate me to write more, so a couple would be nice! I wrote this within an hour so please don’t have that high of a standard for this! I consider this a drabble since it’s only 1600+ words, so please do enjoy!
Content Warnings: Angst, Reader and Azul being in a situationship, and Reader’s gender being ambiguous! Both Azul and reader are childhood friends and both of them are toxic in some way, but they’re toxic together! Azul is an unreliable narrator, and lastly, this fic is left with an ambiguous ending.
-
Azul had been in love with you for a long time. And that was an understatement; the feelings he had, had boiled, marinated, and developed for years. It took him so much time to realize the fact that he had been in love with you that he didn’t even know when his feelings started to develop. He wondered when it first sparked to life: was it when you took to exploring the sunken ships under the sea with him? Or was it when he first arrived on land, and for the first time, you gazed at the stars and looked at him so adoringly that it was almost sickening. He didn’t know, but all he knew is that he couldn’t bear to hide it from you anymore. It had took him years to accept it, and another year to gain the confidence to confess to you.
He didn’t know exactly what went wrong when he did confess; the plan was perfect, he’d woo you and charm you till you fell for him, that was if you didn’t fall for him like he did for you in the first place. He calculated his odds and although he wasn’t sure of it - he took the risk.
So, why was your answer like this?
You stood across him, the lounge empty from the private dinner you just had. Your eyes looked off to the side, refusing to look at him - this wasn’t the worst scenario he had expected, but it wasn’t the best. Little did he know that he’d see that your answer was the worst one he could’ve ever expected - not because of the answer itself, but the outcome that he would see through due to it.
“…I don’t know.”
What do you mean by that? You didn’t know? Were you in love with him or were you not? When was there ever a middle-ground? Perhaps, you were still in the stage of discerning, and to him, that was okay. He would help you discern your feelings for him, and he’d make sure it’d be all right for both him and you.
For a while, he was silent, before smiling at you. The same smile he’d use on his clients, and you clearly saw that. There was clear tension in the room as he hid the unsure hurt he felt, because then again, based on your answer - he did have a chance to convince you that both you and him were perfect for each other.
“I see.” His eyes stared at yours, whilst yours looked down to the ground, anywhere else. You looked like you wanted to be anywhere else in the world, and for some reason, his hurt began to ache with a pain, similar to the pain he felt when he loathed himself for getting these feelings in the first place, and by extension: you.
He kept the same business-like smile on his face, taking a deep breath before speaking once more, “Are you unsure? If so, then at least give me a chance to convince you that I’m good for you, or that you have feelings for me.” His hands clenched tightly underneath the table, something to still his heart from the pain he felt.
And for a few moments more, silence was present within the room - it was eventually broken by you giving him a nod and one word:
“Okay.”
And so began the hell that you put through him to, starting with your answer.
-
From that point on, he had done everything in his power to have you make the decision to love him: from showering you with gifts, to offering to do everything for you, and everything in a typical romance novel - he had done it. And each time, you had accepted it with a smile, almost like your answer and tune had changed regarding your answer to his confession. He took it as a positive.
But each time he had tried to bring it up, you looked uncomfortable and shied away from the subject as a whole - you instead tried to change or deflect the topic. And not wanting to lose his chances, he foolishly let you do it, always complying with what you wanted regarding the subject. If you didn’t want to talk about it, then he wouldn’t force you to.
However, with months of this development, it drove him insane. You did everything he wanted you to do to him - you smiled at him adoringly, took his courting gifts, and made it clear to the world that both of you were meant for each other - so why were you so annoyingly persistent about not bringing up the topic of defining what you were? When he asked, you - you looked uncomfortable and proceeded to say that you just weren’t ‘ready’.
He understood, it took him years to come to terms with his feelings. However, you couldn’t do this to him, not when he had already waited for months, years if you count when he didn’t recognize his feelings and one more year for when he did. It was hell. And for how rare it was for him to feel helpless in life, he felt so helpless to you - only you could end his suffering and you could do that by just doing something, anything.
He didn’t know what to do with you anymore, really.
-
The moon and stars looked so beautiful, but it couldn’t compare to you - you looked especially radiant as you laid down on the grass beside him. You had invited him to stargaze for one night, and he had taken you up on your offer. He couldn’t understand how beautiful you were; he was sure God existed, because if he didn’t - why wouldn’t he have given you to him? You were both his blessing and curse to bear - your existence and friendship was a blessing, whilst his unaccepted feelings for you were a torturous curse, he was sure that God had planted for his greed and all he had done to deserve this.
