I know the wig in DOFP is tacky, but I love Quicksilver with long hair. I figured I’d put it into a little bun! :)

I headcannon that Pietro originally had no interest in finding their father, whilst Wanda desperately wanted to get to know him. She’d write down all the questions she wanted to ask him in a notebook in hopes that someday he’d answer them. After she died, Pietro went searching for Erik with her notebook in tow just so that he could deliver on his sister’s wishes.

There’s something quite beautiful about the fact that Erik’s first physical contact with another person in 10 full years was his son holding his neck to protect him from whiplash as he was rescued.

Whilst I understand this point of view, I do have to disagree to an extent. I don’t think Fox Quicksilver lacks personality, quite the contrary actually. He’s overflowing with personality.
The problem lies within the fact that he lacks character depth beyond mere speculation. His role in DOFP is supposed to be (somewhat) minor and serve a singular purpose, whilst MCU Quicksilver has a detailed story to follow. Pietro is much more involved in the main plot of the film he stars in comparatively. He has motivations and goals that connect to the story in a meaningful way. That doesn’t necessarily mean he’s the better version of the character, nor is it a requirement to be. But these aspects stand out to certain crowds and understandably appeals to them more.
Fox does give Quicksilver an actual storyline in the following X-men film (Apocalypse), but it remains unresolved so therefore unsatisfactory. Which is unfortunate because the premise was so interesting. Don’t even get me started on how he was treated in Dark Phoenix..
A very unpopular opinion I have, is that ATJ's version of Quicksilver (MCU) is a better character than the Fox Quicksilver. I have many reasons; the biggest one is that Evan Peters' QS barely has any personality. I mean, I like him a lot, he has better looking scenes and seems cool overall, but he doesn't strike me in the same way MCU Quicksilver does. He had a backstory, his reasons for being against the Avengers, and he had such a good bond with Wanda. You could feel his protectiveness of her. He also had a way cooler character design, in my opinion. I loved his hair a lot and the light trail that was left behind as he sped away. IDK he just felt like a real person to me, someone whose life was cut short tragically. MCU underutilized the hell out of him. However, he'll always be the better Quicksilver to me. I also do not understand why people wanted Fox QS to be integrated into the MCU so much… He does not fit in, IMO.

It’s kinda weird realising that Evan Peters would currently be about the same age that Pietro is in the Dark Phoenix movie…

As much as I love the fanwork for the Dadneto and Quickson duo, theres not enough appreciation for them when they’re old. Pietro is always depicted as a teenager or a young adult, as we’re shown in the films, because its easier to project ourselves into that (Lets be honest, we all got daddy issues. Thats why we love them). But I think theres something interesting to explore in a dynamic between father and son who have both roamed the earth for many decades together. I think there would be a lot of tenderness and intimacy in a relationship thats lasted that long.

Not to make myself feel miserable but it hurts thinking about how in DOFP, before Logan changed the timeline, Erik and Peter likely never discovered their familial connection and therefore never built a relationship fundamentally built on that. Which isn’t much different in the new timeline, but at least one of them knew.
It’s never clarified how and when Erik originally escaped, but we know that the events that follow in the new timeline didn’t occur the way they did before. Theres really no telling how long he remained imprisoned, but likely a bit longer. Peter wouldn’t have been the one to break Erik out of the Pentagon; not without Logan there to seek him out. Meaning Erik wouldn’t have been free during that same year and pulling that stunt on live television.
We saw Peter and his mother watch it, and you can tell by her expression that she knew who it was. I headcanon that she came clean about Peter being his son because of this. But since this event only takes place in the new timeline, I can only imagine what became of Future Quicksilver. He never makes an appearance in the OG trilogy, and we never get any closure on his status in DOFP. The only thing we know is that Logan knew him when he was older and states that he could get into anywhere, but thats all. It does imply he may have worked with him in the past, however, that doesn’t explicitly mean he was an X-Man.
In the post-apocalyptic future, the year is 2023. Peter was born in 1956, so he’d be 67 (old man). The opening sequence of DOFP tells us how there are very few mutants left in the world, having all been killed off. Although the Sentinels are very powerful, I can’t grasp how they’d manage to counter Peter’s super-speed, so i’m firm in my belief that he’s still alive. My theory is that he’d been outrunning them the entire time. However, if he travels with others; that may pose as a difficult endeavour.
I can’t stop thinking about how he must’ve been on his own for all those years, not ever knowing that he had father out there. As well as Magneto not knowing he had a son whom was in desperate need of companionship.

It does sort of bother me how often Peter’s feats go ignored by the people he’s helped but I like to imagine that all the sketches on his cast were drawn on by the students he saved, as an acknowledgment of his aid to the school.

Erik didn't only have a mother. He had a father, a sister, an uncle he named himself after, grandparents, cousins... he probably had a big family. They all died, but he didn't. He survived, with no pictures, with no trinkets to remember them by, just himself and his memories.
Do you think he used to watch himself in the mirror, hoping to catch glimpses of his family, rejoicing when he saw his father's nose, his mother's eyes, his sister's hair, his uncle's smile...
One day he watched his reflection and only saw a stranger. He was older than any of them ever got to be.

