questions of why
why do you hate women?
she asked serious indignant
all moral pose
I looked around
looked at the citing the words
thinking I don’t hate all women just you
instead I said
I hate how women hate women
they hate how other women
speak eat gesticulate look
their hair how they dress
take their place in the world
where I don’t care about any of that
I care about what they do
their kindnesses who they are
it’s you who judge women
but she wasn’t hearing
these kind of people never do
you’re hoping I trap myself
say something you can misconstrue
as misogyny make your point for you
how you are with me now is how you are
not just with women but everybody in the world
she couldn’t listen take that in
I was a wrong’un in her eyes
& nothing would ever convince otherwise
she wasn’t here to discuss
she was here to win
