I’m sorry I kinda dropped off the face of the planet. I’m working on my mental health and getting help. I hurt my legs to the point where I actually called the doctor. I’m getting ready to go back to school, and I’m working on an important writing project that’s due in about a month. Hopefully once some of the craziness calms down a bit I’ll be able to get on here more

I'm sorry I've written and deleted like 6 posts about this over the last 2 days and I just really can't be silent. Its shocking and so disheartening to see the buzz about Cyberpunk 2077 and epilepsy die down this quickly because they're changing the warning.

I understand that a lot of people don't understand the level of impact your response has for both the gaming industry and photosensitive epileptics. This is not the same as a content warning for triggers or anything like that.

Imagine if the colour purple could kill you if you looked at it. Not everyone has that risk, but purple attracts EVERYONES attention so while some people could die, most people will just see it. And its cheap to add pure effects in media but gives it a cool vibe. So everything starts using purple

In October and December multiple houses on your street are covered in purple. Its rare to see a cyclist without purple on them. Even social media isn't safe because no one tags their purple. You start getting terrified to go anywhere ever because there's just SO MUCH PURPLE! You try to tell people about it but then if you're lucky they'll give you a purple warning. If not they'll tell you about how you shouldn't ruin someone's "artistic vision" and "just look away if its a problem"

How do you stop being afraid if you are constantly putting your life in the hands of your ability to "look away" at a moments notice?

If you are not photosensitive, you do not get to accept the half assed apologies and watered down warnings that companies give out only after they've been told off

You don't get to say "oh well they put a warning" or "They said they were sorry on a single reply on twitter"

Especially not if the media in question is marketed towards children.

I'm tired of y'all kissing up to some mega corporation for putting out some watered down bullshit to keep the lawyers happy just because y'all care about a movie or a video game more than you do actual disabled people

Day 2 with my new skateboard

I rode my new skateboard for the first time today. The quality difference is incredible. It turns so much easier and rides so much smoother. The trucks are high enough that I can’t actually scrape my deck against my wheels.

I’m thinking of riding it to work tomorrow.

Honestly the thing that has me ANGRIEST about all this Cyberpunk 2077 stuff is NOT the fact that they included the kind of flashing lights used by nurologists to actively trigger seizures as part of an evaluation.

It's not the people sending videos with flashing lights as a means of punishing those who speak out.

No, those have become regular every day occurrences for us.

It's the people acting as though the rage of disabled people is uncalled for. I'm SORRY if this is the FIRST TIME you've heard about media using extreme flashing lights. But how is YOUR IGNORANCE our fault? OF COURSE we're gonna be using hyperbole here!

Do I think that the developers sat down and went "How can we kill disabled people?" No. I don't think they did. Were they absolutly 100% aware of the potential consequences of their actions and still went ahead with them? OF COURSE THEY WERE!!!

"Flashing Lights Causes Seizures" is NOT news!!! We've known about it for DECADES! Yet they still went ahead and made this game with those features. So YES I think we're WELL within our rights to claim that this was a deliberate attempt to cause seizures, because there is no ignorance here. It's apathy. They decided that their Aesthetic was worth more than the lives of photosensitive people because, yes, seizures can kill you. All it takes is one fall and a fractured skull and that's IT!

And a reminder: Lots of people are not aware of their seizure threshold until they're waking up in hospital.

If minorities are angry, maybe remember that they have a REASON to be and don't belittle us with your holier than thou attitude.

I know I’m the clingy friend. I’m aware of it.

I try not to be needy, but I am.

I have built my support system almost entirely outside of my home, because somewhere along the lines I got the message that I couldn’t trust my family with that. And sometimes, like Frodo, I get so weighed down by the darkness I bear, that I need someone to carry me.

But also I work very hard to be the Sam, I need, for others. And sometimes, it seems like a lot lately, when I’m having a horrible Frodo day, I’m being Sam for somebody else
