I’ve been spamming everyone over on Bluesky with this but haven’t made a post here yet! So anyway I’ve been working on a paper dolls house (inn) for Ed and Stede and it’s been a lot of fun so far :)

I still need to make the roof but I’ve run out of glue so I’ve been forced to stop lol. Also still need to make furniture and actual Ed and Stede dolls to put inside :D

Dear Good Omens fandom! Do you want to celebrate the release of S3 together, in person, with some cool activities?

My dear friend @beccibarnes and my humble self started planning a little get-together in the city of Hamburg in Northern Germany.

It all started as a silly idea, but we kept going on, and now we want to make it real. We took heavy inspiration from Prague Omens and Prague Pirates (An OFMD fandom meeting) - two really cool events that have already taken place several times and were massive successes.

It will happen over the span of one weekend. All main activities are set for Saturday + Sunday, with some additional plans for folks who will be arriving on Friday afternoon/evening.

The main part of the event would be a biiig watch party - as in, booking a movie theatre just for us! - and we've already begun to contact several movie theatres in the city.

Besides that - we already have some other activities in mind, which could include, but are not limited to:

a tour through the city

a boat trip on the Elbe river

having lunch and/or dinner together, maybe even breakfast 👀

having a picnic, if the weather allows it

visiting a board game or cat café

belting out some tunes at a karaoke bar

visiting local exhibitions and sightseeing activities

We will keep it as budget friendly as possible, pinky promise!

The biggest problem is: We don't have a release date yet (thanks, amazon). That makes planning very difficult, not just for us - for you too. Second problem is: We have no idea, how many people to expect (if any, besides us). Therefore, we are asking you:

Now, some additional words about Hamburg, in case you've been wondering...

Hamburg is Germany's 2nd biggest (and also the best, but shhh) city. It's easily reachable by car, bus, train and plane. Our airport is comfortably placed right in the middle of the city and has lots of destinations from all over Europe. Hamburg also has train connections into every nook and cranny of Germany + direct connections to Prague, Vienna, Copenhagen and Basel. We also have a huge central bus station... so yeah. Lots of ways to reach the city.

just so you know i wrote a poem one time that i hated and i was so so so embarrassed about but i had to post it as part of a whole situation with some friends and it got like 3 million likes across my socials and people made zines about it and adapted it to songs

and then i wrote a poem a month ago and i was like "this is my best work yet. it's the most important piece to me i've ever written and sharing it will be self actualizing." my friends didn't even like it.

and the point here is that i talk to so many artists who make something successful and then they're so scared to follow it up and they say "what if the next thing i make sucks?"

it might! that's art babbeeyyyyyy!! so make a third thing!

I'm worried there's a sort of cultural amnesia coming over OFMD fandom and people are forgetting how this canyon stuff developed, which is understandable. I think a lot of fandom newbies come in and think Izzy Canyon started out as a normal side faction that just really liked a supporting character kind of a lot until the end of season two when their fave died, after which they kind of went nuts and became bitter toward the show and started lashing out.

That would totally make sense. I understand why people assume that's what happened because honestly it would make way more sense than what actually happened. But it is not true. The canyon was exactly as deranged and toxic as they are now long before season 2 dropped. The only difference is that they used to aim the toxicity only at other fans who were insufficiently deferential to their interpretation of Izzy, and now they also aim it at the creators of the show and the show itself.

Here's just one example and it's something everyone can agree objectively happened. In January 2023, long before season 2, an OFMD charity fanzine was published. There was a purchase price, with the proceeds going 100% to Rainbow Youth, a nonprofit org providing support for queer youth in Aotearoa. The zine contained some meta essays. One essay was about Izzy - specifically, about why he's a really compelling character who the author liked a lot.

The essay notably tried really hard to avoid taking any particular stance on ANYTHING remotely controversial about how to interpret Izzy as a character; for instance, it didn't take any stance on whether or not he's queer OR on whether or not he's homophobic OR on whether or not he was destined for redemption. It did, however, describe him as an antagonist in season 1, and as a character many fans "love to hate."

This essay was considered so deeply offensive by the proto-canyon that they not only complained en masse about it, they WANTED REFUNDS. I don't mean they said "shit man this sucks I want a refund" in a jokey way, I mean significant numbers of people LITERALLY IN FULL SERIOUSNESS DEMANDED THEIR MONEY BACK. From a CHARITY ZINE. Money that was going TO CHARITY. The makers of the zine actually had to put out an official response to this because it was a serious thing.

The zine was called The Art of Fxckery. You can look this up.

That's what the canyon was already fully like by January 2023. That's why those of us who've been here the whole time always knew it would end this way: even if David Jenkins made an active decision to pander to the canyon, there was no possible way the show could kowtow to the canyon's demands thoroughly enough to be spared. Even describing season one Izzy as an antagonist was enough.

I got a set of gouache paint and chose to test it out on an octopus (really leaning into the boneless theme). Did some detailing with acrylic paint marker. I think I like it!

I feel like so many of Izzy fans' complaints about his arc only really make sense if you operate on the premise that he's the ONLY queer character in the show.

Like "Killing him off is bury your gays" would only be a legitimate claim if the whole show wasn't centred around queer characters, relationships and themes. And yeah, if the show was centred around a cishet romance instead, having a character with a creepy sexualised obsession with the man, making several violent attempts to break them up and ultimately dying would be pretty terrible.

But it's not. Izzy's not the sole queer character and he's definitely not the "most" queer character. He wasn't selected for death because he was the token queer character. He's an antagonist who acts as an obstacle to queer romance and queer characters expressing and presenting themselves in ways that feel most true to them. These complaints only make sense in a vaccuum without the context of the show as a whole, and it makes me think these people don't actually watch the show and just base their reading on clip compilations of scenes with him in them.

In my opinion it's a lot more healthy to be able to own that you dislike someone for petty reasons than to do all kinds of mental gymnastics to make everyone you don't really vibe with out to be a bad person actually
