4. What type of discipline was your character subjected to at home? Strict? Lenient?

The Tyrells weren’t exactly strict parents, but Soren knew that if he ever broke one of his parent’s more serious rules (ie: taking one of the gym’s pokemon for personal use was very very bad) he knew he would be paying for it for a long while. So he did his best to keep himself in line. 

5. Were they overprotected as a child? Sheltered?

Again, I wouldn’t say he was sheltered or overprotected, but he definitely didn’t branch out as much as he should have. That’s why he wishes to travel so much now that he has grown up. There’s so many questions he has. Basically he’s a curious sort of fellow. 

6. Did they feel rejection or affection as a child?

Soren is an only child. Meaning that his mother absolutely adored him, and his father molded him into someone that could be his pride and joy. Most definitely affection. Sometimes a little suffocating, but definitely appreciated.

12. How does their education and intelligence – or lack thereof - reflect in their speech pattern, vocabulary, and pronunciations?

Soren has the equivalent to a high school degree, and that much is obvious. He’s rather clever, and fairly smart, but it’s nothing exceptional. He talks like an eighteen year old boy, though he tries to stay away from curse words and things like slurs. He finds them to be unattractive and below him. 

20. What were the most deeply impressive political or social, national or international, events that they experienced?

When Soren was a child, he got to witness his father battle in the Pokemon World Tournament. He doesn’t remember much, but he was there and that’s impressive in itself. 

35. Do they always rationalize errors? How do they accept disasters and failures?

To put it lightly: he doesn’t take failure well. Especially his failure. He tends to beat himself up about it, and let it fester for days on end to eat him alive.

He struggles to hold the now riled up Pachirisu against him. “No. My team is completely satisfied with how they’re taken care of and what they do. It’s hard not to get caught in the cross fire when you deal exclusively with electric types.” 

“Well, obviously, pokemon would attack their trainer if they’re not pleased with them? That should be common knowledge.”

Soren immediately pulled the pachirisu into his arms and held her tightly. “Excuse me?” 

“Oh, well. I’m sorry your pokemon have to deal with such an idiotic trainer, then.”

It sounded easy enough when the other put it like that. Taking a week off could satisfy his needs well enough in order to explore the other regions. But that’s all it was. It was something easy enough to state, but to put into action was near impossible. Scratching behind Gracie’s ears, Soren sighed. 

“You said you’re a trainer, right?” He began, glancing up at him. “Imagine you’re traveling across Sinnoh, okay. You’ve traveled through all of the other cities. And you’re crossing through Snowpoint and battling their gym leader, and she finally gives you the snow badge or whatever it’s called.” Soren sighed, looking up at the sun for a moment, before turning his attention back.

“And Sunyshore is next. The final gym of Sinnoh. My gym. Where I spend most of my time. You battle all of the trainers before you’re supposed to face me. But you can’t. You’ve gone all this way, only to find out that there’s no gym leader for Sunyshore for the next few days.” 

“You’re right when you say it wouldn’t hurt me. But it would hurt my gym, and my family, and the trainers that come from across all the regions in order to battle our Elite Four. And you can’t because one of the leader’s decided to take a vacation conveniently at the same time as you come to the city.”

“It’s fine,” the pink-haired trainer reassured, reaching for the menu propped up on the table. “I don’t mind eating alone, but company is always welcome.”

Scanning the various beverages and pastries written down on the small laminated sheet, Avery bit his lower lip gently in thought as he considered his options, only looking up when the other began to talk once again. The idea of being cooped up in a gym all day waiting for challengers sounded rather draining in his mind, noticeable by the slight grimace that appeared on his features before he quickly replaced it with a more charming smile.

“I can’t say I agree. My parents were reluctant to let me leave, especially to pursue battling as an actual trainer, but I stood my ground.” More accurately, he kept leaving his home for hours on end to train anyway, until his parents got tired of holding him back from leaving the city. “But, I’m sure a weeks vacation to get some sight-seeing done couldn’t hurt you?”

He feels the slight shock from the Pachirisu on his shoulder. “I didn’t choose for this to happen.” 

“Ah.” 

“Well, perhaps you should’ve chosen a better career option, then.”

“But out of curiousity,” Soren glances up at the Pachirsu on his head. “What are you going to put them in?” 

“Noted”

Avery couldn’t help but chuckle as the Gym Leader sat opposite him, not even waiting for an answer. Luckily, the photographer was always welcoming of new company. Especially those who appeared to be so keen as to hear about his own travels. If it was stories Soren wanted, he had a lot to tell.

“Mmh.” Simply nodding his head, Avery leaned an elbow on the table before him, propping up his chin in his palm as the other simply rested on the wooden surface, fingers idly playing with the fabric of his sweater. “I’ve been traveling for the past few years now. If you’d like to hear more, I’d be glad to share, though in that case, you might as well join me for lunch?”

Soren reached up to his hair, pulling his pokemon down into his lap and gave his new companion a nod. Scratching the Pachirisu’s head, Soren gazed at the other male. It was always nice to listen to someone else’s stories. Plus, it seemed like Avery was more than willing to tell him about his travels.

“I don’t mean to intrude.” He began rather sheepishly. He should have really been cautious of his manners before he just sat and welcomed himself at the table. “It’s just that we’d love to travel to the other regions - it’s just kind of hard to leave Sinnoh when you run a gym.” Soren paused for a moment. “Hearing about different places from a traveler is good enough, yeah?” He offered with a grin.
