[Adar] The Artist and The Muse

♫ - Peter Capaldi - Hangar Lane
main masterlist | blog playlist
The weather outside was beautiful, and for the first time in too long, everyone was outside. Joyful laughter and happy screams echoed through the camp, where adults chattered and children played without a care in the world. This is how it was meant to be all along, and now the war was over and safety had been guaranteed, it was refreshing to see the spirits of everyone here lifted high.
Not willing to pass upon the nice day, you dressed yourself and headed out, book and pencils in hand. An avid artist, you hadn't found the time as of late to really draw. Now however, felt like just the right day to try and get back into it. Stepping outside, you took a deep breath in and smiled. Finding a small log, you peered out onto the camp, aiming for something still to try and draw.
Finding something still was a challenge, however. The excitement of the children alone meant they would not keep in the same place for more than two minutes. Giggling, you allowed your eyes to land on the perfect subject.
Adar.
He sat before you, perfectly in your line of sight. Always keeping his watch out on his children, you knew the Lord Father was the least likely to get up and leave, or move anywhere else. To yourself, you thought he looked incredibly handsome sat where he was, the small amount of light that had been let in left his face in a glow.
You began to sketch, keeping a keen eye on him but trying not to make it too obvious. The last thing you needed was the embarrassment of being caught staring at Adar. Not that you had a particularly strained relationship, far from it. You had spent evenings with him simply talking, walking and eating occasionally. You had been a part of strategy plans during the war and through that, you became close.
What exactly your relationship was, you didn't know. It wasn't romantic, at least not on his part, you thought. There were fleeting touches, where Adar's hand would linger a little longer than it should against your own. There were times where he'd lean in to point something out on a map, and his body would be there just a touch more than was necessary. You were not complaining.
As your pencil travelled across the paper, paying close attention to Adar's face, and the tiny details, you allowed your mind to wander a little more about the subject himself.
What had first caught your eye all that time back upon first meeting him were those eyes. Adar's eyes were a striking shade of blue, one that contrasted the rest of his dark features/ They had drawn you in, and often you found yourself unable to look away. Paired with his fair skin and dark locks, it was the perfect match. You had no care for what he may have looked like before, to you it wasn't important. What was, however, was that he was alive and here.
Taking a second, you glanced up to him again, only to be met with those same eyes, lit up with an accompanying smirk. He knew you had been watching him, you could tell. A faint blush rose to your cheeks as you gave a smile and a wave to him, earning a nod and a wink as he went about his watch. Letting out a breath you were unaware you had held in, your focus turned to your pencil once more.
An hour or so had passed since you began to draw, and you were happy with your work. You had drawn a beautiful scene, trees and flora in the foreground and just behind those, Adar sat on the log bench before you, smiling. He always looks good when he smiles, you thought. Taking one last look to make sure everything was right, you let your eyes fall upon his chair, only to find him not there. Shrugging, you took the assumption some form of duty had taken his attention, and started to stand from your seat. Before you could do so, someone sat next to you with their hand on your shoulder.
"May I?" came the voice of the Lord Father, though you were already aware of who it was. You greeted him with a smile and a lie.
"Of course, I wasn't going anywhere," you smiled, clumsily trying to juggle your pencils and close the pad which made Adar chuckle to himself. "It's too fine of a day to waste it."
"That it most certainly is," he agreed. You both sat in silence, though not an unwelcomed one. Simply, you were enjoying each other's presence.
It felt very casual, as it always did with him. Conversations with Adar were always insightful and comfortable, you had found each other comforting company. Though, this was the first time he had seen you with any form of hobby, and it warmed his heart to see.
Adar had taken a liking to you not long after you had first arrived in his camp. You hadn't judged, and you were always their helping the uruk with anything they made need. He had previously seen you helping gather materials, teaching the children poetry and reading to them around the campfire at night. Through long talks with you, he had come to know a beautiful person, someone who warmed his heart. It scared him, and he believed you could never have felt the same, so he stayed silent. But, Adar's heart yearned for you.
He knew he loved you, because he had taken interest in the more mundane things about you, so to speak. The Lord Father had found himself taking note of what your favourite colour was, your favourite season, what you liked to eat. He had memorized every detail about you, as best he could. He hated to admit it, he really did. But, he was in love.
Adar thought he knew everything already, but here you were with art supplies in hand, and he was very intrigued. He was the one to speak up, and broke the silence with a question.
"So, I see you are an artist? Tell me, what do you like to draw?"
You giggled. "Everything, really. I love flowers, but I also enjoy drawing people where I can."
The way your eyes lit up when you spoke about something you liked never went unnoticed by Adar. Your whole face looked soft, and bathed in the beginnings of the sunset, he could not take his eyes from you.
"Would you like to see some of my drawings, Adar?" you asked, and he took a moment to answer. He could listen to your voice call his name for the rest of eternity.
"I would like nothing more," Adar replied with a smile, moving in a little closer, allowing your legs to touch.
You began to flick through the pages, giving him a tour of the book. He watched with curiosity and a genuine interest as you thumbed the pages, giving him small explanations of what was on the pages. There were drawings of landscapes from various points around Middle Earth, but most drawings were made since joining him. He felt a surge of pride run through him when you started to show him your more recent sketches. They consisted mostly of his children, some going about their days and some headshots where they had sat for you.
He wasn't sure why he felt pride, but he did. Perhaps it was because he was happy to see you got along with them, or maybe it was something else. All he could think right now was how close you were, and how you hadn't moved away from him. You stopped at a page that depicted the children studying books in the library, and smiled up at him.
"So, that's that really," you breathed out, with a small laugh after. "I never really show my work to people, but thank you for taking an interest."
He boldly decided to put his hand on your thigh, and you rested yours on top of his.
"They are beautiful, you know. You most certainly have a talent there."
"Thank you, I've been drawing since I was young, but I've really honed my skills and found my style in the past couple of years."
He hummed in acknowledgement. "That you have. What did you draw today?"
His question was innocent enough to anyone else. But, your heart raced a little with anxiety. You didn't want to show him your drawing from today, because you were unsure how he would react to you having stared at him for hours. Deciding to try and swerve the question, you shrugged, nodding down to your page.
"This one, Adar."
Adar chuckled and shook his head. "No, you didn't," he teased, and you cocked your head in question.
"What makes you say that?"
He leaned himself in, pointing at the corner of your page.
"That date was three days ago."
Cursing yourself in your mind, you sighed. He was too quick for you. You should have known his keen eye would see it. Seeing no sense in lying any more, you flipped the page with rosier cheeks than before.
Adar's eyes widened and his lips parted. He had expected your drawing to have him included because he had felt you staring at him. But, he wasn't thinking he would be the sole subject. His eyes roamed the page and took in every detail.
The corners of the page were bordered with various flowers often found in the South, bushes and trees keeping the center in frame. The unlit campfire sat to the left, and there on the log bench was himself. Despite the size of the sketch, you had managed to capture the small details about him in it entirely. It was the spitting image, and he took in the smallest of breaths.
Breathing out your name in a way you had never heard before, his eyes turned to your embarrassed face. "This is incredible, why would you not show this to me?"
It was your turn to take in a breath as you tried to brush off the anxious feeling. "I wasn't sure if you would be happy with it or not, or happy with me looking at you for that long. I- I just thought you looked beautiful sat there in the light, and- well, handsome not- I-"
Adar looked at you amused; never had you tripped up on so many words before, you were completely flustered. Gently, he moved his hand from your thigh to hold you chin between his thumb and forefinger. His eyes were soft, and a smile adorned his lips.
"You need not panic, I am honoured you think me beautiful enough to study for so long."
"I do, Adar. You are beautiful."
The both of you found nothing to say for the moment, but you were very aware of his close proximity. Your eyes met his own, and they were just as striking as the day you had first met. Adar leaned into you, placing his forehead against your own as his hand moved from your chin to cup the side of your face. Your own hand rested against his chest plate as you took in his scent, closing your eyes.
When you opened them, you saw the uruk smiling down at you with adoration. His eyes flicked down to your lips and back up to your eyes, a silent question hanging in the air. You nodded just a touch, and as the sunset fell behind you, Adar placed his lips against your own. It was gentle, so gentle. He kissed you as though scared he make break you with any more force, but he put every feeling from the past couple of months into it. Adar wanted you to know that you were adored, that you were safe, and you were his.
The kiss was slow, drawn out, and you had found yourselves tangled into each other by the time you pulled back. His arms had found your waist, and yours the nape of his neck, fingers running through his hair. You were as close as you could be to one another, and shallow breaths came from you as he pressed his face into the crook of your neck, allowing you to hold him close.
"I was unaware you felt the same, my star," came his muffled voice, and you let out a breathy chuckle.
"Nor was I, Adar. Nor was I."
Adar's head came back up and he pecked your lips as he did so. The, his voice carried through the air between you, the tone semi-serious as he said your name.
"If you will have me, starlight, I will protect you and all we are with everything I have. I will love you and care for you as you deserve to be treated. I wish to start this new age with you, and see in every age to come with you by my side. I cannot promise you it will be easy, but I can promise you that until the end of time, you will always be the keeper of my heart."
Tears formed in your eyes as you smiled without control, nodding your head and tracing your fingers over his cheek.
"Adar, of course I will have you. You are all I have wanted. I wish for nothing more than to see this new age with you, and to be by your side when you wake and fall asleep. I am yours, as you are mine."
With that, he kissed you again, this time a little more feverishly. Somehow, you had found yourself straddling his lap as he leaned back, keeping his arms securely around your waist. Resting your head on his chest plate, you felt him kiss your head from time to time, muttering small words of adoration into your hair.
"I'll say one thing," you started, chuckling as you did so.
"Hmm?" he mused, pondering the humourous tone to your voice.
"If drawing you gets me this, I will never stop doing so."
It was Adar's turn to laugh now, a genuine heartfelt laugh you hadn't heard before. It was music to your ears, and food for your soul to know he was truly happy for the first time in so long.
Cheekily, he leaned in and whispered something to you that made you gasp.
"How about you keep on drawing me tonight and we can see how far this goes?"