But it didn’t matter if God existed or not, because either way - he would have you do something to end his pain.
“…Sometimes, I imagine myself in your arms, dancing with you and laughing with you. And at times, I think that I want you to be the first thing I see when I wake up, and the last thing I see when I fall deep into my slumber within your arms.”
You had always said things like this to him since childhood, always things that made his heart race and when he was a child - he didn’t know what the feeling was, but now he knew. And this time, his feelings were laced with bitterness and hurt.
“Then, why don’t we make it official? We can do all of that, if you want. Just…say yes to me.”
Immediately, he could tell you were uncomfortable, but before your mouth opened to change the topic like you always did - he interrupted you, “And don’t tell me some nonsense about you not being ready, I’ve been courting you for months - doing the best I can to make you see reason. But you won’t see it.” His fists were clenched as he stared at you eye-to-eye.
A breeze rolled onto both of you as silence permeated the environment, the only noise coming from the woods that were filled with peaceful creatures, harmless ones unlike yourself. Finally, you met his eyes and after a while of hard staring, once more, you had one more answer.
“I know. I know I’ve been leading you on, but I can’t- I’m just not ready for a relationship-“
Azul immediately interrupted you with his own response, “Then reject me. Reject me and be done with it. Do something about it. Don’t lead me on and toy with me like I’m something to be stringed along and played with it. I don’t understand why you couldn’t have just done it.”
You didn’t know what to answer to that, and so silence took your words once more. Azul knew that it was just two options and you had to choose, or else everything be damned - he would never look at your face once more. Despite the pain and hurt he had endured, he still wanted you to choose; he wanted you to choose him.
But with the way you looked so unsure, he already knew your answer.
“I like you. There I said it. But, I-I just don’t know if I’m ready for a relationship. Please, just give me more time.” Words fell off your tongue like venom disguised as pleasure; it hurt so damn much, and most of all: he felt so angry. He felt angry with you and himself. You couldn’t decide if you loved him, and him? He let you walk all over him and his feelings. Why the hell were you leading him on? He couldn’t fathom how you felt about him, it was two options to him: either love him or reject him. If you wouldn’t choose, he would force you too.
“It sure didn’t seem like it when you accepted all my courting gifts and said all the things you loved about me. Why are you doing this to me?” His heart hurt so much as he proceeded to say this, but he wasn’t willing to back down. You, on the other hand, went silent - not able to defend your actions nor say anything.
“…I don’t know.”
“Choose. Right now. Or leave this forest and in turn, leave me.”
And so you chose. The choice wasn’t easy, but either way Azul was satisfied with either.
“Where’s the trophy? They just come running to me” - in which you, a popular ace in NRC’s basketball team, is tricked into a deal involving your servitude to the esteemed Dorm Head of Octavinelle, Azul Ashengrotto
Or rather
The rather long blurb that the author wanted to write due brainrot, added with a short drabble
Author’s Note: This was supposed to be an attempt at writing headcanons, but unfortunately, I realized it looked too much like a oneshot. Aside from that, I would really appreciate any requests in my inbox for me to write! I’ll be able to write almost anything except anything that violates my rules! Please do request, I’d be very appreciative! I usually write about 1k-5k words so if you specify the word count, I’ll do just that!
Content Warnings: A bit of hatred on the reader’s part in the first part due to Azul tricking them into a deal. Both Reader and Azul are emotionally constipated. Reader is gender-neutral and is not Yuu. However, reader is implied to be quite brutish and strong physically - also slightly mean on their part. But to be fair, aren’t almost all NRC students mean?
-
At an early point in his life, Azul had decided that he had hated anything remotely athletic; if anything involved running, flying, and exerting effort into one’s body, he resigned himself to a more moody disposition. That’s why it was so ironic that he ended up coming to love someone who loved athletics and took to every sport, almost like their body was adapted to flying, running, and tackling - it was astounding how talented you were in sports. But there was one sport that he knew you had come to love the most: basketball.
You loved the teamwork, the strategy, and the physical exertion that took for you to run, jump, and shoot; it was exhilarating and for a time - he knew that it was the top priority in your life to stay on NRC’s prestigious team. That was until you met him, and at that point in time, it had been a gradual and slow descent into your relationship.
