Chapter 5: The Spruce Blue Armor
It was just a normal, decent morning on Nevarro, except it really isn't.
Your entire body jolted yourself awake, sitting up in cold sweat after a horrible dream.
The sounds of children screaming still ringing in your ears as you cover them in panic. Frantically looking around before realizing where you are, you stared down at your feet as your eyes widen in disbelief when the dream had you focused to one particular child. You couldn't see them but you could hear their cries of help. You gulped, trying to calm your breathing, squeezing your eyes tightly, shaking the empty vision from your mind.
You frown, not wanting to remember the dream you had. Although, there's really nothing to remember about except the screams echoing in your mind. There was just darkness and you standing alone in the middle of nowhere in just your sleepwear.
As your heart starts to calm, your hearing was still muffled by your hands, so you slowly let sounds fill through your ear canals and to your ear drums. This time you could hear actual children screaming, not in fear, but with joy and in childish play. You let out a stifled gasp since you've been holding your breath. Letting yourself breathe in through your nose properly and exhaling out through your mouth. You stared down at your hands as you slowly close and tighten them.
'What the hell was that about...?' You thought.
You sighed, moving to the edge of your bed, getting ready to start your day.
...
Later in the day...
He lost the kid.
His ship is destroyed.
What's worse is that Brenmar Vowldike is alive and works along side with Moff Gideon. But before Din met the holographic image of him, Din had brought Grogu to Tython. A planet that Ashoka Tano had told him to go to. A place where a jedi could locate them.
And through Ashoka, he finally found out Grogu's name.
While in Tython, Din had encountered with Boba Fett for the first time along with Fennec Shand who he thought was dead. They had some misunderstanding but after the attack by the Imperial stormtroopers, the decision was already made to help Din rescue the child.
Unfortunately, Din lost his ship and home, the Razor Crest.
All burnt to the ground but the beskar spear he received when he was in Corvus.
And a metal ball that used to be attached to a lever in the cockpit. Which would later be one of the only play things that Grogu liked so much along side with his plushy.
Only for its arm to be ripped out of its body when Grogu got taken away by force.
Luckily, Din was able to grab what's left of the toy, feeling disheartened to see its condition, knowing that Grogu would be upset right now since he has the arm. Now it's tucked away inside the small, buttoned bag attached to his belt along with the ball.
Lastly, the beskar armor. That spruce blue armor that he'd promised you he would take care of. Feeling slightly defeated when he sees it scattered everywhere, he shook it off as he picked up each part up. Shaking the ash off of the beskar and later tying them all together and slung it over his shoulder.
His worry starts to grow with each step. Grogu is probably terrified right now and since traveling with the foundling, Din formed a strong bond with him and even considered him to be his own. His mind playing back the image of when the kid was taken away from him while one of the droids stayed behind to play a holoprojector and instead of Moff Gideon, it was Brenmar Vowldike who introduced himself to Din.
And when he first saw the man, it was with burning rage Din had felt when he found out what Vowldike wanted. Who he wanted. He had already found out about you and Din and had demanded Din to find you and return you back to him since he's a bounty hunter himself. The longer he would have to wait, the sooner he would have to send other bounty hunters after you.
Like hell Din would let that happen. However, he knew he needed to find you as soon as possible, make sure you're in a safe location. For all he know, bounty hunters are probably after you right now.
Din didn't even need to stress about where to find you because when he arrived to Nevarro with Boba and Fennec, the first thing he saw was your ship.
He'd laugh bitterly at the quick timing and for some reason, he would feel ashamed to face you and to tell you that he had broken his promise in making sure the armor was taken care of. But he reminds himself that he is a Mandalorian. And as a Mandalorian, he must face his fears and conquer them.
Din sighed as he walked down the ramp of the ship. On his way to meet with Cara first to asked about a certain person from the prison registry who can help track down the ship that Grogu was taken to.
After his talk with Cara, who is now Marshal of the New Republic, they are now walking out of the building when Cara had brought you up about how you came over to the town just a few days ago. How you decided to settle down for a bit, give yourself a break after everything you've been through and it's just as what Din had expected when he first saw your ship.
"Wouldn't you like to see her before you go?" Cara had asked when she noticed how quiet her friend is when she mentioned you. Maybe she would be willing to help.
Din took a moment, feeling hesitant but he wanted to see you so he nodded once. "Where is she?"
"Here." Cara handed over your address to Din, smirking, "I'm sure she'd be happy to see you. She talks and asks about you a lot when she first came here. She's a pretty good one." She claimed, patting him on the shoulder.
"Alright, I'll see you in a bit." She elbowed his arm teasingly before setting off, leaving him alone.
Din felt his body froze, watching Cara walk off. You were asking about him? And what the hell was that supposed to mean? He looked down at the paper, suddenly feeling nervous.
...
