We recently had a member at a homegrown system game i play in who was going to let an npc kill himself after multiple players had made it clear in game and out of game that was not something we wanted.

They have not apologized.

They also have done several other things in other games that are awful and make me uncomfortable.

Consent at any ttrpg is important because now we have several players who don't want to play because of this person.

Me and my wife just had to remove one of our good friends from a long term campaign she runs. We just got through an area that really heavily focused on his character, and he had to make a tough decision between an old friend and the party.

We have a discord server where a lot of our table talk happens, and he started making comments that his character would kill himself in order to not have to make this decision fully. Now, our table has a really clearly defined red light consent system, so the moment that was said in chat I made it clear it was an action I’d red line. He implied he’d do it again anyway, and only stopped after me and another party member both told him why it made us so uncomfortable.

It took a full day to hear from this person again, at which time he

1) made excuses for his actions

2) repeatedly said it was just a game/fictional

3) said it shouldn’t matter what he was saying because me and this other party member get very descriptive in combat anyways, so if gore is fine this should be too

And I don’t welcome people into my home or into our games that don’t believe the same thing, because it’s hard to trust someone who isn’t willing to respect consent.

We have to figure out now how to proceed with this character, but a bump in the story is a small price to pay for the safety and comfort of all of my friends.

Chaining myself to the god of death for my girlfriend

We weren't dating yet

Our oracle gave up memories of one of their human parents to get information.

Said oracle also lost a leg

My girlfriend died, and the player who was the only cis het person in the group played another gay chacter

Said gay character got into another relationship with another pc

Oh we also stabbed and shot the god of death that I chained myself to

My girlfriend opened a ditch to the underworld in the middle of Europe.

Dolos kidnapped us to get us to Europe on no sleep

We had a ghost dog

I had to kill my half sister. Twice

I also punched Hermes and stole his helm

Our satyr started a rumor the zues has rabies

We licked rocks and drank from underworld rivers

My girlfriend became the leader of the broken, the beaten, and the damned

We called Orpheus a sad simp

We got a dinosaur made out of bones

Here's the thing that I don't think a lot of people got. Mostly people who refused to vote for harris due to Palestine.

We cannot help Palestine if we are being killed.

We cannot help Palestine if our funds have to go to getting us out.

We cannot help Palestine if trump cuts off our access to the outside world like north Korea does.

We cannot help Palestine if we are dead.

If we are stressed and burned out from keeping ourselves and our families and our friends safe we will not have time to help Palestine. We will not have time to help the climate. Because we will just be trying to survive and get through to the next day.

And the people who voted for Trump? They don't care about those issues. And they won't.

So if u didn't vote for harris because of some moral high ground bullshit I hope u remember that when even more people die. Both in the us and in Palestine.

Well....shit didn't get better

Things aren't going to go.back to normal.

We'd like to think that things will back to how they were before covid 19. They are not. For better or for worse our world has changed. Hopefully we'll get a better healthcare system, realise that grocery workers are essential, and give each other more love.we will be weary of hugs and of touching a stranger's hand for a while. We will have moments of fear when we see an empty asle in the grocery store, thinking that it's happening again. We'll panic for a moment when we hear someone cough. But we will heal. We won't take for granted the arts, or our parks that we can no longer enjoy. We'll go on more walks and read more books and know that things have changed. We will hopefully be kinder to strangers. Hopefully.

Things aren't going back to what they were. This is what defines our generation..those of us that don't remember 9/11, just its effects. Who know that stories of what happened that day. In the future, our kids will.ask us what we did during the quarentine. Did we break it? Did we get the virus? Were we an essential worker? This is our day. It's just one really long day. It is up to us what we do with it now and when it's over. Do we fill the world with fear and hate for others? Are we going to be our parents where when they found that the attacks were done by someone Islamic they decided every person who is or was Islamic was bad? Or will we learn from their mistakes?

The thing is we don't know. But what I do know. Is we will not be the same. No matter how hard we try. Something has changed. Let's make it for the better.

1) it's LGBT!!! There is a T. To not include the T forgets a lot of activism that the community has gone through, especially here in America. Literally our entire gay pride was started by trans women of color. So include the T please.

2) most people in the community understand why she doesn't have Lgbt writings in her books. It comes from the fact that years later she claims Dumbledore is gay and than in the current movies, after making this claim, has done nothing to support the claim. Like from a writer's standpoint, you've already made the claim. Might as well act on it.

3) as for race relations, I will admit I don't know much about those mistakes as I am a white person in America who hasn't done much research on that part. Even if it is a product of its time, that still doesn't make it okay. An extreme example of this, is founding fathers owning slaves. Product of its time, still a disgusting and awful practice. So if she was racist due to the time she was writing this, it still doesn't make the work less racist.

Is anyone else tired of people bringing up the lack of lgb representation in the Harry Potter books as a gotcha against JKR? Ther series began in the 90s. Back then having lgb representation in mainstream media was very controversial. People still widely thought lgb themes shouldn't be present in media aimed at children. This was 20 years ago. Things were different.

Furthermore, they also use race portrayal in the books against her. While she did make mistakes, like in the naming of Cho Chang and the reference to Angelina Johnson as black being someone making fun of her hair(or so i hear? I don't personally recall), she made these mistakes 20 years ago. I fully believe she is well aware of the issues and has grown as a person and would not make the same mistakes today.

Stop using things from 15-20 years ago against her.

She's not perfect. But I'm proud of her for standing up for girls, women and lgb people when we're being silenced by supporters of trans ideology for speaking the truth.

So my friends shit on me like 3 or 4 times last night. And than one came over today and was like, " well I was told I should apologize". Like it doesn't feel like an apology when you say you were told to apologize. Like sorry that I threw food into the trashcan?!?!?! You're the one who didn't have a liner in there, but the trash is still full???????? It just feels like I don't have any trust in this group. Also this was after I actually tried to be cuddly with them, as they are cuddly humans, and welll....I wish I could say that it was gonna happen again soon, but it probably won't.
