YOURâE TOO LATE, I ALREADY DIED â CHO HYUN-JU

synopsis: the first time you laid your eyes on hyun-ju, you were entranced from the get-go. everything about her had drawn your interest, you had loved her more than anything in your life. so, when you had woken up to find her gone, your entire world collapsed.
authors note: i cant stop writing angst yall please help.
âHey, stop!â You laughed, waving your hand out to stop the batter from coating your face. The kitchen smelt of burning pancakes and scrambled eggs, orange hue shining through the blinds.
The woman in front of you looking more beautiful than ever. Baggy shirt that hung off her shoulder covering the grey shorts she was sporting underneath.
The sunrise glowed on her skin like nothing youâve ever seen before. In that moment, she was the definition of ethereal.
Domestic life was always one you dreamed of, your childhood growing up was filled with lost memories, instability, loneliness, and lots of sorrow.
You always wanted to find the right one, the one that communicated effectively, made time, loved you right, in ways youâve never been before. As you grew older, and all your friends married off, living happilyâyou were beginning to grow hopeless.
Until, you met her.
Cho Hyun-ju.
It was as if time had stopped, from that moment on you knew she was the one. Her slick black hair tied into a low ponytail, silver earrings on display and winged liner complimenting her brown doe eyes.
You couldnât help but approach.
âHi.â You breathed out, a smile growing on your features as you made eye contact with the tall woman before you. Her hands settled in front of her chest, crossing over each other in a meerkat-like pose.
âHello, did you need something?â She asked, voice gentle, shy. Shifting on both feet, you tucked a piece of fallen hair behind your ear.
âSorry if I sound too blunt but I couldnât help but think you were absolutely gorgeous. God, that sounds creepy, iâm so sorry.â
She couldnât help but look around in bewilderment, as if the compliment was foreign to her. âMe?â
âYes, you silly!â You laughed, eyes closing as your teeth were shown on full display.
Hyun-ju stared down at you, blush coating her cheeks and heart warming up. You spent the rest of that afternoon getting to know each other.
You always relived that day.
It wasnât long into the relationship that Hyun-ju opened up about her struggles, her family and friends cutting her off, debt racking up from her procedures with no way to fund them. She was lost.
Whenever she told you, she expected you to get up and walk away but you had done the complete opposite. Instead, your hand covered hers and lightly squeezed, offering as much comfort as you could in that moment. âItâs okay, iâll be here with you every step of the way. Youâre not alone.â
You thought you had offered her the best chance at stability, with your job promoting you and her soon moving into your apartment once your relationship had gotten more serious, you assumed everything had been okay.
You didnât know that she was offered a chance at making money to pay off her debts as well as enough to move you and her out to Thailand like she had dreamed.
You didnât question it when she had woken you up on an early Sunday morning to make breakfast and had the whole living room set up for an in-door date. Flowers, candy, rom-com movies waiting to be chosen.
By the time you were snuggled against her, whispering sweet nothings in her ear and letting the comfort in the air rest over the both of youâher black painted nails were fiddling with a business card that sat in her shorts pocket.
When you had awoken the next morning, your body was lost of its warmth. Hyun-juâs side of the bed completely made, pillows fluffed and the stuffed meerkat gifted by you sat gently on the sheets.
The only thing that she left in her presence was a neatly placed post-it note on your bedside table.
Iâm going to make us a better life, iâll be back in a week. Pack your bags then. I love you <3
What you didnât feel that morning was her placing a gentle kiss on your forehead, thoughts of being free and in paradise in Thailand. Living the life you both deserved.
The note had confused you to no end, but you trusted her to know that she was making a good decision for herself, for the both of you. You had gone about your days as normal, even though the absence of your girlfriend lingered in the air.
By the 6th day, right before the week endedâyou had packed your bags. Your belongings sitting in a travel suitcase with her own luggage placed neatly in the walk way of your shared apartment.
The knock at your door had startled you, first one youâve heard ever since Hyun-ju had left. Heart beating, you raced to the door in a hurry. The week you lived without her was long, missing her scent, her voice, her.
The grin that ate away at your face slowly vanished when she wasnât on the other side.
Instead of seeing the woman you longed for, a small box was placed on your door mat. Black with a pink ribbon wrapped around itâbending down, your fingers took a hold of the object.
Carefully inspecting it, your curiosity got the best of you.
âHyun-juâŚâ Your voice trailed off, eyes immediately filling with tears. With shaky hands you cradled the box close to your heart.
Her silver earrings laid inside.

EGO â CHOI SU-BONG

synopsis: you were the only person who was able to kill thanosâs ego, reducing him down back to the su-bong he really was.
content warnings: drug use, mentions of drug addiction
You knew Su-bong ever since you were children, your parents being close to one another which resulted in you being forced to play with the boy who couldnât stop trying to pull on your hair.
