Talismans and Amulets: The Pentacle
Tumblr media
A pentacle is a five-pointed star enclosed within a circle. A pentagram is a five pointed star WITHOUT a circle. Only a very slight difference.
It is a commonly used talisman for protection, strength, elemental work, spirit work, connection to the divine, and more. Each point represents one of the five elements, starting with spirit at the top, then moving right we have Air, then down one is Fire, next is Earth, and then Water to the left.
It acts as a balancer of forces and energies, where the level of domain of the spirits around the elements of nature is reflected.
The earliest documents that depict the pentacle symbol are the Heptameron and the Key of Solomon.
Heptameron is a French collection of 72 short stories that mention the pentacle in one place. On the other hand, the 15th Century grimoire called the Key of Solomon shows dozen of pentacles throughout the text.
The pentacle symbol has been around since the Stone Age. It is amongst the few ancient symbols that are still highly popular today. Over the course of history, it has been used in religion, art, architecture, fashion, and more. However, the meaning and interpretation of this symbol vary significantly.
Some groups associate it with divinity, whereas others believe that it represents evil spirits and dark forces because it is the symbol of choice for witchcraft and magic. To further add to that confusion, there’s a misunderstanding between the ‘pentacle’ and the ‘pentagram’ symbols, and whether they represent different things or are one and the same instead.
The pentacle symbol has been revered by almost all the ancient civilizations, be it the Greeks, Egyptians, Chinese, Indians, Babylonians, or even Mayans.
It holds different layers of symbolism. The pentacle symbol is viewed as a sign of love, life, light, unity, enlightenment, and a quest for divine knowledge.
Although it has become associated with magic and witchcraft in modern culture, in the past it was actually used for protection against demons, evil spirits, and similar bad forces.
The five corners of the pentacle symbol are said to represent the five senses:
Sense of sight Sense of sound Sense of smell Sense of taste Sense of touch
In early Christianity, the pentagon at the center of the pentacle symbol was used to denote the five wounds sustained by Jesus during his crucifixion.
In Taoism, or Daoism, a Chinese philosophical approach to life, the five points of the pentacle symbol stand for the five elements of the East. These are:
Wood Water Fire Earth Metal
Some scholars also say that the star-shaped symbol is closely related to ancient astrology. Its five corners are said to denote the five brightest planets that were discovered a very long time ago, as they can be easily seen in the night sky by the naked eye without the aid of telescopes and other modern equipment.
These planets include:
Mercury Venus Mars Jupiter Saturn

Amulets and Talismans: The Triskellion/Treskele
Tumblr media
Many historians will attest to the fact that the Triskelion or Celtic Triskele is the oldest symbol of spirituality. In fact, it is said to be one of the oldest symbols on earth.
The word itself derives from the Greek word ‘Triskeles’, which means ‘three legs’. The earliest recognition of the symbol dates back to Neolithic times.
This is reflected in its etching at the entrance of one of the most famous ancient sites in Ireland, the 5,000-year-old Newgrange Passage Tomb in the Boyne Valley. The Triskele is of Celtic origin and gained popularity within Celtic culture from 500 BC onwards.
It is one of the most convoluted symbols to uncover as it reflects many different cultural areas around the world. Furthermore, history often changes little by little with time, which doesn’t help the confusion!
The Triskelion is a complex Celtic symbol with ancient origins. The most common representation of the symbol is that it represents three, as it depicts three interlocked spirals. This is much like the ancient Celtic Trinity Knot, which also denotes three.
In Celtic culture, it is a common idea that everything important in life comes in threes. The Celtic spiral symbol itself has three clockwise spirals, all of which connect in the middle.
The way the three arms of the symbol are positioned is said to represent motion, as they appear to be moving outwards from the centre.
In turn, the idea of motion or movement signifies energy, in particular with actions, cycles of life, progress, revolution, and competition.
The meaning of the Triskelion revolves around movement, energy, and cycles in life. In turn, this progress and movement present the ability to move forward and overcome adversity, which involves makes it one of the main symbols for strength. It can also represent the three realms: The Spirit World, The Physical World, and the Celestial World.
Uses:
Strength overcoming adversity Life cycles, so it goes. meditation symbol

