‘’No one has ever loved me. I'll die a virgin’’. That's Atsumu's first thought. Every day. Atsumu turned 23 a few weeks ago and yet, despite the fun and excitement, Atsumu is depressed.

His birthday was the happiest moment of his life. He spent it with his twin and their friends - Osamu's friends - and had a lot of fun. But now that Atsumu has become a professional player and Osamu has his own family and business, it's a completely different story.

Atsumu also had fun this year. Only thanks to Shōyō, who had forced all the JNTs and Jackals to get together for lunch on a Sunday. A week after his birthday. Nothing huge, but for Atsumu, seeing people get together "for him" was enough. So he made the most of the moment.

But then everyone left. Shōyō to see Tobio in a "private place" after only three glasses of wine. Bokuto to join Akashi as his office time was over. And basically, the whole table was gone in a second to join their ‘’better halves’’.

Everyone except Atsumu, who was still sitting at his birthday table like an idiot. Since that day, he'd realized how unimportant he was. That he had always been a second choice, an option. On the evening of his 23rd birthday, Atsumu cried and fought the urge to call his twin.

But the hardest part for Atsumu was seeing everyone leave to join their lovers. Atsumu had a problem. Atsumu was a virgin. On every level. He'd never kissed anyone. He'd never held anyone's hand. He'd never had a "study date" with anyone. And most importantly, he'd never had sex.

And Atsumu used to be fine with it, thinking that his time will come, eventually. But as the years go by, the bachelors disappear and Atsumu becomes increasingly depressed, imagining himself already old, full of wrinkles and surrounded by cats and dogs.

To say that Atsumu was sad was an understatement. Atsumu was legitimately depressed when he thought about it. So, on this cold autumn morning, as he prepared to go for a run, Atsumu decided to stop thinking about it and wait - really wait - for it to come. On its own.

Days passed. Weeks passed and weeks turned into months. Time and again, Atsumu thought that maybe the flirt was real and this was his chance, finally. But it was never the case. During a training session, one of the last before the Olympic qualifiers, Atsumu is at his lowest.

Shōyō tried to cheer him up, but what could he do? Tell him he understood when he'd probably given Tobio his virginity in their senior year in a locker room? No, no one could understand him. Atsumu was desperate.

warm hoodie, cold day

the thermodynamic equilibrium tkkg hc with Tsukishima “I am about to freeze to death” Kei and Kageyama “It’s like a furnace in here” Tobio)

Kei has always had one of those shoe dryer things but he uses it as a sock warmer when it’s cold (according to him it’s always cold).

When they live together, it takes months for Kageyama to realize what it is cuz he just never needs it.

Also once they live together, there is one day where it /is/ actually cold and Tobio is busy during the day so he isn’t available to snuggle in bed (read: have Kei put his icy feet on Tobio’s thighs).

So Tobio spends the morning in one of Kei’s hoodies (unusual for him to do since they’re just a bit too snug around his shoulders and he doesn’t like that) and just before he leaves the apartment he takes it off and tosses it at Kei.

Instead of a goodbye for the afternoon, Kei gets “Put this on, I’ll be back around 6.” the ‘Keep warm til then’ isn’t spoken but he hears it clearly anyway.

The warmth of the hoodie wears off well before Tobio returns but Kei spends the rest of the day feeling warm from the inside out anyway.

If Kei starts buying his hoodies a bit too wide for himself to encourage Tobio to keep doing this, he doesn’t point it out. It’s such a small change that Tobio would never notice.

And Kei is right, for a little while. It takes until the next “cold” day for Tobio to notice the new blue hoodie on Kei’s side of the closet, the fabric a little thinner and the shoulders not pinching when Tobio slips it over his head.

Today isn’t a day he would describe as chilly but he knows Kei disagrees. He sees the blond burrowed into their blankets out of the corner of his eye, only a few curls sticking out. He’d go bother him but he knows Kei would just sleepily demand snuggles. He also knows he’s too weak to deny Kei anything, especially when he’s all tired and mumbly, so he quietly slips out of their bedroom instead.

He’s making brunch for them when Kei slowly makes his way to the kitchen, still wrapped in a blanket, blinking the sleep out of his eyes.

They eat together and Kei compliments Tobio’s cooking. He always does, insisting that after the pros Tobio should be a chef. It never fails to make Tobio blush, a sight that makes the last of Kei’s sleepiness fall away as they smile stupidly at one another.

The peace breaks when they both stand up, Tobio to run errands and Kei to wash the dishes.

“Groceries?” Kei asks.

Tobio nods. “And returning this to Yachi.” he holds up a photography book.

“Isn’t that Yamaguchi’s?”

Tobio shrugs. “Oh wait!” He grabs Kei’s shoulder, turning him away from the counter. “Before you get your hands wet,” he says softly as he slips the hoodie off. “Here.”

“This is a little too nice for a dishrag,” Tsukishima deadpans, holding the hoodie.

“Very funny,” Kageyama says in a way that suggests Tsukishima isn’t funny at all. “Put it on. I’ll be back in an hour or two, okay?”

“Okay,” Kei responds, a smile breaking through at the last second.

He expects Tobio to be putting on his shoes when he gets the hoodie on but instead he gets a peck on the cheek as soon as his head pops out. “Wha-”

“Bye! Love you!” Tobio says brightly before he rushes out the door.

Kei is bright red as he turns back to the sink. Once he collects himself, he mumbles “Love you too,” to the soapy bowl in his hand.

The next time Tobio grabs one of Kei’s hoodies, there are a bunch of brand new ones with shoulders slightly too wide for Kei himself. Tobio pulls one out and pretends he doesn’t notice.
