some scars cannot be forgotten
Neytiri's cut on Spider's chest scars badly; a long jagged red line across his chest, spanning diagonally from his shoulder to the bottom of his ribs. It becomes a painful, and very visible, reminder of that night on the Sea dragon. - @little-box-of-autism
It had been days since the incident at Three Brothers. Most probably a week, the Sullys where mourning.
Spider had got treated by the human camp, they checked his brain, just in case if anything was damaged.
And it had been days, ever since he saved Quaritch. Days since, he could feel the dagger on his neck, as the woman snarled. Days, ever since he got that scar on his chest, spanning diagonally from his shoulder to the bottom of his ribs.
...that was a painful reminder for both him and the Sullys.
Especially Neytiri. She was blinded by anger, rage and her emotions were out of control. Not that she wanted to hurt the boy, or anything but, she knew he did not deserve it. She knows her treatment towards him, she knows how she has treated him, she knows it all.
And she does want to try, try to make mends but every time she looks at him, she is reminded of the demon. The demon who burnt down and took everything she had.
She knows that she has trauma, she knows that her actions are not justified. Maybe even a crime, in Ewya's eyes.
Even more painful? The scar that she gave him. Not only the scar which was dragged from his chest to the bottom of his ribs, but the mental scars. The times, when she made him feel unwanted, the times when she was rather cruel to him and what not.
Now, Spider was well aware of her trauma, he knows it very well why she hated humans. It had to do with some family stuff of hers and to be frank, he was too tired to simply care.
He, did want a family. A place to return back to but he did not know where it was. And he used to think that it was the Sullys but after the that incident? He was not very sure about it.
And that made him feel like shit.
He knows Neytiri is trying but-
He can't find it in his heart to forgive her. But he was greateful that they let him in. Or at least let him hang out with Lo'ak and Kiri.
He had always admired Na'vi and Sullys. That's true but that was a long time ago, not that he does not admire them anymore but his wish to be one of them has decreased increasingly.
And that desire to be a Sully is long gone.

which fanfic writer problem are you?
fic hopper: working on a wip and don’t know where to go next? easy, just work on a different wip, then if that one doesn’t work out, open a different one, it’s foolproof!
all my tropes are dead: there are only so many ways you can describe a kiss, and you’ve written so many between this pairing that you’re running out of ways, don’t talk to me about the words ‘chaste’ and ‘soft’ ever again
unsung hero: im writing a fic under a certain set of tags or concepts to get more hits but the real story is about __ extremely specific thing that only i and two of my closest friends care about
rarepair hell: self-explanatory
wlw rarepair hell: like rarepair hell but one level worse
my last braincell: you’re a perfectionist so you’ll either post this chapter when it’s perfect or not at all
wandering eye: a side element or original character you introduced in your story is now near and dear to your heart but no one else will care about it
im well educated and will kick your ass: you’ve done so much research for this but can’t seem to write the damn thing
all talk and no action: you were going good until you got to this necessary climactic action scene and now it’ll have to wait for three months

annd I love this one too-
to link a chapter first go on to the three dots. Press it and there will be options. Click on the 'copy link'. The link is then copied. After that come to the fic which you want to link it to. Write probably First part or whatever you want it to be. Then click over the 'first chapter/anything' and then you will see a slight infinity symbol. Click that and then copy the link.
I hope it helps! :)))
Take It Easy - Chapter 2
Spider plopped down at his desk with a heavy sigh. He didn't mean to snap at Kiri and Lo'ak, or maybe he did. Nonetheless, it was still mean and he'd have to apologize to them the next time they visited. Well- That is talking in the sense that they will visit again. After his little outburst he was sure that they'd given up on him. Although he was used to it, 'it' being the abandonment, it didn't stop the pain that lingered in his chest.
But like he said, he was used to it. So he'd do what he always did. He'd move on with his life.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The sun hadn't risen yet, which meant that no one on base was awake. Except for the few who strayed a bit too far from their beds, like Spider Socorro. The kid never slept through the night, it was almost like he was some sort of nocturnal species. He'd go to sleep at a late hour and be awake by 4:00AM, perched on top of his rock wall or scrubbing his hair in the showers. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn't sit still.
No one had asked him why, and he wasn't even sure he had an answer for whoever would. Maybe he'd say that being active kept him happy, or it felt good to be doing something. But the real truth was that if he sat still for too long, he would be opening himself up to the thoughts that darkened whatever horizons he found himself facing. The thoughts that haunted him every night, the thoughts that maybe, just maybe, he wouldn't belong anywhere. Ever.
Not the labs, not airlock, not Room, not Earth, and definitely not Pandora.
And those were scary thoughts for a sixteen-year-old to go through, especially one who hadn't received an ounce of affection in his life. Especially one who-
Crap. He'd been sitting too long.
Spider rubbed away the sorry excuses for tears that had been forming in his eyes. He let his hands wander back down to rest on his desk, the windows at the top of Room casting beams of moonlight around him. It made for a pretty melancholic scene, it could've been an album cover. The song would probably be called 'come pick up your depressed and lonely child please'.
Spider cracked a smile at that one.
He shook his head before standing up, the legs of his chair scraping along the wooden floor noisily. Luckily there were no Na'Vi on base. Otherwise, he would've been caught. Advanced hearing and all.
His fingers skimmed over one of the many bookshelves, lightly tracing each and every cover. Spider had no intention of reading them, he had outgrown his reading a long time ago. Back on Earth, he wouldn't need to know about the stars, since according to Norm, he wouldn't have been able to see them anymore anyways.