Baneful magic ingredients and their correspondences
I got a LOT of these from @afledglings-guideto-witchcraft when they answered an ask I sent in, that blog is a fantastic place for information whether you've been practicing a few days or a few years imo.
I've been posting a lot about trying to find information on this subject and now I've gotten a good list compiled in a google doc and figured I'd share it with y'all, feel free to add on your own notes or just any commentary you have or experiences you've had using certain ingredients. I'm using some of these to make a hex jar to try and help a friend out with a shitty abusive household, which I might post more about if y'all would be interested in it, or if I just feel up to it.
Black pepper: bad luck, punishing negative energies
Pickle juice: to bring sourness
Broken glass: cutting ties, warding off negative energies, pain
Black salt: banishment
Thumb tacks: pain and suffering
Rotten tea/anything moldy: for detriment on their life
Hot peppers: pain, irritation, burning, anger
Garlic: disgust and repulsion
Dead matches: to drain energy
Salt: to intensify wounds, to sting, to keep someone away
Mustard seed: strife and discord
Onion: breaking relationships/habits/etc, strife
Lemons: causing pain (think lemon juice on a cut), souring a relationship, or any good luck the target has been receiving lately.
Rusty Nails: can be stabbed into lemons, or added to sour jars/hex jars. Pins the hex/curse to the target.
Vinegar: souring, dissolves relationships
Poppyseed: intoxication and confusion
Alum: stops communication/speech.
Small pickles: male impotency
Beet pickles: female hormonal problems
Thick mud: darkness, suffocation, feeling trapped
Feces/urine: to make their life nasty
Black candle wax or strings: binds the curse to the target
Coffee: insomnia
Tea: lethargy/oversleeping
Gravel: Being crushed and stepped on by life and the people around you
Don't ever let anyone tell you you are a bad person or you're going to get hurt if you practice baneful magic at all no matter what. The threefold law is a rule that Wiccans follow, no one else is obligated to believe in it, I respect people who believe in it and they should respect people who don't. Always make sure to judge a situation very carefully and use this magic appropriately.
And, very very important, research on how to protect yourself from a spell backfiring (because you can get hurt), make sure that your intention is very focused on your specific target(s), and, if you're doing something similar to what I'm doing, do something (protection jars, spells, etc) to protect other people around this person or people from the effects of the jinx, hex, or curse. Oh and if you're casting a spell on someone else who practices witchcraft, make sure you know the signs if they deflect the spell back onto you and try and do what you can to prevent that from happening.

Crystals and their baneful uses
Crystals are used in lots of light magick (which I will explain in a later post) but I never see true baneful uses for crystals anywhere. As with all baneful magick, protect yourself before doing anything and happy cursing!
Ruby: focuses intent on target
Clear quartz: an amplifier as well as an energy holder
Onyx: can be used to break apart relationships
Amethyst: can cause self destruction
Garnet: a personal favorite of mine. It sucks the energy of the person you give it to
Diopside: the truth telling and justice rock as I call it, it will reveal the true colors of the target.
Bloodstone: when given intention, it can suck the life force from your enemies. Pair with clear quartz and give the bloodstone to your target
Opal: can intensify and radiate negativity
Carnelian agate: can cause physical pain to the target with correct intent

Imbolc Spread
Here is a simple four card spread that you can do to welcome the changing of seasons!
Tumblr media
Imbolc marks the halfway point between winter and summer, and is the perfect time to prepare for the coming spring. Read more about Imbolc here.
Past: What can you learn from the past season? Winter can be rough for some people, maybe you were put through the wringer this past season too. What is something you can glean from this experience so that you can learn from this?
Present: What energy do you need to bring into this next season? It’s important to learn from the past and plan for the future, but make sure you are able to stay present and grounded even as the weather is bleak. So, what energy should you bring with you into this changing of seasons that can help you to learn, prepare, and pursue what you need to?
Prepare: Anything you would need to prepare for this coming season? This is the time of the year that farmers and gardeners start to prep their lands and plant their seeds for the spring; what is something you can prepare for that you will need to grow or nurture in the springtime?
Pursue: What is something you need to pursue during this time? This could be a goal that you set earlier this year but you have yet to follow through on, is this something you could be pursuing now, during this halfway between winter and spring?
I haven't done this exact spread yet, I plan to do it the day of Imbolc. I'll share my experience with it if I feel like it's ok to share :)
Let me know if you try out this spread, I would love to know how you feel about it!!!