[Adar] Peace

♫ - Muse - Undisclosed Desires
main masterlist | blog playlist
a/n: gets a lil' suggestive towards the end, nothing graphic though! more just sweet :)
For the first time in forever, the world was silent. So silent, in fact, that you could hear the crackle of the bonfire and the laughter outside. With a hot drink in hand, you brought yourself to the window of your home and stared out. Your eyes had fallen upon the festivities, as the uruks sang and danced away, finally free.
There were no bangs, no screams.
It had been a long, hard fight and it had taken so many lives in it's wake. Battles both mental and physical had been fought, but for now there was peace, and peace meant happiness. Finally, the children had time to grow in a world that wasn't hateful of them. The clan could have those children and raise them, as well as live each day knowing that they would be alive to see tomorrow.
A new age had begun for everyone.
Smiling to yourself, you sipped at your drink as you watched over the group. Not much for partying, you had left early to come inside, choosing instead the warmth of a blanket to the cold chill sweeping through the village. You had stayed long enough to talk to as many folk as you could, and that had made you content enough to excuse yourself.
As you giggled at the sights before you, two strong arms wrapped themselves around your waist, pulling you back into an embrace. Sighing, you allowed yourself to settle back.
"Adar," you breathed, leaning your head back onto his shoulder. "Why are you not outside with the others? This is a remarkable day, my love."
Adar simply hummed in response. He buried his face into your neck, leaving small kisses there as his body pressed closer to yours. You placed the cup down, mindful not to spill it, and allowed your hand to run through his hair. He held you so gently, yet firmly, and breathed in your scent before replying.
"I came to check that you were okay, starlight."
A smile crept its way onto your face. You loved when he called you that. Spinning in his arms, you faced Adar and took in the sight before you.
To you, Adar had always been beautiful, but bathed in the glow of the fire and the few candles in the room, he looked ethereal. The long dark locks on his head framed his face, and the shadows contrasted him in all the right ways. You just stared as he smiled down to you.
"I am fine," you replied after a while, realising that you hadn't actually answered him. "I just prefer the comforts of home to the crowds today. I must say, though, I am happy to see them like this."
"As am I, it is something we have fought long and hard for. It is something they deserve."
Your eyes ran over his face. Adar looked tired, but now knowing that there was peace for now, he looked a lot less strained than usual. His face was softer, and the toll that was taken on him had lifted, allowing him a more free range of emotion and some much needed relaxation.
"And it is something you have given to them, Adar. Security, a home, something to fight for. Now they can rest in the knowledge that it was worth it. You are incredible, my darling."
Adar leaned in and kissed you, as your arms wrapped themselves around his neck, one hand in his locks and the other holding his face. He pulled you tighter to him, as his gauntlet clad hand held your waist as the other landed on your back. The kiss was slow, emotional, and conveyed every pent up emotion between the two of you. Adar pulled away first, leaning his forehead against your own. His voice was a whisper, and his eyes were closed as he spoke.
"Thank you for sticking by me, by all of us. I could not have done this without you by my side. Even when things were at their hardest, you still never left. My children and I will forever be grateful, and forever be indebted to you."
"Oh, Adar, hush. You all owe me nothing. All I ask from you and your children is to live your lives. That is what this has all been for."
With all the love he had in him, Adar brought you into a hug as you rested against his chest. He placed a kiss atop your head, keeping his face buried into your hair for a moment. You let him hold you, knowing he needed it. Outside, the uruk had begun to sing and play their music again, the festivities growing even more as the night went on.
Taking your hand in his own, Adar led you a little further from the window to a more open space, and took you again by the waist. He began to sway, smiling down at you. You giggled.
"You know perfectly well that I cannot dance, Adar," you had mused, but he shook his head.
"Let me guide you, my light. You do not need to know how to dance as long as I know how to dance. I can teach you."
He kissed your lips once more before offering his hand to you. Taking it, you began to follow his lead, keeping focused on the music outside. Perhaps a slow dance wasn't the right type of dance for the sound, but you cared not. What mattered was the moment.
Adar had you dancing fairly well, spinning and twirling you now and then, rewarding you with kisses whenever you hadn't fallen or tripped. Eventually, you had gotten the hang of it, and now you found yourself in his arms just swaying. The way this man could make you feel with the simplest of gestures blew your mind.
"You mean more to me than you could ever know, Ilmarë," Adar whispered against your lips. "I am thankful you will be with me for the rest of the ages to come."
"I will be with you for as long as this world continues to exist."
With that, Adar wasted no time in hooking his arms under your legs, lifting you as if you weighed that of a feather. It shocked you every time, reminding you of just how strong he was under the armour. His lips met yours again as your hands lost themselves in his hair, his kiss feverish and full of passion.
So lost in your love, you gasped as your back hit the wall and Adar's weight held you in place. Your legs tightened around his waist as he kept you steady, as his lips began a flurry of kisses down your jaw to your collarbone, teeth grazing as he went. Your gasps were not lost on him, and Adar smiled against your skin. He pulled back to look up at you, his eyes boring into you with so much love.
Breathless, you held his face in your hands, tracing your thumb over his scars. It was a gesture that had often made him jump, but this time he had relaxed right into the palm of your hand.
"As much as I am enjoying this, my love, I think you.. we should get back to the party, no? It's not the right place or time whilst the party is going on. Besides, you do not want someone coming in and wondering where you are, do you?" you chuckled. He could listen to your laugh all day, he thought.
"I doubt we are the only ones engaging in celebrations of this kind, I assure you," he replied with a wink, and a surprisingly cheeky tone you hadn't heard from him before. Adar let out a laugh of his own as he looked upon you, your face stunned at his insinuation.
"But, I suppose you are right. It can wait for now."
You pulled him close to you, cradling him gently in your arms as he let you down from the wall slowly, taking your hand in his own. As you gathered yourself, Adar was quick to pick you back up and throw you over his shoulder.
"Adar!" you exclaimed, only hearing him laugh again. "Hey, put me down! I thought you said.. it could wait!"
You made a few feeble attempts at escape, the pair of you knowing you were far from serious about it. Adar hadn't replied until you reached your bedroom door, as he pinned you close to it.
"My starlight, I did say it could wait. I did not say for how long," his tone was dripping with amusement, as his lips found your neck once again.
"But, you said I.. I was right," you breathed out, practically having forgotten what you were going to say anyway. Instead, you chose to get lost in your lover.
"You were right, yes," Adar mused between kisses. "You were right about it not being the right place. The bedroom is far more practical."
"Adar!"