At first, he had thought you like one of those Savannaclaw brutes who took everything to the physical level, and well, you did. You tended to get physical with people who offended who you treasured, which meant your friends within the school. Despite your popularity, you had an infamous reputation for your opponents ending up in the school clinic with scars and bruises - you on the other hand, came out unscathed usually, sometimes with a bruise or two if your opponents were lucky.
However, unlike the students in Savannaclaw, you were surprisingly decent with your grades and student activity - it was more of your record that was a flaw, but that was overshadowed by your wins and your position as ace in the basketball team, winning over RSA as well, granting you popularity and favorable treatment by students who were either intimidated or respected you. Azul, however, thought you would be a valuable asset to carry out his bidding - influencing students to support his business or get students who were being unruly with their contracts to be on line. And really, all he needed to do was loop you into a deal.
And so he did, he took the opportunity to loop you into a deal, doing a deal with your friend first to trap them into servitude- service! The moment you heard about the incident, you came to threaten Azul with the intention of beating the ever living lights of him; however, this action came with Jade and Floyd standing behind him, looking at you menacingly - you could take at least one of them, but both of them? You would end up in the infirmary injured if you took both of them on. It was a losing battle, and so you listened to Azul’s proposition instead. Even though you were struggling not to punch the lights out of him.
The result was a frustrated yet resigned you, signing the contract that Azul offered - making you one of his lackeys, if you not being able to beat him up didn’t hurt your pride - then that did. From there, your relationship was quite rocky, you worked for him and some of things that your contract forced you to do were: to ‘gently’ remind (threaten) students who didn’t comply with their contracts or Azul’s demands, work in the Mostro Lounge for your fans to come there (you were basically free advertisement), and use your influence to promote Azul’s business. You were basically a lackey, and to make matters worse: sometimes, you were used as an errand runner. At those moments, you were tempted to just smash his head against the wall when he set you up for simple tasks.
Begrudgingly, you basically obeyed his commands and became someone he usually handed over tasks, even using your face and games to advertise you and himself to the general public. Now, to put it short how you felt with him - imagine a dartboard with his face plastered on a picture stapled on it, then imagine there being multiple darts thrown mid-air, landing perfectly on his face. That was how you felt about him. You wouldn’t say you hated him. No, that was rather too light - you despised him.
As a result of being in servitude to him, you were basically stuck around him for quite a lot of time. Your usual location if people wanted to find you was always in Octavinelle (if it wasn’t the gym or basketball court) and even then - Azul capitalized your time and appearance by requiring people to pay if they wanted to stay and chat with you. And due to being stuck with him, you repaid his ‘generosity’ ten-fold by proceeding to constantly banter and annoy him.
It was hell. Hell was in the form of one person and it was you. Azul tried his best to focus on working, but eventually he snapped back with insults as well; most of your time together was in the form of snarky comments and banter that took insults almost personal. Eventually, both of your insults lessened as you got to know each other better since you stayed by his side most of the time - however, it still didn’t change the despise you had for him. And this didn’t change for a while. Until the result of his breakdown and overblot.
Originally, when you saw the breakdown - you were supposed to say a snarky comment and insult him, thinking he got what he deserved. And well, he did - he successfully enslaved a majority of the student population and tried to involve the Prefect of Ramshackle into his schemes, but failed due to intervention. You were happy that he got what he deserved, and most of all: you were free. Free of the chains he had cast on you since the contract.
But when you saw him breakdown, something hurt inside you. You didn’t know why too, and as a result you ended up freezing as you saw tears coming out of his eyes. He had never displayed any type of genuine emotion, this was the only time that you had seen a genuine and vulnerable display from him. You didn’t interfere as he wailed in pain of losing everything he had worked for. Maybe in other worlds and timelines, you’d have been kinder, more patient, considerate - but in this one, you weren’t. You were selfish, brutish, and you had the capability to be cruel at times - you were the perfect example of an NRC student.
But maybe, you could be just somewhat kinder in this school, because clearly, most of these students couldn’t be. And for once, you didn’t make a selfish decision: you took off running and casting spells to eliminate the entity behind him. Putting your all, you fought alongside the students, despite almost getting injured many times. When all was said and done, and when he was defeated - you didn’t freeze this time. You took off running once more to his body, and quickly checked all his vital signs - and once the Head Master came, you took off to the infirmary and from there everything was a stressed blur.
