Artist Statement
I use different colours and textures to provide a multi-sensory experience, I do this by adding sand/ grain to paint  when painting multi levels and mixed media of the sculptures to give the impression of natural materials , such as stones and pavements. I use natural materials too, which are foraged from woodland floors. I also use upcycled materials as my main skeletal formation for the Fairy homes , examples of this are plastic bottles and old toys, which prevent them going to a landfill and polluting the planet. I take my influence from ‘The Cottingley Fairies’ as the young girls left offerings for the Fairies by the means of Fairy homes, made from natural materials. I also take inspiration from the families that I have worked with at Festivals all over the UK.
I chose Fairy Homes and miniatures as I know this is something that brings magic to all ages and cultures around the world. I choose themes for the fairy homes by utilising what I have around the home and items that are donated that would of gone to the landfill. Plastics take hundreds of years to decompose causing a terrible plight to our environment, tiny fragments of plastics often go into rivers, causing problems to the wildlife and are harmful to all.
My Art gives an insight into a magical world of fairies and fairy tale, something that has been passed on from generation to generation, everyone can relate to this and tales of magical fairies living in the bottom of the garden Is something that keeps reoccurring, even today in our stories and legend’s.  I believe that in doing this artwork will inspire others to re-use and upcycle plastics, while encouraging belief in magic which we all need in this time of upheaval. My art brings back the innocence and magic to the world, while making viewers smile, brightening their days in the deary mundane world.