7-Day Spell Crafting Practice
New to spell crafting? Trying to learn how to create spells but don't know where to start or what to do? Try this 7-Day spell crafting practice!
Tumblr media
Originally this was posted in response to an ask but I felt like it'd be good to give it a post of its own~
Why…
are you doing the spell?
Who…
is it for?
is needed? (Other people, deities, spirits, etc)
What…
ingredients will you need?
vessel or objects are needed for the spell?
When…
is the spell going to take place?
Where…
will the spell take place?
will you dispose of the remains (if needed)?
will you place the vessel (if applicable)?
How…
will you anchor or contain the spell?
power it?
And Finally...
On the last day put it all together and either do the spell or don't. This is practice for spell creation, not necessarily spell casting, it's to get you in the habit of researching and writing down your magical workings. You can actually cast the spell if you'd like, just remember to record your results!

MY ROOM CLEANSING SPRAY RECIPE!
Tumblr media
Ingredients
Rain water or moon water
One drop of rosemary essential oil
Two drops of lemon essential oil
One drop of peppermint essential oil
One drop of lavender essential oil
An empty cleansed mistime spray bottle
NOTE: make sure you get a decent sized spray bottle, not a super tiny one because you need enough space for a good amount of water for the oils to evenly disperse in! You don’t want too little water and too much essential oil! If you need to, cut down on the oil drops you’re putting into it if it’s a slightly smaller bottle than the one shown in my picture.

🌙WORKING WITH A PENDULUM🌙
I've been getting some questions about pendulums, so here is some info!
Finding your pendulum:
You can find a pendulum online or at a metaphysical shop or you can even have it gifted to you. Choose your pendulum wisely, one that speaks out to you & sticks out more than the rest. It will call to you.
Connecting with your pendulum:
Once you bring your pendulum home it's time to connect with it. You can do this by putting it under your pillow at night and/or carry it in your wallet or purse. Your pendulum needs to get to know you better & understand your energy (same with tarot, runes & other divination tools)
How to use a pendulum:
The pendulum is best for "yes" and "no" questions. Always cleanse it before use. Ask your pendulum "what is yes" and it will move in the direction of yes, then ask "what is no" and it will move in the direction of no. The pendulum moving in another direction that isn't yes or no usually means "I don't know" or an unknown answer. Not all pendulums are the same with they're answers, that's why it's important to ask! You can also write down which direction is which you don't have to ask every time. When you ask your question, the pendulum will move in the direction of the answer. It may take a few seconds so don't rush. Write down what your answers are, this could help in the future. When your finished, thank the pendulum for the answers it gave you. Keep it in a safe bag or box. Every so often if you aren't using your pendulum it's still important to cleanse it! Same with tarot cards or rune stones!
Extra info:
You can use a needle and thread to make a pendulum!
The best crystal choices for a pendulum I would recommend are: amethyst & rose quartz.

Full Moon In Cancer Tarot Spread
Here's your spread for the full moon! Below is some informational astrological details, if you are interested.
Tumblr media
Cancer full moons typically indicate an emotional time. With us being in Capricorn season, it is about finding the balance between the emotional and the practical. Our intuition is heightened, thanks to the super-psychic water sign taking the center stage. Work with any psychic abilities, if you wish, and you shall see them strengthened. Perhaps you will even want to do spellwork surrounding it. Anyways, this is also a big time for reflection and emotional healing. This moon is also bringing us the clarity we so desperately need.
We have oppositions between Mercury, which is currently in retrograde (although this will end before my new moon post!), and Uranus (also retrograde). It's a definite sign to release ALL baggage before we really dig into 2023! There may be lingering confusion, but it can be seen through. Comfort will be our friend today and if you're doing the deep heavy work, surround yourself with things that will ground & nurture you, objects that make you feel safe.
I didn't have time this week to write up my usual full moon spells, but an emotional releasing ritual may be due to help you feel more balanced & start this year off on the right foot. Other spell work: divination, clarity, psychic development, cord cutting, shadow work, and emotional releasing/healing.