Norm was a pretty smart guy, according to Jake. The man possessed the personality perfectly suited for a scientist, but something was missing in him. A gaping hole.
Spider knew that hole all too well. Hell- He lived in it.
But unlike Norm's habit of trying to fill up the hole with healthy things like studying or cooking, Spider filled the hole with junk. Porn magazines that he stole from Jake's old room, expired beer that made him feel more nauseous than drunk, the occasional wallow in self-pity with sad music playing in the background. Sometimes Spider would try to do something worth while, maybe clean up the lab one day or cook everyone a nice dinner, but it always ended up ruined. He couldn't even blame anyone, because every time it was his mistake.
He'd knocked over a beaker of acid over important paper-work one time, and almost burnt down half of Hell's Gate the other time.
But at least he tried.
That Spider was long gone now, though. That was the Spider who tried to get the scientists to like him, that was the Spider who wanted the scientists to like him.
All that was left now was an empty shell of a human being.
An empty shell that kept zoning out when he needed to focus.
"Focus." He whispered to himself, snapping out of his daze. He looked down to check his watch. "Only two more hours until 7AM. That's time for one book."
Or one beer.
Spider bit his tongue as if deep in thought, before letting his shoulders curl inwards. Beer it is.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"What the fuck happened, Norm? You said he was fine here!"
"How was I supposed to know he was getting drunk every night, Jake? Did you want me to check all of the security cameras before going to sleep? We thought we could trust him."
"I can't believe this. Spider could've died. I expected you to be more vigilant!"
"You expected me to be more vigilant? I didn't even want to look after Quaritch's kid, Jake! I've tried my best, he's impossible to communicate with. I'd like to see you try to talk with him."
"You know how Neytiri feels about him-"
"Neytiri isn't here though, is she?"
"What's that supposed to mean-"
"It means that Neytiri isn't a factor in this. This is between me and you. Who's going to take care of Spider until he turns eighteen, because we're sure as hell not going to do it?"
Take care of Spider?
Take care of Spider?
He could take care of himself, thank you very much! He'd been doing it for the past sixteen years. Jake never tried to be his father or stay longer than necessary. The Na'Vi kept Spider just out of reach, just close enough for him to get attached and then thrust aside once again. It sucked balls.
"Norm. You said you could handle this, you promised. Neytiri and I have Tuk now, we can't be raising another kid." Jake Sully sighed, one hand perched on his hip, the other on his forehead.
Norm peered up at him with a scowl on his face, the sight reminded Jake of when he first joined the Avatar program, when Norm despised him. "Well what if I don't want to handle it anymore, Jake? Max and I have studies to do, we have jobs! Spider is old enough to live in the forest with your family, we have Exo-Packs that will last long enough."
Spider listened to the conversation in his curled-up state, not bothering to move an inch to let his presence known. He wanted to hear this conversation, he knew it was a turning point in his life.
Norm had never admitted his dislike for Spider, and that's what kept Spider there. Alive. Long story short, Norm's tolerance of Spider kept him from placing his life in the hands of Eywa.
So what did Spider really have to live for if not for Norm?
He knew it sounded stupid, he knew it sounded absolutely ridiculous to put an important aspect at such risk. But Norm was the only one who looked out for him, in a very basic sense, but still.
Spider's eyelids fluttered as he tried to contain the tears shoving mercilessly at them. Jake's response was long-awaited, and Spider knew it would just be another punch to his already bruised gut.
"I-.."
"I don't want Spider with my family. Lo'ak and Kiri are preparing for their Iknimaya, and Tuk is still growing up. Not to mention how Neytiri would feel about it.."
"I don't think it's a good idea for him to be with us anymore."
Well there you have it then.
I don't think it's a good idea for him to be with us anymore.
Jake couldn't have been clearer.
An uncomfortable silence settled over the room, heavy like the fog that clouded Spider's mind. Oh, how he wished he could've been anywhere else. In Room painting on his wall, reading a book about the newest constellation he'd discovered, swimming in the training pools.
It's funny how he never realized how much he missed Room until he wasn't in it anymore.
It was beginning to feel like he wouldn't get to see Room again, his closest friend, and it was a fucking room.
That's all Room was. A room.
A room that he had convinced himself was living. A room where he felt safe and content, and sometimes lonely. But Room kept him warm when Norm couldn't, and Room never turned him away.
And. It. Was. A. Fucking. Room.
Maybe Spider would be happy if his only friend wasn't a room inside an old military base. Maybe that's what he needed, a friend. A friend on Earth.
Norm let out a string of incomprehensible curses before storming out of the room, leaving Jake and Spider alone.
"Fuck this shit." Jake turned and walked off in the opposite direction, and Spider wasn't sure it was the right one. Oh well, at least now he could wallow in his own filth.
Only then did he open his eyes. And boy, was it horrible.
His vision was hazy, and it just wouldn't focus on anything. His stomach was coiled tight and cramping painfully, a dull ache crawling its way up his chest and throat. He realized what was happening a little too late as he sat up, thick streams of vomit pouring out from his mouth as he gagged and wretched.
"Fan-fucking-tastic." Spider muttered, wiping his mouth weakly with the back of his hand. He slid off the table, a sigh leaving his lips. As he walked in the same direction as Jake, he created a checklist in his head.
Shower and get this disgusting vomit off.
Pack up his things.
Say goodbye to Room.
Leave.
It would be easier said than done.

