I’ve been drawing a lot lately. I really like the pixel brush in Magma. Anyways, Noir Elysium.
I’m working on other “full” pieces but take this for now.

Listen I love a Sherlock Holmes with self-worth issues and difficulty verbally expressing his deeper emotions as much as the next person, but consider: a Sherlock Holmes who knows he's in love with Watson -- a Watson who hasn't worked out his own feelings yet and who then goes and marries a woman. Consider, a Holmes who, when Watson finally does figure out his own feelings for Holmes, throws himself fully into showing his love for Watson. Consider, a Watson who is more hesitant to verbally express his love for Holmes -- to speak poetically and romantically of Holmes the way Holmes speaks of Watson (conductor of light, etc). Consider, a Holmes who makes Watson feel safe to step outside the strictures of expected Victorian gentleman behaviour, who does not think less of him for his disabilities, or for his softness.
#my life will be fullfilled the day i find a queer victorian holmes who is this way#sherlock#acd holmes#acd canon

Do you think Watson arranged a funeral for Holmes? Do you think he visited the grave? Do you think he showed him after he "came back from the dead"?
#i am ALSO tempted to draw this#damn the beautifull comparison of watson alone and the flower with flowers#and watson with sherlock and the grave with no flowers and unkept T_T#acd canon#acd holmes

I know the fandom is going crazy about the inconsistencies in timeline in acd holmes stories (and i believe the unreliable narrator is importatnt part and we for sure don't know all we could), but the funniest thing I can think of is doyle hating the stories so much he just doesnt care and if he encounters any critique, he just growls and snarks and returns to his shrine of hating sherlock holmes

I honestly think it has to do with it being a modern interpretation of Shelock Holmes. The characters stay pretty much the same (some get more involved in the actual story like Mycroft or Lestrade) but seeing them in the current world makes them feel more alive (same problems, routines...). Especially with John Watson's blog (I don't know when it started tho) it almost feels like they are indeed living and you just follow a part of their adventures through tv. I think this replicates very well the tone and mystique almost from the medium in acd holmes (because Watson "could" be the one writing for all you know). The modern setting is one of the principal differences with the RDJ Sherlock (the other being watson's personality).
In regards to relationships, Sherlock and Watson have more connections on screen compared to other shows (from what I have seen so far). Scotland Yard is not just one officer who changes names and needs help, they are a group working together with various types of relationships towards Sherlock (even if it's mostly one dimensional).
Lastly, the cliffhanger at the end of season one and two definitely has played a big role in the community plus the two year wait between seasons. The fandom could grow, theorise, notice details, do fanart/fanfics... And the name of the actors who play the leading roles could have played a part in getting ppl to watch it, but I don't know if they were well known or from which fandom people came.
Is Sherlock Actually Garbage? Why did we enjoy?
Like... I feel that we as an audience take video essayists like hbomberguy too much at their word and default to them when it comes to explaining our feelings on something. This isn't to send hate towards him but rather... healthy skepticism. It's clear that his now infamous essay has colored many people's opinions on the show but I find myself asking, "Well... why did we like what was 'garbage' to begin with?"
Because, well, nothing gets popular without some good reason. However much one thinks Series 4 dropped the ball, Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat had struck gold here. What about it was good enough to invest so much time into it? How good was it that the finale soured everyone before any essayists could?
I don't want to outsource my thinking for this. I wanna share my thoughts along with you if you are willing.
So... who wants to start?
#extremely long rant#i recently watched it but my first time was in 2019? so i wasn't in the fandom when it was really active#I think they fleshed out john a lot more and it made a big difference tbh#in the guy richie movies watson is kind of a dick to Sherlock sometimes (not without reason)#bbc sherlock#sherlock holmes#sherlock#rdj sherlock#john watson#text
