The irony of people being confused (and a little scared) as to which Will is the real Will when Will himself probably doesn't know the answer to that one.
Often with clones, the main issue is 'which one is real, which one is the clone?' And that's what we're automatically thinking right now. So for a character like Will, the best explanation I have is every single one of them is the actual Will. The last one standing is as original as the first who had stood.
They can probably use the same abilities as well, making him a character with a horrifying amount of potential.
Of course if I'm wrong that makes the recent chapters including him 10x scarier than it already is...

Montresor's Greatest Fear (Long post)
I know that I had written an analysis post on him previously, but I wanted to talk about it again on a separate post with clearer details.
Before I come to a conclusive theory, I want to go over the interesting details.

It starts with him standing in a church, standing on the Belial sigil.
Fun fact, the term Belial was later referred to as simply the Devil in the New Testament and is used to often used to characterize 'worthlessness' or 'weakness'
This gets further interesting because his Spectre is the Son of Belial. This phrase in Hebrew translates to 'son of worthlessness' or better said 'people defined by worthlessness'. (Do fact check that and inform me if I'm wrong, I'm going off on vague memory and knowledge I had during a short phase)
Moving on, he sees a long line of cloaked figures up front, none that which he recognizes, all approaching him. These figures are covered in soot and grime.

One of them reaches out and touches his chest, insulting him to his face (mood). This touch burns him. They start to take turns, touching him and insulting him. And with each insult it burns him.

It's terrifying, it's clearly haunting him. He's rejecting the insults.
What's more baffling is that, once they touch him, the soot on their body is transferred to him. As seen in the second picture, the people who are walking off are now cleansed. He is burned and getting dirtier and dirtier.

I didn't understand this scene at first. It feels like a line he threw out of desperation, a thread to keep hanging on. Especially the part where he claims that they needed him.
But they are using him. It's as if he's being used to carry their sins - if they are gluttonous, they're making him the gluttonous one. If they are selfish, they're making him the selfish one. They made him wicked, stupid, worthless and he tries to reject it. He's trying to convince SOMEONE that he isn't any of those. Awfully intriguing, really.
It's similar to a sin-eater, my theory is that he was used as a scapegoat. Like a designated sinner? I am not well aware of such concepts to talk about them, but I think it is a similar theme being applied here.
So all of this happens, he becomes very close to a crash out, and then his 'mother' shows up.

At first glance it looks as though she's hugging him, but upon closer look at her hand placement you can see that one hand is touching him the exact same way that every hooded figure from before had. Palm right on his body as if prepared to call him out/insult him.
Montresor does calm down a lot once she appears, listening in silence as she continues to...completely insult him. She excludes him from their community, comparing him to them. She calls him faithless - going as far as to say he deserves all he has gotten.
What surprises me is that he refuses, he says "I'm not" as in "I'm not faithless", and "I didn't" as in, "I didn't deserve this".
It's surprising because Montresor is someone who seems to fully admit what he is, he is proud of it. He knows he's an asshole, he knows he's vengeful, he doesn't do much to hide it. And yes, this may be a coping mechanism for he who seem to have been called such things his whole life. But the refusal feels wholehearted, desperate even.

She forces him into his knees to pray (she has a devious smile while he's surprised) and as you can see ^ she forces his hands together and raises them in praying motion.
The next scene is one I think we'll understand one the actual flashback regarding this scene is unlocked. He is defiant, almost casual when he says he doesn't remember. It almost looks like a child throwing a tantrum.
See, I think he's lying when he says he has forgotten. Originally I had thought he didn't pray much or perhaps he stopped at some point and never prayed again. And these are legitimate theories and could even be proven true along the lines. But in his latest flashback we see he was a preacher before he became an outlaw. Not a good one, of course as he was shown gambling. It does sort of imply he at least worked in a church back then so not remembering how to pray would be difficult to do - especially for someone who is likely to have grown up in churches. Such places treat religion like a habit, and one thing about habits are that they are hard to forget.
Plus, in the latest chapter he was in (120) he is wearing a cross necklace underneath his uniform. For someone who seems to 'look down' on God this proves that he has at least some faith. Of course he may wear it as a source of comfort as well. Religion is a very complicated thing after all, I'm not going to make solid conclusions here.