[Adar] Baking Bread

♫ - Boats & Birds - Gregory and the Hawk
main masterlist | blog playlist
Often when there was more than just one person in the kitchen, chaos ensued. It didn't matter who it was, it always ended in a messy disaster. Ingredients that belonged in bowls ended strewn along the tabletop, and all participants were covered in all kinds of food. Such was the case with Adar and yourself.
Despite his outwardly stoic demeanour to everyone beyond camp walls, behind closed doors you saw a softer side to him. Adar was kind, full of stories and had so much love to give. That much was evident with how he handled his children. Possibly the sweetest of all, was that he loved to bake things, especially bread.
So, one day, you decided to join him in the kitchen, which is how you ended up here.
It is worthy of note that neither of you could cope well when someone else was in the kitchen with you; cooking was a one person job in this house. Still, you'd both thought that baking bread may be a fun activity, some nice stress relief after a busy week.
"Have you baked bread before?" Adar asked, coming up behind you and wrapping his arms around your middle. You leaned back, closing your eyes for a second.
"I have, but not often. I will be taking your lead," you replied, placing your hands over his as he swayed you.
Adar placed a kiss to your neck and smiled.
"Then let us get to it, shall we?"
It started off fine. The bowls were ready, the ingredients were set up and the oven was preheated. You worked together in harmony, moving around each other as though you were dancing. Smiles and laughter filled the kitchen. That was not to say it wasn't complete bedlam in there.
"No, it's supposed to go into that bowl."
There's now flour all over the counter.
"I am sure it is meant to be here, love."
There's now sugar on the floor.
"How have you done that?" Adar questioned, amusement in his voice as he gestured to your clothing. You were covered in flour. Shrugging, you giggled.
"I would assume the same way you have done that."
Adar's brow furrowed and you pointed at his torso. He too was covered in flour, and it had worked its way into the cracks and crevices of his armour. He let a small, shocked expression flash across his face, and you burst out into laughter.
"And what are you laughing at?" he joked, closing you into the corner of the kitchen. Realising you had nowhere to go, you decided to make the most fun of it you could.
Narrowing your eyes, you feigned thought as though you were pondering an answer. Then, you reached around him and dipped your hand into the loose flour. Bringing it back round, you wiped it clean across Adar's face.
He didn't move, he didn't react. He just stood there, covered in white dust, staring at you. To you, that was far more unnerving than if he tried to kill you. Deep down you knew he would never harm you, and he would be the last to ever lay a finger on you in malice. But, you couldn't deny how well Adar projected that vibe.
"Adar..." you trailed off questioningly, failing to hold back a giggle. He looked adorable stood before you, which was not something people would say often about the uruk leader. But, with you it was different.
He raised an eyebrow at you, holding back his own laughter in attempt to scare you. You went to move back, to try and escape the corner of the kitchen he had you trapped in, but your lover was quicker. He caught your wrists in his hands and towered above you, leaning in to kiss your neck. As he did so, he made a point to wipe his cheek up your face, transferring the flour from his skin to your own.
"You thought you could get away with that, my starlight?" he mused, a smirk adorning his face. He always looked beautiful when he smiled, even when there was menace in his eyes. "Thought you could run and hide away without consequences?"
You couldn't say anything, nervous giggles overtaking you as he held you in place against him. He continued his onslaught of kisses, only heightening your giggles. He allowed you one hand free, and it found place in his hair at the nape of his neck. You got settled against him as he simply hummed and rocked you, and that was when he struck.
The free hand he was using to prop himself against the side had grabbed a handful of flour and returned the favour, the white powder hitting your face and falling down your front. You gasped and he chuckled, moving back to cherish the look of surprise on your face.
"I was not aware my kisses were that distracting for you, my love," he said sarcastically, knowing all too well the effect his affections had on you. You simply stood with your mouth agape.
"I cannot believe you," you playfully pushed Adar back, who kept himself close to you regardless. "I cannot believe I let you distract me like that."
Adar smiled, a genuine one this time, and hoisted you up to sit on the counter, where his body found home between your legs. His arms encased you in on either side, one resting on your waist and one coming up to touch your face, taking in his handiwork.
"I can believe it," he kissed you again. "Look at the state of this room, and we do not even have a loaf of bread to show for it."
You chuckled, holding his face in your hands, before looking him in the eye. Almost instantly, you both burst out laughing at the magnitude of destruction befalling your small kitchen. Adar pulled you into his arms, hooking you beneath the legs to carry you.
"Adar," you jumped. "Where are we going?"
"For a bath."
"But, the kitchen, the mess! Oh, and don't forget the bread!"
He stopped walking for a minute to stare at you with a raised brow. Pecking your lips, he spoke so plainly and obviously, tone suggesting you wouldn't be changing his mind.
"The kitchen mess can wait and as far as I am concerned we can starve, I would like to bathe with you."
Seeing no sense in arguing, you let him carry you off to the bathroom, leaving the bombsite behind you in the past. It had been a lovely day, full of laughter and fun, and you were about to end it in the most incredible way. Sighing happily, you settled into his arms and relaxed.
Adar was right, it could wait.

