a significant reason why the batman works as a film so much is that it returns to the erotic fusion of anonymity and voyeurism thats basically essential for him to work in a live action setting, if you want to believably have a real guy running around in black leather/spandex you kind of have to lean into it and its what sets that film and burton's apart for me. the burton films are just. so much less subtle about it.

its still incredibly present, the camera he wears as a contact lens so he can watch his night back at home, he literally spies on selina from afar too. selina's attraction being so built around his anonymity and how it allows her to see him in the truest way possible. the way the riddler breathes in his mask like a strained moan. its all there if you actually look, just a little more subtly than batman returns which is like. i should not have been allowed to watch that as a kid jfc
