Alice’s gift could be that she needs to physically connect with the person- maybe touch her forehead to the other person’s, so she could read vibrations from her and the person’s inner eyes about what the future will hold for that person.

Edward’s physical gift would look like the picture below, where he’s only able to read people by absorbing their brain fluid. His gift would only be useful on other vampires, for obvious reasons.

If you had to turn every vampire's power purely physical, how would you do so for the Cullens?

This one is so tricky as I think generally the psychic powers just make more sense for vampires. Inasmuch as anything about vampires make sense.

Jasper's gift is supposed to be physical in canon, but I will go to my grave believing that was a retcon after SM started writing the "epilogues" to Twilight that eventually became Forever/Breaking Dawn and realized it would be cool if Bella were immune to ALL THE POWERS and not just Edward's but, oops, Jasper and Alice's gifts already worked on her. I'm fully convinced that's when she came up with the "mental vs physical" powers stuff and shoved Jasper's clearly mental power into a 'physical' box by saying he influences your emotions by actually changing your bodily reactions--calms or speeds up heart rate, floods endorphins, etc. Which like, okay that's weird but it works I guess . . . for humans. Makes zero sense for vampires who don't have a heart rate and just overall don't work like humans and yet Jasper's gift clearly works on them. So. Yeah. I think it's a retcon and it was originally meant as another sort of psychic, extrasensory gift like Alice and Edward's.

I don't think Alice or Edward's gifts can really become physical. They are just 100% ESP kind of stuff that only exists in the mind. So maybe we have to think of 'physical' powers differently and say that Edward's weird super fast running thing is his physical gift (still don't get why died-of-the-Spanish-flu rich Chicago boy Edward is the fastest and not like, ran-fast-enough-as-a-human-to-catch-up-with-a-vampire Carlisle but, sure. Why not). Emmett's strength can then be a physical gift, and Rosalie's beauty, too. They are real things that exist in the physical world, not illusions, not ESP. Maybe playing on the idea of Alice's canon ability to see the future, her physical gift is even more enhanced eyesight than vampires typical have? So she can still "see" things others can't, but in a more literal, physical sense.

I guess Esme's ability to love is a physical thing. No, not like that! Well, maybe? But more it's a real thing that exists, it's not an illusion. She doesn't make you artificially feel like you are loved, she actually loves you? But maybe she has some other enhanced sense too. Hearing? Like that Mom Sense where you try to sneak around or do something you shouldn't and she always hears it.

Likewise I guess compassion is a real Thing and not an illusion. And he should be the fastest like WHY include the "he was 23 and very fast" line in his backstory and then make Edward the speed runner WHATEVER. But another take on a physical gift for Carlisle might be some kind of healing ability outside of his doctoring skills. It would be physical in that it actually physically heals a wound or whatever rather than being an illusion?

I love the simplicity of this little vessel as a form of enrichment, and the potential it holds for more complicated activities.

Wolf Pack Careers

Sam- I like the idea of him working in construction or contracting, eventually working his way up to foreman or running the business. My headcanon is that he likes participating in building things that will last, and finds inspiration in ancient buildings that still stand to this day. I also could see him as a cop or security officer for the reservation, since he already does that anyway. It’s stated in New Moon that he, Jared, and Paul ran off a guy who was selling drugs on the reservation, so I think he should be paid for it.

Quil and Jared are a lot alike, so I could see either of them as a local radio or TV personality, cracking jokes and entertaining people for a living. Jared can probably do a ton of imitations, so maybe he’d move off the reservation and be a voice actor for a kid’s show. I definitely think neither of them would settle down for steady 9-5 jobs, as they are both more free-spirited. Quil could turn his love of video games and comics into a career of graphic design or freelance illustrating, but he’d also be an amazing event or recreational coordinator for a nursing home, and he’d love listening to elderly people’s stories.

It’s hard to figure out Paul, but I could get behind him working as a fireman or something steady that most people wouldn’t want a career in- garbageman, truck driver, maybe he drives an armored car. Paul doesn’t care what he does, because his passions are his hobbies and interests and not what he does for a living.