*me giving the most traumatized characters more trauma*
Anyways- ONE OF MY FAVOURITE AVATAR WRITERS REPOSTED THE FIRST CHAPTER!?!?!? WHAT? I'm sobbing.
Also Spider is so Merida from Brave and Rapunzel from Tangled idc if they're princesses :) The wall of stars is heavily based off of Rapunzel's paintings of the lanterns because why not?
Oh also- Does anyone know how to add a link to a chapter on Tumblr? I'm so lost :')

BESTIE?? WHAT-
THIS IS SO GOOD?? I WUV THIS!
Take It Easy - What If Spider Never Left Hell's Gate?
Spider always wished he would be able to leave the lab, to finally venture out into the forest he had grown up hearing about. But no, he was stuck inside a metal box with a group of scientists who never batted an eye toward him, other than when he got into trouble, of course.
He knew the rules, and he followed them. Day after day, week after week, year after year. He followed them. He watched the clock tick by from inside the labs, he peered over Norm's shoulder as the older man worked, he even began to study astrology. Max began to call him the Man Of The Stars.
Life fell into a steady rhythm after his sixteenth birthday. He'd wake up and hit the old RDA-made gym, shower, do his long list of chores, and head to work. The rhythm never, ever changed. And he was finally okay with it. He stopped looking out the window, he stopped wondering what mysteries the forest held, and he stopped thinking of the yellow-eyed girl who haunted his dreams.
That was until the rhythm got absolutely fucked up the day Jake Sully walked into the labs. The behemoth Na'Vi entered through the airlock and scared the shit out of Spider, causing him to drop all of his astrology books.
"Dang it. Can you watch where you're fuckin' going, dude? Norm's gonna kill me if I damage these." Spider bent down to pick up the books, flicking his curly hair out of his face with a huff. He flinched slightly as a heavy hand came to rest on his shoulder.
"What did you just say to me, kid?" The human boy's eyes widened as he looked up at Jake. The Na'Vi swore that if he had a tail, it would be between his legs at that very moment. "Might want to watch your mouth 'round me."
Spider opened his mouth to reply but it was cut short as he looked at his watch. "Oh for fuck- I'm late for work!" He sprinted off in the opposite direction, leaving Jake alone in the entranceway. The boy leaped over the stray carts and tables, sliding underneath some of the scientist's legs as he made his way to Room.
'Room' was the word he used for the massive gym building that housed everything he needed. There was a jungle gym, a rock-climbing wall, rows and rows of bookshelves, a telescope, and a desk.
On the farthest side of Room, was his art wall. It was covered in colourful paintings that he'd crafted over the years, most of them were of the stars he saw.
Spider set his books down on his desk before walking over to the art wall, setting his hands on his hips as if deep in thought. Over the expanse of his lifetime, he only ever drew the stars, never actually seeing them. He wasn't ever allowed outside of airlock, even on his birthdays. Sure, Norm and Max promised to take him on their supply runs, but every time they left him alone in Room. It was starting to feel like Room was his only friend.
Even though he had left the life of wonderment and curiosity behind, a small part of him still wanted to get out of Room and see the stars. Or see anything, for that matter. Anything but Room, or the labs, or airlock. He wanted to climb something other than the rock wall, he wanted to study something other than the stars in his books, he wanted to be on the other side of airlock.
He wanted to be outside.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Spider.. Spider- SPIDER! SPI-
Spider rolled over and smacked Lo'ak over the head with a scowl. His legs were still very much tangled in his sheets, so when he attempted to get out of his bed, he ended up banging his head into the wall with a grunt.
"Hey monkey boy! Dad said we could visit you today." Kiri lifted him up by the back of his neck with a grin. "You sleep in awfully late."
Spider grumbled angrily. He walked over to his chest of draws and pulled out some of Norm's old jean shorts that he had cut himself, pulling them on quickly. They reached just below his knees and were so loose he had to tie a shoestring around his waist. He then donned his tank top to replace it with yet another tank top. But oh- This one was so different! It was just one shade darker than the other! Score.
He then pulled on his shoes and military-issued boots. Nothing seemed to work to cover his teenager stink, so he ended up over-spraying his lynx deodorant. Next was his hair which had been cut into a very unruly mop of curls, which Kiri tied into a man-bun atop his head.
"C'mon bro, show us your life in this.. Shack!" Lo'ak grinned.
Spider rolled his eyes before opening his bedroom door, setting off in the direction of Room in silence. Lo'ak and Kiri were nice and all, but they didn't seem to understand the differences they had. Spider was human, while they were Na'Vi. And to be honest, he didn't really like being around them. All he wanted to do was work and chores, so he could play in Room. That was literally all he needed to do before he got sent back to earth on his eighteenth birthday. He could finally be back where he belonged.
"Uh. This is Room. I work in here most of the time, don't touch anything." Spider pulled the curtains covering his paintings down, inspecting the newest set of stars he'd painted the night before.
Kiri's jaw dropped open in awe. Her thin fingers skimmed over the paint, feeling each groove and dip of the concrete wall. "You painted these all yourself?"
Spider nodded.
"They are very good, Spider. You should keep up with it. Maybe some of the village Elders might want some?"
That drew a pretty loud snort from Spider. "I can't give them away, they're literally etched in stone." He walked forward to stand beside Kiri, his voice lowering to a pained whisper. "There's no real talent here anyway."
Spider, who always saw himself as nothing but an unwilling addition to the humans, never had someone to praise him or congratulate him when he did something good. Spider spent his entire life alone in Room, and at first he told himself that he was worth something.
