Do you think the people who design modern sewing machines in plastic cases ever feel insignificant because of it? knowing that they're making machines with the lifespan of a dog when they could (if they'd been born a few generations earlier) be making machines with the lifespan of a Galapagos tortoise?

Beneath My Hands by Leonard Cohen
Beneath my hands your small breasts are the upturned bellies of breathing fallen sparrows. Wherever you move I hear the sounds of closing wings of falling wings. I am speechless because you have fallen beside me because your eyelashes are the spines of tiny fragile animals. I dread the time when your mouth begins to call me hunter. When you call me close to tell me your body is not beautiful I want to summon the eyes and hidden mouths of stone and light and water to testify against you. I want them to surrender before you the trembling rhyme of your face from their deep caskets. When you call me close to tell me your body is not beautiful I want my body and my hands to be pools for your looking and laughing.

Homework: diagnosis of fictional character: There Will Be Blood
Daniel Plainview is a 60 year old, unmarried, white male. He has a history of a highly competitive and aggressive nature. He has been manipulative with business dealings and will effortlessly lie to others to accomplish his business goals. His only family is an adopted son, who while Daniel seems to have been emotionally close to when his son was a child, becomes distant when his son is older. His son had also sustained a life-changing accident and was rendered deaf at the age of 12, and Daniel was never able to fully accept the implications of his son’s deafness. Additionally, when his son grew up and become involved in the same professional field, Daniel came to see him as a competitor and rejects him emotionally. Daniel freely admits that he used his son as a form of manipulation towards others in business dealings because he wanted to appear a trustworthy “family man”
Daniel also exhibits a deep seated distrust and suspicion and dislike of other people. Saying that he looks at other people and doesn’t see anything worth liking. He also states that he has a “deep completion in me, I want no one else to succeed” His hostility towards his business rivals has led to inappropriate outburst of hostility towards others, including physical altercations.
When felt manipulated himself by a man claiming to be his brother, and who he had opened up to emotionally, Daniel immediate murdered the man, who had posed no threat to him. Later Daniel also murdered another rival after a prolonged session of humiliating that rival verbally.
Daniel currently exhibits signs of heavy alcohol use and is drinking almost continuously during his waking hours. He is socially isolated, living alone with only hired help around him.
Primary Diagnosis:
Antisocial Personality Disorder (ASPD) – DSM-5-TR 301.7 (F60.2)
Daniel meets the criteria for ASPD, which includes:
A pervasive pattern of disregard for and violation of the rights of others, occurring since age 15, as indicated by:
Deceitfulness (manipulating others, lying for gain)
Impulsivity and aggressiveness (physical altercations)
Lack of remorse (cold use of others, including his son, and murder without apparent guilt)
Evidence of conduct disorder before age 15 is implied by his aggressive, competitive nature and lack of empathy.
His behaviors are not exclusively during the course of schizophrenia or bipolar disorder.
Additional (Provisional) Diagnosis:
Alcohol Use Disorder, Severe – DSM-5-TR 303.90 (F10.20)
Current heavy alcohol use nearly every waking hour.
Likely meets multiple criteria: tolerance, withdrawal, unsuccessful attempts to cut down, continued use despite social and occupational impairment, and use in hazardous situations.
Consider Rule-Outs / Differential Diagnoses:
Narcissistic Personality Disorder (301.81): Some traits (grandiosity, exploitation of others, lack of empathy) are present, but overall presentation is more consistent with ASPD due to impulsivity, aggression, and overt criminality.
Paranoid Personality Disorder (301.0): He exhibits marked distrust and suspicion, but this is better understood as a facet of his antisocial traits rather than a standalone diagnosis.
Borderline Personality Disorder (301.83): No evidence of affective instability, abandonment fears, or identity disturbance; unlikely.
Summary:
Daniel Plainview’s presentation is most consistent with:
Antisocial Personality Disorder (F60.2)
Alcohol Use Disorder, Severe (F10.20)
His pervasive disregard for others, emotional detachment, aggressive manipulation, and recent decline into substance use and isolation paint a clear clinical picture.

For my birthday my friends gave me a pair of bolt cutters. Do I *need* bolt cutters? No, I do not, did I really want a pair of bolt cutters because of their symbolism of liberation? Hell yes

ugh, I hate much I feel this
Sometimes it feels like you've lived your whole life in a house that's always a little bit on fire. Like it's usually just in one room and you make sure to wet the walls around it so it doesn't spread and that usually works. You were expected to take more responsibility over fire containment when you were like seven because it's not like you can expect your parents to always be 100% on guard about making sure the whole house doesn't catch fire, and you figure that's just how things are like.
And sometimes as a kid you visit your friends' homes and some of then whisper to you - grimacing with embarrassment - about how they're not supposed to tell anyone this, but there's a whole room in their house that's currently on fire. And you're like yeah it's ok I'm not supposed to tell people about the way our house is a little bit on fire all the time, too. And then you visit some other friend's house and there's no trace of fire anywhere, and you think "wow, these people are really good at hiding their house fire."
And one day you show up to work like "hey sorry I'm late, I forgot to wet the walls before going to bed last night and my whole house burned down", and you're startled by the way people react, acting like that must be the worst thing that has ever happened to you. And you're just like "chill, it's been years since the last time this happened, and it wasn't even that bad this time", and that just makes people more shocked, acting like that's the weirdest and most concerning thing they've ever heard anyone say, which only confuses you more.
And then someone tries to explain to you that people aren't supposed to have an ongoing house fire. Most people actually never experience a house fire in their lives. Like not even once. Not even a little bit. The normal amount of having your house be currently on fire is zero.

On date #2 he noticed the little skull beads bracelet in my car and I also showed him the little stone skull my niece had given me. Date #3… he rummaged around in his pocket and pulled out these three little skulls (quarter for scale) and hands them to me, he said he probably bought a big bag of them a while back and had some in a plant, thought I might like some. It’s the “me” equivalent of flowers.

can we please please please learn to differentiate between things that are good but devalued because of their association with women (caring for children, being compassionate), things that are neutral but seen negatively because of their association with women (the colour pink, having long hair), and things that are bad but associated with women because of misogyny (being materialistic, being stupid) because otherwise we’re gonna keep getting takes like “being gender nonconforming is anti feminist” and “not studying for your classes is feminist”