He continued walking, looking left to right for the right house. Realizing how much farther he needed to go, he picked up the pace as time is ticking. The kid needs him. The kid needs you.
Picking up the pace once more, his hand went over to the small bag that has the plushy when he later realize he's in front of a house. And not just any house. Your house. A pretty small comfy home, located a bit farther away from the other homes. Which seems to suit you actually.
He's hesitant however. Standing in front of the door but his hand refused to move. What's he going to say? How are you going to react once you realize Grogu's gone? Would he have to relocate you? No, you're capable of taking care of yourself, seeing how you took down that thug long ago.
He sighed, letting his shoulders fall back and telling himself to calm down. He took a deep breath and as he was going to knock,
"Din?"
His fist paused mid-air when he heard your familiar voice.
"Din, is that you?" He turned and there you are, holding two bags of groceries. Seeing that bright smile of yours seemed to ease his nerves but the thought of the kid brings it back up. And the fact that the tiredness is shown through your eyes is quite alarming to him as well. However, he's still relieved to see that you're okay.
"Hey..."
Your smile began to get smaller as your eyes fill with worry which caused Din to frown. He didn't like that look but he knew it's going to get a lot worse once he tells you the real reason why he's here.
"What are you doing here? You missed me?" You asked, grinning as you walk up to him. Din's heart skipped a beat. Of course he does, but he didn't want to admit that aloud to you.
You find yourself searching around him and he would noticed.
"Where's... the kid?" You asked, sounding sad and assuming that they must of found a Jedi and parted ways. But as your eyes met with the black visor, your heart starts to thump harder.
Din felt your eyes meet his. He'd felt speechless and drawn to you by your appearance. Despite how tired you look, you being in a simple outfit and somehow, oddly enough, his mind became elsewhere. He snapped out of it when he noticed the confused look on your face, tilting your head at him for being silent for a while. He cleared his throat, placing his hand over his small bag and you watched, raising an eyebrow.
"I need to talk to you." He finally said.
You bit your lip and nodded. Something was wrong and you can feel that sickening feeling from this morning start to reappear in your stomach.
"Inside." You simply said and he nodded, standing aside to let you pass to your door. He watched as you fumbled with your groceries to one arm, making him grab both of them for you as he mumbled 'here'. You blinked, surprised before giving him a small smile, mumbling a 'thanks' back to him. You hurryingly grabbed your keys from your pocket and opened the door to your house and waltz right in with the metal man following behind.
Once he's in, you closed the door behind him, letting him know he can set the bags on the table.
You asked if he would like something to drink in which he would decline. So you only leaned on your table next to him on his right side. You looked at him and you could tell by his shoulders by how it's slumped that he's stressed out.
You took a second before placing your hand out in front of him for him to take. He took one look at it before grabbing your hand with his gloved one, squeezing gently and tightly.
"I'm guessing you're not here to just visit me, huh? Din?" You asked, despite the worry in your voice, it would always seem to bring comfort to Din, but he reminded himself that right now isn't the time. Grogu needs you. That he knows.
So to start, he pulled out the one armed plushy from his pocket and when you first saw it, you gasped  taking it to examine the damage. If this was a different situation, Din would of chuckled when you mumbled, 'Oh no, Froggy.'  You looked at him, eyes full of questions and concerns, and Din immediately knew what you were going to ask.
"It was Gideon. He has the kid." He looked back at you, starting to get serious and then placing his hands on the sides of your arms, "He has Grogu..."
The unfamiliar name made you tilt your head slightly at him. As soon as it clicked, your eyes widen and if this was a different situation, you would of been beaming right now. Realizing that Grogu is that kid's name.
"Grogu..." you repeated, feeling your heart wrenched. Din nodded.
"—And there's someone else and he's after you." He became hesitant before continuing, "I can bring you somewhere safe if you'd like-"
Shaking your head almost aggressively, you asked calmly, a hint of anger laced in your voice, "Who?" The stern look on your face made Din pause for a moment. You gave a clear message to him that there's no way, he's sending you away to somewhere safe. Not when Grogu's in trouble, that poor lil bean you love so much.
"It's Vowldike." As soon as his name slipped out, you froze.
Your hands tighten, nearly squeezing the plush but you stopped yourself before you damage it even more. This precious plushy belonged to the kid and you wouldn't want to ruin it. You felt raging heat rise from your chest, and instead of the fear you've been having all morning, it was rage. And Din could see the flames in your eyes and how you shook with anger.
"Vowldike's alive. That no good osi'yaim never stops, does he?" You scowled. You looked down at the plushy's dark eyes which reminded you of Grogu's. The way that lil bean looked up at you with a smile on his face.
You imagined the terrified look on his face when he got taken, making you winced and closed your eyes. You unconsciously move your head down forward and onto Din's shoulder. You brought the plush to your chest and cradling it like how you would with Grogu.