I feel like no one talks enough about how in Deadpool & Wolverine, Magneto and Quicksilver were mentioned by Gambit to be apart of the resistance group (before perishing in the fight against Cassandra). To my knowledge, it’s not confirmed that they’re the exact same versions from the Fox films, but it did spark some interest in me. The writers of the film could have chosen any other X-men characters to name drop in that scene, but ironically it’s the dadneto + quickson duo. What are the chances?
Erik and Pietro were fighting alongside each other, on the same team. For the first time, they’re forced in close proximity and have to work together, meaning companionship is inevitable. But all at a cost, unfortunately.
Were they sent to the Void together, or are they from seperate universes? Did either of them ever discover their relations to one another? What became of that relationship before their untimely end? I have so many questions that i’ll know go unanswered so I would love to write this scenario into a fic, even if the ending is inevitably sad for both of them.
It’s far from ideal circumstances, but I like to think that they found solace in one another before Cassandra killed them. It makes for a super angsty story, but not without merit.

I really need to catch up on the comics because I just learnt that Pietro and Wanda were initially born in ‘Transia’ (also a fictional country). ‘Sokovia’ is an MCU thing. They’re both based on Slavic countries though, except Transia has borders with Macedonia, Romania and Serbia which all belong to the South Slavic branch.
Macedonian: Петар (Petar), Питер (Piter), Петре (Petre), Перо (Pero), Пере (Pere), Перица (Perica)
Romanian: Petru, Petre, Petrică (diminutive), Petrișor (diminutive)
Serbian: Петар (Petar), Про (Pero), Пера (Pera), Перица (Perica), Периша (Periša)
It’s also worth noting that they’re Balkan countries, which rounded me back to looking up other Romani dialects that Peter could potentially speak. Balkan Romani (Also known as Balkan Roma and Balkaniko Romanes) is what came up for that region.
‘Pietro’ also makes a little more sense now. As I stated earlier, it’s the Italian translation for the name. But due to Transia’s recent revelation to me and its ties with Romania, I dug up that Italy and Romania share close relations. Romanian is, among the Romance languages, close to Italian. Through that I discovered that ‘Petru’ is pronounced similar to ‘Pietro’.
It makes me happy to learn about this because I was a little disappointed by the lack of connection ‘Pietro’ has to Italy despite his name reigning from there but now it sounds much more plausible!
“Peter” or “Pietro”?
I was contemplating Peter’s name, along with its origins. In the comics, he’s originally Pietro which is the Italian version. But both variants derive from the Greek word Petros, meaning “stone” or “rock”, which I find ironic considering Peter is opposite to that.
It got me thinking that whilst it’s normal for people to have foreign names contrary to their nationality, Peter is originally from Sokovia. Although it’s a fictitious place, it’s in between Slovakia and the Czech Republic, which are very much real countries. Meaning it’d be apart of the West Slavs. So this information lead me down a rabbit hole of looking through translations of Peter’s name in languages that relate to him.
Czech: Petr, Péťa (diminutive)
Slovak: Peter, Peťo
Hungarian: Péter, Petya, Peti (diminutive).
I found that Hungarian is the second most spoken mother tongue in Slovakia (9.4% of the population) so I researched that as well.
Both his biological parents (Magda & Erik) were born in Germany, so I searched up the German translation but it also came up with just Peter.
I tried digging up Wanda’s name too, but it appears that it’s very one-dimensional. I couldn’t find any different versions of it, but I did discover its Polish in origin. Of course, I hunted down the Polish translation for Peter’s name in contrast to hers. Interestingly, I discovered there was quite the variety.
Polish: Piotr. Diminutives/hypocoristics include Piotrek, Piotruś, and Piotrunio. (Piotr has several name days in Poland)
Erik (in the movie-verse, as far as i’m concerned) lived in Poland when he formed a new family and even spoke the language as well. Despite it not being his mother tongue, I reckon he would affectionately call Peter “Piotr” under certain circumstances. I like to think so at least.
Amongst all the research I did though, the most challenging was finding Romani translations. I know it’s apart of Peter’s identity, so I wanted to include it. However, I came up short. Unfortunately, it’s not easy to find Romani translations like most other languages. It became really frustrating too since my research kept leading me to Romanian or Roman, even when I made sure the spelling was correct. I found myself disappointed with this dead-end but it also taught me how underrepresented Roma is and how we should keep that in mind.
Nonetheless, I still did some more research on it even if I couldn’t find translations to Peter’s name. I’m aware that the Romani language is diverse, and so I stumbled upon Carpathian Romani. Also known as Central Romani and Romungro Romani. It also happens to be native to Slovakia and the Czech Republic, which we know as the countries surrounding his birthplace.
Apparently, nearly all Romani speakers are multilingual, so I find it credible that Peter would be able to speak this particular dialect, along with Slovakian or Czech (in theory). Whilst I couldn’t find a new variant of “Peter” or “Petros” for this language, I at least have some deeper understanding of his connection to it.
In conclusion; the discussion about whether “Peter” or “Pietro” is better doesn’t really matter, since they’re essentially the same name. Besides, Peter being called all types of versions of the name by different people in his personal circle sounds very appealing me. With his friends, he’s Peter. For Wanda, he’s Pietro. And potentially he’s Piotr for Erik.

I was kind of sad that Erik and Peter don't share any familial name because it means they have even less of a connection to each other as father and son, but here's an interesting fact I learned while googling names: "Maximoff" is a variant of "Maksimov", which means "son of Maksim". "Maksim" is the Russian/Belarusian/Macedonian form of "Maximus". Therefore, Peter Maximoff is the "son of Max[imus]", and Erik's real name is Max! So they kind of are connected through their names!