[Adar] Defender

♫ - Weight of The World - Shayfer James
main masterlist | blog playlist
A well known name among the inhabitants of Middle Earth, there were few who would stand up to you at any point. You were a kind person, and never one for conflict, but your name alone often instilled a sense of fear into others. Your house name was not something to be played with lightly. The weight of your lineage rang through the lands around you, and while that weight on your shoulders was something you hadn't wanted, it was on occasion quite useful.
Such a situation you had found yourself in with your husband, Adar.
"That won't be good enough, I'm afraid."
As the Elf slammed his hand down onto the table, Adar placed his head in his hands, trying not to act uncivil despite his frustration. He had been trying to negotiate a temporary trade route with a small group of Elves, who were being less than hospitable. You knew it would be a battle of words, but you hadn't expected the Elves to put up this much of a fight.
"And why not?" Adar asked, eyes narrowing at the blonde man before him. You knew that look, behind the eyes of your husband lay a thread of patience that was wearing thin. Very thin. The only reason he had not lost his temper yet was because he knew this route was necessary to keep his children fed and well. Without it, supplies would be dangerously low.
As the two sides bickered, you had managed to stay out of it and remain quiet at the back of the room. Observing from a distance and choosing to involve yourself if necessary was the right way of dealing with the situation. You were all too aware that Adar could handle himself, and he was in relatively good control of his emotions half the time. However, you also were aware that this argument was running him thin.
You moved around the table and placed a hand on Adar's shoulder, and you felt his muscles relax at your touch. The stakes were high, and he had gotten stressed that the negotiation wasn't moving. As you stepped up, the Elf glanced at you and raised a brow.
"This is none of your concern," said the second elf, who had been stood behind his counterpart this entire time just as you had been.
Before you could reply, the Elf that had been arguing with your husband placed his hand up, and his eyes flicked to the brooch you wore on your chest before they met your own. Clearly realising who you were, he smiled.
"I believe they can say their piece, for what it may be worth."
Your eyes narrowed accusingly. "It would be worth more than you may think."
Adar glanced up to you from his seat, though you couldn't see him, and he knew where this was heading. Adar had fallen for you because you were gentle and kind, and you wouldn't harm a single thing in this universe. Violence was not your weapon of choice if you could help it. Though, there had been times in which you had threatened adversaries with the wrath of your bloodline, and often it worked. The uruk knew now that it was coming.
Amused, Adar was not about to stop you.
"I see no sense in hanging around the matter, I know you are aware who I am," your voice cut through the tension in the air as the Elf nodded slightly. "And I do think it would be unwise to oppose us at this moment, do you not agree? This trade route is needed, and it would benefit both parties if you would simply agree to Adar's proposition."
You leaned across the table, closer to the Elf, stone-faced. The aura radiating off you was deathly. Voice barely at a whisper, you spoke through gritted teeth.
"I would hate for your names to reach my father."
The Elves cleared their throats, standing and moving past you to Adar.
"Your terms," he sighed, a glance of annoyance sent your way. "Are heeded. I'll have the papers and men sent to you to confirm. I hope you are happy."
Adar nodded, staying silent. You motioned for the men to leave, and that they did in a rather hurried fashion. Very unbecoming of Elves.
"My, my," Adar mused, and you turned to see him smirking from his chair. Leaning back, he motioned you forwards with his gauntlet-covered hand. "That was certainly a show."
A sweet smile graced your face, all traces of malice gone as you walk to him, taking his face in your hands.
"Adar, sometimes things need to be done properly, and sometimes this is the only way it can be done."
A devilish glint found itself in Adar's eye, as his hand rested on your waist now, the other had taken your hand into his own. The feeling of skin contact never failed to make him feel fuzzy, though he wouldn't admit that out loud. He pulled you onto his lap, circling your waist with his arms. You responded in kind, your hands burying themselves into his long locks.
Leaning in, Adar pressed soft kisses against your neck and collarbone, relishing in the touch of your fingers through his hair. His kisses trailed all the way up to your jawline, and you gasped at the sensation. His lips were light against your skin, and once he reached his destination, he claimed your lips with his own.
His kiss was searing, but gentle all the same. You didn't know how he managed it, but it was incredible. Adar pulled back from you, hazy blue eyes looking into your own as you stared back in wonder at him. Breathless, you spoke his name.
"Adar..."
"My starlight, shh," he placed a finger to your lips. "Thank you for defending me, it means a lot to me. Your unconditional support never waivers, and I am grateful for you. Please never forget that."
You smiled. "Nor you, Adar. I will always protect you, and I will always stand up for you. I'll always be your defender, no matter the cost."
He buried his face into your neck, taking you in, and you held him close as he did so, settling fully into his lap. This is where you stayed, as long as he needed you, however he needed you. These situations took the energy from him, and now you let him rest. Sitting there with him, you reinforced your prior promises to him in your head.
Whenever he needs me, I'll be there for him.
He'll never be alone.

Hello! I am really enjoying you sweet and fluffy Adar stories. Are you familiar with the practice of Kintsugi? It is a Japanese practice of repairing ceramics with gold or silver lacquer. Definitely check out some pictures!
Now for the request, would you write out a story of the reader encouraging Adar with Kintsugi as a metaphor? Like maybe Adar is doubting himself and the reader says he is her Kintsugi? Thanks!