'Don't worry Spider, Norm doesn't hate you. What he told Max wasn't true!'
'Don't worry Spider, Jake wasn't lying when he said your paintings were good!'
But Norm did hate him, and his paintings were crap. So there was no point convincing himself that he was worth something.
"C'mon bro! These are awesome, definitely better than Tuk's." Lo'ak snickered, slapping Spider on the back. The human boy gritted his teeth together and turned away from the Na'Vi teenagers. They didn't get it, they never could get it. They had parents, they had siblings, they had friends. He had nothing.
"Can you fuck off for once?" The words had left his mouth before he could stop them.
Lo'ak's grin dropped, and Kiri flinched away from him.
An incredible silence settled over the three, and it stretched on for way too many minutes before a voice spoke up on the other side of Room.
"Lo'ak, Kiri. Your mom says its time to go home." Norm poked his head through the double doors. Spider stomped toward the man and shoved him out of the way. He had no clear idea of where he was going, but he knew he couldn't be around them anymore.
-----------------
It'll get more interesting I promise <3

I've always thought about this scenario: Quaritch surrenders to the Sullys when Neytiri threatens Spider without Quaritch having Kiri. Jake brings him to the Metkayina village to keep an eye on him, but having both the Sully family and Quaritch in such close proximity causes Spider's already conflicted feelings about both to skyrocket. Not to mention he can't be too close to one without feeling like he's betraying the other...
Love your work! 💙
Ahhh!! 😍😍 This is such a cool concept. Sorry, once again this starts as a hypothetical WOULD, and turns at some point into a one-shot narrative! Anyway I think Jake/Neytiri/Tonowari/Ronal would all be baying for Quaritch's blood and wouldn't let the man leave the ship alive, but say that they did:
Quaritch would immediately throw his knife down when he saw Spider under Neytiri's grasp. When Neytiri releases Spider he'd snarl and spit every threat under the sun at Jake, all the while determinedly avoiding eye contact with Spider, who of course watches on from the sides, stunned and clutching Kiri for support.
Quaritch would be dragged away by the Metkayina warriors, perhaps to be held in Awa'atlu until Eywa has passed her judgement on him. Jake would come over to check on Spider, but the boy would be shellshocked, not sure who is family was anymore.
Neytiri had just tried to kill him. Quaritch had just saved him.
And he was supposed to be with the Sullys? It didn't sit right - it rocked him to his core. He was non-verbal the whole way back to the village, trying to figure out how to possibly move forwards with the situation.
He would stay away from where Quaritch was being kept. At first because he was too scared to face the man, and then because the Metkayina wouldn't allow him in. The strain and the anxiety got too much until one night, when the Sullys were all asleep, and only two guards remained on the door to the hut where Quaritch was being kept prisoner, Spider snuck in to visit him.
The man wasn't asleep, as Spider had expected. He was sat against the wooden wall, his face half cast in shadow and half illuminated by the watery moonlight. Spider paused, unsure if he wanted to continue. He steeled himself. He had to ask why Quaritch did it.
As he approached, Quaritch looked up, stilled, then smiled low and ominously. It made the hairs on the back of Spider's neck stand up. Like this, the man looked evil. "Couldn't stay away huh kid?"
Spider swallowed. He got as close to the bars as he dared. "I had to see you," he whispered.
Quaritch turned to face him full on, revealing the deep, bloody scratches he had on the side of his face. They were reminiscent of the human Quaritch's scars. "Why?" the man asked, low and simple and clean.
Spider frowned, searching for the words. "I... had to talk to you... to ask... why you saved me."
Quaritch huffed a small laugh. "So it really wasn't a bluff huh? That's crazy..."
Spider watched him continue, not daring to speak again.
"That woman supposed to be your family? Jesus kid, you're more fucked up than I thought." He didn't say it unkindly, but Spider bristled at the insinuation.
"What the hell would you know about family?" he hissed, trying to keep his voice low so as not to alert the guards.
"Enough to know that blood is thicker than water. Which is clearly true here..."
Spider gasped as though stung, but he understood Quaritch's words. It was only painful because hearing them spoken out loud for the first time confirmed all his darkest, most resentful thoughts.
Quaritch shifted, bringing himself closer to the bars and raising a hand to grip one at eye level. "Spider. I will always protect you. Hell," he chuckled, looking around at the cell. "Even from a shithole like this, if there is any way I can protect you, I will." His eyes bore into Spider's, and suddenly Spider couldn't breathe. The world was silent - nothing existed but the two of them. Even the walls seemed to be listening.
"Dad-" Spider choked out, grabbing the bars separating them in both hands. Quaritch's hand came through and cupped Spider's face, pulling him closer until they were touching foreheads against Spider's mask.
"It's okay," Quaritch spoke quietly. "I'll get out of this, don't you worry about me. And when I do, I'm not leaving without you."
His words sounded too much like Spider was a prisoner of the Metkayina, or perhaps the Sullys, but he didn't have the energy to correct the man. "Okay," he mumbled back through the bars, because it was the only thing he was capable of saying. Quaritch's hand came down from his head and he backed away.
"You should go, Spider." Quaritch nodded at entrance to the room, where the guards were waiting. "If they catch you I imagine you'll be in a whole world of trouble."
"Okay," Spider repeated, shaking himself back to the moment. "I'll come back..."
He backed towards the depression under the wooden wall that he'd crawled through to get inside. As he looked back over his shoulder, he saw Quaritch smirking, retreating back into the shadows. "Don't kid, I'll find you."