Leah is a boss bitch and could do anything she set her mind to. The only headcanon I have for her job is that it would be anywhere but La Push. Maybe she’d end up as a park ranger, because I think she’d excel in jobs where she’s her own boss. She probably takes a ton of classes at community college to figure out her interests, and ends up bouncing around in a few different careers because she loves new challenges.

Jake builds and sells cars for a living, and spends his time building wheelchair ramps and other such things to make Forks and La Push and bordering communities more handicap and disabled-friendly. He eventually branches out in advocating for disabled spaces, and becomes a spokesperson on their behalf. Eventually he partners with a hospital and begins making custom prosthetics.

Embry is focused and detail-oriented, so a good career path would be a writer, but I love the idea of him being a lawyer for his community or the environment. I see him as just as caring as Seth, it’s just not as apparent, and he’s very dedicated to the community that took him and his mother in, and he’s perseverant enough to get through law school. He’d make a great lawyer because he’s passionate about justice and has a level head when debating. If he went down the writer path, he’d probably work as a bartender while writing his first novel, and he has the best stories because of it. He’d be into the mystery or horror genres.

Seth is passionate about improving lives, so I could see him as a teacher, but I think getting a degree in biology or zoology would be on his level. He’s a lot like Leah in that he can do anything he wants (Sue excels at raising self-sufficient and proactive kids), and I could see him as a midwife, paramedic, working at a wildlife reservation, a doctor, a nurse like his mom, and so on. No matter what he does, it will help people, because Seth does not stand on the sidelines when he could do something.

We really only heard about Sam's, Leah's, and Jacob's phasing in canon. What do you think the wolf pack's first changes were like? How do you think they individually reacted? Also, I love your zodiac edits!

jared - being only the second to phase, i think he was very freaked out the first time it happened. he doesn’t strike me as an inherently angry person, so i feel like he might have had some uncharacteristic mood swings during the span of time he had his growth spurt. i also like to think that one day he wakes up and has a peter parker moment when he realizes his eyesight has gotten significantly better lmao. anyways, his initial change probably happened when he got frustrated at something stupid on a day when nothing was seeming to go right and it sent him over the edge. he was able to calm down and change back fairly quickly (in a handful of days) with sam able to guide him through it.

paul - oh boy. paul is just a temperamental person by nature, so during his growth spurt his anger just got worse. he probably got into an argument with his father about his worsening attitude and that made him fly off the handle and phase for the first time. the ordeal sent him into a state of shock and confusion, and having sam step in and try to tell him what to do and to calm down just made him even more angry. learning how to change back into a human definitely had to take him at least a week/week and a half, and even then it would be hard for him to not phase accidentally when he inevitably lost his temper again.

embry - much like jared he doesn’t strike me as the angry type of person at all, he’s for sure more peaceful than anyone else in the pack. during the time of his growth spurt, i don’t think he would express a reactive type of anger towards anyone or anything in particular, rather he would just feel frustrated and angry but not be able to figure out exactly why he felt that way. he would keep it all bottled up inside and it would just build and build until one day it caused him to phase for the first time. the poor bby was definitely confused and terrified when it happened, and scared that he would never be able to go back to being human again. with help from sam and jared, he was able to change back into a human in about the same time it took jared.

quil - seeing as both of his best friends phased before him and the fact that his grandfather was also a shape-shifter, he was probably able to go to his grandfather to ask about the weird stuff that was happening. his grandfather, seeing that his grandson was starting to get taller/more muscular at an accelerated rate, clued him in eventually as the symptoms started to get more intense. so in a way, quil was more prepared than the others and not as taken aback the first time he phased. since it was still a traumatic experience, he was a little bit freaked out, but with his friends guiding him through it he was quickly about to change into a human again. he’s the only one who was excited about his phasing after it happened.

seth - we know in canon that it happened alongside leah’s first phasing. after his father had a heart attack right in front of him, the pandemonium caused him to phase for the first time too.

