MCU headcanon:

Flora Colossus (Groot’s species) don’t ever stop growing due to their regenerative capabilities. The oldest members were said grow to thousands of meters tall. It’s why Yggdrasil is referred to as the world tree, as in some Asguardian legends, it’s said it was once a flora colossus that grew so old and so impossibly large that it transcended its physical being and became the nebula that connects the realms together. It’s partly why Groot’s language is taught as an elective, as it’s believed to be a sacred language.

Rocket had/has dyslexia. His handwriting is canonically messy in the movies but that could be either because he can't spell for shit and has to take his time spelling words or the joints in his hand lock sometimes (cough cough arthritis cough cough)

Also the way he'd pronounce things when he was little like instead of can't he'd said "can'ts" which he still does sometimes as an adult but very rarely

Since Drax, Pete, Gamora and Rocket all raised baby Groot as his parents, and the fact that in a galaxy full of different alien cultures, societies where non-monogamous dynamics would be the norm or at least somewhat common, there were probably at least a few misunderstandings during missions where the four of them were thought to be a polycute raising a kid.

Groot is capable of sustaining himself on water and nutrients from soil through his roots like most trees and plants, but he likes drinking liquids and eating solid food through his mouth. Especially in social situations like when he’s getting lunch with Rocket. If any other members of his species met him they’d probably think he was weird and uncivilised for taking in nutrients through his communication orifice.

This is more for MCU Rocket and Groot i but they met bc a bunch of kids (and I mean a bunch) were throwing stuff at Rocket (who was still kinda small at the time) so Groot i grabbed the bunch of kids and shoved them away since he has a soft spot for animals, and Rocket definitely tried to scratch at Groot i at first but it didn't do much since the guy is made out of bark. Little did the two know they'd become best friends ^^

In the earth-8311 universe aka Spider-Ham’s universe, Rocket isn’t a Guardian of the Galaxy and is a normal anthropomorphic raccoon born and raised on earth. Healthy childhood, loving family and all. Has a mundane job like office worker or mechanic or something. Literally the Loony-tunes cartoon animal equivalent of just some guy.

(MCU specific gotg headcanon)

After the events of 2014 movie but before infinity war, Rocket would take visits all alone to Xandar once every few months or so. Specifically, to the site where Ronan’s ship crashed to quietly mourn the first Groot. He loves Groot ii/baby Groot like a son (since, well, he pretty much is), but he still misses og Groot deeply. For a long time, a part of rocket felt like he didn’t deserve og Groot’s sacrifice because of how he generally never saw himself as worth saving/caring about. Also for the fact Rocket wasn’t as good of a friend to og Groot as he should’ve been, calling him an idiot all the time and generally pushing him away so as not to get hurt again like he did when he lost batch 89. He tries to make up for that through not only taking care of Groot ii, but also this secret mourning ritual of his.

Like imagine he just disappeared one day and everyone’s freaking bc he just dropped off the face of the earth and can’t be tracked until one day he just pops back in like, “You guys are not gonna believe what just happened to me-“

The first time Steve Rogers went to a baseball game in the future he was ecstatic to learn that the song Take Me Out to the Ballgame is still known. First written in 1908, it was extremely popular in his time (sung on an actual ball field for the first time in 1934). It became a standard 7th inning anthem in the 1970s and Steve cries tears of joy as he shout-sings along with 30,000 other New Yorkers just like he and Bucky did playing stickball in the street 75 years earlier.

Even though his default adult size when not going Kaiju mode is around 7 to 9 feet tall, Groot is actually considered small by Flora Colossus standards. This is why back when he was still living on Planet X he felt out of place Among his own kind. Apart from being sympathetic toward the small native animals that lived on Planet X and the alien test subjects Flora Colossus scientists would abduct for experimentation, Groot was also ostracised for being seen as a physical defective by his fellow saplings due to him being smaller than them.