How the turn tables! I love the imagery of Quaritch behind bars and now Spider is the one on the captor's side. I don't know if Spider would actually go with Quaritch, and it is beSide the poinT for this little drabble 😭

and that's why Spider does need love. LIKE SEE, FIRST WE HAVE JAKE
SO AS WE ALL KNOW THAT JAKE HIMSELF WAS A FUCKING HUMAN. YOU HEAR ME?? HE WAS A HUMAN. yes, so he should have at least tried to help him out, because he went through similar shit.
now, Neytiri, see, I do like her and all. she has trauma. yes. does that give her the right to push away Spider or abandon him? no. I can elaborate.
of course trauma gives you well some trauma, and has a traumatic response and stuff. but again, you cannot just abandon a child? the reason simply can't be because he is the child of your enemy. if we use that logic, then every villain's son/daughter should be a villain.
well, and of course to make shit worse, the scientists did not really care that much?? I mean I have not read the High Camp yest, but there are barely adults actually giving a shit about him?
he was a child when he literally told Ardmore to kill him. he had his fucking loyalty but of course no one cares about that do they?
and let's not start with quaritch. ok, I get it he has committed atrocious crimes, and then Spider got slight attached to him. yes, he did get attached to him and that's because he gave a shit about him, even though it was not much but yes he did.
and if you all hate him because he pulled him out of the water, that's because he remembered how Quaricth cared about his wellfare. He wants to give him a chance, that there might be some redemption. It's even mentioned in the wiki of avatar, under the section of relationships, family, father.
AND THE THING IS THAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND JAKE-
yes no, he was a human, yet Neytiri was fine with it. why? then what's the problem with spider? even Jake was a human. Even Jake was an enemy.
She literally abondened him because? he is Quaritch's son? that's the reason or is it that he is a human. Like I get the trauma and stuff but still.
12am incoherent Spider rant incoming:
The fact that a huge portion of Spider fans sympathise with him because they had similar family experiences in life is low-key making me feel kinda weird about people who hate him. Like let us recap the events real quick-
Like why do you hate a kid who did more to keep the Na’vi safe than Jake through the entire movie? “They’re after us” ok? This is not just about you dumbass it’s a whole-ass war, the RDA will still want to find the rest of your tribe because they want to ERADICATE your people 😐 the fact that it took him MONTHS to realise that running will not save anyone is 😬 (though I can get behind it bc family and all)
How is it that a goddamn 16 year old was the one who carried the good guy team??? 😐😐😐 he saved tribes from getting murdered, like literally, Tonowari said that no one had died, WONDER WHY???? DO Y’ALL THINK QUARITCH WAS NICE OUTTA NOWHERE???
And then he sunk a ship. HE SUNK A SHIP BY HIMSELF????
AND THEN HE INDIRECTLY SAVED KIRIS AND JAKE’S LIFE????
“He backstabbed them” I know you’re not blaming him for it when Neytiri exists 🧍 bestie outright REFUSED to help a literal child and didn’t bat an eye when he got captured. I can get behind her putting a knife to his throat in a rush of emotion but to very clearly ABANDON him? Fuck off. If her active decision to leave him behind didn’t turn into the reef Na’vi’s literal saving grace I’d be hating on her so actively.
“He saved his homocidal dad after he promised to murder his family” first of all the Sullys NEVER adopted him and it’s made abundantly clear. You sound like a gaslighter when you use that rhetoric. 😐📸
And secondly — HELL YEAH HE DID???? I would too if I was him and so would you and so would we all because Miles is the first grown up who GAVE A SHIT. MILES GENUINELY CARED. “It’s morally wrong” NO CAP 😀😀😀 NO ONE SAYS IT WAS RIGHT BUT THE KID HAD A SPLIT SECOND TO MAKE A DECISION AND HE CHOSE NOT TO BE A MURDERER.
You know what else is morally wrong tbw? Neglecting a child for 16 years.
“B-but they had no obligation to take care of a human kid—” cry me a fucking river 😐 what they want or not doesn’t fucking matter when we are talking about the mental health of an actual living breathing being. They ALL (the scientists, the Sullys and even the mf McKoskers or whatever the hell their last name is) were morally obligated to give that kid the best they could to ensure that he wouldn’t turn out like his father BECAUSE THEY’RE ADULTS.
The fact that their collective neglect DIDN’T blow up in their face is a pure miracle. Thant kid had every right to turn evil and burn the village that rejected him to feel it’s warmth but he DID NOT. In fact he is so goddamn kind and compassionate that he sees good even in a piece of shit monster like Quaritch.
It’s mind-blowing when we consider the lack of parental love and guidance throughout his life.
Tumblr media
☝️ THIS is the kid you’re hating on???? Bc it’s starting to look suspiciously toxic 👀💅
Pay my boy some respect. He was a literal hero and y’all act like the Omatekaya, ignoring whatever good he might do and then point fingers at him when he does something morally questionable LIKE ITS NOT JAKES FAULT??? LIKE THE REST OF THE ADULTS ARE NOT AT FAULT TOO??
Neglect makes people vulnerable. Vulnerable enough for an asshole to swoop in and manipulate them and it is only thanks to Spider’s unyielding loyalty and heart that neither Ardmore, nor Miles had pulled anything out of him in MONTHS of captivity. They had NO idea where Jake or Omatekaya were until Norm fucked it all up with his trackable ship.