Unfortunately, from then on you both were attached to the hip ever since.
You were with him when he first wanted to become a rapper by the name of Thanos, you told him you would never call him that in all your years of living. You stood by his side whenever he started doing drugs, when he would stop by your apartment all drowsy one day and absolutely unhinged another.
He was your closest friend, and someone you deeply cared for. You had tried to convince him to quit drugs or even lay off them a little, but no matter what you had to say he would not give them up.
So you told him whenever he had a bad trip, to come directly to you. At least he listened to that.
You were like Su-bongs manager of sorts, being around for his rap battle tournaments, accompanying him to clubs and even managed the business aspect of his socials.
He owed you his life, without you, he probably wouldâve been dead in a ditch.
âIâm not calling you that, Su-bong.â Your deadpan tone made him groan loudly, head falling back to rest on his neck. Freshly dyed purple hair staining his ears and finger tips, which you helped him do in the small bathroom of your home.
âBut mamacita, câmon! I need people to know iâm the Thanos, the big deal! I canât have no one speaking about my real identity.â He waved his arms above his head, his persistence on the name every time drove you insane. You hated the Thanos persona he made for himself, hated what he gotten himself into.
âNo, Su-bong. Letâs go, youâre annoying me.â Sighing, you couldnât help but let a small chuckle escape as he threw an arm around your shoulder. Rainbow painted nails gripping your arm as he chattered endlessly in your ear.
Club Pentagon was one you frequently visited with Su-bong, the drugs and alcohol supplied to him by a club promoter who also happened to be a fan of his music. It made you groan out in protests every time you saw them doing lines or downing the endless free drinks every five minutes. They never cared to stop though.
But it was better than leaving him unsupervised with no one to be there for him if things got too chaotic.
The bright lights and music blasting greeted your senses, figures dancing and others simply lounging around. You were left to your own devices as Su-bong sauntered off in search of the club promoter he hung around with every time.
Finding a booth to sit in, you waited for the purple haired rapper as he mingled himself into the crowd. You werenât one to drink, or smoke, so all you had to go off of when you attended clubs was pure vibes.
About ten minutes had passed when Su-bong finally remembered who he came with when he found you sitting all alone. He couldnât help but be relieved that no one had the chance to make themselves comfortable with you yet.
âHey, my favorite seĂąorita! I brought some guests to keep us company.â He applauded himself, patting Gyeong-su on the back as he sat down beside you.
âHello, Gyeong-su.â You greeted, him nodding back as he settled across from you. The club promoter that always hung around the group was also there. This was the first time you really got a good look at him, he wasnât bad looking.
âThis is Nam-su.â Su-bong pointed, dumping a bag of white powder on the table that he had stuffed in his pocket.
âNam-gyu.â He corrected, giving you a tight lipped smile as he ended up touching shoulders with Gyeong-su as he took his seat.
âAh, so youâre the one supplying Su-bong with all the drugs?â
âSu-bong? Thatâs your name?â Nam-gyu asked, completely ignoring your question to look at the man in question.
From beside you, he groaned in irritation looking at you with an annoyed expression. âWhat did I tell you? Call me Thanos in public setting.â
âNo.â
âFine!â His dramatic demeanor never failed to make you roll your eyes, yet the small smile that escaped every time was too hard to keep down.
An hour had passed and from the various white lines, multi-colored pills and shot glasses ingested by the group around you that slowly grew, you had decided it was an appropriate time to wrap the night up.
The more substances Su-bong took, the more crazed he became. His loud rapping attracted the attention of several club-goers, as well as his chaotic nature in general.
But with that came his more sluggish behavior, where his words slurred and he slowly stopped making anymore sense than he usually did.
That was at the point of the night you were at.
âI think itâs time we head out now. See you later, guys.â Despite the protests around you, you just waved them off with a polite smile as you threw Su-bongâs arm over your shoulder.
âLemme help.â Nam-gyu offered, going to lift Su-bong from your hold so you didnât get trampled by his body walking out the club. âYou drive a car here?â
âYeah, Su-bongâs.â Fetching the key from his pocket, the man protested as he tried to grab the item from your hands only to be met with a slap to the wrist by you.
âYouâre so mean.â He grumbled, head falling so his chin met his chest.
âYeah? Well, someone has to be.â
Getting to the car was the easiest part, once Su-bong was strapped to the seat by Nam-gyuâthe hardest part was actually getting him back to your apartment.
The drive back was what you expected, handsy, chatty, it not being much different from his sober counterpart.
