Need a userbox that just says "This user is the #1 Child Protective Services hater" because dear god no one talks about the cases they drop the ball with that don't make the news.
Anyway fuck CPS. Especially with them treating kids as not traumatized for not being able to communicate trauma well at young ages like six.

Terrified to post about my job on here bc tumblr's complete lack of critical thinking skills will declare me as Problematic™️ for defending parents from CPS aka "joining the war on pedophiles on the side of pedophiles" HOWEVER I am going to say some things that are Controversial Yet Brave
Everyone is deserving of legal representation
It is my job to fight for my clients no matter how offensive their views or how much they suck
This is a GOOD THING because it means that YOU will get zealous representation even if your PD hates you
No matter how hard I try I will never get a child returned home to their pedophile father i'm not a fucking wizard
Do you know how hard it is to get a registered sex offender into housing that will let HIS children live with him but not any other children he's not allowed to be around????
This is, by the way, BAD.
Housing should be a human right
All humans
Yes, including people you personally believe are Bad
Perhaps this structure you have created in your head founded on the sheer hubris of you believing you personally are the true arbiter of moral purity and who deserves to be in society is what has contributed to mass incarceration in the first place?????
Fighting for the rights of the most unsympathetic people is how we guarantee rights for everyone

"I'll tell you when you're older..."
Do yourself a favor. Especially if you're in foster care and separated from your parents. If they ever break out with that line during a court-ordered visitation at your local CPS, realize that this is what is actually being said to you:
"I'm never going to tell you what really happened because that would require me to take responsibility for my actions that I'm doing my best to avoid."
And also...
"I was making choices that hurt you without your wellbeing ever once crossing my mind. You did not factor into my plans at all."
I waited for 29 years to be that mythological "older" person and still haven't been told why and I've agonized about it every single day of those years until I realized that there will not be a day (or an age) where my parents would take accountability for how they ruined my childhood. I want to save you the 29 years of suffering right now.
They weren't thinking about you. But other people you meet in life WILL. They'll make good choices with you actively in their mind. Those people are the ones you need to think and care about getting answers from.
And you won't even have to wait for it.

I hate cps workers so much. As a child there was 7 different times cps workers came to my house and literally refused to do their fucking jobs and actually protect me at all. And I just saw a tiktok where a bunch of cps workers in the comments were joking about like, how they don't really care about anything other than just making it to the weekend and not having to do too much paperwork. I knew children as a kid, friends of mine, who died from the abuse they faced. Cps had been to their homes to, and not done a single fucking thing. I nearly died several times. I live with crippling, and I do mean literally crippling complex-ptsd. My quality of life was destroyed completely. Still isn't what it could've been if a single fucking cps worker had actually cared about little abused kid me. It's just a fucking job to them. They don't understand the agony, the desperate wishing that someone would save you. Or maybe they just genuinely don't care.

“From the time I was 7 or 8 years old, we were the roughest knockabout act that ever was in the history of the theater, not only in the United States but all over Europe as well. We used to get arrested every other week--that is, the old man would get arrested. They raised my age two years, because the original law said that no child under 5 could even look at the audience, let alone do anything. So they said I was 7. And the law read that a child can't do acrobatics, can't walk a wire, can't juggle--a lot of those things--but there was nothing said in the law that you can't kick him in the face or throw him through a piece of scenery. On that technicality, we were allowed to work, although we'd get called into court every other week” Buster Keaton

Another case of “department uses tool that they won’t allow to be interrogated that seems to flag people on protected characteristics without actually interrogating *if* those characteristics actually do equate to a risk for an individual case” being used against marginalised people for something as incredibly essential as whether they’re allowed to care for their kid.
Without *anyone* in the system interrogating whether the incident that brought the family into contact with CPS was caused by something that isn’t related to quality of parental care, like another medical condition, or whether being in the *foster care system* is in fact damaging the child in and of itself.
I am incandescent on reading this. Yes, I am aware media can slant things, but a) story they focus on shows *so* many characteristics of systemic issues we see all over the place, and b) the statistics quoted in it about 80% of disabled parents in that state having their kids removed speak for themselves.
They focus on AI in the article because it’s a hot button issue rn, but the only real relevance of it is that the algorithms it uses are not being divulged, which suggests to me that they are *absolutely* using protected characteristics as risk factors without interrogating *why* those effects are seen or exploring ways to mitigate them that don’t involve violating the human rights of everyone involved, including the kids that are supposedly being protected.
It’s *incredibly* notable that CPS services using such risk assessment systems, whether AI is involved or not, remove children from IBPOC parents, *particularly* indigenous parents and families, at an enormously inflated rate without addressing how removal from their cultures and communities in childhood affects those children for their entire lives

Did you guys know that on average in the United States 55 kids go missing from foster care each day? I feel like that’s a lot.