Listen I love all the blorbos, but the parents dug their own grave so to speak. You fumble the bag repeatedly and then get surprised when it flies into your face? 🤨
Anyway, I’m out. Might delete this later idk.

the perfect son
Silence has always been my loudest scream. -@little-box-of-autism
tw; not proof read, grammar??
Neteyam te Suli Tsyeyk’itan had always been the perfect son. Had always been a perfect solider, a perfect brother.
That was all Neteyam was. And fun fact, he hated it. No, hate would not be the correct word, he loathed it.
He was always envious of his siblings,Lo'ak, Spider, Kiri and Tuk. They never really had to go through what he had to. They were free, and he wanted that freedom.
But more than the freedom, he wanted his childhood. Now,don't get him wrong. He did not have a bad childhood, but it was the expectations, the constant pressure, the constant need to be the example which would be followed by Lo'ak and other children. He did not want those things.
He wanted to spend time with his brothers and sisters. He wanted to have friends which he never had.
He hated the spotlight being thrown on him, he always hated it. He did not want to be perfect, he did not.
"Of course! Dad's perfect little solider, how will you ever understand what I went through?" Lo'ak, his younger brother screamed at him.
"I-"
"Exactly, you don't-"
"Lo'ak, brother-" he so badly wanted to voice in. He wanted to shake him and tell him, that it was so not glorious.
"Don't! You never understood me, nor will you! You will never understand, how I feel and-and that how-"
"Well," Neteyam spoke, rage bubbling in his chest, "you will understand why I was the perfect son! I-I had to be it, always listening to father. Always follow commands! Always, Neteyam this, Neteyam that-"
He took a deep breath. He wanted to calm down, but there was no going back.
He continued,"You got to do what you wanted, you got to be with your friends, you got everything I wanted! I wanted the freedom, the freedom of being a child without expectations."
He jabbed a finger on Lo'ak's chest. "But of course how could you know that?"
Lo'ak trembled. He stuttered, "Why didn't ask for help?"
Neteyam gave him a gloomy look. "Silence has always been my loudest scream."
Neteyam walked away.
And Lo'ak had come to the realization of the sad reality of his brother. The reality he could never ignore.

and here I go writing a fic- I will tag you!
(kiri literally some times considering to knock him out but then does not want to-
did I mention lo'ak and spider are besties?? like they are best friends and they mostly hang out together, and be chatoic as heck together-)
Spider Modern AU cause I can't help myself
I’ve seen so many people doing this and I love so much so I shall be participating as well. I’ll also be doing other characters but this post is dedicated to Spider rn. I should really be working on my finals rn but here I am.
Spider is 100% a theater kid. Like no question about it. This kid can sing, he can dance, he can do gymnastics. He’s the theatre troupe’s pride and joy honestly, he’s always pulling big stunts that wow the audience. This also ties into his love of storytelling in general so of course he’s a theatre kid. Which ALSO means a lot of his playlist is musical songs cause.. ya know, obviously. I’d imagine Kiri actually secretly gave him access to her Spotify so he’d got access to premium (secret meaning everybody but Neytiri knows tbh).
I think Spider actually does pretty well academically. He’s a fast learner and his brain absorbs things like a sponge so once he understands a concept, it’s all A’s for him. It kind of pisses Kiri off how smart he is without trying sometimes, but she’s also super proud of him for proving his haters (and her mom) wrong.
This kid is the Anti-Bully of the school. He sees anyone bullying anyone and he’s already aiming a punch at their face. Because of that, he’s kind of seen as the protector of underclassmen and targets in general so he’s pretty well liked generally, except for by the traditionally popular kids. Also not super popular with parents cause all that really sticks in their heads is violent Tarzan kid. He kind of stops with the physical violence once Kiri expresses her worry for him and how she doesn’t want him to just blindly resort to violence all the time. But then he starts making comments to bullies that piss them off equally so there’s no real winning for him here lol.
I think Spider likes working with his hands a lot so on top of acting in theatre, he also comes up with and constructs a lot of things for set and they always look incredible.
Also, inspired by @be-the-glenn-to-my-maggie ’s latest post, he joins the cheer team in solidarity with Lo'ak because he wants to get close to Tsireya. Refer to her post for more detail on that, I reblogged it if that helps.
Despite being a year older than both Neteyam and Kiri, Spider and Neteyam actually share a lot of classes because Neteyam is a star student and skipped a grade. Kiri could probably also skip a grade if she wanted to, but her head’s a little too in the clouds during classtime for any of her teachers to recommend it, even if she does get good grades.
Spider still has his hair long, though I’m not sure if he would let it just endlessly keep growing or he would trim it here and there to his shoulders just to manage the curls a bit. I imagine his hair grows pretty fast so maybe once a year he chops it back to his shoulders and in like three months it’s already almost to his elbows. He’s gotten pretty good at braiding though, so when he can’t be bothered to put effort into maintaining his curls, he just brushes his hair violently and braids it all in like dutch braids or other complicated hairstyles. The girls’ soccer team probably starts recruiting him to braid their hair before games (based on my own experience lmao).
On a more serious note with his home situation… I think as a kid he was probably passed through multiple foster homes and all of them kind of said that he’s too much for them. Then he ends up with the McCoskers and while they’re not ideal they never say anything like that or try to get rid of him (yes they neglect him but seeing how he was treated before and they’re not kicking him out, he’s okay with them just giving him a place to stay). At least I’d imagine until maybe something big happens like he overworks himself or something and who notices other than the new family in town? The Tonowari family. And then they swoop in and are like ‘mine now’ and Spider’s just like what? Unconditional love? A home where they notice I’m gone? Where I don’t have to find my own food? What is this?