When you arrived at your complex, you couldnât help but sigh. The back of your head slamming against the car head rest as you looked at Su-bong. âHelp me out here, Su-bong.â
âAnything for you, seĂąorita.â He mumbled, arms limply heading to unbuckle his seatbelt. Doing the same, you headed out the car and went over to his side to let him out. Having child lock was important in these frequent occasions.
âSu-bong, shit!â You cursed, the man almost falling flat on his face as he attempted to get out. Wrestling his arms to rest on your shoulders, yours hugged his waist. Thankfully, your apartment was only on the second floor and also thankfully, there was an elevator.
Pressing the button when you entered, you had to stop the wasted man from slamming his fingers all over the numbers. Successfully making it to your floor, you were soon greeted by your apartment door.
âOkay, lay here while I find my keys.â You demanded, setting the rapper down on the right of the door. Fishing for your keys only took a couple seconds before you dug it into the lock.
Once you stared at the interior of your home, you looked down at the semi-unconscious body lying on the carpeted floor. You know you shouldnât have been contemplating on leaving him there, but the thought was too good to resist.
âYouâre lucky iâm such a good friend.â Whispering, you bent down to grab him. The first place you knew to take him to was the bathroom, always making sure to soak his face in water to sober him up a bit. It usually worked.
The cold water you splashed over his face dripped down, purple tones mixing as he managed to calm down slightly. The both of you slid down the bathroom wall, cold tile pressing against your legs as you let Su-bongâs dead weight lean against you.
âYouâre too good for me, mamacita. I love you so much.â Su-bong slurred, his head leaning against your arm as you patted his shoulder.
âAnytime, Su-bong.â

ANYONE ELSE BUT YOU â KANG DAE-HO

synopsis: kang dae-ho was a name that made your heart swell, even when you were a kid. he was a boy that protected you during school whenever you were getting picked on, you were there for him whenever his father gave him a hard time. you promised you would do anything to make sure he was able to experience a long and good life, away from his father, living happily with his sisters and you. one thing you made sure, you never turned back on a promise.
authors note: will forever mourn that we didnât get to see him in the finalist suit </3 my writing feels so repetitive in this so im sorry if it sucks LMAO
Music blared from the intercoms, startling the remaining players including Dae-ho, awake. You were the only one who couldnât sleep through the night, too worried wondering about the final game or even if someone was desperate enough to strangle you in your sleep.
âAttention, please. The final game will begin momentarily. Please follow the instructions from our staff.â You stood, Dae-ho mirroring your movement as he rubbed sleep from his eyes. His white long sleeve disheveled, matching his hair.
âLet me fix this.â Your arms outstretched to the top of his head, smoothing down the locks that stood unkept from bedrest. You could feel his gaze tracing your face, as if he was admiring it for the very last time.
By the time your eyes met, the guards began ushering you all to head towards the final game arena. The colorful stairs that led to it made you feel uneasy, remembering back to Jung-baeâs body hanging alongside other players and the blood coating its walls.
âAll players, please proceed to the elevator in front of you.â You and Dae-ho never left the others side, too cautious to separate from one another. The silence on the way up was crucifying, Min-su shaking helplessly next to you as the elevator lifted everyone to the start of the next death trial.
âA warm welcome to all of you for joining the final game.â The womenâs voice on the PA system echoed out, you felt Dae-hoâs grip on your hand give a squeeze as if he sensed your discomfort.
Heights had always made you anxious, you could feel the hairs on your arms stand as you looked out to see two towers lined up vertically ahead of the one you stood on.
âHere are the rules of the game. Players will play on the square, triangle and circle towers, you will play a pushing game on these three towers.â The womanâs robotic voice droned on, as you looked around you saw various guards standing on ledges of different heights.
Dae-ho looked at the men that surrounded your bodies, money hungry, death fearing individuals. He knew that he had to protect you from them, in case they decided to rally against you simply for being more vulnerable than them.
âPlease press the button on the ground to start the first round.â Hearing a mechanical sound from below you, a red button emerged from the ground, reaching a foot out, you gently pressed down. âThe game has started, you have fifteen minutes.â
Around you, the players started conversing. You didnât pay them any mind as you took a few steps to the corner of the tower and sat down. Your breath slowing as you stared out, attempting to calm yourself down.
Dae-ho following you, confusion written all over his face as he sat next to you. âWhatâs going on? Are you okay?â
âWe can only hope that they kill one another before they get to us. They seem emotional enough to turn on each other.â Dae-ho nodded , taking your hand in his as he stared at the group of men having an intervention in a tight circle.
What caught your eye was Min-su, his shaking figure walking towards the ledge as if he was looking at something. He looked down to the drop as if someone was calling to him.