i don’t know enough about colin or brady to have any headcanons as far as their phasing is concerned

Embry What they smell like: cedarwood. mmmm How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): boy loooooves his sleep. he’s the kind of guy who just keeps hitting the snooze button in the morning which sometimes makes him late for school. stomach or side sleeper What music they enjoy: any rock/alternative music. he plays guitar in his spare time sooo… besides that, sam has put him on to older, classic rock songs. his favorite band is the red hot chili peppers and that is not my opinion that is a FACT  How much time they spend getting ready every morning: depends on how long he slept in LOL. but fr he cares about what he looks like because his mom taught him that first impressions matter so he usually takes time to look at least decent unless he’s going to patrol then he doesn’t really care Their favorite thing to collect: photographs. he’s secretly a soft and sentimental person and likes to have something to remember moments by whether they were big or small it’s all important to him. he loves the concept of being able to save a snapshot of a certain point in time forever Left or right-handed: right handed Religion (if any): tribal beliefs Favorite sport: he’s not huge into sports but he can enjoy football and soccer Favorite touristy thing to do when traveling (museums, local food, sightseeing, etc): he likes to go around taking pictures of all of the famous landmarks and other interesting things he sees. eating at popular local restaurants is another one of his faves. Quil What they smell like: woodsy like cypress  How they sleep (sleeping position, schedule, etc): he tends to stay up super late but doesn’t get tired? like ever??? he can fall asleep in basically any position but on his back is easiest What music they enjoy: alternative and rock. him and embry share pretty much the same taste in music, although his favorite band is overwhelmingly green day.  How much time they spend getting ready every morning: like no time at all. wears whatever the f he wants as long as it doesn’t seem dirty. obviously cares about basic hygiene but doesn’t try hard to impress people. thinks paul spends too much time on his hair and rags on him. Embry Call

Embry grew up with just his mother and grandmother in the house. He didn’t know his father. He had asked questions about him when he was younger, but his mother didn’t have many answers for him, so he stopped asking. As he grew, he realized how much of his mother he had in him: her eyes, her laugh that lit up her whole face, her curiosity and intelligence and care for others was all of him, too.

His name, however, came from his grandmother. She loved to knit, and while she did, she watched soap operas. They felt like a constant fixture of the house, like one was always playing. They were on so much that when it came time to name Embry, the names on the shows were heard so often, they picked their favorite and called it a day. Embry loved his name, and loved the connection to his grandmother even more.

They were on all the time, so it was only natural he grew to love them too. As soon as he got home from school, he would join his grandmother on the couch. She caught him up on whatever he had missed, adding her own commentary as she explained. She had a lot of opinions, and her and Embry could spend all afternoon debating away about the latest plot twist. He had a lot of opinions too. 

After watching a couple episodes of a couple of different shows, it would be about time to make dinner. He didn’t like it very much, but his grandmother felt it was important he knew how to cook. Plus, his mother often worked late so they both wanted to make sure there was dinner ready for her. He learned the basics of cooking: how to gauge spices, how to use a knife, how to pair ingredients together. After he mastered those, his grandmother started teaching him old family recipes. 

He did his homework at night after dinner, or in the mornings before school, if he did it at all. He didn’t like school very much; it didn’t hold his attention very well. He did enough for his grades to be around the high C/low B range; enough to keep his mother off his back without working too hard. Quil and Jacob did their best to help him out, holding study sessions and reminding him about homework and projects due, but the three of them could be so easily distracted that they weren’t necessarily much help. 

The three of them were practically inseparable. All their classes were together, and their teachers constantly had to separate them for causing disruptions. They would still pass notes and make faces across the room to each other, landing themselves in detention more often than not. They spent their weekends together, fixing cars, exploring their beach and town, or playing sports together.