Azul woke up with you beside him, sleeping on a chair - there were flowers on his bedside in the infirmary and there was only one question on his mind when you woke up: why were you here after everything he had done to you.
And with all honesty, you responded with the answer that you’ve been wondering yourself for all this time: you didn’t know. The clinic was white, everything smelled like alcohol and sterilized materials, and you two were the only people present there - both of you stared at each other with unknown emotions brewing within both of your eyes. Multiple conversations ensued and by the end of it, both of you were confused and unsure. It was a moment that both of you would never forget, as later in the future you would be thankful that this moment happened in the first place.
From there on out, despite your contract being eliminated, you took to staying by Azul’s side - albeit with general denial if you were asked and confusion of the public as well as your admirers and fans. Azul, himself, was confused with his development and at some point, asked what you wanted from him. Which you replied with the same answer that you answered with in the infirmary: you didn’t know.
Initially, you came to the conclusion that it was most likely a habit out of the time you had served under him. But that didn’t really explain your behavior; it didn’t explain why you stayed by his side like a guard dog and defended his name, both physically and verbally, when people bad-mouthed him. And somehow, you were almost…seemingly gentle with him.
Both you and Azul were baffled by your behavior, it was something that both of you wondered and analyzed, separately. Despite your unusual behavior though, he refused to let go of you, since you were the only one who ‘served’ under him since the dissolution of his contracts by the Dorm Head of Savannaclaw.
For some time, there was an awkward tension between the both of you; it was palpable to everyone that the both of you were in a sort of awkward stage. You didn’t know why you were defending and staying with Azul, while Azul wondered the same thing too. The awkwardness didn’t dissolve until the both of you settled into a routine with one rule, which was to never bring up why exactly in the first place you were still serving him without your contract.
The both of you got to know each other, despite your tense relationship - and through the routine, you took to staying in Azul’s office more - making sure to take care of him when he was overworking and generally trying to make life easier for him. And somehow, you ended up having a sort of complicated ‘relationship’ with him. With the both of you spending most of your time together, but denying any sort of relationship with each other, with Azul stating that he was paying you whilst you were saying that you just took an interest in him.
Rumors spread through the student body, and at first, you were okay with it. Until people began asking and you, yourself, was coming to a realization: you didn’t know what you felt for him at all. It wasn’t exactly a working relationship or a relationship at all. It was a secret third thing. Out of pressure and tension, you broke down - stopping your visits to him and avoiding him at all costs. To Azul, it provided its own realization, a slow realization that descended into hell for him. It was like Dante’s Inferno, except with the stages of grief - eventually going into acceptance that he felt something for you.
He was going to confront you. Eventually. The only problem was that you were avoiding at every turn, using either your fans, speed, and everything that was a force to be reckoned against to avoid him. When he realized, he couldn’t exactly confront you with the way you were using everything in your power to hide from his sight. It was only through Jade and Floyd catching you and threatening you, then proceeding to drag you to Azul’s office is when both of you were able to talk.
From there, it was a conversation between two emotionally constipated and repressed people that had never talked vulnerably in their life. It was one of the hardest conversations you had in your life, but at the end of it - you were trembling as you hugged him. You weren’t exactly dating yet, more in the middle ground.
But from then on, you stayed by his side most of the time and invited him to every one of your games. And through a lot of communication and painful slow burn, you eventually entered into a relationship.
That was why it wasn’t unusual for you to see him at one of the VIP spots in all your games, events, and sometimes, he’d even be seen at practices - handing you a small towel with a snarky comment on the tip of his lips because even after all this time, both of you had never stopped bantering.
It was well-known that you were devoted to him, and that was seen in every event, but it was established in one particular event which were the championships ending with two schools facing against each other: NRC and RSA.
-
The stadium roared with cheers as you landed the last point that would score you one point over RSA, it was a close play and you had thrown the ball in at a far length. The moment you did, you didn’t go running to your teammates, you didn’t run to your coach, nor did you run to your friends who were cheering you on from a podium. You didn’t freeze either; you were sweating and your ears rang with the victory you had scored - the big smile on your face was palpable. Despite your feet racing on the ground, you didn’t run to any of the people just mentioned. Instead, your eyes zoomed in into one face in the crowd: one face that you had your eye on the entire time you were playing and whenever there was a break.
You ran to Azul. You ran quickly with the biggest grin on your face, and when you reached him - you hugged him while murmuring repeatedly three words that echoed in your own little world.
