Hey, Visa/Mastercard is telling you ya can't buy games they don't like
They've already forced Steam and Itch.io into deleting games that are R-18, NSFW or more vaguely, "Adult".
The thing is, Visa/Mastercard is seemingly being blackmailed by these two religious groups, who have tried this before, targeting Detroit: Become Human and GTA. These groups don't want ANY adult content ANYWHERE and here's the awful part;
Most LGBTQ+ games get tagged as "Adult" even if there isn't actually any Adult content in it.
And considering these ARE Religious Groups, those games were gonna be their next target anyways.
Visa/Mastercard, however, is being threatened with bad PR from them if they don't comply with the groups' demands, because they just don't want bad PR, period. So, by that logic, if enough people raise a stink and contact them about it saying this is a truly awful move, chances are they're at least gonna reconsider.
So, Email Valve, Itch.io, and ESPECIALLY Visa/Mastercard, saying these actions are concerning and harmful to consumers. Call out Visa/Mastercard SPECIFICALLY. If you have a card or any business with them, state in an email (or call if you're brave enough!) that you don't feel comfortable having any dealings with a company that would tell you what GAMES you can/cannot buy with your own money.
If you do NOT have any card or any business with them, email them stating that although you were CONSIDERING opening a card with them, or starting any other deal, their actions have made you change your mind as you no longer feel safe, or no longer feel as though you, the consumer, are the priority.
Again, Emphasize that a credit card company has no right to tell you what games you can buy.
And to go an extra mile, if you live in the U.S. you can contact your state's legislative and urgent them to pass the Fair Access to Banking Act, which would help prevent things like this from happening in the future. But only do this is you feel up to it!
I don't want a Credit Card Company telling me I can't buy a game, and I REALLY don't want a Religious Group or two telling me I can't buy a game. Don't let them morally police you, let them know they suck.

Heads up, UK friends.
Discord has implemented the age verification requirement system per the upcoming law going into affect later this week early, so prepare yourself for other sites, which may include Tumblr given the intent is to target adult content which may affect here because of how it still does get posted here, even if the intended targets are the actual site for it.
As of writing, the official petition to have the Online Safety Act repealed is close to 30,000 signatures, but it's barely enough to garner much attention to where it may be dismissed by Parliament, or may get discussed but not getting to where it'll be repealed to actually figure a system that doesn't carry the risk of private information getting leaked.
So again, please help spread and sign the official petition here.

just a heads up to my fellow writers out there that AO3 is currently fighting off bots commenting on people’s works to tell them that AO3 will delete their fics “due to the works being deprecated”, and the deletion will affect their accounts unless the authors delete the fics themselves first. IT IS A SCAM. AO3 will NOT delete your works. please do NOT fall for these bots!
I’ve been told the reason why these bots are doing this is due to copyright infringement issue where they’re trying to steal your works (possibly to train AI but this is just a guess) ‼️‼️‼️and once you deleted your fics, it will be either very difficult or impossible for you to claim ownership of your own fics when they were already deleted.‼️‼️‼️
a reminder that AO3 will never contact you through your comments section (in case they claim to be one of the moderators). AO3 will only contact you through your email address which you use to register your account, and it will be from AO3’s official handle. not some sketchy ass @
so if you get a comment telling you you should “delete your works to protect your account because AO3 is doing blah blah blah” report that comment. don’t delete your works.
PLEASE DO NOT FALL FOR THESE SCAM.
AO3 IS NOT DELETING WORKS.
DO NOT DELETE YOUR WORKS JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE CLAIMS THEY KNOW SOMETHING.

I keep seeing the take that authors on AO3 need to stop deleting their fics and instead to orphan them without any explanation of the consequences of orphaning a fic and as an author I really need to say something to this.
Stop telling people to just orphan their fics.
Orphaning a fic means giving up any and all ownership over it. No way to claim it back, edit it or delete it. Yes it's an archive but an author should still have the right to delete their work if they feel like they don't want it to be up anymore.
Readers always scream for authors to orphan their fics instead of deleting because they feel like they have a right to the fanworks that is shared with them for free. If it's so important to you to not lose a fic, download it. Also comment and encourage the authors, instead of telling them to give up all ownership to their work.
To authors, if you think about deleting your fics, there are other options you should employ first. If you don't want it connected to your name, put it into an anonymous collection. As long as it's in there, noone can see you wrote it, you still can edit ot or delete it and moderate comments on it. You can even move it to anther account, just create another one, add it as co author and then take your main account off. Then you can still edit it from your second account but it's no longer connected to your account.
If you don't want it to show anymore put it in a unrevealed collection, that way, the fic won't show up but it's still there, you can still see it, read comments and make it public again.
If you feel the urge to delete your fic, try one of these options first and see how you feel about it after a while, you can still delete or orphan afterwards, but this hopefully makes your decision easier.
Only orphan a fic if you're 100% sure. This is permanent, there is no way back from that, AO3 support will NOT help you if you did it on accident or change your mind. Don't listen to people telling you to just orphan it, make very sure, this is what you want.