âMin-su?â You called out, Dae-ho snapping his head to the scene as the boy in question started kicking at the air mindlessly in front of him. Standing up, you began to make your way over to him. âMin-su?â
He looked like he had seen a ghost whenever his eyes made contact with yours. A trembling hand reaching out to meet yours. âSe-mi?â
âNo, no. Se-miâs gone, Min-su. Itâs just us.â As you continued to approach him, he was stumbling more and more. You could guess the shock of seeing the dead girl he thought of as a friend caught up to him.
âDonât fall, Min-su.â You warned, your arms stretched out as if to catch him for when he did. The boy kept on muttering under his breath, from what you could tellâit was her name.
Looking down, you saw his foot shakily settle on the edge. The last thing you heard from him was her name as he stumbled back in awe of you, or of what wasnât you. Reaching a hand out frantically, you missed his grip entirely as he fell back.
Watching his body descend, you choked out a sob, looking back towards the group centered in the middle of the tower. âIâI didnât push him, he fell.â
The player that went by 203 smirked as he ran a hand through his hair, looking the most relieved out of the bunch. âWell, one player down. Did all the work for us, eh?â
âQuit it, asshole.â Dae-ho stepped up, his figure blocking yours from their view as they turned their attention to you. In coincidental timing, a ringing surrounded you.
âThe first round has ended.â The sound of metal scraping got your attentionâa bridge like structure sliding out from the towers side, connecting with the triangle shaped one in front.
âWe just walk across?â
âGuess so.â Myung-gi, player 333 responded, taking the first steps to cross.
Looking back at the pole centered in the middle, you walked towards itâgiving it a tug and pulling the now weapon into your arms. You werenât going to let any of these men think they could push you off especially if they were collectively voting on it.
The others had followed behind Myung-gi cautiously, with you and Dae-ho reaching the other side last.
Once the bridge emerged back inside the square tower, the group looked at you. Your hunched body balancing the steel pole, shiny tears staining your face. You couldnât help but blame yourself for the death of Min-su, you always liked him the most out of the group Thanos had formed. If only you had acted quicker, he probably still wouldâve been with you.
âOh, look. The girl thinks she can shove us off, how cute.â Player 203 taunted, the four men behind him excluding one chuckled nervously as they watch you point the weapon directly at them.
âShe definitely can, I will too.â Dae-ho threatened, walking towards them. Myung-gi took the second standing pole in one hand and looked at the group of men around him. âLetâs vote.â
âGood idea, all to eliminate the girl and her lover?â Player 203 announced, his hand raising above his head as the others followed suit.
Dae-ho cursed under his breath, standing slightly in front of you protectively. You saw Myung-gi emerge from behind them before quickly turning his back to you. Despite the others protests, he turned to look at the two of you.
âIâm on your side, I know you were close with Jun-Hee. She gave birth to my child.â At the mention of her name, you looked down at your black leather shoes. The woman sacrificing herself last game, you wish you were able to help but her sprained ankle and lack of wanting to be a burden led to her haunting suicide.
As you both stood, with poles outstretchedâDae-ho lifted his fists up. The four men took several steps back. Even though they outnumbered you, you still had a slight advantage.
The first to run towards you was the leader, going straight for Dae-ho as they started throwing punches and wrestling each other to the edge.
The next was 353, charging towards Myung-gi. Unfortunately, his determination was no use as he swung the pillar in contact with the mans body, which resulted in him trying to take a hold of it. His body dangling over the tower as Myung-gi tried to pull the item back.
You could see the sweat in his hands start to betray him and with a final shove, 353 was eliminated.
Directing your attention to Dae-ho, he had a firm hold on the man under him. Player 203âs head dangling off the edge with Dae-hoâs hands gripping his neck. You could see him grow tired, slowly losing his strength.
Doing the only thing you could, you ripped Dae-ho off the mans body, quickly jutting the pole to slam down on Player 203âs head. His body falling slack as he fell backwards.
Turning your attention to 036, he looked around helplessly as he held his hands up in defeat. Dae-ho held an arm out to stop you from taking any steps closer. âWait, we could use him for the next round. So none of us have to fall.â
It was unlike him to wish death on someone, but in his mind he would sacrifice anyone to make sure the both of you got out together.
âGood idea.â Staring the man down, you struck the pole down on his leg. The snap making you grimace as you watched him fall to the floor with a scream. Your attention finally being brought to the last man standing.
As Player 100 was standing helplessly in the corner, watching as the chaos ensued in front of him. Myung-gi, now giving him the spotlight, held his rod out to him.
The old man pleaded. âHey, letâs think about this. We can all split it, I only owe ten billion won, you guys can have the rest.â
âWeâll get 15.2 billion each, with you gone.â Myung-gi threatened, shoving the pole against his chest. The blood curdling scream left in his presence as he fell made you flinch slightly.
