finally got my degree result today. a tad bittersweet what with things and various occurrences that have happened but it's just like. life goes on and you won't be there to see it. which is kind of your very traditional bog standard grief but it's just fucking. no wonder it's the thing everyone talks about. like i have this major thing that's happened to me and i can guess what you might have said to me when i told you but i'll never be able to know like... i'll never know the words and how you might've strung them together and if you'd have picked up my phone call or if i'd have left a voicemail and if you'd have sent me a card or a present or if you'd have cried or if it would've made your day or week or month and i will never know and you'll never know my news and it's actually just the worst thing ever. but on the bright side i have a degree

hi, can you please tell me the name of the magazine that writes obituaries for extinct species? thank you 😊🩷

hi! that specific one was from the guardian which has done a few (here's one about carp, for example) but also this edition of the earth first magazine dedicated pages 38-39 to extinction obituaries. they have more elsewhere i think (they are available to download for free). that whole edition has some lovely but exceedingly depressing articles.

“i was born in the wrong generation” well actually it appears that we’ve all been born in the same generation as medieval serfs

The last po’ouli died in an unusual nest. Too weak to perch, the brownish-greyish songbird rested in a small towel twisted into a ring. He was the last of his species, the last in fact of an entire group of finches, and occurred nowhere on Earth outside his native Hawaii. For weeks, as scientists tried to find him a mate, he had been getting sicker. The only remaining po’ouli had just one eye. Alone in the towel, alone in all the world, he closed it.
Extinction Obituary for the quiet and beautiful Hawaiian po’ouli