Fun fact! Montresor means my treasure in French! Monty here might be American in the webtoon but in the short story he's actually French.
Anyway, this is the final burning. The mother grabs his throat as she says this and it seems to burn his insides causing him to puke the out the actual devil. An interesting theory here would be that this implies that mother is the worst sinner of them all, but either way, the scene freaked me out.
I can't tell you what she means by "you had the devil inside since the day you were born" as it is a common insult against horrible people. However if this means that he has been treated like devil itself since he was a young child then I think I will genuinely feel remorse for Montresor.

So the devil he pukes out, which I'm assuming is a depiction of Belial, begins to attack people around the church.
In the background it is the bible verse Matthew 6:9-13, the 21st Century King James version specifically. (Btw I'm not Christian so this was a bitch to find, I was just writing down key words I saw between the teared bg but I'm pretty sure this is the one)
It goes:
In this manner, therefore pray ye: Our father who art in heaven , hallowed by Thy name
Thy Kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory forever.
Amen.
I might make a separate post about this verse later if I have a revelation, mostly because I was too tired to delve into the meaning of it. At first read it seems like a prayer for God to redeem them of their sins though.
As this verse plays in the background, the devil is attacking people, and Montresor watches it all laughing. He seems satisfied, pleased to see the sight. It's as if he's watching someone finally revenge for him. My guy is loving it.
Also if you look at the picture of him laughing you would see the exact handprint of his mother's on his chest.
He's laughing, in his illusion, but in reality, he looks worse off than ever.

Poor Will T-T
Montresor looks terrified here. I loved what Lenore said to him, pointing out how he's always scared. It made so much sense that I nearly pitied the guy.
Yes, if he really is scared of God or maybe the 'cult-like' behavior itself then every single thing he's done so far can be seen as an attempt to get away from that life. Every blasphemous action and unkempt behavior starts to seem as if he's desperate to not be seen as religious. He's nothing like them.
Or maybe it's the only way he knows how to be. Having been called the devil, depraved, horrible, those are the only words he knows how to fit into. So he needs to be like it, because if not then who even is he? He's scared of whatever that has been done to him, but it may also be the only thing he knows.
Either way, it scared him to such an extent and I am dying to know the full story there. Whether he's choosing to be horrible, or if he doesn't know how to be anything but horrible, or he's horrible because he's scared - I simply cannot wait to find out.
Bonus!
In his illusion he is watching the devil lash around, attacking the worshippers around him, while in reality he's lashing out going as far as to attack Will (who basically worships him omg)
Perhaps this means that even in the illusion, he's the devil and we're being tricked by seeing a subconscious part of himself enjoying the sight.
--
I feel like I should bring up that I don't even like Montresor. It's just that there's so much depth to him that I keep seeing whenever I'm doing mundane tasks that makes my mind wander.
#nevermore#nevermore webtoon#montresor nevermore#montresor#Montresor isn't even my favorite character#he's not even my second favorite character#I considered tagging this with christianity but imagine you try seeing religious posts and then you come across Montresor in the midst#webtoon#edgar allan poe

Reblogging this just in case we see it to be true (I already believe it's true) but also regarding Hii, I had just assumed it was a cursed doll lol. Thos made me realize that we don't know the source of Hii at all bc I just assumed it was a cursed entity that had gotten into the doll, and because that doll turned out to be Fu's vital instrument, the entity too gained the momentary ability to possess Fu when he uses the ability.
With that logic Fu would definitely be naturally strong, but perhaps his fighting style and in that moment his mobility and decisions all belong to Hii.
Another, unliklier take (one I just came up w) is that perhaps when the doll got a soul it got an actual since it's the only "humanoid" things we've seen so far. I don't think this one is a legit theory though since it is ultimately an inanimate object.
Either way I'm excited for Fu's backstory reveal and his connection to Hii. Even if it is classis anime DID I don't think it'll make them any lesser interesting.
I've been in love with Gachiakuta for a while and there's this detail I don't see people taking about with Fu and Hii.