He'd froze but hearing you whimper out Grogu's name with worry caused him to wrap his arms around you, pulling you to him. His left arm around your waist and his right hand on your head gently, feeling a little awkward at the new and bizarre contact he would have with anyone besides the kid. Especially with someone like you, but since you didn't pull away, and grabbing hold on to his clothing, it encouraged him to hug you even tighter. "I'll get him back."
Your eyes opened, leaning more onto his shoulder. The rage you felt at the thought of Vowldike even touching Grogu's little wrinkly head never left and hearing Din say that he'll get him back alone, brought determination.
Yes, the thought of the man you despised of scared you... But the thought of him hurting someone you cared about is even greater. If Vowldike ever lays a hand on either Grogu or Din, or both, you going to make sure you'd be the last person he would ever see before his final breath.
"You mean we'll get him back." You let out, making Din look at you to see the expression on your face. A new side of you he has never seen. Anger, determined, hatred all at once.
You're not like the you from years ago from when he first saw you. All broken and beat down by the same man who made your life hell. Or the you who smiled and showed kindness to him and Grogu not too long ago.
No. You're not those all of those things, but you're still all of them. It's what makes you who you are. Right now is the type to give those who deserves what's coming. To give them hell and make them pay.
Din's lips parted at the sight of you, not at all weirded out, but in awed at how beautiful you looked.
As of right now, you couldn't really tell what Din is thinking. When he slowly loosens his arms around you, you realized what just happened and you looked down, feeling a little embarrassed, thinking about what he thinks of you now.
You huffed, feeling that enough is enough to feel this way. You rubbed your eyes to get rid of the dried up tears before backing a few inches from him. He tilt his head as his arms fell to his sides to see the pink on your cheeks as you turned your body away to head to your room.
"What are you doing...?" His words trailed off, hearing you rustling around in your room.
"We can't waste any more time." He hears that strong, determined tone in your voice, and with the thought of bringing back the kid, he kept his head up high as he crossed his arms over his chest with his shoulders squared.
Then he hears a loud thump from your staff hitting the ground and he watched as you walked back out of the room with said weapon and a satchel sling over your shoulder. Walking towards him with confidence.
"Let's get our kid back and go wipe the smile off of that rotten, dirty hut'uun and kill him, shall we?" You said with a smirk as you walked past the Mandalorian, patting him on the shoulder. Glancing at him as you do and he would watch.
He likes this side of you. In fact, he loves it.
Also did you just said 'their' kid?

Okay it was supposed to be a funny doodle but it turned into two different drawings…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was supposed to be a drawing of when Din got blasted on the last chapter of season 1 and the whole deal with grogu just being thrown.
But as I was doing some finishing touches to make it look decent…
Tumblr media
Now my heart melted… I know it doesn’t look complete and all but it’s finished and I meant it to make it just quick. If I have more time I’ll actually clean things up and stuff.
I just wanted a wallpaper QwQ

Chapter 4: Nice to Finally Meet You
Din couldn't help feel his chest start to bubble with anger. Zenn had mentioned that he has some kind of problem back then but he didn't really give much detail. If only he knew...
"Who?" His voice stern and calm. Din didn't even realize he was rubbing circles on the back of your hand which seemed to help soothe both of your nerves.
Your face darkened, but as you look down to see your hands intertwine, it helped you a bit, squeezing your grip lightly around Din's hand and he would do the same back.
You sighed, "He was a Magistrate back at my home planet, Ateller and he's a terrible one at that. His name was Brenmar Vowldike. He used to look after my people, making sure things were going smoothly his way but it was already clear to Zenn and I that he was up to something." You glanced at Din and he continues to listen.
"He was obsessed with the idea of taking the beskar from the Mandalorians. Told the others that it should be shared amongst the citizens when he actually wanted it for himself. He was a coward though. So he sent his people, my people after Zenn's tribe." You feel Din's hand began to tighten at that, and as you were about to continue...
Your mind began to trail off and closed your eyes out of fear from a certain memory. You suddenly remembered when Vowldike had went after you personally. Ever since before you were rescued by Zenn, you remembered Vowldike's intentions of wanting you to be his. Be his woman so that you would tend to his needs like a good wife. You rejected him of course, which resulted in you having that nasty bruise in your face that day.
Luckily, Zenn was able to save the day before things got worse and you were grateful. You were glad to have continued on your training to become stronger and to continue to help those in need for so many years.
Din had noticed your uneasiness, rubbing circles on your hand again which brought you back to him. You looked at him, knowing his worry through his body actions. You smiled, reassuring him. "I'm okay."
He wasn't convinced but decided to let it go, "You don't have to continue if you don't want to."
You shook your head, "I'm okay. I just remembered the day I got rescued by Zenn." You smiled, "He helped me get away from Vowldike before things got worse." You shrugged.
"Like... what?"