[Adar] Perspectives

♫ - Safe & Sound - Taylor Swift & The Civil Wars
main masterlist | blog playlist
A/N: For @zanytimetravelcupcake, thank you for the request! I learned so much, so I hope you enjoy! If you all want a good learning curve, go check out kintsugi! <3
Adar did not see the point anymore. Of course, his point was his children. No matter how pointless things felt, he had to survive and be brave for them. To him, they deserved the world, and he would give it to them in every way he could if it meant they would feel as though they belong. Adar believed they deserved that much, that they deserved the happiness that came with having a homeland, even if that meant it must happen in the absence of his own happiness.
That wasn't to say Adar was particularly unhappy, though. While he may not be the most content of people, he most certainly had his reasons for that. He had small bits of happiness in his life, however. His children, seeing them grow from little uruks into adults, into warriors who had withstood so much hatred from Middle Earth. Then, there was you.
You had come into Adar's life when he needed someone the most. You had walked through the door and before long, Adar found himself hoping you would never open it again. At first, he chided himself for feeling such emotions, as he had given up on love a long time ago. Though, as time passed, Adar realised that you were not bad for him, and had actually helped start to heal him. He may never be the person he used to be, but your existence in his life had meant that there was something for him to wake up for, and a reason for him to get through each day.
There were some days, such as today, where existing felt like the worst thing in the world to have to do. Adar bore a lot of weight on his shoulders, the burden of leadership got heavier as the days passed by. He would not show it often, but you could tell when something was not right.
"Adar?" you questioned lightly, not seeing him at his desk when you entered the room. Instead, he was looking out of the window in his chair leaning on one arm.
"Ilmarë," he replied with a soft tone, unmoving. Even on his worst days, Adar would never take his feelings out on you.
Striding over to him, you knelt beside his chair and took his uncovered hand in your own. As you glanced up, you noticed he was more stern faced than usual. Where his features would normally be soft, instead they were harsh, and you knew his thoughts were plaguing him again.
"What is the matter, Adar?"
He sighed, running his hand through your hair and holding your face in his hand. Adar looked down to you, his eyes meeting your own, and you saw nothing but love in the way he stared.
"Why do you love me, starlight?"
You almost flinched at his question, but from his tone you knew he was not finished. You hated when he felt like this. Not because it was an inconvenience, far from it, but more because you hated him feeling bad when, to you, he deserved everything. Instead of answering, you nodded in response to ask him to continue.
"Well," he started, his hand back on the arm of the chair and his gaze once again landing on outside. "You could have anybody in Middle Earth, and I do not understand why it would be me that you would choose. I am broken, perhaps beyond repair. But you, you are full of life, my star. So much of it is ahead of you, I believe I would not suit that."
It tore a hole in your heart to hear that. To hear that the one person you loved most in this world thought so little of himself. To look upon him now and see the often stoic and calm lord, now with his eyes glazed over and voice wavering. You knew when you met him that he was vulnerable, and very susceptible to bouts of uncertainty, however little he may show it to others. Trying to think on the spot of how to help, you disappeared into your room and came back holding a small vase.
"Here," you started, kneeling beside Adar's seat and staring up at him. "I want you to look at this."
His brow furrowed as he took the miniature piece of porcelain and eyed it, turning it around in his hands. It was a black vase, no bigger than your forearm, and running through one side of it was a sliver of gold lacquer, holding it together as it clearly had been broken in the past. Adar shifted in his chair to face you a little more, inquisitive as to what exactly he was holding.
"What might this be, my star? Other than a fine piece of work, that is."
You smiled. "I want you to have it. It is a gift."
"Thank you, starlight. Where did you get it?" Adar had yet to take his eyes off the art, clearly enjoying it.
"It is a vase made for me as a child by my mother," you began, grabbing a chair and pulling it up in front of him so you were face on. "It didn't always look like that, though. It was pure black when it was brand new. I kept it clean every day, and it was my favourite possession as I grew up. A few years ago it broke, the corner piece there was shattered."
As you turned the vase in his hands, Adar hummed in acknowledgement, and he ran his fingers over the golden rivers now adorning the broken side.
"It is lovely, but I fail to see why it is relevant to our conversation."
"Because I thought it was beyond repair when it broke. I thought it was broken for good, and that I would never get it's perfect form back again, which devastated me. An older lady in my village took it in, and I watched her work on it one afternoon. She had fixed the side of it, and I will admit, now it is even more beautiful."
Adar nodded in agreement. You continued to talk, hoping something would click in his head eventually.
"She told me it was an art form, it's called kintsugi. This is where you take something broken, and fix it, and in that you learn to embrace the flaws or imperfections. She taught me that things that appear beyond repair are often more beautiful after the fact. I think you could learn from that too, my love."
Adar placed the vase down on the table, with the cracks facing you both as he took your hands in his own, rubbing his thumbs gently across the palms of your hands.
"Ilmarë, I believe I understand now. Do you really think that of me? You believe I am still beautiful though I am broken?"
"No, I believe that you are beautiful in spite of being broken, Adar. I believe in the good in you, I believe that despite all that you have endured, and all that has happened to you, that in this moment you are more beautiful than ever. Though I have known you merely a few years, I think that you are imperfect in the most beautiful of ways."
Adar's piercing blue eyes met your own, and he smiled. You felt butterflies in your stomach; even after all this time, the sight of his smile never failed to make you fall in love all over again. His smile softened his whole face, and it lit up with a newfound warmth.
"I love you, Adar. I stay because I care so deeply for you, and no matter what I will stay with you for as long as you care to have me. Please never forget that."
Adar leaned forwards and placed a kiss to your lips, and you held his face in both your hands, gently running your fingers over his scars. This was an action he used to flinch at, but now he reveled in your touch every time. Pulling away, you whispered against his lips.
"Never forget that when you doubt yourself, I am here. You are my kintsugi."

[Adar] - Rainfall

♫ - Safe With Me - Izakaru
main masterlist | blog playlist
A/N: Sorry for being MIA, I went to watch Sam last night in Coriolanus and it was incredible! Any of you in London please go watch if you can, it's so worth it! Anyway, I'm back to regular programming hopefully, please enjoy!! <3
Taking a long breath in, you sat bolt upright in your bed. Your eyes were wide, and your skin was sweaty but cold to the touch. It was rare for bad dreams to plague your sleep, though when they came, they were awful. Letting yourself calm for a moment by taking a deep breath in, your eyes glanced to your right, where your lover often lay. Hoping this one time you would find him there, such a thing was not the case. Instead, you found that side of the bed empty and made up, suggesting he had not been here all night. Slipping out of bed, you let your feet carry you to where you knew he would be.
Often late at night, Adar could be found behind his desk working away on plans and various bits of business he had to attend to. Sometimes it piled up on him, and it meant long nights trying to figure the mess out. Tonight was one of those nights, and as Adar sat in front of all the paperwork, his mind drifted to you. How he wanted nothing more than to be with you now, in bed, doing absolutely anything but this. He drifted into a sort of daydream, distracted at the thought of being able to hold you and kiss you now. It did not last, and just as quickly as he fell in, he was pulled back out.
A knock was heard at his door. Adar placed his head into his hands, assuming it was one of his uruk's with more news he really cared not for at this moment in time.
"Come," he called, trying to hide the exasperation in his voice.
"I hope I'm not bothering you," came your reply, your own voice meek and quiet.
Adar's head shot up, clearly not expecting you to be out at such a time. He felt the same feeling in his stomach as he always felt upon seeing you; the joy, the happiness, and as usual you looked gorgeous, despite having woken up merely minutes ago. From past experience, he knew you probably couldn't sleep, which wasn't good for you but he was welcoming of your company all the same.
"My star, is everything alright?" Adar questioned with concern. It always had warmed your heart when he voiced his worries for you. It showed you how much he truly cared.
You hadn't answered, and so Adar stood and made his way over. Reaching and towering above you, he place his hands on your shoulders, and you lift your head to look up at him. Your tear-stained face was enough to convince him something was wrong, as well as your inability to look him in the eye. Saddened that you were not okay, he pulled you over to his chair to sit with him. You sat on his lap, legs thrown over one side of him as he held you bridal style, safe and secure. You buried your face into his neck as he ran his hand through your hair to calm you.
"Whatever is the matter, starlight?"
Taking a moment to answer, Adar gave you all the space in the world. He knew that now you needed comfort, and to exist in his company, and so he would not pressure you for an answer. He was content upon seeing you unharmed.
"I had a nightmare, Adar. I know it sounds silly to come to you simply for one bad dream, but I didn't know what else to do."
Adar shook his head.
"Look at me, my love," he spoke, and you rose your head to look him in the eye. "Nothing such as this is silly. I am glad you sought me out, for I would not want you to bear such feelings alone. You know I am and always have been here to scare those thoughts away."
"But," you started, sniffling a little. "You are so busy, and-"
"I am never too busy for you. I never will be. Whatever I have going on will always be second to you, in your time of need or not. You come first. Now, how can I help?"
As if by some manner of pathetic fallacy, a clap of thunder rang through the air, and rain began to fall heavily outside. You could hear the taps against the window as you curled closer into Adar, taking in the warmth he radiated.
"Can I stay with you here?"
He smiled. "For as long as you need to."
You sat with him in the same position, his arms enclosing you in a house of safety, a place wherein no bad could ever come to you. All of those thoughts, those feelings, the memory of your nightmare had fizzled out, and right now you were left with a warm feeling as you listened to the rise and fall of Adar's chest. You counted his heartbeat in attempt to calm yourself entirely, and paid attention to the light, fleeting kisses placed atop your head.
Tiredness began to overcome you and could feel the realms of sleep drawing in, but you spoke anyway with a slight drawl in your voice.
"Thank you, Adar. For everything, for always being there no matter what."
Adar chuckled a little, and with his finger and thumb had tilted your head up to look at him. He took a moment, taken aback by how you looked in his arms. Your hair was messy, still unkempt from your having woken up the first time, and your face was bathed in the pale glow of the moonlight. Never had he seen a more beautiful sight than you in this moment.
"You need never thank me for this, starlight. All I ask of you is that you allow me to love you and for you to be here when I wake each day. I will always be here to fight those dreams for you."
You simply stared up at him with adoration. How you had fallen so far in love with Adar you knew not, but each day you fell further and further into what seemed like a bottomless pit. Not that you were complaining, far from it. You thanked whatever powers were at be in the universe that had flung you towards him, and you were grateful that you were granted the chance to love him in his entirety.
Never had you loved someone so much, and never had you been loved so much in return.
Leaning up, you ran kisses along Adar's jaw, earning a small hum of appreciation from him. Reaching his lips, Adar wasted no time in pressing his own to yours, a sweet kiss that never deepened. It remained soft, gentle and kind. Pulling away, you smiled up at the uruk you loved so dearly. Your head came once again to rest on his chest, your arms lazily around his middle as he sat in his chair. He kept you close to him, taking a breath to savour this moment.
"You should rest now, my love. It is already late." Adar's tone was somewhat serious.
You had a worried look on your face, which he had quelled immediately.
"Do not worry, I will let no harm come to you. I will be here, those dreams are gone now, it is just you and I. Listen to the rainfall outside, I know it is your favourite. Listen to how it falls, the rhythms and patterns."
And so, you did, not convinced you would be able to fall asleep so soon. Your mind honed into the taps on the window, as well as the small crackle of fire behind you both. In addition to the rain, you could also hear the drum of his heart as he sat with you. The ambient noise of the rain paired with how cozy you felt in his arms, there was little that could plague your mind and keep you from drifting off any time now.
A few minutes had passed, and after feeling you get a little heavier against him, Adar spoke to you with a voice low like a whisper.
"Beautiful, are you alright?"
No answer. Adar smiled. You were asleep.
Adar turned his focus to his work, deciding to get a little more in whilst he still could. He also did not want to disturb your position, finding it amusing and, dare he say, adorable how quickly you could sleep with him. He knew it was because you felt safe with him, and he reveled in knowing that you felt that safe in his arms. As he began to organise his papers, his free hand stroked your hair, before he placed a kiss to your head.
"Sleep well, my starlight. I will be here for you, always."
Thank you for reading! <3