It's very clear when the switch happens - Fu's text bubbles are white and Hii's are black. That means Fu was the one who punched a hole in the roof of the car and crawled out of it, not Hii. Fu "I'm just a little guy" Orostor can punch through metal and we go "Aaaw he scrunches in on himself he's so polite and shy" like my guys what if he scrunches in on himself because he has the potential to accidentally cave in someone's skull.
If Hii isn't the source of his strength then, what is he? I think he's the equivalent of a DnD style magic weapon tag and a sense of confidence, but that's all with the information we currently have which is diddly squat. Can other people hear Hii? Jabber seemed to think Fu was making him up. We've never seen a sentient Jinki before, so is Hii genuinely sentient or is he classic anime DID? Also, if Fu is strong on his own, could that be linked to his complete fear of responsibility?

THIS is a direct dialogue from the short story, by the way. Simply remarkable.

A Montresor Analysis (long post)
This is not a full analysis of his whole character but rather how he parallels to the character he is based off.

Right, he is based off the main character of Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Cask of Amontillado"
The novel summarized:
It is about a man named Montresor who has decided to enact revenge on his friend, Fortunato, for having insulted his family name.
In order to do this he informs his friend about having a pipe of Amontillado (A type of wine) which thrills Fortunato - telling him to lead the way at once. He words it in a sly sort of way that has the friend volunteering and insisting to go with him.
They go to Montresor's house and into his cellar where is claims to have the Amontillado in one of his vaults. As they walk, Montresor continues to make Fortunato drink to warm him up as they are in the cold undergrounds which causes Fortunato to be quite drunk for most part of the journey.
They make it to the vault and using bad description - it is basically a wall with a hollowed out opening. It is surrounded inside and out with piles of human bones which is suspected to be Montresor's ancestors who are mentioned to be dead and kept in the cellar.
Fortunato is sent inside to look for the Amontillado and once he does Montresor is quick to chain his foot to a large rock.
None the wiser, Fortunato continues to look for the wine as Montresor begins to place the stones back one by one, covering the vault until Fortunato is completely encased.
Important things to note includes:
-This is a recount by Montresor and we do not know how Fortunato had treated him or what he had said about his family name in prior to all this
-Montresor holds his family lineage in high regard, having come for nobility but now lost their status.
-Although old money, his staff have no respect for him; he had sent them away by informing them not to leave as he will be gone for the day. They left as soon as he did (lol).
-Towards the end, even when heavily drunk Fortunato does realize something is wrong and insists on leaving. Montresor indulges him by saying things such as "yes, yes, we should leave" while still placing the stones.
I have left out many details, so I do suggest reading the novel yourself for a real understanding (linked above)
The Webtoon:
In hindsight, the novel character and webtoon seem to lead very opposing lifestyles. The webtoon does spectacularly with the parallels which makes the character 10x as interesting.
they're both extremely manipulative characters
Giving both characters a lot of credit here, but they both have a strangely good grasp on people. Often knowing what to say and utilizing their words.
This is seen in the story when Montresor subtly prods at Fortunato's pride, bringing up how he could bring someone else to taste the Amontillado, and being the one to constantly suggest leaving so Fortunato becomes more stubborn.
Montresor from the webtoon uses his understanding of people to poke at their unclosed wounds. When he brought up the tidbit from Lenore's past and taunted her for it, he knows exactly which words will have Ada swooning over him (although that's not much of a challenge), and he even seems to somewhat understand Will's extreme doormat behavior when he has the subconscious flashback and comparison to a dog (which is a whole different can of worms)
pridefulness and fragility
I might say it is these two traits that push them towards such violent revenge.