"Well..." You gave a short summary of what happened that day when you got rescued. In which, Din would remember when he first saw you two a week after that happened. The memory of seeing you broken and shattered with that bruise on your cheek crossed his mind.
Oh, how he would of loved to see the life in that coward's eyes fade away and have Din be the last thing Vowldike would see before-
Din snapped out of his thoughts when you continued, "Anyway, we were able to convince the people that it was all a trick and that Vowldike was just using them. Sadly, we've lost a lot of people that day..."
He'd noticed the tone of your voice change towards the end of your sentence. "Zenn had to stay behind to kill Vowldike because we knew that that coward wouldn't stop going what he's after. Sending his hooligans after us."
You remembered when Zenn, with his helmet still on, placed his forehead on yours before you parted. You knew the significance of it, making your heart ache.
"I knew he was gone when the building collapsed due to the fire. There was no way anyone could have survived that."
There was just a moment of silence before he started, "He was a hero. Died a warrior's death." You lifted your head from Din's shoulder, looking at the black visor where his eyes should be. You could've sworn that you saw his eyes but you told yourself otherwise.
Din looked into your eyes and he could see the tears threatening to fall while you managed to give him a small smile.
"His last words to me... Find Din Djarin." You grinned, lightly nudging his shoulder with yours. "He must of trust you a lot to lead me to you. He hardly trusts anyone but me."
Din finds himself chuckling at that since he knew that he's the same with who to trust with the kid. His eyes landing in yours again. He remembered the last time he saw Zenn. He remembered the few things he had asked of him.
'Hey Din... Can I ask you a favor?'
'Whatever happens to me. I want you to look after her.'
'Find her a place where she can stay and live a peaceful life.'
'You're the only person I can trust with her.'
You tilt your head, wondering what he is thinking before staring back at the woods. You smiled when you remembered what Zenn had told you about Din. How quiet and the lack of words he would use to communicate with him. Despite that, Din is a great ally to cooperate with and to have by your side once you've earn his trust. It sends comfort throughout your body as you felt that you might have gotten Din's trust already but you didn't want to give much thought about it just yet.
Your mind began to wander back to the armor. You sighed deeply, making Din snap out of his thoughts.
You nodded, making your final decision. "There's something I need to give to you. To give back to you and your people. I'm assuming since the rain is starting to calm that you would leave soon."
Din tilt his head, looking back at the woods to see that you're right. Somehow, he felt like he shouldn't leave you. He's having that gut feeling that tells him that he should stay until you're safe. That uneasy feeling he's getting telling him that you're still in danger.
Just remembering the favor Zenn had asked him to do, but now his mind wandered back to what you said.
"What is it?" He let out.
You chew the dry skin of your lips. "A month after Zenn's passing, I've been in this ship, the Reaver, since it's all I have of him. Everything he owns, all the memories I've made with him in the past few years. All of it until I stumbled upon what seems to be what's left of Vowldike's hideout. That's where I found Zenn's armor..." You let go of Din's hand as your anger is shown through your clenched fists. Din would noticed, not saying anything else.
"It seems even through Vowldike's death, his little followers seemed to want to honor their leader's death by taking the armor off of Zenn's body and use it for whatever the hell it is that they wanted."
You closed your eyes with anger and huffed at the thought for your fallen friend. How you also thought of his fallen comrades whose armor must of also been taken.
"I've spent months searching for more, in case others were taken as well but Zenn's was the only one I could find." You placed your hands on your knees, lifting yourself up to stand. You nudge your head to the side at Din, and he would follow.
You turned to walk to your closet and opened it. Your breath shuddered as your eyes trailed down on the wooden chest. Din recognized it from earlier and he tilt his head out of curiosity and with disbelief.
He watched as your shoulders dropped, opening the chest and lifting the top up. Your fingertips trailed down the markings on the helmet as you felt your body shook. You heard heavy footsteps slowly walking up behind you but you didn't turn.
"I was so relieved to have his armor with me." The small crack in your voice nearly fail to disguise the fact that you're still grieving. However, Din understood. He looked at the helmet and few memories of him and Zenn flashed. From acquaintances to new-found friends.
"I'm sorry for your loss... He was a good man." Din placed a hand on your shoulder, squeezing gently and the warmth through his glove was comforting and familiar. "I'm glad to have met him."
Your left hand went up to touch his hand on your shoulder. "Thank you. Um... Din. If it's okay to call you that." You whispered, knowing how secretive he can be with his identity and since he's a Mandalorian himself, his creed is just as important as Zenn's.
Din has his eyes closed at the sound of your voice as you say his name which sends chills down his spine. It just sounded... so right. Before you feel the panic rising,
"Only if it's just me and you..." He whispered back. His eyes opened to look at you and watched the way your eyes lit up and your cheeks turning pink. Maybe with a hint of hope in your eyes. Maybe it's a hope for something more, Din felt.