BUT IF TRUDY LIVED: so I imagine as a kid he’d still maybe be passed through the foster system a little, but Trudy is invested in his well-being, she’s just still convinced there’s some couple out there who’d be better for Spider overall until she sees all of them rejecting this perfect kid and she’s like screw it and screw my own problems, I’ll work through them for this kid but I’m taking him. And he’s a happy boy thank you very much, loves his mama to death.
I’ll probably have stuff to add eventually but take this for now.

I love this sm!
here is a little more adding-
he is dam good at studies, which is why he helps Lo'ak a lot with studies. he does help others with tutoring them too!
he is also in the process of some honors and other work. he does know that neytiri hate him and he does want to be loved, but honestly he is so torn in what does he actually want.
oh and the poor boy is overworked and burnt out a lot. He is naturally gifted in so many things and always gets dragged in stuff, so of course he is burnt out.
most people don't really see it?? because he can fool it a lot- but kiri does (so do the tonowari and ronall!)
honestly I can see kiri giving him a lecture about well being, and giving him food. she always makes sure he does eat because he forgets to eat for long time-
oh and when ronal comes? oh gawd-
so basically they adopt him, yes. he gets the cuddles, he needs, he gets the hugs, the affection that he always craved but was never able to get it because he was a problem child.
ano'ung maybe younger then him for a year or two, but boy he is over protective, the number of times he got in a fight because of spider, he is a little shit to him.
tseriya is sooo babying him, like literally bathes him with her own shampoo, gives hm spa days, there lazy ones. the ones hwen he does not have to work.
now tonawari, he is a strict dad but soft too. of course he has his own bunch of rules but that does not mean he won't allow his kids to do what they want. he and ronal are always there for all his performance, everything, then attend it!

our (broken) bond
I'm not the person you left behind anymore; there is no one here to miss. -@little-box-of-autism
tw; not proof read, grammar??
I'm not the person you left behind anymore; there is no one here to miss.
Kiri's head rang with those words when she connected to Ewya. In hopes of seeing her mother, (and finding more stuff about herself) she was met with Spider.
It was not the first time when she had connected to Ewya. She did before, and ended up with a seizure but this time she was far more prepared.
Anyways back to the current events which had followed the very day. They (she cannot speak for her parents, rather for her siblings) had missed him so much!
So imagine her happiness when she saw him. (even though he was with those people, she did care about that, at least she could meet him) It was at the human camp, in his room. There were trinkets in a side, with some pebbles too. Everything seemed normal.
Except it wasn't.
"Spider!" She said, looking around his room. He was not there. Strange.
She turned around, to find Spider. "Spider, how nice to meet you!"
She was happy, of course she was very happy. Why wouldn't she be? However, she quickly noticed his eyes were rather hollow. There were also no blue stripes painted as they usually were. A frown settled down on her face.
"...Spider?"
"You left me, Kiri." His voice was slow, hurt, defeated. "You all left me."
The room changed, it had blood smeared. The pictures he had with her and her family were torn. It was more of a cell than a room. Spider was still there, his eyes hollow. No emotion on his face. His lips in a straight line as he stared into her soul.
"No-" She spoke, trying to protest. It made her feel furious, not at him, but at herself, and more precisely at her parents. She was pleasantly disturbed by the room too, disgust written on her face.
"What am I to you?" She blinked and he was gone.
"Spider! I am here for you-"
"Don't," he snapped, "don't you dare! You said that, didn't you? Then why did you leave me?"
His voice was booming, he was not be seen. There was no trace of him...almost as if he had disappeared.
"I never did, Spider! You are precious to me-"
There was silence. "I am not."
"You are!"
"You flee without me," the voice sneered, "you left me in clutched of monster, you let me go because I had demon blood...and you claim to care for me? Heck, you never cared for me.I was nothing but an unwanted stray cat."
Kiri stiffened, and she almost cried. She wanted to cry so bad-
How could she imagine him, Spider, to think he was unwanted? When, he was quite literally gold to her (not only her but Lo'ak, Tuk and Neteyam).
The voice boomed again and continued, "I'm not the person you left behind anymore; there is no one here to miss."
And she snapped back to reality. She was under the ocean and pulled her tswin. She needed to breath-
She needed air.
She quickly reached for the surface (she did not know how, almost as if she forgot how to swim, kicking her legs and somehow managing to reach the surface) and gasped for the much needed oxygen. She took one last glance at Ewya before calling her ilu and leaving. She could not bare this, anything but this-
She wanted to go back, to comfort him. To scream at him, for being a dumbass that he thought no one cared for her. She wanted to but she also knew it very well that whatever he spoke was true. She knew what that it was true. Whatever she just saw. She knew that very well but did not want to believe it
That, they had abandoned him. That they had left him behind, that it was their fault. That, they should have searched for him.

the prophecy
The child not embraced by the village, will burn it down to feel its warmth. -@little-box-of-autism
tw; not proof read, grammar??
The village was on fire as a human stood in the middle, marvelling and gawking at the flames like they were waves. Sometimes they were higher than others, sometimes they were lower. He never really understood the human desire to burn, to destroy if being more precise.
Some screams were heard, some were crying. And here he could feel the warmth he had always longed for.
He let out a sigh, he finally felt the warmth he had always longed for. He could hear the distinct screaming of his name. He did not care about it, he ignored it.