Montresor is an extremely proud character. He is proud about what he is, what he does, and what he will do. He showcases himself as unapologetic, someone who can always get what he wants if he wanted it. Even before his death sentence (saying they will tie him to the tracks) he was extremely smug of his actions.
His fragility is something we have been slowly uncovering in the latest chapters. There is a lot to unpack with the chapter showing his greatest fear through Ada's illusion so I will only bring up what is relevant for now.
Ignoring his clear religious trauma and vivid mental and physical abuse, I would say his greatest fear is being called out for what he is. He is selfish, gluttonous, and all the in between. He acts like he is, but he does not want to be called that. He needs to stand above everyone so that no one can say such a thing about him, at least, not to his face. He needs to be needed and threatening.
This may sound like a stretch at first, but this could ultimately be a fear of God. He seems to not believe in God, even going as far as to tell Will that God saves no one. But with his cross necklace, this flashback, and even having been a preacher at some point in his life he is fooling no one really.
Anyway, still he does mean what he says about God as he doesn't even remember how to pray. By fear of God I mean, he is scared to confess his sins. He is scared to admit that he in fact is, what he says he is. He is scared that if he confesses to his wrongdoings God will punish him. We do not know how devoted exactly he used to be or how brainwashed he was, but it's clear he was branded as having the devil in him due to his lack of devotion and questioning God. I think once we uncover his full story it will be quite an interesting one to see.
I digressed a bit there, but the bottom line - anything that hurts his pride or even slightly uncovers the fragility he has hidden is a landmine that sets of a sinister violence inside him.
The brick wall
I'll admit, that scene chilled me. It is the most direct parallel I have seen in the webtoon as of yet.
Just like the story's Montresor, offended by Fortunato's treatment, had caged his friend inside a brick wall, the webtoon's Montresor had done the exact same thing. Their scheming had been similar, with both of them seemingly having a similar mindset which was "not placing myself at risk".
In this case, Duke was Fortunato - another chilling moment as that is the exact name he had used for himself in shows back when he was alive.
Duke is one of the more frequent aggressors towards all of Annabel's group, always prepared for a sly or irritating remark. I don't recall what he had exactly said to Montresor before but seeing that they were roommates their arguments and insults would have been more than enough.
It is my favorite mini arc so far, just saying.
I did have a few more things to say but my mind has sort of fizzed out on words so maybe I'll repost this or make a part 2 once I remember.
As for a personal opinion...um, I want to clarify once again that you all are not seeing him wrong. He is in fact a traumatized asshole at his core. But like all characters he is complex, and even though he tries to have a carefree attitude he is someone who covers up his emotions using hate.
I hope we see more of his development, I suspect we are currently on that train, speeding down the tracks with the brakes broken.
Note: I plan on doing this for the rest of the characters as well. I started w this guy because atm he has the most lore.

Day 2 of getting into Boynextdoor
The leader was NOT who I expected to be. I thought it would be Sungho, but it was the most extreme extrovert I've seen in my life.
Riwoo has a beautiful smile.
I have not once seen Leehan understand anything that's going on around him. I am way too intrigued by him and his "what's going on?" aura.

5 years ago I read a Lan Xichen/Jiang Cheng fic where Lan Xichen holes himself up in grief and is consistently visited by Jiang Cheng.
He has a garden in which he plants really depressing symbolic plants.
I don't remember anything else in the story, but towards the end Jiang Cheng does something, and Lan Xichen totally renovated his garden with a whole new symbolism. And he gifts it to Jiang Cheng as a dowry?
Anyway I have started my quest of going through that ship tags first again (it's 12x more than it used to be) in hopes of re-finding the fic. I think that fic healed something in me, and I need it to heal me again.

