I have been working to get this 'key' for so long now. This time, by His will, it seems not very far away. It is an arduous, long and continuous process, yes it is, yet nothing could beat its worth. I have sacrifice so much to get this 'key', the 'key' to unlock all the good things in life. Halfway through, its time to ponder upon everything all over again, in order to find the motivation on how to use the 'key'. KNK DECEMBER 2014 BWN-TTG-KB-BWN. Its officially becomes a tradition for us #UBDHistorian for a road trip to interesting palces around the country in every semesters. Forget about those trip to neighbouring countries, we chose to explore #Brunei's very own attractions not just to have some fun but as part of our academic requirement which requires us as #historian to explore and learn history by ourself outside from formal lecture room. It is quite sad though to see some of these attractions in dilapidated state but that didnt hampered our spirit to explore the country. Of all attractions #Singapore has offered, the #SingaporeMerlion is the striking and the most valuable memories that i can attached to Singpore while im here. Forget about those glitzy and glittering Orchard Road, USS, Marina Bay Sands and many others, this mythic creature's old charm by the Singapore River is the only thing that is close to my heart personally, a symbol of what Singapore strive to be and the outcome of it. Maybe i was influenced with the cover book of #commercialstudies that i studied back in 2003, which features the exat same picture, the only different is, i was standing there by myself.Above all, this short trip indeed have become an added value to my everexpanding outlooks and perspectives of things that is outside of our own #BruneiDarussalam. #MajulahSingapura #SingporeMerlion #theRafflesPlace

Once again, huge thanks goes to #BruneiEmbassy for hosting us at your residence in Ekkamai. For once, its feel like home again, talking in #BruneiMalay, colourful traditional attires, delicious Malay foods and the warmth of our people. Funny things happened all the way from apartments to the embassy and im very pleased of #Thais reactions and perceptions of me and my Bruneians friend fully dress in Traditional Malay attire. Today im proud of putting on Cara Melayu in #Bangkok with all that funny receptions and attentions being given to us today, from thinking us as Indonesian, to calling us from afar where are we coming from to asking details of my Sinjang at mrt. Brunei! Fly your flags up and high starting today. Its been 30 years have been independent and now we have come to the 3rd generation since the independence day. #GenerasiBerwawasan indeed fits our resemblance well, it is upon us lies the future of our beloved #NegaraBruneiDarussalam, therefore la tahzan, strive forward and dont forget to rest our hope/tawakal to Azzawajalla. In the past, while other regional powers either applied isolitionist policies and never fought European powers, we, Purih Brunei open up our shores with grandeur and openness, though we received ill treatments later on. Remember this #Bruneians, no other regional powers in the Pacific managed to fought and expelled European powers in the 16th century (i.e. Castille War) and keep our independence, we are the first to win and only in the 20th century Japan did copied our example and win the Russo Japanese war 1901. When the clock strike 00:00 later tonight, our beloved #BruneiDarussalam have been independent for 30 years. In the 1980's and the 10990's that followed, Brunei was indeed in its zenith, a sparkling Dubai in Southeast Asia. But today, 30 years later, what left are the remnants of that glorious days, only to becomes memories of each Bruneians. Everyone holding to that memories as an evidence of our survival stories, in the hope that days will return again in this blessed land. The question is who to blame upon? The answer to that is no one should be blame at the first place. All of us shares the responsibility to our country no matter whatthus we delegate the blame upon each of us, for deep reflections. The source of the problems are actuallt ourselves, our utter reliance to government, our complacent lifestyle and our egoistic 'malas tah ku ingau' nature. Until when we have to continued to have these unhealthy and lengthened coffe breaks culture, unnecessary redtape and worst TPOR both in public and private sector? It is the mindset and the attitude of our society that needs to change, ultimately its up to us, to realise that our current lifestyle is unsustainable and needs to change for better or to continue like this and crumbles like any other history that we know. The choice is yours.......

Reminiscing Kampong Ayer, the cradle of Brunei civilisation, have never been far away from my identity, served as an inspiration for me since the very beginning. Cruising along Brunei river in just 1 hour plus, indeed i have learnt a lot than a semester in a classroom will bring me about. It challenge my historical knowledge, understandings and thoughts in just a short time, the main reason why we were encouraged to explore by ourself than being spoonfed in classrooms. I was ashamed of myself by having acknowledge of my 'pure Brunei' identity but losing the very essence of that 'calak purih jati' i.e. losing touch with Kampong Ayer long time ago. Nevertheless, i learn quite a lot and it did open my mind to accept new approach to history such as the 'taboo' local folklore. As mentioned by #Hurgronje, Southeast Asian folklore is not a mindless local attempts to cement their authority, rather a unique medium for SEA in expressing their culture and 'history' in popular medium that is local tradition. Therefore much efforts need to be done to 'decipher' these local traditions in acquiring historical facts and separation of myth and legends that have been lingering around it. #kampongayerdalamkenanganabadi #newapproachtohistory #proudBruneian

People who are able to reflect upon their deeds are the most wise amongst the crowd. According to the late Nelson R. Mandela, "One of the things that made me long to be back in prison was that so little opportunity for reading, thinking and quiet reflection after my release. I intend amongst other thing, to give myself much more opportunity for such reading and reflection", as an evidence of a philosopher amongst ordinary man.