“I love you.”
It was the only thing you repeated as you cupped his face, looking at him with pure adoration and devotion; you didn’t even notice how red he was and how the cameras were zooming onto you - the stadium screen focused on the both of you. And with the repitition of the three words, you did one last thing that staked your claim on him and the establishment of your love to the world. You kissed him.
The entire stadium roared, but really - you couldn’t care less. All you knew is that he was the constant in your life that you’d make sure stayed with you for as you lived. And you knew Azul thought the same thing as he cupped your cheek and planted a soft kiss on your lips once more.
A short drabble entailing your confession to Azul.
Author’s Note: This is just a drabble that I wanted to practice my writing on. Regardless, I hope whoever reads this enjoys it! Words: 600+
Your eyes were akin to the moon and stars above; it wasn’t the color that reminded them of you, but rather how each one looked as enchanting as yours. You were reminiscent of a shipwreck that he had always taken solace in his childhood and most of all: you were the reminder that he had someone in his life that treasured him, the same way he treasured you back. In every way, words cannot describe you; if he tried painting how he felt for you on a canvas, it would be filled to every crevice with every color possible, because somehow - everything leads him to thinking back to you.
When you had confessed to him, he felt his heart beating out of his chest akin to a drum; he felt his blood actively run through his veins to support his heart - he felt every response of his body to your words of admiration and love. It was the way you stared at him, a soft smile on your face and words easily rolling off your tongue. Just how did you do that? How do you say such things without stuttering or running off? If it were him, he couldn’t have taken it.
Silence was often his best friend, the lack of noise in his office was frequent company - but as of the current? He had grown to hate it in the matter of seconds. It was the fact that he was so silent after everything you had said, even as he tried to will his mouth open and speak every single rushing thought that came to his mind: he could only say one word.
”Why?”
Your only response was a chuckle, accompanied with a smile and one answer, “I’ve grown to love you throughout our time together; I must say to you that my heart does not beat at a fast pace as it normally should when one loves another. Rather, it beats slowly at the thought of you. If I’m to be honest, my life is a fast-paced race that I advance at a strenuous speed, it’s dangerous and for my time in this world and my own - I haven’t been able to slow it down.”
You look at him like he had hung the moon and stars, and created everything just for you and yet, it was the exact opposite of the words that were coming out of your mouth, it was painting the most exquisite picture on how you exactly felt for him.
“But with you? My heart and mind does not race with stressing thoughts, instead I slow down. I didn’t slow down at first, but gradually it slowed down effortlessly around you. I find my days get slower when you’re around, and I find that those are the days I treasure the most. I find myself seeking you out, and making unconscious accommodations to you in my life. You’ve unknowingly made yourself a space in my life.”
Taking a pause, you further your words, “Love to me is the sea where you grew up in, to me it is the pulse of your heart, it’s the look in your eyes whenever you feel joy - love to me is the definition of you.”
And at your words alone, he is rendered speechless - he wants to return your words, say something of the same caliber of effortless prose and affection and yet he is unable to. He feels his lip trembling to say something, and yet - he can’t. All he is able to manage are his lips curving into a smile with what he is sure is the softest look that he is unconsciously mustering.
And he could tell with the wide smile you were presenting to him that this was all you needed to see.
Courting Azul Ashengrotto: A short concept (and a result of brainrot)
Intro: In which you propose to court Azul right after your confession, and surprisingly, you succeed in this endeavor.
Author’s Note: Hi! This is my first time posting on tumblr and despite this being just a short blurb, I would appreciate feedback and constructive criticism! I based this concept off traditional Filipino courting methods, but the reader’s race is ambiguous.
Courtship is a delicate process that has two meanings: to win the favor and affection of someone who you’ve chosen to solely dedicate yourself to or the process of putting in the effort to win someone’s romantic favor with the intention to marry them. Now, in this case, it would obviously be the former - considering you and Azul were still teenagers. But who said, you weren’t aiming for the latter as well?
The moment you proposed the idea of courtship to Azul; it became a fairly pleasant surprise to you - seeing his face turn completely red with his hand held up to his mouth in surprise and taking a step back. He looked so faint, especially right after the confession,
Initially, he was hesitant - considering he wanted to take the role of spoiling you first like what he’d done a good amount of times within your friendship, he had not made it obvious of course or lest he risk the discovery of his feelings for you back then. But now? He was at free reign to do as he pleased after listening to your heartfelt confession. Weirdly enough, it felt as romantic as an engagement proposal, with you preparing an entire well-worded speech to deliver the most romantic words he’d ever heard in his life - uncomparable to even the ones the most talented script writers and actors had given.