The clock chimed, signifying the end of the round. As you all stood, you heard shufflingâyou all turned to see player 036 dragging himself to the edge of the tower.
âNo.â You whispered, with him gone that meant one of you was going to have to fall next round. You couldnât bear that happening. At least not at the risk of Dae-ho doing so.
His eyes looked at all three of you. âIâm sorry but I donât want to be your sacrifice.â
Myung-gi shook his head, hands raised up as if to show peace. âWait, calm down! Thatâs not what weâre thinking, right? So just stay where you are. Letâs talk.â
âYou can talk to each other, iâm out.â Despite everyoneâs pleas, he leaned backâletting his body take him to his permanent resting place.
âNo!â You all shouted in unison, you watched as Myung-giâs body threw itself at the manâhoping to grab on to whatever he could but it was to no avail.
The silence was raw, heaviness hung in the air as the three of you were left standing. Once Myung-gi stood back up, the three of you looked at one another. The beam you held now aimed at him.
âYou go first.â You declared, pushing the pole to point at the bridge that extended to the other side. As he trudged backwards, giving quick glances behind as to not tripâyou followed him, with Dae-ho steadying himself right behind you.
In frantic movement, he hurriedly pulled the steel stick out the ground and pointed it back at the both of you. Jutting it out as a warning to stay back. His eyes flickered between you and Dae-ho, showing no remorse. You knew he wouldâve had no problem pushing the both of you if his life was on the line. You couldnât blame him.
Myung-gi stared at the pole in your hands before looking at Dae-ho, you could see the gears churning in his head as to what to do next. In a quick rush, he sprinted towards him.
Letting out a shout, you darted. Pushing his body away as he neared Dae-ho with the makeshift weapon. The clank of it hit the ground as your bodies collided.
As you wrestled each other, he was able to get on topâhis body straddling your legs. Your hands tried to grip on his locks but his strength overpowered yours, his hands making their way around your neck. Even though it was only for a few seconds, the burn in your throat made it feel like forever.
Seeing Myung-gi come to an abrupt halt, his eyes rolled to the back of his head as he collapsed beside you. Dae-ho stood before you, pole clutched in his hand and a murderous expression painting his face.
âIâll push him.â He insisted, coming closer to you with the point of the beam poking the still body of Myung-gi. Blood pouring out from the wound, yet chest still rising. You shifted your gaze to the side as you heard his body take a hard thump off the tower.
Dae-hoâs hand took a hold of your cheek as he examined the redness on your neck. Your own going to rest on his shoulder. You couldnât help but admire his features, his hair falling just right and sweat making his face glisten. It wasnât until his eyes snapped to yours that you were pulled out of your trance.
âThe button, we didnât push it.â Dae-ho realized, turning your head to stare at the button sitting untouched on the floor. Your blood ran cold, Myung-giâs death didnât count.
Your eyes darted around, you could feel the tears beginning to flow back up again. Choking back a cough from the scratch in your throat, you looked at the abandoned rod. There was only one thing you could do at that point.
In a swift motion, you grabbed the steel stick beside Dae-ho and stumbled backwardsâaway from him. Your foot stepping on the button as you stood on opposite ends of one another.
âWhat are you doing?â Dae-ho asked, pure confusion written on his face as his eyes darted from your eyes to the item that sat trembling in your hands.
âDo you remember the day I promised you, that no matter what I had to do that I would pull every string to make sure you had the life you deserve? Do you remember that?â
âYou promised me that six years ago, that doesnât matter now. I donât want to live a life without you.â He pleaded, eyes shimmering with tearsâwet streaks cascading down to meet his chin. Strands of hair falling over his eyes as the hair tie was long gone.
You gripped the pole tighter, hands shaking as you shoved it further in front of you. âYou know I always keep my promises, Dae-ho.â
âPlease, donât do this. We can find a way, we can go back home. Together. What about Sora? My sisters canât clean her litter forever.â His hands came to lay flat together, as if praying for you not to make any dumb decisions.
âTake care of her for me, please.â You begged, feet shuffling closer to the edge of the large pillar. You could see his eyes follow it, his jaw growing stiff as his teeth gridded together.
You let out a grunt as you waved the pole away from his prying hands when he began to step closer, balancing your weight to stand up right. âStop! Let me do this. Donât make this harder than it has to be.â
âI wonât be able to live my life without you, youâre my best friend, jagi. I love you.â
âI love you too, tiger.â You whispered, a small smile gracing your features as your right foot braced the edge. Letting it kick off your weight, it was as if your body moved in slow motion. The bar falling from your hands as you saw Dae-ho scream out to you. His body running to meet yours with a hand outstretched to grab you.