"Spider!" A voice screamed, it was all too familiar and he grinned. Well aware, knowing whose voice it was.
The child not embraced by the village, will burn it down to feel its warmth.
That was a prophecy of Omaticaya. It was announced when Lo'ak was born. The time when he was barely a child, heck, was he even a child?
He never understood what those words meant, but now he did. He knew they meaning of those dam well.
"Spider!" The voice screamed again, louder this time.
He turned his back and a smile fluttered on his face. It was who he expected it to be. Lo'ak.
He was out of breath, panting and gasping for the precious air that he needed to survive. The home tree had been burnt again.
"We-we have to go-" He could barely made sense of what Lo'ak had uttered but he understood.
"No we don't." He hummed back, taking in the magnificent view in front of him, the awe struck gaze which lingered as he watched even more trees burn. Oh dear, he is feeling giddy now.
"What do you mean?" Now, Spider knew clearly that Lo'ak knew it was Spider who started this-
Chaos.
But he chose to refuse it. How, naive. "I won't go." He replied to him, almost as if it was obvious.
"You have to bro-"
"Lo'ak," Spider stated coldly, "till what time are you about to pretend that we both know it was I who had started the fire?"
To be frank he was starting to get annoyed with all this. With this conversation in particular.
He expected a remark from Lo'ak but was greeted with silence. "Why?" It was a bare whisper. He would have almost missed it if he did not pay attention.
"Never mind that. We will discuss all this when he get to father and mother, they will tell your punish-"
"I won't go Lo'ak. How many times will I tell you that?" Spider inquired, all he wanted was to stay in the forest.
"You have to!" Lo'ak raised his voice, it was not a scream but it was high pitched almost like a snarl.
"Oh, please, I have no interest in all that." Now, Lo'ak was usually a calm person (or so he described him to be) but his temper was boiling at this rate.
"You have to live-" At this point his voice was trembling, it was an emotion Spider could not decipher as to what it was.
"Says who?"
"Spider! I beg you to come with me, please. I will make sure that-"
And Spider could not help but roll his eyes. Lo'ak never stood up for him so what will he do now. The flames were getting even more hotter. It almost felt like he had descended into madness...or maybe he had always been this mad.
"Look at the view," Spider sang, "two friends fighting! Isn't it amazing?" He asked a dead audience.
"Please-"
He spun around to face him, a small sad smile on his face. "I have always been lonely Lo'ak," his voice was rather of sorrow and desperation of a child who wanted nothing but love, "and that's why I burnt down the whole village, to feel it's warmth." He finished and took a deep sigh.
"The love I always wanted, but oh how will you know that? You had always got what you wanted well not that much but still you got enough. While me? I did not have anything. So, tell me brother dearest, how am I supposed to not descend into madness?" He asked.
"You were never-" Lo'ak wanted to protest but knew that it did not have any meaning.
"I am just a stray cat, brother. Nothing, but a stray cat."
He did not bother letting him speak as he gently took his brother's hand in his as he showed him a spot. It had less fire compared to the rest of the forest. There was some greenery, some forest, something which was not burnt. It was for escaping. "Run," he said to Lo'ak gently. "run away, from here, save yourself and others from me."
...because the Spider is not only dangerous to himself but others too.

Dialogue Prompts:
"I shouldn't have been born, and no one was happy that I was."
"I'm...tired. I just want this to be over."
"You're my brother." "We haven't been brothers in a long time, you made sure of that."
“I wish I had a time machine so I can go back and stop that from happening.”
"None of it was real, but sometimes I wish it was."
"I want to go home, but I realized I never really had one."
"I told them to kill me because I knew you wouldn't come for me."
"I will never be good enough for you, will I?"
"I never saw you, and that was my fault, not yours."
"I thought I could trust you! I trusted you and you killed my brother!"
Quote Prompts:
The child not embraced by the village, will burn it down to feel its warmth.
Children are what you make of them, so don't be surprised when the child you called a monster becomes one.
I'm not the person you left behind anymore; there is no one here to miss.
Silence has always been my loudest scream
I'm standing in the ashes of who I used to be.
You will always remember the day your childhood died before your eyes.
I could have been anyone, anyone else before you made the choice for me.
You hanged onto hope like a rope, but now it's like a noose around your neck.
The sins of the father are such a heavy thing to bear.
It's a strange thing, isn't it? To look at someone you once called brother and find a stranger in their place.
Concepts:
Lo'ak reacted violently when he learned Spider saved Quaritch. It's been five years and when he sees Spider again, he can't ignore the scars he gave him.
Neytiri's cut on Spider's chest scars badly; a long jagged red line across his chest, spanning diagonally from his shoulder to the bottom of his ribs. It becomes a painful, and very visible, reminder of that night on the Sea dragon.
Spider runs away/disappears when he is 12/13 after a confrontation with Neytiri, it takes a few days for the adults to notice but by the time they do it's too late. They never find Spider, or his remains, and this drives a wedge between Lo'ak and Kiri and the rest of the family. When the Sully's arrive in Awa'atlu, they see Spider for the first time in years, only he is now the son of Tonowari and Ronal, and he doesn't need a mask.
"The animals like Spider, they're his friends." That's the only explanation they get from Tuk, or any of their children, after finding Spider playing around with a thanator cub, as it's mother watches.
It takes three days for someone to notice there is something wrong with Spider; to notice the way his speech with suddenly slur, the random nose bleeds, or the way his eyes will glaze over, and he'll just stare at nothing. No one notices any of that, not until Spider is convulsing on the beach in front of everyone.
