Works Like Magic pt 6
We all get up and leave, everybody but me bummed about this “large” assignment we have. I look forward to having the time to explore true magic just a bit more. Damian and I walk out of class together, and as we pass through the doorway, our hands brush together. All of the sudden, my entire body feels warm, and I get slightly dizzy. I almost fall over, but Damian catches me. This just causes me to get even warmer, and my body gets tingly any place he touches me.
“Matt! Are you okay? You almost passed out! Don’t scare me like that!” Damian exclaims as he pulls me to the side of the hall and sits me down. He crouches down next to me and puts the back of his hand against my forehead. “You do feel a little warm, but not feverish. You probably just got a little over-excited about tomorrow. Here, I’ll help you up.”

Works Like Magic pt 5
“Well then,” Dr. Pangworth says, “I may actually have to come see you. I invite the class to come also, and use it as inspiration for their homework that’s due on Wednesday.” Everybody in the class groans, but Dr. Pangworth continues unaffected. “I would like everybody to write a one thousand word short story on true magic. You may take it any way you want, but it must be at least one thousand words. Class is dismissed.”

Works Like Magic
“My favorite activity is magic tricks and illusions, Dr. Pangworth. I’m actually performing tomorrow night at the Hut.” Everybody looks surprised, except for Damian, who’s been almost as excited about this as I have been since I told him. Damian beams at me and adds “Everybody should come. He’s the best magician I’ve ever seen! He even has some original material.”

Works Like Magic pt 3
It’s Friday. Thank God. I’m in creative writing – my last class of the day. It’s only 3:15. We still have another ten minutes of class. I’ll just think about Damian until the end of class. It was so cute on Wednesday when he got spaghetti sauce on himself. He just stood there so confused and embarrassed. And then we went back to his room so he could change his shirt. He took it off and I –
“Matt, what is your favorite activity?” I was rocketed back to reality by Dr. Pangworth. “Matt, are you there?” Everybody in the class is looking at me. I can feel my cheeks getting warm, and the whole class laughs at me. After the laughter subsides, Dr. Pangworth asks me one more time and I can finally answer him.

a new short story
I'm starting a new short story. this one's gonna be interesting. it's gonna be about a world where opposite gender relationships are horribly frowned upon, and where one gender is low class while the other is high. it's gonna be sci-fi ish. we'll see how it goes. tell me what you think of the idea!

Works like magic pt 2
Here's the last part of the "intro" to Works Like Magic:
For now, I’m stuck at college. Well I’m not stuck exactly. I do love what I’m learning. How couldn’t you, having my major? Learning to teach music and argue with Socrates. It’s nice. And I do have friends. My childhood friend Katie came to college with me. And while I was here, I met Damian. He’s a lot of fun, though I wish he wasn’t so oblivious. Between the two of them and my work, I’m kept pretty busy.
I guess you’re up to date enough. Welcome to my magical world.

Works Like Magic
Hey so this is the start of my first short story. As of right now, I'm calling it Works Like Magic. Tell me what you think!
Have you ever been to a magician’s show? Have you ever wanted to be able to do those tricks and illusions? What about not wanting them to be illusions?
I’m sure you have. I know I can answer yes to all of those. I’ve been practicing since I was five to be a magician. I’ve learned lots of tricks and illusions, and can perform at a professional level. But at nineteen, I still haven’t reached my goal. I still haven’t found true magic. Sure, I’ve encountered coincidences. You know, lights breaking when you look at them, something moving when you flick your hand at it. But I still want to find that place where true magic exists.

Hello World!
Hi! I'm Matt, and I started this to just share some of the songs and stories that I write along my life journey. I probably won't share an entire one at once, but bits and pieces. If enough people like it, I may post it in its completion when it's done.