Sins represented by the Ichinose Family
WARNING!! MAJOR SPOILERS

I have never been much of a fan of time loop elements, but the characters in this manga were very interesting and had me hooked from the beginning till the end. So, what sins do each family represent?
Let me give you my two cents.
Shiori - Lust The most obvious representation. I'm sure this is everyone's starting point because it's the easiest to guess.
Shiori's exposed to be having an affair with a much older man (which surprised her too, in her defense). She is constantly shown wanting affection and had probably started chatting with people online to receive the slightest of it.
Minako (Mother) - Gluttony The second obvious one. She had Bulimia Nervosa (an eating disorder that causes people to binge eat and follow it up with compensatory behaviors to prevent weight gain).
She eats to forget her past, she eats to forget her insecurities, her room is filled with all kinds of food to the point at one point she had lost control. This is even more signified in one scene she tells Tsubasa to just eat one of the packet breads while she held two bags filled with food. Especially since Gluttony is defined as excessive consumption to the point of waste.
Kakeru (Father) - Envy The father was a very unnoticeable character throughout the manga up until the very end. At first I suspected him to be Sloth, and then Lust. Finally, once his whole past and the truth was revealed, I concluded he was Envy.
His envy stems from the lack of his father's expectations for him. Did he live a lucky life? Or did his father love his grandson more? Such thoughts festered in his mind, and in an attempt to prove himself, he had taken over his father's research and threw his own family down that whole rabbit hole. This was all the result of his envy and wanting his father to be proud of him as well.
Sachie (Grandmother) - Greed This one is also very straightforward. Her main trait is that she cares...no, she only cares for her husband, Tsubasa's grandfather. The grandfather is sick and comatose, and the family's only complaint about her is that she only spends time with the grandfather and doesn't do anything else.
Moreover, she is the first person to have realized what was happening, and that they were stuck in a dream and her first decision is to keep it a secret. All because she can spend more time with the grandfather. And when Tsubasa slowly starts uncovering the truth, she goes as far as to push him off a cliff in hopes to keep the loop and dreams ongoing. Indeed, it is a strong act of love. But it also proves that she is a selfish person.
Kozo (Grandfather) - Pride Kudos to the manga for managing to make a character that is alive haunt the narrative.
As I just said, the grandfather has the most crucial role in the manga, but it is still a background role. His sin was the hardest to deduce, but all his traits fall under the sin of Pride.
Okay come on, only a person with that level of confidence and pridefulness can manage to create a dream and pull the whole family into it. He was a physics professor, and he even called himself a genius at some point.
Not only that, even till the very end he refused to admit he had done Sota wrong. He had written in his letter to Tsubasa that Sota's potential would have done him good in the research, and had ignored his own pushiness over Sota's life and whatnot. They had shown his reaction, uneasy but arrogant, which explains his personality perfectly well.
Sota - Wrath Sota was the golden child of the family. Kind, dependable, and always there for everyone. But because he didn't show it outright (especially in the beginning) doesn't mean he had a lot of pent up anger inside of him.
From the beginning, I found him as a very angry person. Of course, he had every right to lash out at the family. But to jump to the belief that family is a horrible thing, and to feel endless anger towards families is a little... Plus, later when he comes back, his anger is more pronounced as we get to see him perspective more. His inner thoughts and his increasing wrath towards his family.
In the end, once he is much more open about his feelings, he is literally always shown irritated or yelling at someone😭 It is also pretty obvious that unlike the rest of his family, he still harbors uneasy or unhappy feelings towards them.
Tsubasa - Sloth I'll be honest, in the beginning I assumed he was the sin of Envy.
But as the manga went on, he is constantly accused of being ignorant and trying to sweep things under the rug. He had tried to ignore his feelings, others feelings, finding his memories and whatnot. All until he was forced to do so.
Tsubasa is a very interesting character. Because out of everyone in his family, he is the one who managed to overcome his sin. All the way till the middle, he was someone who actively tried to run away form his problems. Even when they showed him trying to solve something, he was very obviously avoiding the root of the issue. At the same time, he forgoes thinking, opting to directly find answers from people instead of himself.
Tbh I can talk a lot more about these guys, but by now I'm sure you get the gist of who is which sin so! It really was a great read.
