We are missing out on the many comedic opportunities involving werewolf healing in Teen Wolf and also just in general. Like, you have to think sometimes it's a pain in the ass, and not to mention, it completely fucks their perception of pain and their response to it, especially with born werewolves who don't have a before/after to compare it to. Pain-scale-wise, Derek's three is the average person's ten. He has to avoid metal detectors when he can, otherwise he has to bullshit some story about surgical screws or whatever but really it's because he still has a .38 in his back where some fool got fresh at a club he was bouncing for in New York. Technically, he could've dug it out, but it's in a really awkward place for him to reach by himself and Laura always nicked his spine when she tried getting it for him and after the third time of being unable to move his legs for six hours, he just gave up and left it in there.

I was just writing my newest fic (top secret for now lol) and came to the realisation that I hadn't actually looked into what the Jeep Stiles drives looks like inside. And considering how many scenes he's in that thing I feel like I should've thought of this but what can ya do.

ANYWAY so upon some extensive googling (and car nerding out) I came to the conclusion that: a) the writers use different models of the car in different episodes (which is frustrating asf for continuity but whatever) and b) that thing is cramped as FUCK.

So the model Stiles drives is a 1980 Jeep CJ-5:

From the outside the Jeep looks super spacious (refer to photo 1) so you would assume that it has a decent amount of space at the front. However you would be wrong. Stiles' jeep is about the same size on the inside as a Jimny Jeep (e.g. small as fuck) as opposed to a Wrangler.

You may be asking: so what's the issue with all of this?

WELL. You may have noticed that the characters in TW are all grown ass tall adults and in times of crisis (such as in the show or a fic situation) they are not fitting into that thing. If we were to stick to the model that the writers say that the Jeep is in the show, the interior is small, metal and fitted with a grip bar on the passenger side.

It's important to remember that the CJ-5 is a SUV (sports utility vehicle) and was made to off-road. But as it is a Jeep it is built for sustainability not comfort, so the seats are pretty close to the metal dash.

Going back to the continuity issue that the teen wolf has with the car, I believe that due to this car's very tiny, expensive and rare nature it just wasn't meant for filming. All of the pictures I've looked at of the car in the show are actually closer to the CJ-7 model, which is bigger, more comfortable. (But similar in every way from looks to interior, the only difference being a bigger chassis.)

As you can see, this model is much closer to the car we see in picture 1 and is much easier to incorporate into a story. The CJ-7 model ran for much longer than the CJ-5 due to its practicality and therefore is much easier to find parts for etc etc. Definitely much easier for the pack to run for their lives in!

The main notes I've taken away from this research spiral (all for one scene mind you) is that Stiles' jeep is bigger than canon lets us believe. If we keep using the CJ-5 like in canon then you must take into account two things:

That due to the car's rarity (this model was only in production for 3 years) the parts are rare as fuck and therefore very expensive. Something Stiles would not be able to afford to fix or replace in any capacity without help (wink wink Derek) or extensive mechanical knowledge.

You can probably only fit two people in it (unless someone sits in the back with their knees to their chest and is perfectly okay with being cramped in for the journey). NOT practical for fic use unless you really want to drag Stiles' car lol.

So while they do use the CJ-5 in canon, they usually swap it out for the CJ-7, presumably for the reasons listed above. Idk if anyone really cares this much about car continuity in shows/fics but I thought I'd share my findings anyway.

thinking of teen wolf where everything is the same except Stiles is helping Scott get a handle on being a werewolf by subtly “training” him to do shit. During his werewolf research he went down a canine behaviour/dog training rabbit hole and went “…Wait could I?” Cut to the sneaky fuck secretly whipping out classical conditioning on his ass.

Scott is completely oblivious, he has no clue why that clicker attached to Stiles’ car keys is there - he once said in passing it was a fidget toy. Weirdly whenever he chills out, corrects himself before changing the radio station in the Jeep, or Stiles compliments Scott on sm he did, he SWEARS he hears a little clicking sound. But Stiles would never …ah shit

When he finds out Scotty is both extremely pissed but oddly impressed at the same time.

I think a lot of what makes fanfiction so magical is writers taking the time to explore tiny elements that were imagined into existence in the source material and then abandoned. It's the deep dive into that t-shirt, the forgotten gift, the nickname, the spare key, the anger they swallowed down, the trauma they supressed, the love they denied, the story that wasn't mainstream enough to make it. It's the little things getting their moment to shine and I fucking love that and I will fight for it always.
