In art, "abstract" means: Having an intellectual and affective artistic content that depends solely on intrinsic form rather than on narrative content or pictorial representation. That means an abstract painting is not depicting a Real Thing and instead takes form as shape, line, color, etc. If it looks like a Thing it's stylized or abstracted, not abstract.
ABSTRACT:
Robert Delaunay

Jackson Pollock

Notice how the forms are not depicting Things. It's just paint splatters and shapes and colors doing all the heavy lifting.
NOT ABSTRACT:

Picasso

Franz Marc
Note how the non-abstract paintings still can have abstract elements, such as the swooping shapes accompanying the animals in Marc's piece, but since the art depict objects meant to reference the real world, they aren't considered an abstract painting.
#art#abstract#this has been your petulant nitpick of the day#I went to art school so you don't have to#franz marc#jackson pollock#fuck picasso actually he sucks#Robert Delaunay

Why did it take me so long to see Monkey Man?! Delightful!! And surprisingly queer!! Very relevant and really fun to watch, I thought it kicked ass.
Seriously, this movie rules: it's got great cinematography, class war, strength training at a trans commune, mutual aid, monkey masks, and Dev Patel stabs a man with his teeth! IT WAS FUN
There's this one part where the camera is momentarily 1st person as Monkey Man is jumping down a flight of stairs kicking a guy, but then as he's fighting another guy the camera gets knocked OUT of 1st person and back into 3rd person and it happens so organically and fluidly I was floored
#it was like Class War John Wick#Dev Patel#Monkey Man#he REALLY wanted to make this movie and you can tell#it was really good

IT'S FINALLY HERE!! My super secret ultra awesome project I've been teasing about! I was contacted by Gitkin, one of my favorite musicians, to make a music video for his new single Luna Y Sol. I shot all the stop motion and painting footage and he edited it together, and I'm SO stoked for this project! Enjoy!!

Of shattered glass…
//Gem shards, scattered like warding salt. Would you like to light a candle? Offer a prayer before the profane altar?
The gems cut through the soles of your shoes -- accidental blood offering, to an absent father.
Turn with me, dance among the gems, spell casting as we go.
Your prayer, a Molotov,
The gems raining down, their tinkle a chorus.
Let us fall in this decaying place, lungs raw from the roaring scream, soles marked by our personal stigmata.
Recovering as we share a single ember, the sky turning pink.
Remember, in case of emergency: Break Glass//

I have been carrying this concept since college… I never was sure how I would make it happen. At the time I was just using markers… so had some limits there.
I am honestly very happy with how it has developed into a light study. I love exploring personal rage self reflection with Crowbar. They are made of sharp edges and a hand rolled cigarette at a house show.
They are perfect for a pseudo-reflection into religious trauma. I was not raised in an Abrahamic household, but I live in a nation saturated in it. This leads to uniquely specific iconography lexicon. I do not follow the source material, but do get to absorb a lot of the fandom culture (re: Renaissance)

[yes, she is judging you]

"Grips" 8"x10"
Charcoal, soft pastel, and acrylic on canvas
I had frantic energy to channel and a canvas to receive it. I came to grips in a wild way and wrangled the piece into the world.