The moment you had proposed the idea, words of disagreement were on the tip of his tongue until he saw the determined, longing, and absolutely charming look in your eyes. Effectively, that immediately shut him up, because of course, you only had the capability to do that.
And so with a meek nod, he had agreed, unable to resist you entirely. At that moment, he had not known the consequences of agreeing to your actions.
To put it short, it was nothing but being showered with affection at least once a day. Despite not having as much money as him, you always found a way to give him flowers once a day or every other day. He suspects that someone had given you access to the botanical gardens because not only were the flowers always fresh, but you always sorted them and left a handwritten note on why you picked them and the meanings of each arrangement.
Everyday was a surprise for him: from flowers, handwritten love notes (regardless of your handwriting), and gifts ranging from different varieties like trinkets and additions to his collection of coins. He could see the amount of effort you were putting into courting him.
It was an endless amount of affection that was a testament to your deep feelings for him; it was the fact you worked so hard in doing odd jobs and put in effort to every gift and each thing you presented to him with the most smitten smile on your face, like you were the one receiving a gift instead of him.
It left him speechless and always deep in thought about you; he often thought about many things: the mostro lounge, the amount of work that needs to be done, but most of all: he thought about you the most. It was no deception or lie that he was the happiest when with you - practically anyone could see the genuine smile on his face or flustered expression when you showed up, spent time with him, or gave him one of your courting gifts once more.
Even Azul could see that you were smitten with him, and that was something that was impressive. He was no stranger to insecurity and self-deprecating thoughts: it haunted him and made him think he was incapable or not worthy of you - but whenever you looked at him like he hung both the moon and stars just for you, his heart couldn’t help but just melt at the sight.
The most memorable experience of his in fact, was you serenading him with a traditional courting song from your culture - you ended up inviting him to Ramshackle late at night, when the fireflies were out, telling him to go to the balcony in the letter. At first, he was initially confused when you weren’t there, but when the soft sounds of a guitar started playing accompany with a sweet serenade of your voice from below - he immediately looked down to see Ace, Deuce, and you - you were singing with a guitar in your hands, strumming the strings to a soft beat whilst singing a tune that practically sang of charm and romance. Ace, on the other hand was carrying a sign that said, ‘Please accept my feelings’ - and Deuce was carrying another guitar that followed different yet similar beats to yours.
It was one of the many moments that Azul realized his feelings ran deep into his veins and with each beat of his heart. By the time you had finished singing and serenading him, he was a mess of emotions that were all positive in every sense. And when you went up to the Balcony to meet him, after telling Ace and Deuce to give both of you space - that was the first time you had kissed him, despite it only being on the forehead.
It was a magical moment that had been engraved in his head, something he’d never forget
However, it wasn’t only the fact that you put in effort into the traditional courting gifts and methods; it was the fact that you made the effort to recognize the feelings he felt at times when he was overwhelmed or when he felt anything akin to a negative emotion; you always took the initiative to comfort him and do the best you could to make him feel better, whether it be aiding him with words of comfort or giving him space he needed, you always tried your best to help him with his emotions. It was clear you cared for him so much and if the gifts didn’t communicate that; then it was every moment you held his hand, and did your best in each situation to do as much as you could for him.
It didn’t matter if you were merely giving him a trinket or surprising him with a bouquet of flowers right after class and walking him down proudly down the halls; he was smitten with you in every action you did and everything that showed you…ever so remarkable and sweet you. He may not be sure of the future to come, but all he knew is that he wanted you in every path that would alternate from his decisions. He would take you hand in hand in every twist and turn, and when time is right, he’ll take you as his forevermore.
You can’t blame him if he never lets go of you; his greed is unmatched and he could never bear to have you out of his reach when you were the one who provoked feelings that no one on this earth had ever awoken. Do take responsibility, won’t you?
And although you were courting him first, you wouldn’t mind if you took your hand off the reins and let him take over, right? After all, rewarding you for the amount of effort you showed in order to prove that you loved him would only be the only viable option in this situation. So sit down, and let him spoil you with flowers, dinner dates, love letters, and more - just as you’d initially have done.