You could feel your fingers brush against his, his grip getting to you just mere seconds too late. You knew the last thing you wanted to see before you died was his face, so you let your eyes stay open to rest on him. The man you called your best friend, your everything, your person.
In pure anguish, his body hunched over the edge watching as you fell to the hard sandy ground. Even when your vision blackened and your soul shattered, Dae-ho remained in the same position.
While you were falling, a large piece of his heart fell with you. Your resting body lying over a pool of blood, even in death, he still found you absolutely beautiful.
âGame over.â

You stood next to Dae-ho, blue vests wrapped around your chests as the guard started to explain the rules. Hide and Seek.
The blue team was tasked with hiding from the red players or find the exit and escape, whilst the latter had to eliminate them within the specified time frame.
It made you nervous, not for yourself but the boy trembling beside you. You already knew what he was thinking, that he would die if he didnât switch his team. Hearing his breath quicken rapidly, you turned to him.
âHey, itâs gonna be okay. We can find someone to switch with you.â Placing a hand on his arm, Dae-ho looked at you. His lips quivering and a cold sweat beginning to form on his forehead.
âNo, no for both of us. Iâll find someone.â He tried to reassure but his frantic glances behind you told you the truth. He was afraid, he knew Gi-hun wanted to kill him. He knew it was his fault, it haunted him. If he wasnât a coward, maybe the rebellion wouldâve worked.
As he was searching frantically for two red vests, you looked around in search of anyone willing as well. You could see the red team carefully cradling the knives in their hands like a life-line. They seemed very adamant on not switching, knowing of their advantages.
At this point you were getting restless watching Dae-ho desperately attempt to reason with the other players like his life depended on itâwhich it did but you knew it was no use.
Monitoring, you saw him make his way over to Gi-hun. Cursing under your breath, you shook your head in exasperation. âHey! Hey, Dae-ho!â
Ignoring your calls, he stood in front of the older man. You couldnât make out his words over your own desperate calls, it wasnât until he started yelling that you gripped him by the shoulder. âDae-ho, stop!â
âNo! Itâs his fault, his stupid plan!â You never saw him like this before, so angry, so upset at what was brought onto him. Still gripping him, you turned him towards youâaway from Gi-hun and away from the guard who stood close with his gun aimed.
Positioning your hands over his cheeks, you directed his eyes to meet yours. âLook at me, weâll be okay. Donât worry about him, we just gotta stick together and find the exit.â
At that point, the alert that the game was about to start chimed around you. The blue team being directed to enter the arena first, looking at the boy who you now devoted yourself to protect, you squeezed his hand in yours.
âI love you, weâll make it out.â Dae-ho nodded, his eyes downcasted yet hand still holding onto yours.
âI love you too.â
The inside hadnât been what you expected, it almost made you feel at ease with the current circumstances. Luminescent yellow stars painted on a blue night sky, it was pretty. Ironically soft for a game like this.
A hand gripped onto Dae-hos, your other one tracing the string that held the key around your neck. You knew you had to hide before Gi-hun caught up, you couldnât bear the thought of knowing what would happen if he did.
As the team decided to split up and find the exit, you and Dae-ho stared at one another. In his eyes there was fear, but in yoursâthere was determination. You were going to protect him, like he did you ever since you met.
You werenât scared of death, eternal peace and nothingnessâit sounded much better than the hell you were currently in. You just didnât want to see Dae-ho go through that fate, even if it means it was without you.
âLetâs go.â You whispered, pulling him through the maze as you hurriedly checked every door you stumbled upon. You were sure that the taggers already arrived by the sounds of frantic rush and shouts.
Dae-ho was becoming more distressed, deep down he knew what was to come. His desperate attempts at finding a door was growing more and more hysteric. As you followed him, your feet halted as you saw a door.
âThereâs one.â You breathed out, your hand ripping the necklace off your head as you sprinted towards it. Jamming the key into the hole, you cursed. It wasnât the right one.
Snapping your head to Dae-ho, you gestured to his key. âI need your key, mine doesnât fit.â
âI got it.â He scooted himself closer beside you as he slammed his into the lock. Once it turned, you breathed out a sigh of relief until you saw the other side. Nothing.
The drop down made you abruptly pause, arm reaching out to stop Dae-ho from taking anymore steps closer. Hearing a shaky breath escape him, you looked at him. His gaze on something from above.
Gi-hun.
Once you saw him, you gritted your teeth together. There was no way you were letting him get his hands on Dae-ho. His murderous glare made you recoil for a moment, youâve never seen him like that before. You looked up to the older man, but now he was someone you couldnât trust.
âLets go.â You said, tugging Dae-ho behind you. The amount of running was starting to burn your lungs, your legs slowly starting to ache and mouth drying up.
Avoiding the red team was becoming more and more difficult as the blue team was being eliminated off rapidly. As you both turned a corner, you made eye contact with a red player.
