My dear brothers and sisters, today we gather once again in the spirit of Advent, eagerly awaiting the arrival of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As we light the fifth candle of Advent, we are reminded of the importance of preparation, both in our hearts and in our lives.
The fifth candle of Advent represents the final week of Advent, a time of great anticipation and excitement as we draw closer to the birth of our Lord. It is also a time to reflect on the virtues of faith, hope, and love, which are represented by the first three candles, as well as the themes of joy and peace, which are represented by the fourth and fifth candles.
As we light this fifth candle, let us remember the words of the prophet Isaiah, who proclaimed, "The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone" (Isaiah 9:2). Let us also remember that Jesus is the light of the world, and that through him we are able to find our way out of the darkness of sin and into the light of salvation.
In lighting this fifth candle, we are called to renew our commitment to Christ, to deepen our faith, and to share the hope and joy of the Gospel with all those around us. Let us also pray for the peace that Christ brings, both in our hearts and in the world around us.
As we light this fifth candle of Advent, let us remember that we are not alone on this journey. We are surrounded by a community of believers who share our faith, our hope, and our love. Together, let us continue to prepare for the coming of our Lord, and let us look forward to the day when we will celebrate his birth with joy and gratitude.
May the light of this fifth candle fill our hearts with hope and joy, and may it guide us on our journey towards the newborn King. Amen.

December 4, 2023 Monday of the First Week of Advent
Matthew 8:5–11 When Jesus entered Capernaum, a centurion approached him and appealed to him, saying, “Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, suffering dreadfully.” He said to him, “I will come and cure him.” The centurion said in reply, “Lord, I am not worthy to have you enter under my roof; only say the word and my servant will be healed. For I too am a man subject to authority, with soldiers subject to me. And I say to one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come here,’ and he comes; and to my slave, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.” When Jesus heard this, he was amazed and said to those following him, “Amen, I say to you, in no one in Israel have I found such faith. I say to you, many will come from the east and the west, and will recline with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob at the banquet in the Kingdom of heaven.” In today's Gospel, a Roman centurion approaches Jesus and tells him that his servant is lying at home paralyzed and suffering terribly. He admits that he is not worthy to have Jesus enter his home, but he believes that if Jesus simply says the word, his servant will be healed. To an outsider, this request may seem impossible, as the centurion is asking for a remote healing with just a word. However, the centurion has faith and trusts that Jesus can perform this miracle. Søren Kierkegaard once defined faith as "a passion for the impossible." This does not mean that God is opposed to reason or that he wants us to be unrealistic. Rather, he wants us to use our powers of imagination and analysis while also having faith in what reason cannot see. The centurion's faith was so strong that Jesus praised him, saying, "I have not found such faith in anyone in Israel."

Recent research has confirmed that the brain functions differently during a video call than in an in-person conversation. While a face-to-face conversation involves a complex system of neurological activity, the same is not true for a video call, where the neural signaling is significantly less. This suggests that there is a fundamental difference in the way our brain processes social cues and information during online conversations.
The study found that people's eyes lingered longer on real faces than online representations. Additionally, the brains of two people were more coordinated during in-person interaction as opposed to video calls. This indicates that the social systems of the human brain are more active during real-life encounters, compared to online communication systems like Zoom, which appear to be impoverished in comparison.
The lead author of the study, Professor Joy Hirsch from Yale, said that the study's findings are robust and significant. She added that even though technology companies are developing new ways for remote communication, face-to-face encounters are still very important.
The study suggests that online representations of faces do not have the same access to social neural circuitry in the brain that real-life encounters do. This is a surprising finding as current models suggest that the brain processes people's faces in the same way whether they are on Zoom or in real life. The research implies that the lack of in-person interaction has a significant impact on social cues and information that the brain processes.

Dos and Don't for an Interview
Hey everyone! If you're preparing for a job interview, there are a few dos and don'ts you should keep in mind.
Do: - Research the company and the position you're applying for. - Dress appropriately for the interview. - Practice your answers to common interview questions. - Bring a copy of your resume and any other relevant documents. - Be on time or even a few minutes early.
Don't: - Show up unprepared or without doing any research. - Dress too casually or inappropriately for the workplace. - Ramble on during the interview or give vague answers. - Badmouth your previous employer or coworkers. - Be late or cancel at the last minute without a valid reason. Remember, an interview is your chance to make a great first impression and show your potential employer why you're the right fit for the job. Good luck!
