(I already posted this on another thread that came across my dash, but - I just feel like taking out a blimp ad and pasting this in the sky for everyone to see.) Alright, let's make this simple for the folks in the back who didn't like math class, because they'll never use it in their day to day life. This, is a graph. So what is it a graph OF? Well, the X-axis represents the percentage of the electoral college that voted in the President. The more to the left a data point is, the more a Republican victory. The more to the right, the more of a Democratic blowout. A tie would be on the centerline. The Y-axis is simply voter turnout percentage. The data points represent every Presidential election in the modern era - since 1980 with the election of Ronald Reagan for the first time.
Tumblr media
So, notice anything? It might be a little hard to see, since there's a few outliers in there. Notably, three. In 1992 and 1996, Bill Clinton won the Presidential election - and both races were the only two times in the modern era in which a significant third party challenger competed (Ross Perot, winning 18% and 8% of the vote), which heavily skewed results. And in 2001, the 9/11 terror attacks caused a massive wave of nationalist fervor and helped Republicans win in the mid-terms in 2002 and the Presidential election in 2004 on a wave of "rally around the flag" support. That's these three data points.
Tumblr media
So, if you still can't see it, here's a relevant number - of those 11 elections, the average voter turnout was 57.31%. See it yet? No? Let's take those data points out, and draw a line, which should really drive it home.
Tumblr media
Yup. If turnout is low, or average, Republicans win. If turnout is higher than average, Democrats win. Saying that you're going to protest and not vote is NOT "not choosing a side", it's actively helping Republicans win. It's that simple. Voter turnout is the single greatest metric to determine who's going to win and lose a Presidential election in the modern era. That's all it comes down to.
Get. Out. The. Vote.

By existing as a citizen in and paying taxes to the imperial core, we automatically hold complicity in imperialist oppression because we are literally footing the bill for it. That is just the basic nature of being born to privilege in systems of oppression in general. We can be disadvantaged and marginalized in every single other consideration and we still have to understand and cope with this, and ensure we leverage it as effectively as possible.
Voting abstinence/sabotage does not absolve us of our responsibility to do everything in our power to lessen harm, but it DOES show that when our personal morals aren't satisfied, we retreat into (imperialist, this time) privilege to 'wash our hands' of the situation and declare it's not our fault and it's not our problem.

So, the fact that the article quote said "The California University" which is extremely generic, and that "California Olive Branch" doesn't exist made me extremely skeptical of the source of this info. So I clicked on the link aaaaaaand ... it goes to a weed website. But! It still exists on Archive.org and - and the typos are present there and no explanation for "The California University" is given. But at the bottom of the page it attributes another organic health website as the source, which apparently means "plagiarized from" since the text seems nearly identical. And that one attributes a THIRD organic website as the source. At this point I was super suspicious, but the third site actually links to a real university study - UC Davis. It's another dead link however, this time because the website restructured itself at some point between 2017 when this study was first published and now. It's still available on archive.org however, which gives us the title and authors and searching their list of publications gives the study that all of this is based on and the actual source of this information: The current live link to the article as of May 1, 2024. Hopefully this helps someone else who was doubting the authenticity to do their own research -turns out that while those brands failed, it was partial failures across the board, all of them passed at least SOME tests that were performed, so not quite as dire as the original post makes it out to be - I wouldn't throw out any of these brands if I had them in my house, but I might not buy them again either.
This scam made the California University study 124 imported oils and found that over 70% of samples failed the tests.
These failed:
Mezzetta
Carapelli
Pompeian
Primadonna
Mazola
Sasso
Colavita
Star
Antica Badia
Whole Foods
Safeway
Felippo Berio
Coricelli
Bertolli
These brands passed:
Corto olive
Lucero
McEvoy Ranch Organic
Omaggio
California Olive Branch
Bariani Olive oil
Lucini
Ottavio
Olea Estates
Cobram Estate
Kirkland Organic
Also, test the olive oil yourself at home. Put the bottle out when cold, or in the fridge for 30 min. if it gets solid, it is pure and has monounsaturated fats.

I definitely remember this one! Not sure which one it is but I can dig through my history to see if it's visible.
HELP! A shot in the dark here but I’m looking for an old Olicity fanfic I read years ago on ao3 and of course, I can’t remember the title or author 😤 all I remember is a one particular scene ..
Felicity has been injured and oliver is patching her up and given her some painkillers. Felicity decides to take a bit too many and ends up a little overheated and delirious so Oliver leads her to the shower to cool down and she decides to start stripping and get up in his face while he tries so hard to remain a “gentleman”, which he does, then she pretty much passes out. I believe that was the end of a chapter and in the next one, she didn’t remember what she had done and Oliver plays along??
I know it’s not much but any help would be much appreciated as something about this authors writing has obviously stuck with me as I’ve tried searching for it since I read it. Clearly hadn’t discovered the download or bookmark buttons back then😭😂
Thank you xx

I've talked about it before in the author's notes for my story this mess was yours (your mess is mine), but Ranma 1/2 and its fandom is how I learned what transgender was and that I learned I was not alone for the first time in my life.

I feel like there should be a sequel poll to this adds a second axis that is "are you currently sad, y/n" and see what the correlation is between depression/euphoria and the essential qualia of the blue box ...

As a former Jersey girl, I feel confident in say it would definitely matter. ... If it was a choice between sleepwalking cannibal and "it doesn't count as corruption if I'm too corrupt, because then it's a stream of benefits and you can't point to any one incident", well.
Tbh I don’t think the senator eating people as a teen and sleep-driving into fields as an adult even matters in New Jersey

I did an illustration for Trans Day of Remembrance today at work.
Our little community contains so much anger and grief, but it's because we love each other so fiercely. We remember our dead because their memory keeps us stubborn.
I love all of us today, and I hope you do too.

I haven't gotten to Wyll yet, but ... "The Blade stands at the ready"? Really? That's the line he's going with? I am reading that as less depersonalizing and less bluster and more ...
I know on the surface, Wyll referring to himself in the third person is supposed to both on a textual and metatextual be kind of a superhero thing. it's supposed to evoke a familiar "Never fear! The Blade is here!" sort of vibe and to be clear it does, but still, the more I hear "Are you sure? The Blade stands at the ready." when dismissing him, I can't help but find this second level of it being a way for Wyll to further depersonalize himself, even in casual conversation. like to Wyll, Wyll is not a person with needs and wants and desires. every scar and humiliation is an acceptable loss in service of something much bigger than him. even the loss of his soul is an acceptable loss to being the Blade of Frontiers.

I find it funny that they chose to go with the more "hardcore" ending for the pilot for the DVDs, and then when it came time to put 2x09 on the DVDs, they chickened out ...
The Veronica Mars pilot is really like here's all the ways this girl's life is fucked up
