I came up with a fun idea for a ftm Hal Jordan au where Hal has been male presenting for many years and all of a sudden there’s some villain who changes a persons gender at the genetic level. First of all: I am a cis gal and I don’t think I accurately depict the trans experience, but I really liked the idea and wanted to share it. Please dont put me on blast if this is unrealistic, as I also don’t know shit about DC comics. I’m not the best at writing, but here’s a little blurb:

Being a member of the Justice League meant that you would sometimes be called to join a fight without any knowledge about what the hell was happening; this was the current situation the Green Lantern Hal Jordan found himself in. As he flew around the city, he could see flashes of his peers battling a guy in a robe. But before he could join the battle, Hal was hit with a very bright light and the next thing he knew was back at the watchtower.

“Lantern, it’s good that you’re awake.” Superman said as Hal came to. Except that it wasn’t superman; at least not physically. “What happened?” He asked pointing to the other… man. “The person we were fighting… he was able to change our genetic makeup, for some reason deciding on changing genders.” He explained, motioning to his feminine body. Hal nodded, noticing the monitors he was hooked up to. “And what’s this all about?” “We’re still trying to figure that out… you got hit by the gender ray as well, yet you are still male. We are running tests to figure out why.” Superman explained. Hal nodded as he tried wrapping his brain around why his gender hadn’t changed.

Then he remembered.

Hal erupted into laughter. When he saw the shock on the other man’s face, Hal realized he needed to explain. “I’m sorry, I just remembered- god how did I forget that,” he shook his head with a light laugh before continuing. “I’m transgender. I was born a woman, so when the guy switched my genes…” Hal trailed off. Superman nodded, “thank you for sharing. Would you be alright reporting that to the rest of the league?” Superman asked. “Yeah, I don’t mind. Oh! But first: can I talk to this magic man? I have a business proposal for him.”