âFuck.â You cursed, turning around and pushing Dae-ho to sprint faster. The sound of rapid footsteps made you panic as you turned every corner. Soon enough, there was a door waiting to be opened.
Dae-ho slammed himself against it in a hurry, pushing his key into the lock before placing a hand behind your back and shoving you through the door. The unfortunate flight of stairs slowed you both down, the player managing to catch up and slash at Dae-hoâs leg.
Hearing him scream you turned back, placing yourself in front of him and pushing the player back aggressively to the bottom. Before this, you couldnât think of killing anyone. Life was precious to you, but in defense of the person you loveâyou could justify it.
As he fell down, the knife flew out of his hand and onto the concrete floor. Blade separating itself from the handle.
The only way you knew you were going to survive was if you took the knife, so that was what you did. Running down the stairs to take a hold of the sharp blade, you stared at it. Blood coating its shiny metal.
Now with the injury of Dae-ho, you had to be extra cautious.
Climbing back up the stairs, you grabbed him by the vest and gently pulled him down. His arm stretched around your shoulder as he grunted out curses.
âItâs gonna be okay, we can find a place for you to rest.â Your reassurance fell on deaf ears, as you looked around in hopes of finding a doorâDae-ho separated himself from you.
âGo, we canât find the exit if youâre dragging me along.â He grunted, staring at you with a pained expression. Sweat glistening his skin, it was wrong of you to think he looked beautiful in that moment but your mind couldnât help itself.
You could only scoff with an aggressive head shake. âDonât say that, we can find it together.â
He shook his head back in protest, ripping the key off his neck and placing it in your hand. âIâll hide in a room, when you find it, come get me.â
Staring at his trembling hand in yours, you nodded in defeat. He was right, there was no way you could find the exit with his injury. Looking into his eyes, the firm contact was sincere. âYou promise youâll be okay?â
His frantic nod made you sigh, fishing for the blade in your pocket you held it out to him. âTo protect yourself, iâll be back. Go into the nearest unlocked door, go.â
Taking a couple steps back, you watched as Dae-ho gazed at you. His eyes holding fear yet they still showed adoration for you. Giving him a quick nod, he darted off with you eventually doing the same.
It didnât take long to find another key, the dead bodies scattered grew more common. In your hand held the three shaped keys, your only task nowâto find the exit.
Your lungs burned, yet brushing it off was fairly easy when you had someone waiting for you. Flashes of Dae-ho appearing in your head, his smile, his charming voice and big personality. It was enough to make you want to live, for him.
Surviving the games, money or not, with him was all you could dream of.
As you struggled to juggle the keys, you managed to fish the right one for the locked door in front of you. Pushing it open, you exhaled shakily. Above the large door inside read âExit.â Your heart pounded rapidly inside your chest.
âYes! Yes, goddamn it, yes!â You couldnât help but cheer, running out the room and heading in the direction you came from. After some corners and halls, you had no luck in finding the boy. Cursing to yourself, you ran around frantically in search of him. He couldnât have gone far, not with his leg.
You skidded along a sharp turn, keys dangling from your hand. It was then you made a sudden halt, breath stopping. The sound of the keys hitting the hard floor echoed. Dae-ho, your love, your reason to keep on going, lying on the groundâmotionless.
A loud sob escaped your throat, hands trembling in front of you as you kneeled beside him, knees slamming down. His eyes were wide open, blood dripping from his mouth, yet even then, you still found him beautiful.
Cries echoed out from you, hands cradling his red paint splattered face. One of them going to sooth his hair down. âNo, please noâwake up, please.â
Despite your pleas, his glazed over eyes did not blink, his breath did not pick back up again, you were left with a lifeless body before you.
Out of the corner of your eye, you saw him. Gi-hun, sitting against the wall limp. You wouldâve thought he was just as gone if it werenât for the breathes moving his chest. âWhy? How could you? He was just scared!â
Using a knee to stand up, you loomed over the older mans still figure. âWhy! Tell me!â Gripping his vest desperately, you shook him. âLook at me! Be a man!â
Realizing he wasnât going to answer, you dropped your hold on him. Leaning forward, you sobbed uncontrollably. Hands entangling in your hair as you pulled at the roots. âI canâtâI canât do this, not without him.â
Lifting your head up, you noticed an abandoned knife beside the man. Shaky hands retrieving it, you huffed out. Before you stood up again, a hand wrapped around your wrist. Meeting his gaze, Gi-hun stared at you and shook his head slowly. His eyes dull and lifeless, regret written all over his face.
âI have too.â Your fingers plucked his off, continuing to stand, you let the knife fall to your side. The steps you took toward Dae-ho were shaky, unstable. The sight of his still body and grey colored face made your heart ache and eyes blur.