[Adar] - Misunderstandings

♫ - Grow Old With Me - Tom Odell
main masterlist | blog playlist
"Where are you going?" Adar whispered to himself, emphasis hard on the 'are' as he watched you outside.
He had awoken to find you out of bed, an uncommon occurrence in itself; he was almost always the first to rise, by nature a light sleeper. But today had been different. Today, you had beaten him not only awake, but dressed and out of the front door. Adar stood by the window, looking out into the streets and his eyes had found you talking to one of his guards by the gate. His keen eye noticed the horse besides you, packed with a few bags and a saddle, and he would be lying if his mind hadn't raced to the worst thing.
You couldn't be leaving him, right? he thought, brow furrowed as he thought back to the previous couple of days to see if anything may have swayed your mind towards such a thing. He knew it hadn't been easy, threats rising all across Middle Earth meant his demeanour had been less than pleasant to be around. But, even through all of that, he was aware that you had stuck by him through much worse. The, it clicked with him.
Just last night was where his mind had landed.
Adar had come home disheveled, looking unruly and frankly exhausted. He was hunched over, something unnatural for him as he had normally carried himself with pride. As the door had closed behind him, you had met him and took his hand.
"My love," you'd breathed out, eyes full of concern. "Come, sit and relax-"
"I cannot relax now, my mind will not rest."
You had blinked rapidly; it was strange that Adar had interrupted you, he never did in the past. He always made sure that you were heard and got your point across. You had therefore chalked it up to his tiredness, it had been quite the stressful day for him. You started to speak again, this time with a smile and a cupped hand on his face.
"Perhaps we can get you settled instead then, if-"
"I said no! Leave it alone!"
Adar banged his fist onto the wood of the door frame, and you had jumped backwards, a small amount of fear coursing through your veins.
"I see," your tone was weak, feeble. Eyes down, you had turned away from Adar.
You felt the burn in your heart, never did Adar raise his voice in such a manner. The uruk was well aware of your fear of being shouted at, and of your distaste for raised voices. He had felt instant regret, but had little time to put that into action. Going to reach for you, he had noticed you were gone.
"Starlight," his voice whispered out, dissipating into the empty room.
Adar entered your shared room to find you curled up in bed, already asleep. Sliding into his side slowly, he made sure not to touch you or startle you just in case you were still awake. Regardless of that fact, he made sure to say his goodnight as always, not wanting to break the tradition, no matter how angry with him you may have been.
As he fell asleep that night, Adar had never been wracked with such guilt before.
"Lord Father," came a voice from behind him, snapping him from that daydream and back into the present. "I have a message for you here."
Adar took the letter graciously, his eyes had not moved from the window. The horse was still at the gate but you were nowhere to be seen. His heart sank.
"Thank you, Gorob. Tell me, is my Ilmarë still here?"
Gorob nodded, though Adar did not see. "Yes, Lord Father. By the gate, packing something away."
Adar excused himself and took off, his feet heading autonomously to the front of the city, head not thinking. All he wanted to do was catch you, to try to convince you not to leave. Everything in him wanted you to stay, to be his forever and to watch over the city by his side. Adar loved you more than anything, you had been there through so much and he believed that without you, perhaps he may not be here, either. You kept him grounded, always there to hold and to give him love in the hardest times.
There, he made a choice.
Adar knew how headstrong you always were, despite how you may come across initially. You seemed shy, quiet and mostly kept in to yourself. But, he knew the real you. Adar knew the strength of your will, and he knew that when your mind was made up, it was made up. So, he told himself that he would let you go. It made him sad, and he wiped one stray tear from his face as he walked, rehearsing what he could say to you.
This was a moment he had dreaded, and hoped never came. Yet, here he was at the final point, nervous and sorrowful.
"Ahh, Adar," you said, standing in front of your horse and seemingly trying to hide it. "I was just about to send someone to get you."
"My star, may I talk to you?"
He sounded upset, so you nodded and moved off to the side out of the earshot of the uruks surrounding you. Still trying your best to keep the horse semi-hidden, Adar shook his head before speaking up.
"I have already seen the horse, you need not hide it. I must apologise for last night, I was out of line and you did not deserve the harshness I put to you. My actions were wrong, and I always swore never to make you afraid of me. Seeing you scared made me realise that what you are doing now is right."
"Adar..." you tried to interrupt, but he shushed you so he could continue.
"Please, I wish only to get this out. I do not want to make this difficult for you. Leaving is something I had wished you never would do, but after thinking of my actions towards you, I understand. It saddens me and I will be forever missing a piece of my heart with you gone, but I know it will be the best for you if you leave, and therefore I wish you well, my light. You will always have my love, and my heart."
You smiled, and a small giggle erupted from you. You looked at Adar with so much adoration in your eyes.
"What are you laughing at?" he inquired, and you took his hand.
"Would you walk with me beyond the gate, Adar?" you asked, and he nodded. You grabbed the reigns of the horse and walked him through the clearing and down a lesser taken path.
It was quiet, and slightly awkward, as he did not know what to say after that. Luckily, the walk was short.
As the trees gave way and the lake opened itself up, Adar's eyes came upon such a beautiful sight. It was rare for him to have the time to venture this far out, and when he did he took his usual places to rest and relax. His eyes fell on the most beautiful flowers framing the water, that looked fresher than ever in the sun. Birds chirped in the few trees that encompassed the little cove, and as he turned to his left, he saw what he was presumably supposed to see.
Before him on the ground lay a blanket, red and white and two cushions that were black with golden leaves embroidered onto them. In the middle, plates and cutlery with a basket, as well as a book and some candles. Adar's eyes widened and he turned to you.
"What is this?"
"This," you started, a smile on your face and humour in your voice as you brought the horse round to unpack the bags. "Is what I have been sneaking around trying to do."
The bags fell open and there was an assortment of foods and sweet treats inside.
"I have been planning this all morning, which is why I was awake far before you. I noticed yesterday how stressed you have been, and I had the idea before I went to bed that I could try to relieve your worries somehow. So, if even for a few hours I can do that, please let me do so."
Adar couldn't say no to your face. You looked up at him with such love, and to him you were the most beautiful creature on this earth. He took your face into his hands, running his thumb gently along your cheek.
"Forgive me for thinking you would leave me, my starlight," he seemed ashamed of his thought, and you continued to smile.
"Adar, it is understandable. I know you did not mean it, and it is done now. The present is a time for food and relaxation. We can read, eat and forget the world outside of the confines of this lake."
Adar smiled, genuinely, for the first time in a while. He felt a warmth run through him as you led him to sit with you. Once seated, Adar pulled you closer and buried his face into your hair, whispering into your ear.
"I love you, my treasure. Never forget that."
You pulled back to look at his face, and pressed your lips against his own. Soft kisses were placed along his jaw, and finally you rested your head against his chest. Strong arms had wrapped themselves around you, and you both sat in each others comfortable embrace.
"I love you too, Adar. I always will."
That day was spent in the clearing, chatting, reading poetry excerpts and writing new ones with each other. Stress had no place by the lake, and as the sun began to set, it was then Adar realised he had neglected all his duties and the day was done. With not a care in the world, he lay with his head in your lap as you read to him, one hand holding the book and the other running through his chestnut locks.
The uruk closed his eyes, the sound of your voice relaxing him body and soul. He had so much to thank you for, and he was beyond appreciative of you staying with him. You would never hear it, of course, always too modest to take the compliments.
Adar knew that from here on, you would be with him, and that knowledge made him certain that anything was possible when he had you by his side. His eyes opened and he watched you read, the sunset glow bathing you in a gorgeous light.
Content, he drifted off slightly, knowing he could rest in the fact that you would be there when he woke.
And as promised, you always were.

