i hate surprises (but never with you)

At the rooftop, Kavin is shocked when he sees the words on the ground. In all his dreams playing out the what ifs of this scene, never had he imagined that Mona actually liked him. For some reason, he had never been able to entirely fathom that his crush was perhaps requited.

It just makes the pain and regrets of the past sting more. But it’s offset by the girl beside him. The reason why he came here in the first place.

Lately, ever since Kaning entered his life, he’s been shocked a lot. It’s become a common occurrence—more so than he’d like but he doesn’t mind.

When he had pressed Kaning against his car seat, almost about to kiss her, he hadn’t thought about using her, and she was right—he could have. Why did he hold himself back with her, when he had never done so with other girls? Was it because of their friendship alone? He almost kissed Mona too. What stopped him from kissing Kaning in that moment?

And damn it all to hell, she was right. His chipmunk was right.

He couldn’t use her.

She was always smart and quick, his chipmunk.

Maybe that’s why, against the ice-condensed glass of his gin, he saw her. His smart, quick, intelligent and perceptive chipmunk who had surprised him along every step of the way. For a man who admittedly doesn’t enjoy surprised and shocks, he hasn’t minded hers at all.

He turns to look at her, smiling softly and she returns his look with a bright, thousand-watt watery grin that reminds him of the reason he came here in the first place.

Slowly, he wraps the hand closest to her around her wrist. She looks down, a little gasp escaping her lips.

“Kavin?”

He tugs her closer, gentle but firm, and softly presses his lips against hers.

It’s a brief kiss before he pulls away.

She looks shocked, and he’s about to apologize.

“I like you,” he blurts out.

Her gap-mouthed stare turns into a smile. With a mischievous look, she pulls his favorite surprise of them all.

Suddenly, she pulls his sleeve, pulling him down and kisses him hard till their teeth bang against each other.

He smiles into the kiss, and wraps an arm around her waist, pulling her closer. Her arms go around his neck, fingers brushing against the nape and the stray baby curls there.

He has had lots of regrets about never coming here to this rooftop when Mona first asked him to.

And now, he has none.

A little sigh of pleasure escapes her, and he swallows it. Yes, no regrets whatsoever.

I don’t think Kavin and Kaning’s story was rushed.