However, there was just a moment of silent awkwardness lingering in the air, even with his hand on your shoulder and yours on top. Neither one of you let go though so both of your hands just sits on your shoulder. Din thought quickly of something to help change the mood. His eyes trailed to the top of your head which the memory of yesterday's event crossed his mind, and he couldn't help but asked, "Is... Your head okay?"
"Hm?" You looked at him confused.
He felt his cheeks warm and cleared his throat, "Um, from yesterday, when you hit your head."
It took a moment to process what he meant and you chuckled, feeling a little embarrassed, "Oh. Maker, I completely forgot about that. I can't believe you remembered that."
"Well... I just wanted to ask, it looked like it hurts a lot." He continued, letting things go with the flow.
"Of course it did! Hurt like hell, but that was yesterday! So, I'm okay. Just a little bump." You laughed, touching your head. Din chuckled at that.
"Well that's good then."
"Yea..." You smiled, placing your hand back on his that was on your shoulder. "Thank you though. For thinking of me."
He let the smile form on his face. The kind that hurts the cheeks and he replied, "Of course."
He'd felt your shoulders relaxed as if the burden has lifted from your shoulders. There was this comfortable silence now between the two of you as you both stare at each other. You may not be able to see his face or know what he's thinking but you're already in some trance with one another. Then he makes the first move. You held your breath as he reached his hand from your shoulder up slowly to place it on your cheek when-
There was shouting at a distance. Your heads turned to the direction as Din felt tensed, turning and have himself placed in front of you, protectively. The sounds of little one making cooing noises made Din glanced over to him, but once he made sure it's safe to move, he walked long strides to the child. Small hands reached up as he picked him up, looking out in the direction while closing up next to you again.
You walked to the open entrance of your ship, with the two following behind, and listened carefully. There's definitely shouting, but maybe something you didn't need to worry about.  You thought maybe it's just the townsfolk having some sort of disagreement. You turned your head to look back at Din and the little one. You smiled, "We're okay. They're just pretty loud today."
The child looked into yours with his big, bright eyes and made an 'eh' sound as he reached out to you. Your smile widen, "Hello little one." You reached your hands out to take him off of Din's arms but the bean refused.
Tilting your head, confused, "You don't want to get picked up?" You retracted your hands, only for the kid to fuss and snatch your hand to pull you closer. "Oh?"
The both of you watched as the kid pulled your hand to place his cheek on it and he closed his eyes with a sigh. You softly giggled, "D'aw..." You rubbed your thumb across his cheek. The little one's other hand grabbed Din's gloved thumb, while still having his other hand grabbed your two fingers as best as his little three fingers can. Your heart melted at the sight.
You couldn't help stop the warmth rising from your cheeks though. The way the kid has the both you and Din's finger in his grasp. You glanced up at Din, who already has his eyes on you.
You bit your lip, nervously but you also couldn't help stop the smile from forming. You noticed Din's shoulders are relaxed which gave you the impression that he seems to be enjoying this. You didn't think he would be like this at all.
"We barely met and the kid already likes you this much." Din said, amused and you grinned.
"He's a good kid."
Din chortled, looking down at the kid, "When he wants to be..."
"I bet." You giggled as the kid looked up at Din with those innocent eyes which made the mando rolled his eyes playfully.
...
It was only a matter of time when you knew that you have to leave, your heart already feeling heavy even before you thought of it. It has only been a few days and once you knew that Din is better, you've talked to him about it, in which he understood.
You had already moved your ship to where Din's ship is since you really didn't want him and the little one to walk all the way to the other side of town, in case if there are other hunters after him.
You've learned a lot of other things as to why they're being chased and you were glad you were able to help in time when they needed the help badly. You also learned that Din is on a mission to find a Jedi for the little one which surprised you since you knew a little bit about them but sadly, you couldn't help him with that.
Din was working with some things in his ship since he also plans on leaving soon, only to find himself watching you and the little one play together outside where he could see you. For once, these past few days, Din was able to relax after months of stress and running. Making sure he and the kid would stay alive. Finding bounties and making enough credits for them to live off of. With you around, it's been easier for him.
He trusts you with the kid ever since he first saw how you are with him. How caring and sweet you were towards the little womp-rat.
And now you're leaving. Which was understandable. He didn't want to drag you into his own problems. He didn't want the Imps to go after you as well. He would want you to be able to live a more peaceful life. Just as Zenn would want him to do for you, and so he did. He knew a place where you could stay.
A place in Nevarro where his old friend, Greef Karga is currently trying to make the place more suitable for the citizens. It's now free from the Imperials and it may not seem like much yet, but Karga is determined.
You had thanked Din for the offer, but you felt like there's still some things you need to do first before even thinking of a place to settle in. That was fine, too.
Din wished you luck and you knew you're going to miss the kid and possibly not see him for a long, long time so you spend a lot of time with him before you go.
