Nyssa (TW FOR SA) Nyssa began life as an orphan on the streets of Baldur’s Gate. At a young age, she was sold to a brothel, where she would spend her adolescence. However, the church of Shar finds recruits everywhere, and Dark justiciars plucked her from her miserable life, giving her a home, a purpose, and a deep loyalty to Shar. Unfortunately while she excelled at trickery and subterfuge, she found that she could not handle the more sadistic aspects of Shar worship. And so, throwing herself before the goddess at the Mirror of Loss, she begged that Shar would make her into the perfect weapon in her divine crusade against Selûne. Who was Shar to refuse such an offer? The goddess blessed (or cursed) Nyssa, deadening her emotions — thereby fulfilling her wish to become Shar’s greatest weapon, unflinching and unfeeling at all manner of human suffering. Nyssa was able to rise quickly through the ranks of Shar’s church, ensuring that her will would be done. Now, Nyssa occupies a prominent role in Baldur’s Gate’s high society as a wealthy patron of many businesses and has her hand in almost every pie in the city.

Haragh: A small Selûnite commune in the north of Faerün welcomed in a heavily pregnant human woman, who would give birth to a half-orc. The child, who she named Haragh, was born the color of the moon. Taking this as a good omen, the Selûnites offered refuge to the woman and her child. Haragh would grow up closely with Selûnite novices and take easily to their teachings. A solemn and studious child, she would often memorize Selûnite holy words and cite them in conversation. She would have a pleasant, yet distant relationship with her mother who would not speak at all of her father or the circumstances of her birth. As she grew into adulthood, an attack on her commune would lead Haragh to venture out into the wider world of Faerün, seeking to root out Shar’s darkness once and for all.