Embry didn’t spend much time alone; he found it boring and disliked the quiet. When Quil and Jacob were busy, and so was his grandmother, he tried to find other things to fill his time. He walked to the main road in town, seeing if his mother needed help in the shop. She often did, putting him to work organizing the shelves or cleaning the shop. Other times he would run errands for his grandmother, buying groceries she had forgotten or dropping off things to had knitted to people she was gifting or selling them to. Other times, he just went on long walks, greeting people he passed, looking for something to occupy his time.

found family roles, part 1: wolfpack edition

part of what makes the “found family” trope work is that each member is an integral part of the collective. they serve a purpose, add value to the dynamic. without it, we get a meaningless hodgepodge of characters (see stephenie meyer’s twilight saga). here’s how you could modify the wolfpack’s roles to give each person more importance:

sam: the organizer. sam’s authoritative nature puts him in a position to have the final say. but whatever decisions the fam makes, sam will help coordinate the pack & their plans into a cohesive strategy that gets shit done

jake: the intel. tru, the dude can’t help but love juicy pack gossip. but his connection to the cullens (& by extension, other vampires) means he can stay informed on the goings-on of the paranormal world at large, putting the shapeshifters in a good position to defend themselves from any potential threats

leah: the braincell. bc a group of teenage boys will always spout off bad ideas. leah’s there to step in & slap the pack back into reality. she challenges sam’s authority in a way jacob doesn’t, & the pack will usually side with her when she & sam have different views on direction

quil: le chef de cuisine. when emily has the night off, you can bet it’s quil in the kitchen whippin up some tasty treats. the only pack member allowed to wear her green gingham Kiss The Cook apron. paul still raves about quil’s tomato-cheese casserole with crunchy dorito topping

jared: the comic. whereas paul tries (& sometimes fails) to be funny, jared always manages to diffuse pack tension with his quick wit & well-timed punchlines. he never jokes at the expense of someone else. (unless it’s during a video game sesh. then all bets are off. boy talks more trash than a waste management worker)

embry: the library. anyone looking for a bookish nerd intellectual to help back new ideas w/ data or gather info to learn new tasks, embry is your guy. aka The Lore Expert - he’s your go-to for info on the paranormal. if you’re looking to copy his homework answers (@ quil), kindly fuck off

seth: the charmer. adults love happy-go-lucky seth bc his “innocence” reassures them that the wolfpack isn’t doing anything reckless. what they don’t know? seth’s coverups are legendary, & his smooth-talking can get the gang out of any sticky situation when needed. which is often. like, very often. like, seth’s on call 24/7

paul: the daredevil. you need someone to act as bait for a vampire trap? paul. you need a sparring partner who won’t go easy on you? paul. you need someone to test out your disgusting fried spam & twinkie sandwich? 100% paul, pass that plate homie

To continue a theme, aesthetic/character scents for the Pack?

To embody the Tired Dad energy, Sam is like one black coffee. But in his softer moments, maybe some of those warm, homey smells that relate to Emily, like fresh-baked bread and summer blueberries.

Quil is mostly chocolate, to correspond with the joke about his fur color, but he's just a playful, flirty, fun dude in general so it works. Maybe also sea breezes?

Jacob has some of those earthy tones like moss and pine, but also motor oil (but not in a bad way; growing up my dad worked in a machine shop and there was something comforting about that smell on his jacket or in his truck) and a faint hint of warm orange soda.

Seth is honey and lemonade and just sweet, bright scents. Maybe some sandalwood underneath to ground it.

Leah is crackling bonfire and toasted marshmallows. Burnt and bitter on the outside, perhaps, but a softness and sweetness beneath. Maybe a bit of cinnamon and ginger in there somewhere.

Embry to me seems more shy and chill, so maybe like apple cider? Lowkey and comforting. Maybe a bit of caramel to match Quil's chocolate.

Jared is the hardest for me, he's the one I usually forget, but in the movies he's kind of the sarcastic joker so something fun? Salt water taffy? It's got the connection to the ocean but is also kind of goofy and sour and sweet.

Paul is Axe body spray something fiery, maybe cinnamon candy? Fireball whisky? (Drink responsibly, kids). Maybe some of that bonfire essence, too.