Now you're standing, facing each other outside of your ship, having to have the final goodbye before you leave the planet. Deep down, you already knew you didn't want to leave but you have things you needed to do.
"Maybe when I get to go to Nevarro, you'll see me there when you get the chance?" You asked.
Din could feel the stray excitement rise but he pushed it down immediately. He gave a firm nod, "Of course."
You smiled, before a light bulb popped over your head. "Oh. Don't forget this." You turned around to grab the chest that is just sitting behind you and pulled it over to Din's side. You pat your hands together to get rid of the dirt that was left and noticed that he's just watching you.
"Wouldn't want to see it just sit there and go to waste when I can just return it to where it belongs." You made a small smile.
He felt hesitant, but appreciates that you're only doing what is right. "Thank you. I'll be sure to take care of it."
You smiled, feeling a tug of your pants and you looked down. The sight almost made you want to never leave.
The look the child gave you was just pure innocence. His large ears flatten down and his eyes big and wide. You could see big fat tears forming which seemed to make his eyes shine more like puppy eyes. How he has his hand still grasping on to your leg pant. His other arm holding on to his plushy that you had given up for him.
Your lips parted at the sight and you tilt your head to the side before bending down to pick him up. "Hey... Don't cry." You curl your pointer finger, catching the tears away from his eyes. "We'll see each other again, alright?"
You noticed his ears perking up a bit and he cooed, grabbing your chin to pull your head down and you lift your arm where you hold him so that he's at eye level with you. Then, he did the one thing you really didn't expect he would do.
He placed his forehead on yours.
You held your breath as your eyes widen at the gesture. You weren't sure if the little one knows what this means but you assumed that he might know since he's been with the Mandalorian who is still standing in front of you and watching every single interaction between the two of you, eyes widening. Although, you never really noticed.
With only just a few days of being together, the little one already shown his love for you. You beamed at the thought.
He pulled back first, smiling back before turning his head and reaching out to Din. You handed him over and Din is just really glad to have his helmet on or else you would of seen the shock still plastered on his face. He felt a tap on his barrier, making his snap out of it and gently grabbing the little one's hand from his helmet.
You huffed, "Well... I'll be on my way then. I wish you luck on your mission, Din." You nodded to him and he would do the same.
"May our paths crossed again."
.
.
.
And well, you never really expect to cross each other's paths so soon.
For when you came across the one enemy who you thought died.
And what's worse...
You found out that that bastard has gotten himself to become a part of the child's kidnapping.

Chapter 3: Comfort Under Rain
The presence of light starts to wake Din. The light seeping through the small window cracks of the ship. He grunted as he lifted his head and took a deep breath only to feel a little strained as he breathe and realized the weight on his chest. So, he looked down to see you sleeping peacefully, making him freeze in place. You had curled up against him with your hand on his chest as if you're trying to get as close to him as possible.
His right fingers would twitch a bit as he move strands of your hair from your face. You stirred a bit, making him freeze again before hovering his hand over your waist once he realized you're still asleep. The tips of his gloved fingers lightly touching the curves of your hip, afraid he'll wake you.
The ship is still and quiet yet he could hear the faint sounds of rain still pouring, making him raise an eyebrow. The rain isn't as harsh as last night which was good since he didn't want to worry about the soiled ground giving away from the amount of rain this side of town is getting. And the ship seemed to stay in place the entire night so he relaxed a bit.
You shifted a little making him turn his attention to you. The content look on your face after  what had happened hours ago. The corner of his lips twitched a bit at the sight.
Then he remembered.
He remembered how you've mistaken him for Zenn. There was only one other Mandalorian you have known, at least from what he knows so far. Him being the second Mandalorian.
And he wasn't sure why he thought of the plushy but somehow things are starting to make sense now. The only color out of all the others on that table. That one specific color, that spruce blue is the only one you seemed to be more interested in.
If his memory didn't fail him, Zenn's armor has the same shade of blue as the plushy that the little one has and his helmet shape is almost the same as Din's.
That must be who you're dreaming about. The Mandalorian he teamed up with from a few years ago.
He remembered him now.
Zenn introduced his first name to him after meeting with him a couple of times for when they end up doing bounty missions together. After some time, they ended up having to put their trust in one another.
And sometimes Zenn would mentioned you in one of their conversations. To Din, he would noticed the tone in his voice when he mentioned you. How he sounded a bit happier and less tense unlike how he usually was when Din first met him.
You were opening up to your companion and somehow the first thing you've asked of Zenn was to train you to become a better fighter. And well, he couldn't resist the determination and hope you had in your eyes.
It was no wonder you were handy with that staff of yours and with your knife throwing skills. Din would realized the familiarity of your fighting style. It's almost like Zenn's except he doesn't really use a staff so you must of came up with that on your own. Your fighting style became the the two of you combine.