[Adar] - Lazy Mornings

♫ - Stephen Sanchez - Until I Found You
main masterlist | blog playlist
Adar awoke at his normal time, which was usually at the crack of dawn as the sun began to shine over the top of the hills and through his bedroom window. It was on the rare occasion he would every be able to go back to sleep, partially due to his commitments and business that had to be dealt with, but also because his brain woke up and stayed up.
The uruk stretched, feeling the chill on his body as the cover fell to his waist as he did so. A small shiver went through him, something he was normally very used to. It must be colder than usual, he thought, laying his head back down onto his pillow and turning it to his left.
Looking across the bed, he saw you as you slept. Your hair was messy, but your face was so fair in the light of the day. You looked at peace, and it sent Adar's heart soaring. Smiling, he thought of his past, how he never thought love was something he would experience again, let alone find a person in which he would willingly commit himself to entirely.
Adar could never truly express the amount of love he had for you; if devotion had a physical form, it would be him. At first you had intrigued him, and after a while of talking and getting to know you, Adar felt something for you that felt different from the care he had for the uruks.
He felt love. Adar had fallen in love, slowly at first and then it had encased him entirely.
As he gazed upon you now, his hand rose to your face, brushing a strand of stray hair away so your features were unobstructed to him. How he had come to be so lucky, in his eyes, he did not know. But, he knew that whatever this feeling was, however you had bewitched him, he wanted it to last forever.
Rising, Adar made his way into the kitchen to prepare some tea and breakfast. The last thing he wanted was to walk out of the door that morning. He had such a disdain for it, one of the few times he truly thought about not bothering to see the day. It was evident by the fact he had yet to even put a shirt on, a sign that his mind was back in bed with you.
Then, he made a decision.
Because truly, who was going to tell him that he was not allowed to get back into bed with you? He was the Lord Father, nobody would dare deny him a lazy bed day.
Finishing up some fresh herbal tea and making a plate of bread, cheese and fruits, Adar made his way back to the bedroom and pushed the door open with his foot, careful not to drop anything or spill the tea. He shook his head bemusedly, somehow the noise he was making hadn't even stirred you. Adar placed the tray on his bedside table and got back into bed under the cover, shaking your shoulder lightly to wake you.
"Starlight," the uruk whispered softly into your ear, knowing any louder would startle you. "Wake up, my love."
Groaning, you opened your eyes blearily, and he was not entirely sure you were awake. Your arms reached out, wrapping themselves around his waist as you rested your head on his bare chest. Chuckling, Adar ran his fingers through your hair, then lifted your head so you were looking up at him.
"I hate to wake you, but if I do not then you will only fall back asleep on me."
"Mhm," your voice was mumbling, but he could understand you somehow. "Why would I not want to when you are warm and mostly naked."
He laughed, this time aloud, pecking your lips as you reluctantly sat yourself up next to him.
"Well, who would eat breakfast with me then, I wonder?"
Your eyes widened a little, your brain now having caught up. Then, your brain actually started to work and think, and you narrowed your eyes.
"But, you said you had an early morning. You'll have so little time to get ready if we eat, plus you-"
Adar kissed you, fingers holding your jaw as the other held your waist, keeping you close to him. You kissed back, hands resting on his thighs. He pulled back and smiled against your lips. It was a feeling you would never get used to, but you loved it so much. The butterflies he gave you when you saw him smile, the real smile that you got to see behind closed doors, was wonderful. If ever feelings lasted forever, that is the one you would hope for.
"I, my light, am doing nothing today. I have a day off from my work."
"According to who?"
"Me."
Shrugging your shoulders and most certainly not complaining, you laugh at his answer and he simply stares, taking in the sight before him. When you smiled it lit his heart up like a fire. He would have that view carved into his mind if such a thing were ever possible.
Adar reached around and brought the tray before you both, placing it gently onto the bed. You smiled up at him gratefully, and he nodded with a kiss to your forehead.
"Now, let us eat so we can get back into bed and enjoy each others company."
"Of course," you said softly, beginning to eat along with him. "You really didn't have to do all of this, Adar, if your work needs tending to I don't mind."
Shaking his head, he replied. "My love, sometimes there are far more important things in this world than what lies beyond that door. I realise the past few weeks I have neglected our alone time, and I know I return tired more often than not. So, I will make it up to you today. I thought I would start with this."
Your heart swelled. "It's a beautiful gesture, Adar, thank you so much."
"No need to thank me," he spoke gently. "It is what I am here for. As long as you feel safe and loved, and feel cared for, my job is done and I can be happy with that."
Leaning up, you kissed his lips lightly, taking the time to trace his jaw with your fingers.
"You are incredible. I am so lucky to love you, and to be loved by you."
"Starlight, that pleasure is all mine."
Not much more was said that morning, as you both finished breakfast and spent the day entirely together. You cuddled in bed for perhaps a little too long, and before you knew it, it was already noon, the sun at her highest point of the sky. Bathing and dressing, you took Adar for a walk.
You had gone on an adventure outside the walls, through the little garden and forest and to the lake on the outskirts. Adar had been here once, on a night in which he could not sleep. The beauty of it remained, and he was happy to share in that view with you.
Once home, you cooked together and baked a loaf of bread, which was fine until it was in the oven a little too long. Pulling it out, it was most definitely inedible. Adar blamed the oven for being on too high. You blamed Adar for distracting you by pinning you against the counter and kissing you non stop. In the end, you both agreed-to-disagree.
The night had rolled around, and you found yourself back into bed, having drunk some wine together. Tucked into his arm with your own draped over his midsection, Adar read to you. You focused on the rise of his chest, the vibrations from his voice sending you to sleep. As he read, Adar noticed you had begun to get heavier, and glancing down he could see your eyes were closed.
Smiling to himself, he placed the book down on the table and wrapped his arms around you securely. One hand in your hair, he placed a kiss onto your head, settling down further with you in his arms. Whispering one last thing into your ears, Adar let himself be consumed by sleep, the most content and happy he had been in a long while.
'You will always be the most important thing in my heart. My starlight.'
Thank you for reading! <3

