Perhaps, I do not post enough pics of me dancing. I made a bold choice in posting this pic, which was taken in 2014 at the admission of the Rev. Fr. Garfield Campbell/@gart_rc as Rector of the Trelawny Parish Church Cure of Souls. I remember the moment being magical. I do love performing in church. This is an old photo of Dad and me. I've had his photo for some time now given to me by my dear step-mother. I thought of him today and smiled because I remembered the first time I saw him 'drop foot inna one dance a Watt Town'. He was born in Watt Town and spent most of his years there before migrating to England like others of his generation to find a better life. He dreamed of returning home one day but in the meantime he would return on holidays to his family home nestled in the hills next to his parents' graves. On this particular visit there was a big dance in the centre of town and he dressed to impress in his gray shirt I had ironed for him and clean blue jeans stiff with newness. He launched onto the dance floor as soon as we entered the dance with a wide grin on his face. He was confident, happy, bold, daring and in his element but slightly dancing on his own timing and in his own world. He had mischief in his eyes as he told me to loosen up, let go and have fun. They cleared the floor for him, not me. I did not want to rain on his parade. He was the life of the party and was there to live it up, just a little until he returned to British frost bites and dirt drenched snow. As he danced and lost himself in the music I slipped into the crowd to watch their reactions to his abondoment. It was then that I knew for sure who my talent for dance came from. I was gifted with my mother's kind disposition but I definitely stole my father's passion. #drivenbypassion #drivenbypurpose (at Watt Town, Saint Ann, Jamaica)

I had such a great time with these students in St. Mary who attended the dance workshop. Before we did the movement segment they shared what drives them and what they are most passionate about. I got some very interesting responses. Their personalities came out as they became more comfortable. We had some good laughs and some were not timid about sharing their innermost thoughts. We really got to know each other. I shared a little about my life and the wonderful careers they could pursue in dance. Many had no idea of the many careers in dance and the careers that are related. Would I engage young people in this way again? Do you even have to ask? I would do it again in a heartbeat. #drivenbypassion #drivenbypurpose

This award, given by @azprestonhall each year for 'Excellence in Dance', is perhaps one of the greatest honours of my life. I'm humbled every time I think of it. It pushes me to work harder every day. Each day is a new opportunity to share and push others to go beyond themselves to achieve excellence. It is my desire to assist young people to go even further than I ever did. Education and Dance are really my calling. A student said to me once that he wants to excel further than I ever did. I replied, "That's the spirit. The student shall become the master." I don't think he understood how, in that moment, he lifted my spirits. Dreams and aspirations of others inspire me and they do come true. Being even a tiny fraction of their journey gets me out of bed each day. I often think about the saying, 'To whom much is given, much is expected' and it keeps me humble. I hope this trophy inspires others to go after their dreams through hard work, commitment, discipline, sustained application and generosity of spirit. Thanks Preston Hall for this great honour. It took me a while to absorb the reality of it. It is really quite surreal. Blessings! Preston Sharks! Sharks have... (Only a Prestonite would know the answer). #drivenbypassion #drivenbypurpose (at Aston Preston Hall)

Throwback to 20 years ago when I first entered the teaching profession at Merl Grove High School in the English Department. This pic reminded me that I've been an educator for 20 YEARS!!!! Unbelievable! Time really flies when it doesn't feel like work. I run into past students quite often who still call me 'Sir'. It doesn't matter where they see me or what I might be doing they blurt out 'Sir' with a smile that stretches from ear to ear. Some say that I've never taught them while others remind me that I taught them in grade 7 or I was their form teacher! They are fully grown ladies now doing amazing things with their lives. Some I recognise, others I don't and some of them have taken the time to say the most glowing things to me in person or on social media. Their wonderful sentiments encourage and inspire me to keep on giving to this noble profession. They make being an educator very worthwhile and fulfilling. I'm so happy I followed my passion and purpose and looking back I have no regrets. To all my students who shared precious moments with me thank you for making my 20 years meaningful and unforgettable. Continue to be driven by your passion and purpose. Don't give up and continue to present the best version of yourself to the world. #drivenbypassion #drivenbypurpose (at Kingston, Jamaica)

"I think we live in a time where artists are very tidy and afraid of what others might think. They hesitate in expressing their views and opinions. So being original is rare. For me, it's about living the life you create for yourself, to create your kingdom. I think we should work on being our unique selves and becoming our greatest versions. I like to remind people to take the power to live their life the way they wish." Nuno Roque #drivenbypurpose #drivenbypassion (at Kingston, Jamaica)

It took me a very long time to learn that you can’t burn yourself out trying to help others, even if you believe that a life of service is your true passion and purpose. You will wither and fade like a tree with no leaves left to offer shade to anyone if you continue to overextend yourself. It is ok to say no. In fact, no is an acceptable sentence. Take care of yourself first, water your roots and when you are in full bloom and able to help, do so. By then you will not only be able to save yourself but others. Take heed, though, that while you grow you don’t stunt the growth of others for a single tree cannot run an entire ecosystem. Let the sunlight pass through your leaves to the young plants below you for we are all in this thing together. #drivenbypassion #drivenbypurpose 📸@hondonovien