Settling down, you took one of his hands in yours. Your head falling into place beside him, eyes looking into his as you cradled his face and let it stare directly at yours. The blade you picked back up again rested on your chest, tip digging in.
âI canât wait to see you again.â You whispered, letting your vision fall dark as your hand gained more strength to push down. Gargle falling from your lips as your movements paused, limp hand dropping to rest at your side.
âPlayer 079 eliminated.â

YOU WERE BEAUTIFUL â CHO HYUN-JU

synopsis: hyun-ju thought that was it, her family and friends cutting her off, her job firing her, she had nothing. she didnât think she could make it in korea, not with the stares, the judgement. though, the barista in her favorite coffee shop made her feel different.
authors note: my baby did NOT deserve the ending she did, so im choosing to believe it never happened :)
Hyun-ju was a simple woman, needing her daily dose of caffeine to get her through the day. In her mind, it was probably even what helped her get up these days. The caffeine as well as the person behind making them.
The stores chime rang behind her, alerting her presence to the workers shuffling behind the counter and wiping the once occupied tables.
âHyun-ju! Welcome in!â A voice called out to her, the same voice she grew to adore hearing. The woman in question stood behind the cash register, waiting patiently as she walked up. âHow you doing this morning? Your usual?â
Hyun-ju chuckled, leaning her head down so her hair could cover the smile growing. âYes, please and iâm definitely going if thatâs a good enough answer.â
âWell itâs better than doing terribly, and coming right up!â Sending her a smile, you abandoned the register to go make the drink, her usual? An iced coffee with one cream and one sugar and a sweet message from you as a little pick me up. Her favorite part.
As you were finishing her order, you managed to squeeze in a couple glances at her without her knowledge. Her signature meerkat pose as she waited made you hold back a grin. It was one of the many traits you adored about her but with all the hints you gave her, you would expect her to know that by now, but unfortunately not.
âAlright, all done!â You announced, her distracted gaze focusing back on you as you slide the plastic cup over the counter. âWould you like a donut or croissant? On the house.â
She just laughed, shaking her head as a black nail polished hand waved you off. âThatâs okay.â
âNonsense, lemme go get you something to have with that coffee.â As you rummaged through the sweets displayed through the glass, Hyun-ju glanced at her cup. In black bold writing wrote âFor my favorite customer and personâ with a faded winky face possibly from her pinky rubbing against it.
Her eyes squinted at the message, feeling a warmth spread over her face. A small smile appearing as she saw you head towards her with a wrapped paper white bag. âAll for you, enjoy.â
âThanks, you really didnât have too.â She expressed, taking the bag from your handsâfingers grazing yours.
âAnything for my favorite customer, you look extra beautiful today by the way. Do anything different?â Closed fists facing down on the counter as your body leaned towards hers. Hyun-juâs eyes widened in surprise as she tucked a fallen piece of hair behind her ear.
âNothing different than usual.â
Shaking your head, a low whistle escaped your lips. âWow, I guess youâre just getting more pretty by the day then.â
She couldnât help but deny it. âThatâs not true.â
An insulting scoff made her brows shoot up in alarm. âAre you kidding? Youâre kidding right? Hyun-ju, youâre beautiful. I thought that when you first walked in here. Hell, when you told me you served in the military I thought it was so hot.â
âReally?â You could see her eyes start to water, a shaky smile decorate her features. Nodding frantically, you watched as she glanced down at her filled hands and laugh.
âI think youâre really beautiful too. Iâm just surprised you felt the same, given my situation.â You thanked god the shop was slow today, feeling yourself fall in deep with your conversation.
âYour situation has nothing to do with how I see you, I like you alongside it.â Hyun-ju was sure her cheeks would surely start aching with how bright her smile was. Her newfound confidence being brought to light.
âWould you maybe want to go out with me sometime? My treat, least I could do with how much free stuff youâve given me.â She offered, gesturing to the items in her hands.
âI would love that.â You smiled, glancing down at your apron pocket and fishing a pen, grabbing a napkin sheet out the dispenser beside you before bending down and scribbling various numbers.
Perking back up, you slide the paper in her left hand that was holding her pastry. âCall me whenever youâre free, iâll be looking forward to it.â
You sent her off with a wink, trotting off back to the register as she glanced down at the napkin. Her farewell consisting of a soft gaze and half smile as she left the coffee shop.
Hyun-ju, stuffing your number in her pocket, walked with more of a purpose than she previously did. Her thoughts flooded with you, alongside the excitement for possibility and the future. It gave her a bit of hope, that she wasnât alone after all, that someone saw her as she was deep down.
Maybe there was something in Korea that was worth staying for.