[Adar] - Safe With Me

♫ - Sanctuary - Welshly Arms
main masterlist | blog playlist
TW: abuse (non-intentional choking), mention of trauma and nightmares (Adar) . If this triggers you, skip this one and take care of yourselves!
Sleep was a blessing. It was not often that Adar managed to get a good nights sleep wherein he could rest at a decent time and sleep all the way through until dawn. Sometimes, it was stress that kept him awake, other times it could be slight bouts of insomnia. On the rarer occasion, it was his nightmares.
Adar didn't have them often, he had learned to push those bad thoughts of his past away. He was not always successful, and sometimes they crept in. He had quickly learned to deal with them, but the more violent ones were hard on his own. He would wake, sweating and panting, feeling lost and empty and unable to sleep the rest of the night.
However, once he had met you, Adar found his nightmares became few and far between, that you had become a safe beacon for him in those times of need. Each time he woke with fear, you shushed him back to sleep, and he let himself rest knowing you were there.
Only one time had it been significantly worse than the rest.
You had awoken with the movement of Adar beside you, who was tossing and turning, tiny little groans coming from his throat as he did so. Sweat laced his forehead, and hie had a tight grip on the cover where his knuckles turned almost white. Adar's soft features were curled into a grimace, and he looked very pained at what was happening in his mind.
Concern had washed over you although you had been here many times before. You were not annoyed at being woken up, far from it, you knew it was a time in which Adar would need you the most and somewhere you had sworn to him you would always be.
"Adar?" you whispered, leaning down and laying your hand onto his shoulder, shaking him very gently. "Hey, come on, wake up."
Adar was notoriously hard to pull from his dreams, especially bad ones. That's why you handled him with care, squeezing his shoulder and laying your free hand on his face, the pad of your thumb rubbing his cheek. He tended to take comfort in your touch on his skin.
"Adar, my darling.." Your voice was louder this time and he had jumped bolt upright in bed. A little startled, you had jumped back, not too far as you kept yourself in his reach.
It must have been a terrible one, as Adar's eyes were glazed over as though he wasn't even there. In a fraction of a second, Adar's hand shot up and found home around your throat, though there was little to no pressure. Inside, you panicked, but on the outside, you knew you had to remain calm. Whatever his dream was must have gotten to him badly, as he would never have laid a hand on you any other time.
Not knowing what else to do, you did the one thing you thought may ground him again. So, you used your voice and talked to him.
"Adar.." your voice meekly trailed off, and Adar's hand had not moved a muscle.
Those eyes you had grown so accustom to staring at you with love were a haze, and he narrowed them as he looked at you in what was left of the moonlight. Merely moments had gone by, but it felt like a lifetime. Worry evident in your tone, you carried on in hopes you could get through to the uruk.
"My star, I know you are there. It's me, my love. Please come back to me."
Your voice broke at the last words, and Adar began to blink rapidly. Perhaps less than thirty seconds had gone by in the whole exchange, and his hand dropped as a look of shock found its way onto his face.
"Oh, starlight," Adar spoke, barely above a whisper. "I - I am sorry."
He squeezed his eyes shut, rubbing a hand on his temple. You sat before him, letting him process what had happened before making any move. Opening his eyes once more, the look of sorrow on his face broke your heart.
"I did not mean that, please forgive me. I was not aware of who you were... for a second, I thought.. I thought you were.."
"Shh, Adar. You need not relive it. If you wish to talk about your dream I am here, but do not worry, there is nothing to forgive for your actions. You acted out of turn, you did not know."
A sob left your lover, a very rare occurrence to hear out loud. If he did cry, it was mostly silent. You knew he was in a bad way right now. Leaning forward, you crawled to his side and took his hand in your own. Adar could not bear to look at you, feeling horrible for how he had treated you.
"My light," he began, eyes pointing down to his lap. "I promised to never lay a finger on you, and I am ashamed that I would allow myself to do that. If you no longer feel safe with me, I would understand."
Your eyes widened, saddened by the implication you would want to go anywhere else. "Do you think one small instance in which you have a natural trauma response would make me leave you?"
Your question was rhetorical, he knew he didn't have to answer. You tilted Adar's chin so his eyes looked into yours, and you wiped his tears as you always had done.
"Now, you listen to me, Adar," you began, cupping his face to keep his attention on you. "I know these nights will happen, they have before and I know your past is what causes them. Your dreams are of that, and that is not something easy to deal with for you. It would not be for anyone. But, your trauma is not something worth leaving you for, do you understand? I am here to help you. I know there was no malice in your action, and therefore nothing to be ashamed of. I am still here, I will hold you and kiss you until every bad thought is gone tonight. You are not alone, and you never will be."
Adar could see the sincerity in your face. The fear in him that you would leave after he had placed his hands on you in such a manner had dissipated, but still the remainder of his nightmare lingered. Your arms reached around him, pulling him into your side. One hand ran through his soft locks, your other hand entwined with his own.
Silence fell on the room as you sat together, Adar in your arms as you held him close. Your lips pressed kisses to the side of his head as he lay it on your shoulder, keeping himself nuzzled into your side as best he could. The sun had started to rise, and its rays crept in through the crack of the curtain. Still, you paid it no mind. In a way, it felt fitting. The darkest was done, and the calm after the storm washed over you both as you enjoyed each others company.
Adar stirred from his place, propping himself up on his arm as he leaned facing you.His hand came to your face to brush through your hair, and you had not flinched. You knew he was harmless, and you knew that he would never hurt you with intention. With Adar, there was nothing to fear.
"Thank you for staying with me." Adar spoke softly now, and you smiled down at the handsome uruk. In the pale glow of the sunrise, his features lit up in a beautiful way. You took a second just to admire him before responding.
"There is nowhere I would rather be, my beloved. I have never felt safer with anybody, you have kept me protected enough times for me to know I will come to no harm with you. Your burden is mine to bear, too. I will be here for you, always."
He leaned up to kiss you, lips touching yours softly. You returned it, just as gentle. As he pulled back, Adar spoke against your lips. It sounded more like a promise to himself, but you took his words in as the last thing you heard before the two of you drifted off into an early morning slumber.
"You are safe with me, my darling. I promise. This is our sanctuary, and I will always keep you protected."
