Finally got a guitar controller and it feels so much better than using the computer keyboard. But the RiffMaster controller only checks the tilt about 5 times per second and that's too slow for my game, which you can see more clearly at the end when I crash.

Latest WIP of my game, Melodic Run, where you play the main melody of the stage. I have text feedback and made the button mushroom-themed-ish, among other things I can't remember probably. Still just using a cover song I made for this demo.

Working on changing the look of the button so it's more obvious and also making the pop-up platforms have the same theme. I'll probably just go with a mushroom theme.
ignore the sound - I forgot to remove it in this recording

still working on the text to make it more clear when you play correctly, wrong, or miss the note.
Some things are still not implemented, like what happens when you lose all lives, or the score which is eternally 631 (possibly because it's haunted).

Another sketch idea of the new UI I plan on having. I'm thinking that if the player gets more than 5 correct notes in a row, then they get a 10x combo, which increases your score/points by 10 every time you play a correct note, inspired by how Guitar Hero does it.

To make the game mechanic easier to understand, I'm working on having some text feedback for when you get the note right, wrong, or miss it. I'm also making a score/point system for unlockables and for players to try beating their high score.

Probably my last update of the year. I've come a long way from having just 15 seconds of gameplay, to now having 20 seconds of game play.

I'll leave the visuals of the Power Slide like this for now and see how it feels and looks when I actually have music notes in the level.

It felt like jumping wasn't enough platformy and the char should have at least one other move they can do without the aid of special notes. So I'm working a power slide mechanic. I'm really not sold on the vfx for this atm.
Things that the power slide can do:
Char gets low to run/fit/slide under things (although my animation isn’t low enough)
Char can break things Works as a ground pound.
Allows you to go through slippery floor without slipping??
Can light the ground like fireworks??
Makes rainbow glow if you power slide across it. If you powerslide on all rainbows, you unlock something??

Fixed the tree animation and vfx. I think the next step will be adding sound effects, to the flower note and tree bounce, making sure they don't clash with the player playing the main melody.

updated the flower trail effect to make it more clear that it's causing the plants to grow (and to look nicer!)
edit: Crap! I just realised the tree doesn't animate when you bounce on it anymore! Will have to fix that tomorrow.

Character run animation from my rhythm game inspired by Guitar Hero and Rayman Legends's rhythm levels. Made in Blender and edited in Unity in an unnecessarily confusing way.

Character design inspired by the Banjo Kazooie and Tooie transformations. The alternative food-themed colours will probably be unlockables.