And if he didn't know any better, he'd think that Zenn must of had a soft spot for you. Almost how Din would have a soft spot for the kid. Obviously, it's quite different between the two Mandalorians but otherwise, the protectiveness and bond they have are quite almost the same.
The last time he saw him was probably two years ago.
Din would wonder however. If you're by yourself, something must of happened to his old hunting partner. He wasn't sure if he should ask you about him, since he was also not sure if you remember him from when he first saw you all those years ago.
He sighed, feeling a bit conflicted with how he should go about this but then his troubled thoughts was interrupted by a wooden box falling to the ground with a loud bam followed by a childish yelp.
Startled and now alerted, Din grabbed his blaster and pointed at the direction of the sound while having his left arm wrapped around you protectively. You had also awaken to the sound, startled. As if it's already engraved to your mind, you had whipped out your knife from next to your pillow smoothly, having it in front of you. All ready to fling it at the same direction. Your right arm stretched out across Din's chest, making him glanced down, a bit surprised.
The two of you would halt your readied attack when you both noticed a small green familiar creature with large ears.
You both sighed and it's only a matter of seconds for you to realize your situation. You glanced down realizing that you're still in the arms of the Mandalorian you had given shelter to. Your right arm being stretched out so you retracted it as you tried to calm your fast beating heart down but the light pink forming on your cheeks failed to shield how flustered you are.
You cleared your throat and Din noticed, making him relax his arms back to give you some space. He mumbled 'sorry.' His face definitely warm due to his actions but he's relieved that you couldn't see his face.
However, he did secretly love the look on your face and the fact that you thought of protecting a full beskar-armored Mandalorian is the first thing that came to your mind in the face of danger.
You mumbled 's'kay' before focusing your attention back to the kid. So you scoot yourself to the edge of your makeshift bed and the child cooed.
"What were you doing over there?" You slid down from your bed. The sounds of your covered feet landing on the floor of your ship with a gentle thud. Looking at what's behind the kid as you walked, your heart skipped a beat when you realized what fell. You calmly kneeled to pick up the box and gently set it back in your closet.
The metal man behind you puts his shoes back on and starts to walk towards you.
"How did you get in there, hm?" You asked the lil bean, picking him up.
"Kid, what did I tell you about going through people's stuff?" The mando sighed, taking the kid from you. "Sorry about that."
You only smiled, "That's okay." Your nerves starting to rise when you thought of the box behind you and figured maybe you should ask him when the time's right. You were lost in thought for a minute until you caught him tilt his head at the corner of your eye. That small gesture already telling you what he's thinking.
You huffed, putting your hands together. "H-How are you feeling?" You mentally cursed yourself for stammering. You didn't need to feel so nervous all of the sudden.
You instinctively reached out to the side of his neck slowly which made Mando grab your wrist again, but this time his grip is gentle. He realized what you were going to do anyway so, he let go. "Sorry."
You shook your head, "Don't apologize. That was on me." You dropped your hand to your side.
Din would drop his shoulders and nodded slightly, replying to your question. "... I am doing much better." The smile on your face made his heart leap.
"That's good. I'll get started on making breakfast, then. Get your energy up."
You turned around to close your closet shut before looking back at him. He really couldn't say no to that look on your face so he nodded. "Let me help at least. As thanks for what you've done for us."
You purse your lips before sighing. "Alright." The child giggled. Small three fingered hands reaching out to you and you couldn't help but boop his nose, making him giggle more. The corner of your lips turn upward once again.
...
The metal man couldn't help but noticed how well-stocked you are which brings an assumption that maybe you were planning on leaving before him and the child had suddenly came into your life last night. He was starting to feel bad but then again perhaps the rain would of also prevented you from leaving.
It has been a few hours since you all ate and you are now just relaxing on your ship with your ramp opened. You sitting just at the entrance, under the roof your ship has provided you. Even though it has been raining non-stop, you still feel at peace as you watched what's in front of you.
The child is sitting next to you, now wearing his old robe, dry, clean, and free of blood, and his frog plushy tucked under his left arm. He seemed to also enjoy the ambience next to you.
You'd make random conversations with the child even though he's not at the age of speaking basic despite him being 50 years old. Some species can age differently, you thought. Though this one is only just a little babe. Your heart somehow aches for the child.
You also found out that the Mandalorian had rescued the kid and still hasn't figure out his name so you just stuck with whatever is in your mind. Little one. Lil bean. Kiddo.
Maybe not womp rat because Mando sometimes call him that.
You took a deep breath, holding it in. Breathing in the smell of rain before exhaling. Your eyes closed naturally.
Meanwhile, Din is just watching over you from the inside close by. He leans on the wall with his arms crossed, deciding to let himself relax as well as staying alert for any intruders. But most of the time, he's just watching the two of you.
