okay but... how do you think jily and their friends adjust to her surname change? i feel like only sirius and james called her evans pre-marriage on a regular basis- but post marriage do you think they call her lily or evans or even potter ( feel like sirius might find it amusing to call her that ) ?

ok so i think all the marauders called her evans at some point in their hogwarts years. as a product of the english boarding school system, i can confirm that surnames are just A Thing. i don't understand why honestly? i still go by my maiden surname in my childhood friend circles (and then i became a teacher where my surname continued to be used so i'm solidified in that forever at this point)

that being said—i think that the switch over to lily was an intimate gesture for all the marauders. a sort of initiation. no she never got a mwpp nickname or anything like that but i like to believe it was pretty significant when she was close enough with them to call her by her first name. i think remus and peter adjusted to lily and stuck with it, while sirius used evans pretty exclusively except for in more serious (ha) situations. and then james flipped pretty fluidly between lily, evans, or whatever lovey dovey mush he came up with.

and i think this relatively stayed the same after marriage except for a well place potter exactly as you said, from sirius! and of course a well placed potter from james, a la "you may only call me 'mrs. darcy' when you are completely, and perfectly, and incandescently happy" moment hehe

personally i think it's impossible to overdo the use of "evans" or to overdramatise the Moment of the switch to "lily" in any sort of jily fic because in canon james says evans like seven times in the span of two pages and only uses lily when he's literally seconds away from being murdered so

a thing that i particularly love about the hunger games prequels is how it shows that people have been fighting against the games since their inception

when i was younger and read the original trilogy for the first time i was so bothered how it was 74 years of games, i remember thinking how could it have gone on so long without anyone doing anything

these prequels highlight that people have been fighting from the get-go: lucy gray's defiance, reaper ripping down panem's flags to cover the fallen tributes, haymitch's games and how many others shared his ideologies - the capitol just drowns them out, they rewrite their stories so their efforts are forgotten

liberation takes time and it's built upon the actions of those in the past
