WonderBat: A re-imagination or an expansion of the "One More Day" scene from JLA #90

For Diana to be the one to counsel him on the reasons why they wouldn't last, something must have devastated her love for him. They couldn't work, but to stand there in the dark after she left the room, after she spoke the words he wished she hadn't had the confidence to say, it--

"Can I have one more day?"

"Every one I have left. My life is yours."

My cousin Helen, who is in her 90s now, was in the Warsaw ghetto during World War II. She and a bunch of the girls in the ghetto had to do sewing each day. And if you were found with a book, it was an automatic death penalty. She had gotten hold of a copy of ‘Gone With the Wind’, and she would take three or four hours out of her sleeping time each night to read. And then, during the hour or so when they were sewing the next day, she would tell them all the story. These girls were risking certain death for a story. And when she told me that story herself, it actually made what I do feel more important. Because giving people stories is not a luxury. It’s actually one of the things that you live and die for.

Jellal watched while Erza waded beyond the shore of the ocean, bewitched by the reality of her presence, let alone the beauty that she possessed.

Her gorgeous scarlet hair swayed when she glanced over her shoulder at him. “What’s the matter, Jellal?” she dared to ask him, someone as susceptible to her charm as he was, “You’re not scared of the tide, are you?”

“No, Erza.” He answered softly and prepared to follow her in deeper.

Only to himself, as the lapping water urged him to move faster, did Jellal admit without hesitancy, ‘The only thing I fear is you.’

It was like a gargoyle perched on the edge of a church – the imagery of two things that countered one another, actually made to complement each other.

As Laxus sat at the bar of Fairy Tail’s guildhall, he was completely aware of the men ogling Mirajane, and it made his skin itch.

“Another beer, Laxus?” Speak of the devil…

Laying down his cash, he groaned, “Nah, I better get home.”

Then, as if completely unaware…

“Remember to leave the lights on for me this time.” Mirajane frowned.

Just like that, the room felt zapped, putting a smile on Laxus’ face.

InuYasha grumbled at Kagome’s side, making her feel awful to see him suffering the way he was. “I’m sorry, InuYasha. I didn’t think you’d mind coming here with me.” She apologized as she looked around at Odaiba’s noisy amusement park.

“Tch, I’m fine.” Promised the hanyou, stubbornly.

“The frown on your face says otherwise.”

InuYasha glanced down at her and proclaimed, “So long as you take me to get something good to eat, I’ll survive.”

The romanticism of their date felt stale when he talked like that.

‘Well,’ Kagome thought to herself, sighing, ‘I am a modern girl, after all.’

“Um…are you having fun, Usagi?” Mamoru asked while watching his girlfriend glance suspiciously around the restaurant he had taken her to, in order to celebrate their anniversary.

“I’m just making sure.” Usagi murmured.

“Of…?”

“That we weren’t followed!”

“I haven’t seen anyone.” Mamoru sweat-dropped, noticing the stares they were getting.

“I just want our anniversary to be perfect! If they think—”

“It’ll be perfect if you just look at me.” Her prince promised.

His princess’ cheeks turned red as she slowly moved to face her knight. “…You’re right.” She whispered sincerely, her smile gleaming as bright as the full moon.