For once, he has never seen the child this calm and be interested in your conversations.
It's as if the child understands how to look beyond of what's going on in front of him. To watch rain droplets hit the leaves and even listen to the sound of raindrops to the metal ramp. Watch the small puddles ripple and forming in the mud.
Even the sound of frogs ribbiting from a distance which adds to the ambience. Din had hoped that the child doesn't suddenly zoom out to find his quick snack but he's surprised to see that the little one is staying put, probably because he already has a frog of his own.
Who would've thought that rain would create such peace.
The sound of the child's yawn sort of interrupted his thoughts. You looked down at the child and softly giggled. "Sleepy? I guess it's nap time for you, then." You picked up the child along with his plushy and placing him on your hip before standing up. Then, you cradled the child in your arms and rocking him to sleep. The sweet little kiss on his wrinkly forehead made Din hold his breath for a second.
You walked over to your cot and Din watched as you tucked the child under your blankets since the rain does makes things a little chilly. You took one last look at the child before glancing up at the man. Said man looks at you with his head tilt slightly.
You let your hands fall to your side, eyes now on him. The nerves starting to rise but you kept calm. Perhaps now is your chance. You started walking back to the entrance of your ship, nudging your head to the side, "Join me?"
Din took a moment before nodding once, following you as you sat on the same spot as before and he would sit next to you where the child was, creating a few inches of space between you.
There was only a few minutes of silence between the two of you before,
"Can-"
"Were-"
You both paused, looking at each other. Your eyes blinking, realizing what happened, making you giggled into your hand. Din would find himself smiling as well.
"You first." He would say.
You look up at him, suddenly nervous again. You gulped, twiddling with your fingers before you took a deep breath. "Well... I was just about to you a question."
He nodded, putting his left leg up and rested his arm parallel to his knee. He turned his torso slightly, his shoulders now at an angle to show that he's listening. "Ask away..."
You look down at your hands. Here goes nothing. "Do... Do you happened to know a mandalorian named Zenn Gemor?"
He froze. You glanced at him as you chew your lip, waiting for his answer. Although his reaction seemed to say that maybe he does which would later be confirmed by him nodding firmly once.
"I do."
Your shoulders lifted, your heart thumping. Maybe this was the person Zenn asked you to find.
"T-Then..." He kept his eyes on you.
You look back at him, feeling a bit more confident. "You're that same Mandalorian who does bounty hunting with him? He has only ever hung out with one other whenever he bounty hunts."
Din held his breath, nodding. He let you continue.
"A-And Zenn trusted him. So I must know if you're really... Him. He even told me the name. Uh, your name." You looked at him with sad, hopeful eyes. "Before he passed."
Din frowned, his shoulders straighten, "What was the name he told you?" He asked softly.
You looked around before leaning in causing him to lean in as well, closing the space between you. You lifted your hand to cup over your lips as you whispered,
"Din Djarin."
You felt a slight tension in the air which made you really nervous. His lack of reaction made you think that maybe you've made a mistake but...
After just a few moments of silence and he decided to recall a memory from years ago,
"You were rescued by him a week before I first saw you."
You look up at him as your eyes widen. Only seeing that dark t-shaped visor of his but for him, he could see the twinkle in your eyes. The heart thumping in your chest was loud and roaring.
His breath shaking as his lifted his right hand to slightly move the strands of your hair to the side of your face and watched as your cheeks turn to a warm red hue. He set his hand down, a bit flabbergasted at what he did, but he doesn't let it show.
"You've changed since." He let out with a sigh.
You averted your eyes, a bit embarrassed, deciding that staring down at your feet is more interesting than staring at the big, tough, full-beskar armored, handsome man who is just sitting closely next to you. You closed your eyes, letting yourself be brave.
"W-Well..." You started, lifting your head up. "It has been years." You finally let go of that flustered feeling, letting yourself smile and turned to look back at him.
Din somehow knows that type of smile. That smile was sad and melancholy. He whispered, "What happened...?"
Your smile became smaller, knowing what he is referring to.
You let yourself lean comfortably on his shoulder, seeking comfort and he lets you. Somehow even though the two of you barely know each other, it already feels like you do.
Your lips trembled, your breath shaking.
"A year ago today..." You started. Din felt his heart drop.
"Zenn died in order to save me, my people, and his clan."
Din opened his hand for you to grab and you accepted. You squeezed lightly,
"All because of an evil man's greed and hatred towards us."

Chapter 4 will be posted wednesday 04/05/2023. :3
Now that announcement is out of the way…
I have another fanfic idea. Another Din Djarin x F!reader.
It’s an AU or Alternate Universe
It involves kingdoms, dragons, magic, knights.
Yea… but I’m not gonna post it anytime soon because I made a deal with myself to finish what I started before moving on to the next. Meaning lemme finish writing ‘To Give Back’ first.
What’d you think?
